Hello, I'll reply on your thread LRH.

I follow a lectin limited lifestyle laid out by Dr.Gundry, This list of foods I follow are here on this Yes/No list. https://drgundry.com/dr-gundrys-print-friendly-yes-no-lists/ Lectins cause inflammation in the human body and it has been proven by this doctor in his over 20 years of practicing restorative medicine. This doctor is one of the best hearts surgeons in the world and quit his job doing that as he realized he can save more lives through nutrition than surgery and he definitely has!

I had tried 3 times to get off this medication in the past with no nutritional changes. I failed everytime. The two CTs were bad ideas and I legit went crazy and was unable to control myself. The other was a tapered attempt and after about 5 weeks the WDs were too intense I thought it was the return of the original symptoms so I went back on the medication. This time I am now 14 months and 6 days off.... but whose counting :P The main reason I was able to stay off this time is a combination of nutritional changes to change my microbiome(over 80% of the serotonin in the body is created in the gut not the brain), mindset and the great help of this forum. I notice when I fall back into old eating habits... my WDs spike big time so it is a great reminder to stick the course and it has helped immensely.

If you have any questions ask away.

Everyday that passes is one day closer to being healed :)

Thanks coco 👍

@Altostrata

hi alto I’m 1.5 days late taking my meds due to chemist not having supplies

have just  taken both

will I have a problem

have missed one 6mg dose Paxil

and 67.5mg   pregabalin (3x22.5mg)  ?
Meaning is there likely to

be any repercussions such as a “nice” wave ?

I can't tell the future. Variations in dosage tend to produce bumps in the road. I cannot predict whether this will be severe or mild. It will take a week or so to settle down.

Morning @Altostrata

have a  dilemma
hope you can help

me

as you know I’ve been tapering from Paxil and have got down to 6mg

couldnt get my prescription for Paxil or pregabalin Mistake on chemist part so ended up without either med for 1.5 days

have taken two doses now of Paxil at usual time and four doses of pregabalin again at usual

times

but think I’m having a bad reaction I have severe anxiety/akathesia Like I’m wired to the point I want to hit myself to stop it and insomnia Waking with severe body jolts and burning skin ?
is this a reaction to the Paxil after tapering and then going without for 1.5 days . Have I now become sensitive to the dose ?
or could it be both meds ?

ive only had a tiny decrease in pregabalin dose over the months so I’m thinking it’s definitely the Paxil that’s causing bad reaction as I’ve had the same symptoms during tapering with Paxil but nothing like this !
thank you 🙏 I await your reply

You've gotten Paxil withdrawal syndrome from having skipped almost 2 days, plus you may be reacting to taking a double dose of Paxil.

You'll have to breathe through this and let your nervous system settle down. Please let us know how you're doing.

That’s a great improvement. And I just checked out your signature, 5.9 mg Paxil 💪💪💪

Doesn’t it feel good to look at how far you have come. When I was tapering, I was so happy with every step I took to lower my Paxil, even the tiny bits decreases was in my eyes huge.
Sending you my best wishes, and cheering for you💪

I'm so glad for you....god, this stuff is nasty, isn't it? I'm ok thank you, bless you, I'm looking after myself well at the moment. LOTS of rest. Have been walking 5k instead of running, 3x per week, doing some yoga/meditation/eating well.

I like reaching out to people, I find it also helps me...especially as I'm living alone. It's good to have that link with people.Doing ok, not exactly skipping around cos feeling a bit under the weather at the moment...think it's a regular cold/ bit of hayfever....but am definitely back at a decent WD normal over the last 6 days. Hoping it will continue for a good string of days.

I ended up having some sort of symptoms until after I was drug free for 18 months. In general they were quit mild with the exception of several bad waves. For the most part my symptoms were very mild from around the 1.5mgai mark.  I was in severe poopout for several years before I started to taper.  It took about two years to sort that out, but from there on it was steady improvement.

Anxiety is probably the most reported symptom we get.  It comes and goes as it sees fit throughout and after a taper. There are two types of anxiety, that which is caused chemically by the actions of the drug and that which is cause by situational triggers and self induced worry. The situational and self induced usually responds to CBT, AAF and the like, but there isn't much that can be done for the drug induced type. However, it is just an unpleasant feeling and is not going to harm a person. It can be worked around and ignored with practice. It tends to come in windows and waves, with the waves lasting from a few minutes to several months.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Hi Alto

thank you for asking

I don’t think the 1.5 days without meds has had a big affect .
The anxiety had ramped up more prior to this and I think it has to do with tapering Even though I’m doing the Brass Monkey tapering method of four weeks reducing to a total of 10% then holding for two weeks . Nobody seems to be Symptom free tapering from

Paxil from what I have read on this site. Do you agree ?
Also I have had a big change in my personal life they could have contributed to the heightened anxiety.

question for you : I was started on Paxil for anxiety and depression many  years ago .
have you seen others on this site successfully come off antidepressants and manage their anxiety and depression ( their original diagnosis) going forward without meds or even have the symptoms go away altogether?

thank you Alto Take care  x

People do taper off Paxil without much problem but for the most part, people here have had prior difficulty going off and they're still having difficulty.

Yes, people learn to manage whatever symptoms caused them to take antidepressants in the first place. You will need to take responsibility for doing this yourself.

Hey LRH, those two reasons are the exact reason I went on paroxetine in the first place.( I was chronically depressed and unable to leave my houses often 50% of the time due to insane anxiety attacks) I have had almost none of those original symptoms come back, other than some slight anxiety caused by WDs( I am now 15 months paroxetine free). Psychiatrists love to use the chemical imbalance theory to get you as life long customer. People forget that pharma and healthcare ARE MASSIVE BUSINESS $$$$. But what did they do to confirm this? In my case all I did was have a chat and took a 30-40 year old survey on anxiety and this is how they determined I had a chemical imbalance, not sure how yours went down? Quite odd considering if they know what causes it they should be able to test it to confirm it, right?

A majority of serotonin is created in the gut, over 80%. So food would be a MASSIVE factor in that creation of serotonin. I have tried 3 times before with no nutritional changes and had every original symptom come back and was unable to stay off the medication. This time I changed my nutrition and have been able to come off and am reversing all my health conditions AND smashing personal fitness goals that I could not obtain 10 years ago!!!!!!

Everyday that passes is one day closer to being healed :)

I follow The Plant Paradox lifestyle by Dr.Gundry. This lifestyle has given me my life back and I feel better than I have ever felt in my life. It has enabled me to finally get off of this medication and truly live my life. Nutrition is the key to health!!!!!

2008 to 2019  - 20 mg Paroxetine

Attempted 2 CT's around the 5-6 year mark. Were absolutely terrible and reinstated. Was never explained by the doctor the seriousness of the short half life of this drug.

2017 - Attempted a tapered discontinuation of this drug and reinstated after being unsuccessful.

2019 - Feb. 12 - After a three month taper I am off of paroxetine. The 3 months were terrible, awful withdrawal feelings. I followed the doctors guidelines for the reduction of this drug and now know it was way too fast.
2019 - Oct. 12 - 8 months off paroxetine. 75% improvement since coming off the drug. Definitely have had tons of challenges along the way. Let’s go!!!!

2021 - Feb. 12 - 24 months off paroxetine. I have minor challenges now. Tinnitus/Headaches are still around but are reduced by a massive amount.

Hi Hanna

I very much intend to be a Paxil survivor . The longer WD goes on the more coping skills i learn to deal with symptoms though at times they are still unbearable I always say to myself tomorrow could be a better day. And sometimes it is. :)

I thank the lord for this site don’t know how I’d have managed without it .

i continue my taper at 10% reductions

best wishes to you too

Hi coco

thank you for your reply and sorry I’m late answering you seemed to have slipped the net !

how long did you have anxiety And depression for prior to medication ?

have never taken any kind of a test when going to the doctors for depression and anxiety  . I was just prescribed Paxil and was told it was none addictive.
if only I had known ..

sounds like the diet is working for you and I’m so glad about that.
Is it hard to stick to ?

what was your health conditions?

I'm currently on 5.5mg  And find I’m never symptom free I think being in tolerance for a very long time prior to tapering  is a contributing factor. Brass monkey took 2.5 years of tapering to start to see any improvement as he was in tolerance too.
I’m  hoping the lower I go the better I will feel eventually .

Hey!

No worries! I appreciate your reply!

Years....I would say at least 8... maybe even longer, I was so young that I cannot remember further into the past.

That infuriates me... IT IS SO WRONG that they are allowed to just deny deny deny and then prescribe more and more. It is the capitalist mentality....Not all are like this. But some will throw all morals out the window for cash, even human life.

I thought it would be....but now it is like second nature. I will not let my nutrition derail me anymore. I have slipped up enough and it crushed me. I am using what works for me and this is the main variable I have changed with coming off the medication this time compared to the previous 3 times that all did not succeed.

In late 2015 I started losing my hair... fast like full head of hair to bald in under a year. This condition is called alopecia areata. I came to accept it as doctor told me this is an autoimmune disease and they don' tknow why it happens. It just became something I would have to deal with. A few years later it was progressing to full body hair loss, alopecia universalis. I have regrown all my hair on my head, the pigment is returning slowly. With this condition it comes back unpigmented and gains pigment as you heal. I went from bald to 100% regrowth and 95% pigment in just over a year after coming off the medication....this is not coincidental with the medication. It was caused by this medication and the inflammation is causes in the body. I had chronic fatigue as well..... I had zero energy for many years. I also had my tonsil get sooooo inflamed that I had to get them removed as they caused issued with swallowing. This was after about 6 years of paroxetine use. My blood would not clot either. I came to accept this as my normal. It took along time to clot. Even my tonsil ruptured 1 week after surgery. Now my blood clots way faster than I am used to. I would consider this normal as I got so used to the way it clotted before from over a decade of being on medication. The way my body heals is also WAY faster. I have been putting my body through way more physical exercises everyday and I recover faster. I would get injuries in sports and they would nag for months, now I have 1 day if that for recovery from physical exertion!

Yes, the body is able heal from anything. I truly believe this after going through this. I strongly believe the "standard" nutritional guidelines are awful. One other thing that was extremely rough and comparable to PAWS was withdrawing from sugar when I first started this journey and cold turkeyed it. I laid in bed for almost 3 days with no energy and was shaking/sweating it was tough, but worth it.

You will feel better. Slow and steady wins the race. That is awesome that you are having a good day today! Yes, the window and waves pattern is SO accurate. You will get there! Everyday that passes is one day closer to being healed :)

I have a few nagging one. I get headaches and tinnitus everyday. I have had these since I first started tapering. They were AWFUL in severity and have been getting better slowly each month. I get random spasms throughout my body at times. But they are so sparse it doesn't really bother me. I would say 95% of the symptoms have resided. The remaining ones have dropped in severity. We will get through this and live strong lives after this is done!

Have a great evening! :)

Have a great evening! :)

Coco

i love your post ! So positive

interesting what Paxil did to you while on it.
I have had symptoms for years that I just thought was me and now I know it was Paxil pooping out on me . Tinnitus,  terrible  brain fog random  aches and pains . Like you sports injuries that happened so easily and took so long to heal.  And much more

since tapering I’ve had many symptoms

Ive had hives for 9 months and although they have improved somewhat they are still with me daily and bothersome . This is why I now need to look at my diet.

I also have dry hair that breaks all the time and is like straw. Again something I’ve never had before tapering .

Paxil effects  the whole system and I can’t wait to be rid of it for good.

You are nearly healed from this poison and  an inspiration to others 😊

Thanks :) My perspective on life has changed and I refuse to be negative anymore. It does not accomplish anything.

Ya, I blame a 99% of the unknown health conditions I had on the medication. They all have reversed since coming off it. So frustrating that not one medical professional ever even questioned it... even the psychiatrists.

I would highly recommend nutritional changes. This is the only variable I have changed from my other attempts to come off the medication. I also have issues with my toenails.... they have been really brittle and literally broke away. They are now coming back!

Absolutely it does. They try to say its selective but that is so far from the truth. I would not be surprised in the near future if serotonin is linked to  a MASSIVE amount of bodily functions and this medication effects all them.

I am getting there :) Every day that passes is one day closer to being healed :) You will get there!

Hi Coco

Just to let you know I have ordered The Plant Paradox
I intend to try the diet for a month to start to see how it goes .it makes perfect sense to make nutritional changes to improve the gut and immune system.
it is fantastic how it has improved your health . So many changes for the better. I bet you are amazed at the transformation.

I read somewhere that you have also suffered with hives like I have  ?

Awesome! It will challenge everything we are taught about nutrition. It is a very informative book and helped me greatly. I look back now and kind of smack my head abit and am like...well of course the food I put in my body effects it.... it is what builds my body!

I had extreme sensitivity to deodorant and would get pizza size rashes under my armpits when I would apply it. I also had full body rashes from some food I would eat. Both these are related to the high inflammation my body had from long term medication use. I also had erythema multiforme for 2 weeks way back in 2011 and that was awful.

Yes, I tried 2 times to cold turkey this medication... literally went rage crazy. I could not control any of my emotions. The third time was a guided taper by my psychiatrist and I was unable to function after about 6 weeks of tapering. So I chalked it up to the return of the original symptoms and assumed I'd never get off the medication as I was told I needed it for life. This time... the 4th and last time. I made nutritional changes and felt the best I have ever felt in my life and know everything I went through coming off of it is withdrawal.

You have a great weekend as well :)
