Thank you both for visiting  and for your encouragement.  You are both teaching me that support and friendship from others sharing similar ups-and-downs is so important.  We are not unique and we are not alone.

Distractions are so important, I am finding out myself. anything to take the focus off of symptoms!

14 hours ago, Gracee said:

I won't take another sleep aid for at least a week as I refuse to become dependent.

this seems wise; the last two days I came home from work and had wine to relax. it was such a relief from the constant feeling of anxiety but  I should probably do the same thing - not do it again for a week.

Currently taking Ramapril (blood pressure) 5 mg twice a day

Omeprazole 10 mg AM and 20 mg PM  (the taper has gone nowhere after the first cut)

Famotidine   once a day (and I still needs tums sometimes)

magnesium 200 mg at night

as of yesterday 2 fish oil capsules "EPA-DHA 1000"

off Lexapro as of 5/2018  - last dose had been 5 mg every other day for a couple years

highest dose had been 20 mg at which point I was diagnosed with Bipolar II, which went away when I cut the lexapro down to 15 mg.

I spent years on Paxil before Lexapro (can't remember dose), briefly on Effexor and Abilify and others I have forgotten. in fact, when I was diagnoses with BPII I was put on all kinds of things which made me feel so bad I stopped them cold turkey within maybe 3 or 4 weeks, thank goodness. since then I've known these pills were terrible and I weaned down the Lexapro with zero help or support over I'm not sure how many years.

Coincidentally, it was wine that brought me to Paxil.   To cope and relax, I sipped wine daily after work, as well as on weekends ......starting earlier in the day.  It didn't take long  to develop an addiction to alcohol.   When I quit alcohol, my doctor prescribed Paxil for horrible alcohol withdrawal anxiety, plus two week's of Xanax to take while Paxil was kicking in.   I was sternly warned not to mix Paxil with alcohol.   I've stayed sober for 16 years, with a brief relapse on one vacation, but still think about drinking. With this taper, I find myself craving wine and imagine myself ordering it at a restaurant.   I pray I don't give in to these cravings.  Some people are predisposed to addiction, it seems I am one of them.

Just my daily status report:

Nearly 2 a.m. before falling asleep.   Up at 7 a.m. feeling OK.    Did some light chores and a little yard cleanup.  Lounged around in afternoon because of busy day tomorrow.  A quick 1/2 mile walk.  No napping.  Epson salts bath.  Resumed magnesium citrate.  Only slight tinnitus.  All-and-all nice window.

Daily report:

Took a Benadryl before bed last night.  Slept pretty good.  Felt good all day and was busy with Friday stuff.  Only WD symptom is the ever-present tinnitus.   I can live with that.  If this stability continues for another week, I'll try a small dose reduction.  Taking it a day at a time.

I know I cannot change my circumstances, but I can control my attitude and behavior.

I believe acceptance, distractions and maintaining a positive outlook help ease the discomfort of withdrawal.

Dear Gracee,

That is a wonderful attitude. You are going to be fine. : )

It seems that tinnitus, like all withdrawal symptoms, does heal. In any case you have a great attitude and I really want to congratulate and encourage you for all you've accomplished so far. I've read just a bit of your thread, and I can certainly relate to having multiple attempts to trying to get off Paxil over the years (before finding this site). You're doing great. One day we will be free, and celebrate! ❤️

2020: After 18+ years (entire adult life) on Paxil, a dangerous doctor-led "taper" in 2015, and four years tapering off the last 1 mg thanks to SA and the Brassmonkey slide,

I AM COMPLETELY FREE OF PAXIL! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Forever.

2021: Began conservative, proper, CNS-respecting taper of Zoloft, led by the only expert on me -- me. Making own liquid. 5-10% plus holds.

2022: Holding on Zoloft for now. Current dose 47 mg. Hanging in, hanging on. Severe protracted PAWS, windows and waves. While I may not be doing "a lot" by outside standards, things are graaaaadually getting better

Yoga (gentle to medium); walks; daily breath practice; nutrition, fruits/veg; nature; water; EastEnders (lol); practicing self-compassion, self-care; boundaries; connection; allowing feelings; t r u s t ing that I, too, will heal. (--> may need to be reminded of this.)

@SkyBlue, Just can't thank you enough for your kind words and encouragement.    It means a lot.  I have read your signature and think I will be a fan of the BrassMonkey Slide too.   Best wishes.

me, too. when I was young and had boyfriends every single one of them was an alcoholic and I assumed I was at risk of it, too. then I had weight loss surgery and learned my risk went up because of it.

so I am watching things closely.

but after a couple weeks of non-stop anxiety the day I came home early (because of the terrible weather) I had wine and it was SUCH a relief just not to feel anxious for a few hours.

I know wine should be occasional and to celebrate or be social, not to have at home alone for stress relief. I know this.

Hi @JackieDecides   Of course, I agree you need to do what works for you and I try to do what works for me.  I only speak from my own experiences, never offering suggestions to others unless they ask.  Hope you are feeling WD Normal.   I think I'm OK.   Got a taste of adrenaline rush early this morning when I woke up.   Didn't like it one bit.

Feeling Good.  Got to sleep OK past few nights. No sleep aids.  Woke up a lot, but that's my normal.   Felt groggy when I woke up at 6 a.m. like I wanted to sleep more, but the cortisol troll came knocking so I got the heck out of bed.

Update:

Dropped dose today from 33.75 to 33.  Have some concerns about accuracy of digital scale so will take that in consideration re upcoming WD symptoms.   Planning liquid taper after next drop, but don't want to think too far ahead.   One day at a time.

Hi Gracee,

I’m just wondering why you dropped so soon? It’s best to hold for at least a month. You’ve only held for just over a fortnight. It’s too soon. I know you like going quickly, when you first came here you said you had three unsuccessful attempts at trying to taper. If you go quick again the same thing will happen.

Take care💚

You can get off these meds this time if you go slow and have long holds. You failed the last three times because you always went too quick. Slow and steady does it. We can win this battle.💚

If you switch to liquid, be sure to do a crossover switch to minimize effects on your system from the change:

1/4 liquid, 3/4 pill for 3 to 7 days

1/2, 1/2 for 3 to 7 days

3/4 liquid, 1/4 pill for 3 to 7 days

all liquid thereafter

Gridley Introduction

Lexapro 20 mg since 2004.  Begin Brassmonkey Slide Taper Jan. 2017.

End 2017 year 1 of taper at 9.25mg

End 2018 year 2 of taper at 4.1mg

End 2019 year 3 of taper at 1.0mg

Oct. 30, 2020  Jump to zero from 0.025mg.  Current dose: 0.000mg

3 year, 10 month taper is 100% complete.

Ativan 1 mg to 1.875mg 1986-2020, two CT's and reinstatements

Nov. 2020, 7-week Ativan-Valium crossover to 18.75mg Valium

Feb. 2021, begin 10%/4 week taper of 18.75mg Valium

End 2021  year 1 of Valium taper at 6mg

End 2022 year 2 of Valium taper at 2.75mg

Hi Gracee,

Definitely  do a crossover when you eventually go to liquid, as Gridley mentioned. When you change to different formulations you can go into waves. When I changed from my tablets to compounding capsules I went through waves for about three months. I knew nothing about crossovers then. When I went back to my original tablet I did a crossover and it went really well.

Wishing you all the best with your tapering 💚

If you switch to liquid, be sure to do a crossover switch to minimize effects on your system from the change:

1/4 liquid, 3/4 pill for 3 to 7 days

1/2, 1/2 for 3 to 7 days

3/4 liquid, 1/4 pill for 3 to 7 days

all liquid thereafter

Thanks @Gridley. Sure do appreciate your reminder and made note of the above fractions. For me, I think the liquid dosing will be more accurate.  My scale is a bit wonky, so now I'm constantly weighing and reweighing. Already have the liquid dosing equipment and did a couple of trial runs to become comfortable with the measuring.   I'll continue pill cutting until after I'm comfortable at 30 mg.....a ways off.      Best wishes on your continued journey.

I regret making that "dumb" remark; that was just stupid of me.  Too late to edit.  My typing fingers work faster than my brain which I fear is lacking way too many cells due to long-term AD use.

Anyway,   tell me about Holy Basil.  I am not familiar with it.

Yup, will do.   I've been following  your thread since I joined SA and your crossover was the first time  I'd heard about crossovers.  Love reading about your taper experience and your day-to-day journey in general.

Status update:

Still feeling very good.  Didn't notice any WD symptoms today.  Tinnitus, even in evening,  has let up, but not totally gone. I wasn't really aware of my tinnitus until typing here.

Sleep past three nights somewhat improved.   Enjoying this window.

❤️  we will never take sleep for granted again, will we?  I hope not.  so glad you are doing well.

Thanks @JackieDecides,  You are so right.  A somewhat decent night's sleep is precious these days.  Today, while reading, I dozed off for awhile, something I try not to do.  Fingers crossed that doesn't mess up my sleep tonight.

Another good day in terms of WD.   I'm going to try Melatonin 3mg tonight.  I tried this supplement years ago with no results so we'll see.

Hi Gracee,

I’m happy you had a good day, and I’m very glad you’re still holding. Just continue with the slow and steady method and make sure you hold at least a month between tapers and you will get there. When you go to liquid a crossover will certainly be the best way to do it, as you already know.

If you continue in a window and in withdrawal normal a month after the last taper you did you should be okay to do the next reduction. Hope you’re enjoying your weekend💚

Status report:

Still having good days.  Occasional fuzzy head comes and goes which is WDNormal along with manageable tinnitus.      Three nights ago, introduced Melatonin 3mg and it may be helping with sleep a bit.  Nothing new to report except I'm thrilled we are back in the 70's with sunshine.

Hi, Gracee. If you started at 3mg melatonin, you might find less works better. Melatonin is funny that way. Effective doses start at 0.25mg.

You might want to try half a 3mg tablet, see what happens.

Thanks @Altostrata.   I will do that and report results in a few days. Your input is priceless.

Does anyone know what is a good brand?

I know a lot of supplements out there don't necessarily have what they're supposed to have in them, and I think I remember reading that melatonin was especially bad that way, does anyone know?
