Hey guys, it's me NaturalBorn, i didn't forget about you guys, so here i am to write my success story, it has been 2 years and 3 months since i found this forum, and you can check my story somewhere, it was pretty ugly, went CT from 300mg of effexor, got horrific withdrawals, reinstated after some months out of despair, started doing a bunch of recreational drugs, went to rehab, got put into some crazy cocktail of antypsychotics and antidepressatns and some other stuff, tried quitting, got pretty messed, up, long story, but here i am to tell you guys i'm living a completely normal life, i don't think about withdrawals not one single second of my day ever, all over, i work a half time job, was going to college (now studying home), have tried everything since i quit, nothing makes me feel any worst or anything,  if anything when i workout VERY HARD, i think i have a hard time sleeping, idk might not even be true since i always had a crazy sleeping pattern,  but that's it concerning lingering side effects, other than that i tried every exercise possible, from jogging to boxing, crazy diets, fasting for long periods of time, and i'm great, life is just normal again, way more normal then when i started doing meds in the first place... i feel better than ever cognitively, i feel as sharp as a knife when it comes to analytical thinking, debating, all that stuff, and i had great grades at college after all that, so i don't have any brain damage as far as cognitive function goes,  and i'm not gonna be trying to push anything here, but i did became a christian, and i do belive God healed me, since then life has been completely different (for better), if anyone wants to talk with me about anything, feel free to message me, or even call me on skype or whatever, i would love that! Cheers guys, i pray evebody get better and moves on with their lives.

Hi @NaturalBorn! Nice to read your success story! Congratulations! These success stories are so nice for us newbies on the site!! They give us a lot of hope and encouragement

On a different note, I had a question about the experience of your beliefs - before ADs, during ADs, and after ADs.

I used to have a very strong Christian faith before going on ADs. Then, during the time I've been on ADs, my faith has slowly deteriorated. I still pray and go to church. But, my faith is not really there in any substantial way. This is all to ask: did you notice your set of beliefs change when (1) before you went on ADs to when you starting taking them, and then (2) from when you were on ADs to when you came off them?

Thanks again for sharing!! :)

Hey @SkyStreamer i had no faith before december of 2016 ~ around there, i would say i became serious about christianity on january of 2017,  so i cant really awnser that lol, at best you could say i was agnostic, i wouldn't totally denie the existence of a deity, but i definetly wasn't a christian, i came to Christ because of the whole withdrawal situation actually, i was desperate, but since then my faith has been pretty strong, sure, life isn't perfect, i don't expect it to be, but it's better than ever, that's for sure. Anyway, thanks for interacting!

You will recover.  I too have three drugs to taper and I am confident I will get off all three.  Yes, it will take a long time, but there's no avoiding that.  Go slowly, take one drug at a time, and know you will get off.

Gridley Introduction

Lexapro 20 mg since 2004.  Begin Brassmonkey Slide Taper Jan. 2017.

End 2017 year 1 of taper at 9.25mg

End 2018 year 2 of taper at 4.1mg

End 2019 year 3 of taper at 1.0mg

Oct. 30, 2020  Jump to zero from 0.025mg.  Current dose: 0.000mg

3 year, 10 month taper is 100% complete.

Ativan 1 mg to 1.875mg 1986-2020, two CT's and reinstatements

Nov. 2020, 7-week Ativan-Valium crossover to 18.75mg Valium

Feb. 2021, begin 10%/4 week taper of 18.75mg Valium

End 2021  year 1 of Valium taper at 6mg

End 2022 year 2 of Valium taper at 2.75mg

End 2023 year 3 of Valium taper at 1mg

Jan. 24, 2024: Hold at 1mg and shift to Imipramine taper.

Taper is 95% complete.

Imipramine 75 mg daily since 1986.  Jan.-Sept. 2016 tapered to 14.4mg

March 22, 2022: Begin 10%/4 week taper

Aug. 5, 2022: hold at 9.5mg and shift to Valium taper

Jan. 24, 2024: Resume Imipramine taper.  Current dose as of April 1: 6.8mg

Taper is 91% complete.

Supplements: multiple, quercetin, omega-3, vitamins C, E and D3, magnesium glycinate, probiotics, zinc, melatonin .3mg, iron, serrapeptase, nattokinase

Is it possible to start feeling better/stabalizing while coming off other drugs?

Yes.  For example, I am in better condition now at 3.7mg Lexapro than I was a year ago at 9.2mg.  That doesn't mean I'm perfect but I am functioning and have windows and good days (and some waves and bad days).  My symptoms overall are better than a year ago. Just go slowly and don't let the time frame get you down.

@India , oh yeah, i forgot, believe it or not (really it's up to you) when i became a christian it was a matter of 2~3 weeks and i was around 100%, already begin working as a uber driver and the sleepless nights went away, i also quit smoking cold turkey and threw the rest of my trazadone away, that's the honest to God truth, i say "when i became a christian" because i believe that's the reason why i got better, anyway, thanks for the question i think i'm gonna add that to the original post

  • ChessieCat changed the title to NaturalBorn successful story

Sounds great that its going well! Tell you the truth, I felt slightly religious too, wishing that something would watch over me so that I healed well. Right now I'm concentrating on other aspects of my life (school and family), but that fact that I found this website is a pretty good act of higher power in itself.

My medications were short-timed and low-dosed, but still affected my life a lot; all this is in 2017.

June 21 - June 28 (inpatient) - 300 mg lithium

June 6 -  July 14 (inpatient then outpatient) - 10 mg zyprexa

July 14 - July 17 (outpatient try taper) - 7.5 mg zyprexa

July 18 - July 21 (outpatient doctor changed) - 10 mg zyprexa

July 21 - July 24 (outpatient doctor said got worse) -  15 mg zyprexa

July 25 - now (quit ct with family supervision) - nothing

I quit ct and was successful, but there were tons of symptoms and without my family support probably impossible. My situation was fortunate, and maybe if I tapered there would be less symptoms. But I feel what worked was a will to keep going, patience, and attitude to want to get better in any situation ct or tapering.

Good for you. I'm not a Christian but withdrawal is what brought me the closest to God, I believe withdrawal can be a huge catalyst for deep spiritual awakening for many people. In that sense it's a real blessing. I'm glad you have found yourself again and may you continue to live well.

2008-2013 - Various meds on and off since age 18 incl. Sertraline, Prozac, Mirtazipine, Abilify. Prescribed for severe OCD.

CT'd several times over these years and reinstated after subsequent psych hospitalisations.

2014-2015 - Clomipramine, quetiapine and Epilum

2015-Jan 2017 - Prozac 40mg (stopped contraceptive pill, most stable period of time)

(Beginning of taper) Jan-October 2017 - Tapered Prozac to zero.

15 Jan 2018 - Reinstated Prozac at 2mg due to acute w/d symptoms

February 2018 - tapered to 1.8mg

May 2018 - reinstated at 5mg due to severe w/d symptoms. 9 month hold, stabilized well at around 6/7 months.

March 2019 - Tapered to 4.9mg

Current supplements: fish oils, probiotic, ashwaganda, colostrum powder, cannabis

@Ryder Hey man, when i began following Christ and decided to quit the meds i was already finishing a long taper (about 4 months), so i was at a very low dosage of trazadone when i finally quit, can't remember exactly what, but very low.

Before going to rehab (wich is where i was put on the cocktail) i was on 300mg of effexor again and at the clinic they tappered me in about 2 weeks, while adding all the new drugs, seroquel, trazadone and abilify, it was pretty ok, problems came back when i tried quitting the cocktail... anyway, thanks for the chatting, pray you get better.

(i'm brazlian so please, ignore spelling mistakes) 2015 the beggining of the year started with effexor xr 37,5

went up to 300mgs

in october of 2015 quitted COLD TURKEY/took olanzapine 5mgs for 2 weeks around november/ reinstated effexor in january of 2016

in march of 2016 was at 300mg again

in may tappered effexor xr and added trazodone 150mgs, seroquel 50mgs and abilify 10 mgs/in july cold turkey from abilify (no big deal)

in september tried reducing trazadone to 50mg

after 2 weeks went back to 150mgs of trazadone and 50 mgs of seroquel and added 2 mgs of klonopin to use WHEN NEEDEED

currently taking 150mgs of trazadone and 50 mgs of seroquel at night

Very true! Ironically, I felt that withdrawal has been one of the first real opportunities i"ve had to try and confront my fears and worries and to learn not to let them overpower me into enslavement. I still wish I didn't have to go through withdrawal, but I'm certainly thankful for the chance to try and deal with these issues. I have been running from fear and anxiety my whole life.

I think everyone has ups and downs in their faith.... I would say keep praying and going to church -- as in my opinion, that's important, and also maybe try to read a passage of the Bible for a few minutes every day.  God will speak to you.  You might not feel him at times, but He is there....

Also, maybe seek out some good uplifting books on faith to read.  Everybody has a different personality and interests, so different authors appeal to different people, but I really enjoy reading books by C.S. Lewis and Norman Vincent Peale. I think he may have even written a book on prayer and if not a book, definitely has discussed it.   One of my friends likes this authors, and has signed up for his daily emails:  https://ronrolheiser.com/en/#.XG8OOi0ZPSc    There are also youtube videos too that are good by different personalities who are strong in their faith and listening to them will likely inspire you.....

It was nice reading your short response just now! Comforting to know we're not alone in the battle.

Funny - I'm just about to go to bed and I'm terrified about the possibility of having nightmares tonight. I had a few terrifying nightmares two nights ago, and my mind keeps whispering to me, 'they're coming again tonight.' Such a pain, that mind is!! I'm trying my best not to worry and not to be afraid of them, and just to accept whatever happens. Tough to stand firm in this, but it's the best course of action.

Hey guys i just felt like giving you guys an update on how i am now, it has been 3 years and i couldn't be better, i remember saying that the only side effect that i steel had was that when i overstimulated my central nervous system i use to have a hard time sleeping and felt anxious for the rest of the day, i use to think that this was some lingering damage from the wd, but a friend of mine told he expiriences the same thing, so... turns out i kept pushing it and now it's over, i'm very much into powerlifting now (squats, bench press, and deadlift) wich causes ridiculous ammounts of stress in your body, specially the central nervous system, and i'm hitting personal records every week, i'm in the shape of my life, i also take a lot of stimulants before the workouts and i'm just fine, but i did had to push (maybe i just had to get used to it) idk... anyway, i feel great, life is good, God is good, i'm alright, thank you all for the time you dedicated helping and listening to me, i pray you all get better for real, God bless

@NaturalBorn did u have continuous Tinnitus while you quit cold turkey and this symptoms also went away in 2 years ?

And u had visual issues ?

No tinnitus for me, visual effects yes, but it could probably just be anxiety, i use to "see" some colored points and stuff like that

NB- what were the first signs of you healing to where you felt like you were going to be okay. Like recovery was really happening. Did your withdraws dissipate slowly.

Thanks Russ

The first thing i remember was that my anxiety went away and i could sleep better, it did took like some days, but probably some of that was me being skeptical of improving, idk...

i do know that a lot of what i felt was anxiety induced symptoms, i can feel pretty similar to that if i abuse nicotine and coffe and try to go to sleep is like i'm in a nightmare, so i never smoke, but i guess that's "normal", other than that i couldn't be better
