jozeff
Hi , Ok, read all the posts. How is your wife doing? How is the situation? I really think going to professional help is the best idea in this crisis situation. As I mentioned I brought my wife to a psychiatric hospital a few weeks after giving birth to our first son. This is NOT a situation we can handle online I think. There is some great advice here that's for sure but the psychiatrists in a hospital have a lot of knowledge. They can calm her, sedate her, talk to her in a certain way etc . These people deal with cases like these every day trust them. She must somehow be helped or calmed down by professionals now, the advice here is more like extra support and help. Without professional help my wife wouldn't have recovered so fast. I know some people here are very sceptical about psychiatric drugs and psychiatrists ( including myself) but there is a lot more to this all then antidepressants and withdrawal. This is a crisis situation and this needs immediate attention. I'm sorry for you man. I have a 2 week old baby and someone walking away in despair is absolutely horrible for the both of you. Is there someone who can help you with your daughter? It might help keeping your thought and actions organized without having to change diapers every 2 hours.... I wish you all the best! This2shallpass
Hi all. I just wanted to come back to this site and apologize on behalf of myself and my husband. I obviously was not in good shape at the time of my post. I just wanted to come back to let everyone know how I’m doing. I did the Prozac bridge on May 10th of this year and got off lexapro on May 31st, I’m happy to report that the bridge worked and I immediately felt better once lexapro was removed. I still have occasional symptoms that I know are still withdrawal and I know it will take a long time to stabilize on the 20mg of Prozac, but I’m just very happy I’m ok and I can take care of my baby, I was so scared. I will come back again once I’m ready to taper the Prozac! I’m going to wait until all of my symptoms have subsided and I feel like I have stabilized. 2010- Celexa 20 mg 2012-lexapro 20mg 2015- lexapro 30mg October 2016- tried a too fast taper of lexapro and completely crashed. I reinstated 10mg after 3 months and it worked. December 2016- started to wean off lexapro with liquid and got off in April of 2018 got pregnant in June of 2018 and remained off lexapro no withdrawal symptoms. february 2019- right after I gave birth I started having withdrawal symptoms March 2019- reinstated 10mg lexapro, it made me very sick May 2019- did a successful Prozac bridge and immediately felt better. currently stabilized on 20mg Prozac Link to comment

This2shallpass
Thanks @Altostrata. I was on the 10mg of lexapro and I started on 10mg of Prozac on May 10th , I was taking lexapro and Prozac at the same time while weaning down on lexapro until May 31st I stopped taking it, however I upped my dose to 20mg of Prozac on that date. I wish I didn’t, but I did and it’s in the past, just hope it’s not too much for my system. Although my psychiatrist really has not had anyone have withdrawal as bad as me, she is willing to support me in whatever I would like to do. I go to acupuncture as well and it really helps a lot, I’m not stabilized because some days are definitely better then others and I do feel like I have the windows and waves pattern. I will come back when I’m ready to taper the Prozac, thank you for all you do. 2010- Celexa 20 mg 2012-lexapro 20mg 2015- lexapro 30mg October 2016- tried a too fast taper of lexapro and completely crashed. This2shallpass
I feel ok. Much better compared to being on lexapro, I honestly felt like I was being poisoned. I still occasionally get a burning feeling in my brain and suicidal thoughts at times which I’ve never had in my life before, especially if I’m stressed but I was able to go back to work, and I have a very high functioning job so I just feel grateful. When I’m ready I’m going to taper by 5% and truly listen to my body as I’m sure I will be extremely sensitive. This2shallpass
Hi all- hope everyone is well and staying safe in this pandemic. I’m feeling so much better and can say most of my symptoms are gone or tolerable. I’m going to talk to my psychiatrist about starting a very very very slow taper soon. Just from everyone’s experience on here, has anyone had a worse withdrawal with one antidepressant vs another? Prozac seems so much more gentler on my body. Acupuncture really helped speed up my stabilization, I found someone who is highly trained and knew right away that my nervous system was out of wack. He has used a pemf machine on me and I truly believe it sped up my healing. 2010- Celexa 20 mg 2012-lexapro 20mg 2015- lexapro 30mg October 2016- tried a too fast taper of lexapro and completely crashed. Moderator Emeritus Shep Posted April 2, 2020 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted April 2, 2020 What drugs are you currently taking? Although Paxil and Effexor are reported in research to be more difficult to taper than other antidepressants, it really is individual. And it depends on how destabilized your nervous system is not only from psych drugs, but from other factors. In withdrawal, everything matters. We recommend tapering the drug you are currently taking, unless there are specific reasons that a crossover to a drug such as Prozac would make sense. Are you still on 20 mg Prozac as you noted last October? How long have you felt better? What symptoms are you still dealing with? Please set up a signature, as this will help us know your drug history at a glance. This2shallpass
Yes, I’m still on 20mg of Prozac. I’ve felt better as soon as I went on the Prozac and lexapro left my system, but I would say the best I’ve felt would be The last 3 months. The Prozac bridge worked for me. my remaining symptoms are a twitch in my throat when I sleep, magnesium helps this. I don’t have a computer at the moment and it’s not letting me update my drug history on my phone. You may want to have a read of this thread by Brassmonkey: Are We There Yet? How Long is Withdrawal Going to Take? Under the topic "But I only took it for a week," you'll see that recovering from even a short time on the drug can be a lengthy process, especially if it involved an adverse reaction. Also, those who cold turkey their drug are likely to have a more lengthy recovery time. You can become dependent on psych drugs in a month, so we've seen short-term use with a cold turkey turn into a difficult and lengthy recovery process. So it's less about how long you were on the drug and more about how traumatized your nervous system becomes. From what you've written, it sounds like you were able to recover a lot from your previous drug changes, so if you go really slow, perhaps do a very gentle micro-taper, you have a much better chance of recovering sooner, as well as maintaining a high level of functionality during your taper. This2shallpass
Hi all. Ive been experiencing small red blotches on my skin every morning and then they go away a few hours later . They are not raised and they do not itch. Moderator Emeritus Shep Posted April 28, 2020 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted April 28, 2020 Yes, some people report having skin issues during their taper and even in the recovery phase. Please see: Skin issues: hives, acne, dryness, itching etc. You may want to google information about low-histamine diets. Some people react to foods that are either high in histamine themselves or are foods that trigger your cells to release histamine. This article will get you started: Low-histamine diet Link to comment

I’m doing ok, I still wake up with hives on and off, definitely has been settling down though m, they are not as severe and not as often. Administrator Altostrata Posted June 17, 2020 Administrator Share Posted June 17, 2020 When a symptom like that appears with regularity, it's related to something else you do with regularity. For example, if you put on pajamas that have been washed with scented detergent at night, you might wake up with contact dermatitis from them the next morning. You need to eliminate all possibilities of something in your environment causing the rash. Detergent, soap, lotion, perfume, powder, etc. are common irritants. Could be heat rash, too. None of these are related to drug withdrawal problems. What times of day do you take each of your drugs, and their dosages? This is not medical advice. This2shallpass
@Altostrata I honestly can’t think of anything and I didn’t change anything recently. I don’t put on lotion or perfume I also switched to a free and clear detergent which didn’t help. I also am very itchy at times especially my scalp which I read could be histamine intolerance. This2shallpass
I noticed the hives on April 9th...some days they are worse and some days they are not there. The only thing I can think of is I started walking in the treadmill and doing some cardio during this time but I have sinced stop. I get the brain zaps towards my period and recently I’ve had some unsweetened iced tea which I realize has some caffeine, and that seemed to set them off. the only other weird symptom I have is my throat twitching when I’m laying down, it swallows involuntarily and that hasn’t gone away since the reinstatement of lexapro last year after giving birth. I don’t know what it is and I didn’t have it during my year and a half taper in 2016. my sleep is okay most days. Some days I do wake up around 3-4am and have to try and fall back asleep, I’m usually exhausted by night time because I’m chasing around a 16month old :) 2010- Celexa 20 mg 2012-lexapro 20mg 2015- lexapro 30mg October 2016- tried a too fast taper of lexapro and completely crashed.
Administrator Altostrata Posted June 18, 2020 Administrator Share Posted June 18, 2020 It would be unusual for you to develop an allergy to Prozac after taking it for a year, unless something else happened to rock the boat. Did you take antibiotics in March or early April? Add or take away any drugs? Those blotches might be just the way you're sleeping, causing abrasion or pressure marks. This is not medical advice. This2shallpass
Hi everyone I hope all is well. I have been on Prozac since 2019 since Tuesday I have been in a horrible place. It feels like I have withdrawal again, burning skin can’t eat, panic. Can you go into tolerance withdrawal on antidepressants? I’m so nervous. 2010- Celexa 20 mg 2012-lexapro 20mg 2015- lexapro 30mg October 2016- tried a too fast taper of lexapro and completely crashed. I reinstated 10mg after 3 months and it worked. This2shallpass
Hi @Altostrata, no, I have never missed a dose. I just talked to my doctor about weaning and prescribing me liquid but I have not changed anything recently. 2010- Celexa 20 mg 2012-lexapro 20mg 2015- lexapro 30mg October 2016- tried a too fast taper of lexapro and completely crashed. This2shallpass
The only thing that changed was that I drank alcohol. Could that temporarily destabilize my nervous system? 2010- Celexa 20 mg 2012-lexapro 20mg 2015- lexapro 30mg October 2016- tried a too fast taper of lexapro and completely crashed. Administrator Altostrata Posted July 10, 2023 Administrator Share Posted July 10, 2023 Yes, alcohol is a notorious destabilizer. Your reaction probably will settle down in a couple of weeks. I would not taper while you have any odd symptoms. See Tips for tapering off fluoxetine (Prozac) This is not medical advice. This2shallpass
Thank you @Altostrata. I know this is most likely due to the alcohol which screwed me up again, I’m experiencing windows for a few days then get hit with panic again- which I think is a good sign. I’m concerned I’m in tolerance withdrawal. Is there such a thing with Prozac? 2010- Celexa 20 mg 2012-lexapro 20mg 2015- lexapro 30mg October 2016- tried a too fast taper of lexapro and completely crashed.
