You may want to check out some of the threads on the Relationship section. This is very common during withdrawal.

Here's some additional information which might help you to understand what is happening:

Recovery isn't linear it happens in a Windows and Waves Pattern

Withdrawal Normal Description

When we take a psychiatric drug, we are adding chemical/s to the brain.  The brain then has to change to adapt to getting the chemical/s.  It might have to change something to do with A and then once that change has been made it affects B so another change has to be made and so on down the line.  It is a chain reaction, a domino effect.

The same thing happens when we take the drug away.  That's why it's possible to experience such a vast array of withdrawal symptoms, and they can change, and be of different intensity.

These explain it really well:

When we stop taking the drug, we have a brain that has designed itself so that it works in the presence of the drug; now it can't work properly without the drug because it's designed itself so that the drug is part of its chemistry and structure. It's like a plant that has grown on a trellis; you can't just yank out the trellis and expect the plant to be okay. When the drug is removed, the remodeling process has to take place in reverse. SO--it's not a matter of just getting the drug out of your system and moving on. If it were that simple, none of us would be here. It's a matter of, as I describe it, having to grow a new brain. I believe this growing-a-new-brain happens throughout the taper process if the taper is slow enough. (If it's too fast, then there's not a lot of time for actually rebalancing things, and basically the brain is just pedaling fast trying to keep us alive.) It also continues to happen, probably for longer than the symptoms actually last, throughout the time of recovery after we are completely off the drug, which is why recovery takes so long.

Basically- you have a building where the MAJOR steel structures are trying to be rebuilt at different times - ALL while people are coming and going in the building and attempting to work.

It would be like if the World Trade Center Towers hadn't completely fallen - but had crumbled inside in different places.. Imagine if you were trying to rebuild the tower - WHILE people were coming and going and trying to work in the building!  You'd have to set up a temporary elevator - but when you needed to fix part of that area, you'd have to tear down that elevator and set up a temporary elevator somewhere else. And so on. You'd have to build, work around, then tear down, then build again, then work around, then build... ALL while people are coming and going, ALL while the furniture is being replaced, ALL while the walls are getting repainted... ALL while life is going on INSIDE the building. No doubt it would be chaotic. That is EXACTLY what is happening with windows and waves.  The windows are where the body has "got it right" for a day or so - but then the building shifts and the brain works on something else - and it's chaos again while another temporary pathway is set up to reroute function until repairs are made.

We strongly encourage members to learn and use non drug coping techniques to help get through tough times.  This something that only you can do.  Nobody can do it for you.

Understanding what is happening helps us to not get caught up with the second fear, or fear of the fear.  This happens when we experience sensations in our body and because we don't understand them we are scared of them and then start to panic.

This document has a diagram of the body explaining what happens in the body when we become anxious:

AAF: Acknowledge, Accept, Float.  It's what you have to do when nothing else works, and can be a very powerful tool in coping with anxiety.  The neuroemotional anxiety many of us feel during WD is directly caused by the drugs and their chemical reactions in the brain.  Making it so there is nothing we can do about them.  They won't respond to other drugs, relaxation techniques and the like.  They do, however, react very well to being ignored.  That's the concept behind AAF.  Acknowledge, get to know the feeling involved, explore them.  Accept, These feelings are a part of you and they aren't going anywhere fast. Float, let the feeling float off as you get on with your life as best as you can.  It's a well documented fact that the more you feed in to anxiety the worse it gets.  What starts as generalized neuroemotinal anxiety can be easily blown into a full fledged panic attack just by thinking about it.

I often liken it to an unwanted house guest.  At first you talk to them, have conversations, communicate with them.  After a while you figure out that they aren't leaving and there is nothing you can do to get rid of them.  So you go on about your day, working around them until they get bored and leave.

It can take some practice, but AAF really does work.  I hope you give it a try.

Hi Asri ,any questions just ask on my thread .it is a community but its one no one wants to be apart of because of our situation and depending of the severity of symptoms it can trigger us ,so keep at it and keep learning .im in awe by Alto and the mods .my anxiety can be so bad that I sit here sometimes worrying/thinking of all the work they do ,but mindfulness and challenging my thoughts makes me correct this and  move on to something more constructive .

we need to forgive society's ignorance and ignore peoples opinion as best you can .

Build up a collection of threads that suit your needs and situation.

Take care .

Thanks, powerback.

Yes, Asi, this is a supportive community. But there are only so many times we can answer deep existential questions in Intro topics.

As I may have mentioned before, we would not put the effort into running this Web site if no one ever recovered. There would be no point to it, would there?

We cannot predict when you'll feel better. But if you answer our questions, we may be able to help you reduce some symptoms.

In the meantime, as powerback says, find something useful to do and learn how to move your attention away from your symptoms. This will help you a lot.

I'm in a terrible awful ( dont think Im gonna make it) wave right now,

It was too late for me to reinstate, I tried 4 times,

I'm taking the recommend supplements, but when the waves struck they're unbearable!!! , and nothing seems to help.

My question: is the only thing left for me is to wait until I feel better?

Basically ride this hell every time until it will end?

When you said only omega 3 and magnesium recommended,  i thought everything else wouldn't work , but to survive this you need to encourage us to try anything that would help us..

If we knew of anything that worked we would be shouting it from the roof tops.  Magnesium and omega 3 are the only supplements which SA recommends and we suggest members try a small amount, one at a time, to see how it affects them.  Some members have experienced issues with either one of them.

Unfortunately, we don't know what will work.  And what works for one person may cause another person to become much worse.

Hi Asi,

How are you doing?💚

Been on antipsychotics, benzos, antidepressants and painkillers for chronic pain.

Been cold turkeyed and put on and off all sorts of things. Was suicidal n ended up in a psych ward because I had akathisia from withdrawals. Can’t remember what I was put on but when I was released was in the same predicament with severe akathisia n was suicidal again.

Back to the ward and was given different meds. Tapered off one and have been trying to taper off Seroquel since. It’s been many, many years of tapering so far.

I’ve  tapered from 300mg of Seroquel to 7.5mg./ March 10 2019=7.25mg / 17th of April=7 mg / June 5th=6.75mg/ July 14th=6.50mg/ August 28=6.25mg/ 10th of Oct= 6.20mg/ October 21=6mg/ December 16=5.80mg/.   January 21 2020=5.60mg/April 2=5.40g/ May 29=5.20mg/ August 14= 5mg/ September 29=4.80mg/ Jan 31, 2021=4.60 mg/

Hi Asi,

Sorry you are feeling pretty average. As you know, time is the only healer. I always think every day is a day closer to healing though, I try and look at the positives. I also look back on how far I’ve come. I was originally on 300mg and now I’m on 7.25mg. We can’t escape the windows and waves pattern as our brains heal, but we will get there in the end!

I’ve got lots of distractions to help me get through waves, I hope you’ve got some too. I do arts and crafts, go out in nature, watch DVDs and Netflix, listen to music, go to concerts, read when my brain lets me etc etc. Distractions don’t get rid of withdrawals, but it helps me cope with them.

Take care, sending hugs🤗

Hi Asi,

I’m really sorry that the physical pain is bad for you now. I’m stuck in bed a lot too because I have CFS. I’ve got a TV in my bedroom, though I don’t watch TV, I watch DVDs. I don’t like TV at all, it gives me a restless energy.

Have you got some things that you can do while stuck in bed that can distract you? In the darkest of waves I’ve always used distractions to help me to keep going. I play word games, listen to music, watch DVDs, do arts and crafts while in bed. Sometimes I can barely think as my brain fog is so severe so I try and do things that don’t take much brain power. I hope you find something that can distract you from the pain. It won’t make the pain go away, but it just helps to divert our focus a bit.

Sending hugs🤗

Hi Asi,

Gabapentin has a lot of side effects, just like other psych drugs. It can also cause withdrawals, and when one comes off it it has to be tapered the same as antidepressants etc. No more than 10% a month.

It’s up to you whether you take it, but I just wanted you to know that it can cause more problems. Time is really the only safe healer when it comes to withdrawals, adding more meds is not a good solution.

Where is your pain? Is it throughout your body? I’m really sorry you’re in such pain.

Take care, sending hugs🤗

My pain is through out the body, but especially in my legs (because I use them for walking 🙂).

I'm literally bed bound because of it.

Hi Asi,

How are you doing? I really am sorry you’re in so much pain from withdrawals. I was just looking at Melissa5000’s thread. She has also been suffering with bad pain. The last few of her posts show that she’s finally seeing some windows and improvements.

Check out her thread. You will eventually start feeling better too, it’s just time. Our brains have a remarkable ability to heal.

Sending hugs🤗

I AM NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. These are my own views based on what I’ve experienced myself.

Hey guys I really need your help, I'm very suicidal at the moment...

Something dose not add up to me 😞

I'm experiencing tremendous and excruciating amount of neuro emotions and thinking, but on real and true topics that I'm sure will upset me even 10 years from now, those things are about how harmful and far reaching antidepressants are, especially that they change you permanently and for up to 3 generations...

It's about a scientific study, and in the study there was a claim that if a parent has undergone treatment of prozac is child will have lower levels of cortisol - meaning less coping abilities built in, the study is very interesting and frightening, and I'm feeling doomed because I feel like there is nothing left for me to live for...

Everything was taken away from me, the drugs hurt me and changed me permanently, and I can't stop thinking about those psychiatrists that treated my mother and thanks to them it changed her and I permanently, I.E lower coping abilities and internalized behavior.

What I mean to say is even though I experiencing neuro emotions they are true and real and justified, so why wouldn't I trust them?!

So far they were crazy and not so much related to me ...

But now they're logical and make sense like the pssd worry!

bury your head in the sand and ignore these studies when it suits you ,just like A lot of the DRs and big pharma ,having a nihilistic day myself curled up in a ball ,ive forced myself to listen to music .being a man of science it must be hard to ignore these studies but you will need to ignore them when so ill if they don't help you in  a bad wave[it can be hard to stop feeding the fear]  .focus on  your spirituality instead maybe .your far from alone even though it feels that way .

Take care Asi

It's hard because the thoughts are so compelling and true but they're leading me to oblivion, it leads me to the point that there is nothing left to live for, and it's hard to know if I'll still think like that a year or two from now.

I'm far from handling it in a mindful way, because I do not want to, I begin to experience a return of some emotion/healing, and then I will feel as i don't need this site anymore and i can listen to myslef and then i will be sucked into the abyss, its hard thinking otherwise and i truly dont want to bury my head, it's not the person i am, i rather know the truth anyday, but it seems that as the say goes: you can't handle the truth...

Man this is hard and not natural, I mean I believe those studies and I can't imagine feeling otherwise towards it even 10 years from now...

all studies need to be argued each side of the debate ,the result is feeding  the monster inside your soul during the wave ,start trying to fake it[practice doing something else in a wave] .do these studies explain in detail how they come to there conclusions .since time began everyone has a motive .I think when your in these dark waves you have to stop reading these studies, you are triggering yourself ,its like a virus we cant get out of our head ,believe me I know .

when your up to it find more friends like you ,don't be thinking your different to the "norm" what even is normal ,its an illusion .

Recently I watched a Netflix series and it really touched my soul ,I litterly watched it twice and bald crying , I crave that feeling again more than I want the cynical feeling I could get recently because I could feel it over taking me .a demon was being fed in withdrawl .im more watchful and on guard  for this now .

I don't bury my head either these days ,im getting better at making a choice on certain days to take a break .

Take care your not alone my friend .

I'm still suffering from hypersensitive nerves 24/7...

It's been 9 months!

I am now unable to get out of bed anymore, because if my body isn't stable, e.g lying down (in bed) constantly, my nerves will flare up 100× more, and I will be unable to sleep!

I've haven't gotten out of bed for months now!

What do i do?

It's 100% linked to me moving and getting out of bed.

If I'm staying in bed I can sleep pretty much up to 10+ every night, but, I'm still feeling like ****, and wake up to kindling, hypersensitive nerves throughout the body, like every nerve is super alive!!!

When will this **** will go away?
