☼ Nevertoolate: Lexapro

Not a good couple of weeks. Nothing is really helping to stop the negative thoughts or feeling down and out.

To top it off my granddaughter had her year 12 ball last night. I knew it was coming up but didn't really track the dates. Had a good cry because I was wanting to go with her and my daughter when she looked for her dress. I know it was my fault. Feelings of guilt and more sadness over loss of not just this event but so much of life lost.

Feel like I'm stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea. I know I'd never go back to being on medication but seriously what's worse? Being half alive on meds or living through the nightmare of not knowing when or if  I'll be able to live a normal? life.

I need a window quick smart please 🙏

Hi Never,

I wanted to drop by and say welcome.  I'm sorry you're having some struggles with a wave.  They can be awful.  We're close in age and I have been on ADs for a long time as well.  I tapered to 2.5 mg and my doctor advised me to stop.  5 days later, disturbing withdraw symptoms set in and I had to reinstate/updose.  Its been about 3 months and I feel I am just now beginning to stabilize.  Once this settles, I intend to do a proper taper and get as low as I can before I jump off.  This site is a Godsend and the people here are very knowledgeable and kind.  Praying that things improve quickly for you.

Hugs💜

I’m sorry you’re feeling so down nevertoolate,

I was really happy to read though that your physical symptoms are fine. If you’re dealing with emotional symptoms, have you ever tried FasterEFT? FasterEFT has helped me with a lot of my emotions. I have a friend who is a practitioner, but you can do it yourself. There are heaps of videos on YouTube. If you type in 427 and FasterEFT it will give you the basics of what to do.

Take care, sending hugs 🤗

A nice little window the last couple of days. Nothing spectacular but nice nevertheless.

Headache not welcome though but maybe the brain is doing some repair work. That has to be a good thing right?

Earlier than usual rise this morning to get granddaughter to the bus stop for school. Worry about her. Is she following my footsteps down this path of depression or whatever the hell you want to call it . God I hope not.

You're OK you're OK you can do this

You can do this you're strong you're strong. You did it!

Get some chores done. A few more than lately. This is good. It's a luvly day but a bit hot. Hmmm is that a sore throat I feel coming on. Surely not. What kind of a sick joke is this. You give me a window then slap me with a sore throat and headache??

Wish I could talk to someone but I'm so bored and over myself. I wouldn't even want to be friends with me.

Appointment at hairdresser. Quick trim but looks much better. I'm happy.

Headache getting worse. Head feels like a brick.

Few more chores done.

Wanted to listen to new podcast on antidepressant withdrawal but can't keep eyes open. Head hurts too much.

Nana nap

No can't sleep. Brain won't shut up and listening to heart thumping is driving me mad. Wondering why I haven't already had a heart attack. It's been like this for days.

Yep definately sore throat. Coming down with something.

Probably from the grandies.

Life's a b**** and then you die. Who cares.

Hope the window is still open tomorrow.

Short update

Waking up occasionally with a start feeling anxious and /or brain zaps.

Have had some windows but the curtains are still drawn 😟

Not good enough to feel excited or motivated to do anything new or special. Just plodding along. Listening to or reading anything motivational is having the opposite effect. Just reminds me what I haven't done or could've done or might've been.

Perhaps it is too late after all 😥

I'm getting over a bout of the flu, not serious thankfully and decided to take a supplement to boost my immune system. I chose one containing Echinacea AC&E and Zinc

Unfortunately even if I take just 1 a day I'm getting a sick headache.

I'm a bit surprised as I've been feeling "stable" for the best part of a couple of months.

Any thoughts please?

It might be the additional stress your body is going through to recover from the flu.

Thanks ChessieCat. I was really hoping to take these. The flu has been particularly bad here this year.

Hi Bubbles. My doctor said it was the flu just from the symptoms I had.

The first 4 days I spent in bed with a fever. When I stood up my whole body was like jelly lol

The main thing was feeling nauseous not wanting to eat. She said that was a common thread with this season's flu people were also struck down with vomiting as well. Thankfully I didn't get that.

I didn't have the flu jab but hubby did and he was the first to get it two weeks later then I got it about 4 days later.

Do you think you have the flu? Don't ignore it get checked out by your doctor xx

Me? No, I think it's just a bad cold. That does sound like flu. Interesting that your husband had it first, even though he'd had the jab. Hope you're on the mend now.

Haven't been here for a while but update time!

I guess overall I'm going OK. Can't say the windows are amazing but happy to say no waves! Wished for more motivation and excitement about life but generally just continuing on an even keel.

Symptoms lately have only been thumping heartbeat for about a month now which gets worse if I stress or even get excited about something and waking up feeling anxious for no reason but it's manageable but nevertheless a bit worrying as I have a heart condition and have to make sure I'm not discounting that. I really believe the magnesium is helping with this for sure.

Chewing the inside of my mouth is another one. Have to work on stopping that 😥

And the last week or so waking up with a blocked left ear. No cold sinus problem etc just a blocked ear.

Oh and lots of headaches, weird head 😥

Geez now I've put it all down I'm not doing a good as I thought 🤔🤔 but there's nothing that's causing too much of an issue.

So that's it for now I think I'm almost at the 2 year mark so hopefully I'm done with it all.

Can anyone who has been off Lexapro two years please tell me if you're still having symptoms and what ones? Is it even possible?

I'm getting bad dizzy spells recently and obviously don't know if it's related or not. I have read about it happening but not at this stage of withdrawal. I didn't have them earlier on at all. Can't go to doctors and ask the question because we all know what the reply would be 😥😥

Are the dizzy spells associated with anything you're doing or eating?

Did this come on suddenly? How do you experience it?

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.

I don't think so. I just woke up with it. Moved my head and the room was spinning. Felt a bit unsteady on my feet then a couple of days ago my ear felt blocked and pressure in my head. It's subsided a bit now but it's noisy, ringing a bit 😫. This is the third time my ear has done this. There's no pain with it so I don't think it's an ear infection that's why I'm reluctant to go to the doctor and be put on antibiotics "just in case".

My blood pressure is fine and had my bloods done a few months ago. No issues there.

Your very welcome.

I should have been more specific, it's usually the OUTER ear infections, like swimmers ear that are very painful.

Inner ear infections can be pain free but  manifest in symptoms such as dizziness or even just nausea if the equilibrium is just off enough to sensitize your system.

My mother had one and didn't even know it, only diagnosed during a follow up exam for a different condition.

Enjoy the weekend!

I'm really glad you told me. I've just made an appointment with my GP. If I don't have an infection then I can look into other reasons for it.

I'm just really hoping it's not withdrawal related

I've been off Lexapro 2 years now and dread to think new symptoms could pop up now 👿👿

If ever there was a time of the year for me to have an uptick of symptoms I thought long past, the dreaded "Autumn Withdrawal Surprise" is always it for Me.

Symptoms pop up for me in Sept and Oct I haven't had since the previous Autumn.

But it's spring down there for you now, right?

Prudence says get it checked out if you've been stable so long.

  • 6 months later...

I was recently prescribed Pantaprazole for heartburn. I wish I'd read about them here before I took them.

Being off Lexapro for nearly three years I was still a bit hesitant and decided to only take one if I needed to. One or two a week couldn't hurt surely. WRONG!!

I soon developed a racing heartbeat, high blood pressure, hot headaches, chest tightness and panic attacks two nights in a row. My head felt heavy and weird reminiscent of early days of withdrawal.

Now I'm wondering if it really could've been caused by the tablets or am I just becoming paranoid about taking medications?

I seriously thought both nights I was going to have a heart attack.

The worse part is feeling your heart thumping away in your chest and hearing it in your ears 😫😫

I don't know if it is the medication, or that you are paranoid about taking meds.  Having been on the Lexapro, your system may still be sensitive to drugs and other things.

Either way, if it were me, I would discontinue the Pantaprazole.  See if you can find non drug solutions for heartburn.  For example, eating your bigger meal earlier in the day, avoid trigger foods, use an extra pillow so your upper body is at an angle.
