tried 50 mg but went down until I reached 0.1 mg and still had some hypersensitivity symptoms, but now I have been off for 6 days, at ~30% of the symptoms, and it will get worse when I'm exercising.

This does not sound like you reinstated in any systematic, controlled way.

I'm not sure what symptoms we're addressing here. If you feel better off psychiatric drugs, don't take them. Most likely, your sleep will improve over some weeks or months.

Since you seem to be so interested in experimenting with psychiatric drugs, I'm not sure we can help you. This is a site for going off drugs and recovering from withdrawal syndrome. Self-care, such as reinstatement at a low dose, takes discipline and patience.

It's possible no psychiatric drugs will ever give you the results you want. Strongly recommend psychotherapy instead.

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.

I'm sorry It came of as me experimenting, but the thing is that I tried to reinstate sertralin at 50 mg then I experienced a worsening in my physical symptoms, and I also saw the post about reinstatement,  so i lowered the dosage, because it said there that if you're experiencing, a worsening of symptoms you should stop or reduce the dosage, so I lowered it gradually,  and then stopped completely because of those symptoms.

Now I want to try again because I still experiencing those symptoms that got worsen by the reinstatement: hypersensitivity.

And I do want to reinstate properly,  but the post said to lower the dosage, or stop completely if there is worsening,  so I thought I was doing the right thing,  so my only question now is how do I reinstate properly? which drug? And how much?

Thank you so much for your time Alto I don't mean to be annoying or anything but I just need guidance, because I don't know what to do anymore, I know what I'm experiencing is withdrawal and that it will get better but, the cold Turkey is hard on me so I want some relief.

I'm been to the psychologist since my early teens, but withdrawal is another hell, I'm not looking for a drug to solve my problems anymore, and don't believe in them, I stopped taking them in the first place because I read Peter breggin's books, and thought I could tough it out, but soon realized it's not that easy, then I came across SA and found this wonderful community, and realized I'm in for the long battle presumably, so I pray for some relief, and if reinstatement can help, he'll I'll try it, I just want to do it properly.

Thank you powerback!

It's just so sh*tty, I never been remotely suicidal before the drugs, I was depressed etc, but never this bad, the drug pooped on me after 2 years, and then I became really suicidal, then when to try every drug out there for another 2.5 ~ years, even hospitalized, but nothing seems to help,  I then read peter breggin books, and became knowledgeable about those drugs,  i thought maybe if I stopped the drugs I wouldn't be so suicidal,  because that was what I read, that this drugs makes you worse and can make a person suicidal...

But things got worse an I'm still suicidal, and suffering so much! 😟

I agree and relate to what you say ,im in a Sh*t storm myself for way to long ,im a fan of peter breggin but nothing is that simple ,especially for us that get caught up in the "system" of medication

  • .Use mindfulness during the terrible times like now ,mindfulness is based on understanding the emotion and difficulty we are experiencing at the moment ,its not shameful to be in difficulty ,try and acknowledged at the moment its  bad and pray and hope it passes soon and do more to focus on nurturing any pain in your heart .im doing this at the moment ,im listening to emotional music and trying to understand and heal my inner child that's in bits for a long time, hence my countless addictions that only masked pain.

  • Be safe and very kind to yourself during this hard time ,your not alone by any means 🙏 .

I'll have to say that after I was hospitalized and basically felt the same as before it, I tried meditation, and although it didn't stop my suicidal urges, I did have the most accomplished 9 months while on the drugs...

But I don't want to accept the situation right now it's too painful and I tried to carry on for the last 4 months and I don't want to go on like this, I want to do the right thing, I'm suffering so much, and from what I have read, no one can tell how long it will last...

Exactly A ,no one can make the decision about meds but you ,no one has the right to judge anyone ,I agree ,a year ago I was adamant  "no drugs" but im all over the place now with what to do .I agree the goal is to not suffer but make an informed decision on your merits.when we get very sick we need to try our best to calm ourselves and not do anything regretful .Do the best you can and stressing over what to do while very sick will stress us .

Is there anything you can do or enjoy to get away from your thoughts for now ,my own are like a wild fire at the moment .

I'm slowly understanding that when I'm angry or hurtful to myself ,I am internalising pain .

Poets ,musicians ,writers ,artists of any kind seem to have a vessel to release emotion of any kind ,its the human condition ,I think a lot of what we suffer is a block in how to release our pain [this is by no means our fault ,I have to stress this ,its not our fault],throw society's ignorance on top of that and its hard .we keep striving to find a safe respectful way to vent and release feelings .granted we can be suffering the effects of meds witch is not helpful but we keep at it .

Hang in there your worth it .

I feel like I'm battle veteran since I'm basically been through poop out for 2.5 years and it's been hell!

I still want to get of this ******* drugs and recover my mind and body, but, when you suffer so much and for so long, there is a place for compromises, and like this site's headline reads it's about surviving, and I'm not surviving right now I'm about to give up and that's not smart,  also, I believe the best strategy is keeping busy, as it was mentioned before and honestly I can't do it when in suffering this much, constantly....

It's just very disturbing and peculiar to me because, suicidal urges, literally urges, did not start before I took those drugs, I mean I thought about suicide but always, put it beyond a curtain, like I've told myself I would never reach that point, and ~2 years into meds, there was a poopout, and there it was full blown suicidal thoughts, ideation etc, you name it, and I truly wonder, what those drugs did, that make me want to kill myslef, it's not about the depression and the other things, it's that urges that killing me.

Power back I feel you very much, but I think that our goal in this long process is to pass the time and survive as much as possible, like keeping busy,  having jobs etc. Because I sort of got into the realization, that we can't think our way out of this situation, because literally in millions of years weren't programmed for it, you body and mind, basically have no clue on how to deal with it, BUT and it's a high but, there is a cure and it called time, and if we can only focus, on filling our time and passing the time, it sort of like time traveling, into health, and that's the hardest part, because spending time in the present is hard, and sometimes I think in situations like that it's just better to try and move through it as best as we can.

Those just my thoughts I'm surely not judging anyone, just sharing my beliefs...

It's kind of funny I just grew to believe I'll have to live with them, been 2.5 years and counting of this urges, they have nothing to do with depression, I just feel like I'm messed up, I know basically that suicidality is experienced, when you suffer more then you can handle, but it's been too long like wtf man,I don't want to live with them, I can't concentrate on anything,  I'm terrified by them,

CBT is very interesting ,the words we give to our experience can dictate how strongly we perceive a situation .

using  the word "disturbing" is very strong but if you realise and are conscious that  the urges are connected to meds we can understand and have a reason for how we feel in the moment ,it will pass ,have your toolkit together for when it gets stormy .

Does anyone else feel like it?

I mean I guess when the poopout happened,  I began experiencing inner turmoil, and mental torture, and maybe that what lead to it, but also, it says in a black box warning, that a ******* depression med can cause suicidality, just astounding to me, and basically means, that your life are worthless, because I should have been dead a long ago, but I guess I'm strong or something because I don't know how I survived it to this day, and still am.

Problem is it always stormy, I've been to hospital, not for my depression, but because my deep urge to die, they gave me more drugs, and sent me away at the same condition, no one can live with a constant urge to die, and I grew to believe it bullsiht, the struggle I had before was much more manageable, like I didn't want to kill myslef wise, jesus.

In my opinion, 0.2mg Zoloft probably wasn't enough, and you didn't give it enough time. I would try 0.5mg Zoloft.

Asi, did you try what Alto suggested a few weeks ago?

In order for a reinstatement to work, you have to start at a low dose (but as Alto pointed out, not too low), and give it time.

About reinstating and stabilizing to reduce withdrawal symptoms

Powerback gave some excellent non-drug coping skill suggestions in the form of mindfulness and self compassion.

Are you taking any supplements? We don't recommend a lot of supplements, as many members report their nervous systems are simply too fragile to handle them. However, magnesium and fish oil tend to be calming to the nervous system and many people report they do help. Please only add in one supplement at a time and at a small dose. Asi, you've mentioned feeling suicidal multiple times. if you are in need of more support than an online forum can provide, please see:

Please let us know how you're doing and what you think of Alto's suggestion for a .5 mg Zoloft reinstatement.

Hello Asi, I've just read through your topic.  I see you saying on the one hand that you want to reinstate because of psychological symptoms, but on the other hand you don't want to because of physical symptoms.  There just may not be a "perfect" dose where you don't get either.  A reinstatement can often help to alleviate symptoms, but may not eliminate them.

Also, you have made many changes on and off various meds as well as dose changes.  You need to be aware that all dose changes can be destabilising.  The more changes you make in a short amount of time, the more confusing it is for your system, which is always trying to adapt and work towards a stable state.  It's very important to be patient and hold for a while to allow your system time to adapt to any changes, and resist the urge to change something whenever you experience symptoms, in an attempt to fix them.  See: the rule of 3KIS - keep it simple keep it slow keep it stable

I think that our goal in this long process is to pass the time and survive as much as possible, like keeping busy,  having jobs etc.

You are absolutely right with this.  It can definitely help to distract the mind from obsessing over our problems by doing other things to pass the time.  Some people do crafts, or read, or watch TV, or go for a walk in the park - whatever works for you.  When I'm feeling bad I like to read light and positive books and watch lightweight TV such as game shows (nothing dark or scary).

If you are truly feeling suicidal you need to seek local help for that, as Shep said above.  If you are having thoughts about suicide that scare you, it might help to remember that a thought is only a thought - remember you are not your thoughts.  How much importance you give a thought is up to you.  Powerback mentioned mindfulness, which you might find helpful.  With mindfulness, you are the observer in your mind and just watch what is going on, like you're a scientist studying some phenomenon.  The idea is that the observer is objective and does not get involved in the drama or pass any judgment on it.  Your goal is not to try to stop the thoughts from happening, but just let them happen without giving them any importance.  Watch the thoughts as if they are clouds floating by, or cars driving past.  Accept that the thoughts are there, but don’t attach any importance to them.

I’ve found it can help to give your internal negative voice a name (e.g. “doomcloud", “chatterbox", "monkey mind" or whatever name you want) so that you can separate this voice from your real self.  When you are able to perceive that this voice is not “you”, it becomes easier to step back from it, get some distance from it, and observe it more objectively.  Many years ago I named the negative voice in my mind the "Doomcloud”.  When the negative thoughts came, I could just observe it happening and say to myself  "oh, there's the Doomcloud again, doing its thing".  This helped immensely to step back from all the negative thoughts and emotions, to be less involved in them, and by getting some distance from them, they felt less intense and not nearly as upsetting or frightening.  It takes a bit of practice at first, but gets easier the more you do it.

Hang in there, Asi, be patient, and be kind and gentle to yourself.

First of all, thank you all for your replies, i do no take it for granted!

Basically i do try supplements, but its just not enough, and i'm constantly in pain and suffering, as well, i'm not functioning and stopped working and living a normal life.

i sure open to try to reinstate once again and actually give it a chance this time, basically last time, it gave me hypersensitivity even at low dosage, but i only tried it for ~20 days.

So just to be clear, you're suggesting i'll try to reinstate 0.5 mg of Zoloft, right? that's for a start ?

alright i can do that, so we're not gonna reinstate the WELLBUTRIN? because i tried to make a liquid solution out of it, and failed... (WELLBUTRIN XR).

In my opinion, 0.2mg Zoloft probably wasn't enough, and you didn't give it enough time. I would try 0.5mg Zoloft.

This is what Alto suggested a while back, and it still may be worth a try, as it's only a small increase.  Small changes are easier for the system to adjust to.  It's also best to make only one change at a time, so if you change your Zoloft dose, don't change anything else.  It's possible the increased dose might increase your hypersensitivity, but I guess you need to weigh that up against your other symptoms.  It may not be possible to find a dose that alleviates all the symptoms.  The aim is to get to a point where symptoms are bearable.

Ok so just to be clear here:

I cold turkeyd back in April 2018, survived one month, and then went back on the meds, with lower dose and different medication(by psychiatrist), then, could turkeyd once again in 16.7.18...

By 4.10.18 I tried to reinstate for about 23 days, started with a standard dose of 25 mg sertraline, and reducing it gradually until I stopped, because I didn't react well to it, mainly hypersensitivity in touch, sound, etc...

Overall the reinstatement lasted only ~ 23 days, and I stopped because of hypersensitivity...

4.10.18 - 25.10.18

BUT, the hypersensitivity stayed with me unfortunately, and didn't went away...

So yesterady 30.11.18 I tried to reinstate once again, starting at 0.5 mg Sertraline, but sadly I few hours later i started to experience even worst hypersensitivity, and it's debilitating. 😞

I didn't took another dose since, and I'm afraid...

Any thoughts?

General high sensitivity physically (touch, sound, etc) really bad mentally, its hard to explain actually, but just I'm so bad physically and mentally,  that I don't think I could make it, I don't really care much about if I'll heal 100% or not, I'm or concerned if ill make it since I'm really bad...):
