mdwstrx
Hi @Jennings You're not troubling me at all. I'm happy to share what I can remember. The lower arm burning that I recall was an electrical sensation. It also manifested as an inner 'buzz'. I'm sure it was wd related but I don't know what it's called. It disappeared, thankfully, toward the end of the 5 months it took for me to stabilize. I wish I could be more helpful. I'm sorry you're going through this now. It's beyond awful. Saying prayers for you that it stops. md 🙏 1997 Prozac ?mg 1991 Sertraline ?mg 2002 Escitalopram 10 mg 2018 2.5 mg - stopped by Dr./Reinstated, up-dosed to 7.5 mg 04/19 Began BM slide @7.5 mg CURRENT 0.34 mg 🌼 "If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth." mdwstrx
Brief update for the record. I have been sailing along doing two 5% (roughly) reductions each of the first two weeks. Then holding for 2 weeks for a total 10% monthly taper. I dropped by 5% 12 days ago to .095 mg. This month, I refrained from the second week taper due to an upcoming event. Nonetheless, withdrawal symptoms have ramped up uncharacteristically. Feeling neuropathy, hot flashes, shortness of breath, depressed mood, performance anxiety and general nervous feeling about the future. Overall, a lack of normal self-confidence. Holding indefinitely until this resolves. Do you think it will @brassmonkey, @Gridley and/or @Frogie? These are some of the same symptoms the drug kept away for so long.🤷♀️ md 🌧️ 1 1997 Prozac ?mg 1991 Sertraline ?mg 2002 Escitalopram 10 mg 2018 2.5 mg - stopped by Dr./Reinstated, up-dosed to 7.5 mg 04/19 Began BM slide @7.5 mg CURRENT 0.34 mg 🌼 "If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth." Thanks @Crochet but things are a bit rocky presently again. I decided to cut 2.6% 5 days ago since I felt much better. Knowing I have a big event in 3 weeks, I got nervous and reversed the cut 2 days later deciding best to hold 'til after the event. I then had one 5oz glass of wine that night as I occasionally do. The next day felt like acute wd - waking at 3 am, unable to sleep and having lower gi issues, depressed and anxious feelings all day? it was rough. Slept better next two nights with anxiety just under surface level today - gnawing away at my nerve endings. Def not withdrawal normal. May be stuck at this level for some time as any little drop is proving uncharacteristically problematic. I hope that things normalize in the next 2 weeks for my event or it'll be miserable. Grateful for the progress I've made, but the way I feel presently, I can't see putting myself out there for much. Played sports yesterday and was definitely hyper and a bit cranky. Had to really work to not show it. mdwstrx
@Go2zero Quoting a post you made "1mg escitalopram still gives a very high serotonin receptor occupancy (SERT) around 45%. At 10 mg the SERT is around 80%. So that shows why stopping at 1mg is still a very big jump to zero!" Can you share your source pls? Moderator Go2zero Posted July 20, 2021 Moderator Share Posted July 20, 2021 (edited) The formula to calculate the SERT for Prozac is: (86xdose in mg)/(1,94+dose in mg). I do not have the exact formula for calculating the SERT for escitalopram/Lexapro. But I do know that the SERT graph curves do not differ that much from Prozac. If you want to use the Prozac formula to calculate the SERT for escitalopram you should multiply the escitalopram dose by 2, since 10mg escitalopram is comparable with 20 mg Prozac. So the formula would be then (86 x dose in mgx2)/(1,94 + dose in mgx2). Please know that these calculations are not exact. Everybody reacts different in SERT to specific dosages. But this formula is giving an average. More important is that it calculates and shows clearly how extremely high the SERT still is at very low dosages. Many of us think that they can stop after they went 90% down in dosage. Not knowing that the SERT may around 30% (whereas the SERT was around 75% at the full dose of 100%) This thread says a lot about this subject: Please read everything to get a good understanding. However the SERT occupancy graphs say nearly everything at one glance, if you really understand them. https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/topic/6036-why-taper-sert-transporter-occupancy-studies-show-importance-of-gradual-change-in-plasma-concentration/ More interesting information about this subject: https://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/doi/full/10.1176/appi.ajp.161.5.826 Edited July 20, 2021 by Go2zero 2 1993 Anafranil (Clomipramine) for a few months. mdwstrx
Hi @brassmonkey, I know you're very busy so apologies for having to reach out. When you have a moment, I'd like an opinion. While not currently at wd normal from my last cut, I'm considering using Lorazepam for an upcoming 1-day event. It seems to be the only way through the performance anxiety. Adrenaline is beating me up presently: that same feeling you might get if standing in front of hundreds of people - unprepared (though it's just a special day meeting🤷♀️). The nondrug techniques aren't helping and frankly, I'm dreading what might otherwise be a pleasant event, scared I might 'spin out' due to the anxiety. On the tapering front, I'm on an extended hold these past 6 weeks as follows: 6/12 - 5% cut was uncharacteristically rough but faded back to wd normal, or so I thought. 7/11 (month later) - 2.6% cut attempted and reversed on day 2. 7/13 (day 3)- wd ramped up on cue and has yet to fade back to wd normal. 7/22 - may have taken a double dose (one morning/one evening). Today - 4 hrs sleep last night and def feeling it. In addition to neuro emotions and other common wd symptoms, last night I felt some of the old, unsettling hypnogogic activity that was present in acute wd over 2 and a half years ago. I'm hoping these symptoms dissipate and I see a return to wd normal soon w/o having to up-dose. Obligations are a bit difficult but thankfully, not as bad as a crash. Yet I can see where getting past this point may be very tricky, if doable. Thanks in advance for your time and thoughts on the matter. md 1997 Prozac ?mg 1991 Sertraline ?mg 2002 Escitalopram 10 mg 2018 2.5 mg - stopped by Dr./Reinstated, up-dosed to 7.5 mg 04/19 Began BM slide @7.5 mg CURRENT 0.34 mg 🌼 "If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth." Moderator brassmonkey Posted July 24, 2021 Moderator Share Posted July 24, 2021 I learned many years ago that it is very easy to "freak one's self out" anticipating a public event. When ever the negative thoughts would pop up I would AAF them and things usually go pretty smoothly. Even the most experienced actors get uptight before going on stage, so you are in great company. I wouldn't resort to drugs to get through because they will get in the way more than they will help. It sounds like your systems are ramping up because of the obligations. Quite normal because of the additional anxiety. Work on relaxing and floating and maybe hold on the reductions until the obligations have past. YOU GOT THIS. 2 20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013. Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks. The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better. Final Dose 0.016mg. Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017 "It's also important not to become angry, no matter how difficult life is, because you can loose all hope if you can't laugh at yourself and at life in general." Thanks @brassmonkey!! I learned that as well as a nonretired person through many conference presentations and VIP meetings. AAF worked better when I was on a much higher dose of AD. Now with the neuro-emotions, AAF (or willingness) isn't quite cutting it. So, will do my best and see where that leads. I've been googling CBT vids that help, at least in the moment. Moderator Frogie Posted August 2, 2021 Moderator Share Posted August 2, 2021 @mdwstrx The lower your taper on lexapro, the harder it gets I found. It seems as though your body just doesn’t want to give it up so it fights with you. I had a moderator on here tell me once that you want to be kind to lexapro because it’s like pulling a tigers tail, mean and nasty. And they were correct. I’m glad you see the signs and keep holding. You will stabilize and hopefully soon😊 Take care, Frogie xx PREVIOUS medications and discontinuations: Have been on medications since 1996. Valium, Gabapentin, Lamictal, Prilosec and Zantac from 2000 to 2015 with a fast taper by a psychiatrist. Liquid Lexapro Nov, 2016 to 31-March, 2019 Lexapro free!!! (total Lexapro taper was 4 years-started with pill form) ---CURRENT MEDICATIONS:Supplements:Milk Thistle, Metamucil, Magnesium Citrate, Vitamin D3, Levothyroxine 25mcg, Vitamin C, Krill oil. Xanax 1mg 3x day June, 2000 to 19-September, 2020 Went from .150 grams (average weight of 1 Xanax) 3x day to .003 grams 3x day. April 1, 2021 went back on 1mg a day. Started tapering May 19, 2023. July 28, 2023-approximately .87mg. Dr. fast tapered me at the end and realized he messed up. Prescribe it again and I am doing "slower than a turtle" taper. 19-September, 2020 Xanax free!!!
