I had no idea!

I had no idea what I was about to unravel when I thought I could go Cold Turkey and discontinue taking my Paxil on my own after 16 years.  I am heartbroken, scared, and feel totally betrayed by the Pharmaceutical Companies. I have now started a long journey to recovery that I had no idea was coming. I am bound and determined to get off this drug. This site and my will power will now be my tools to live drug free!  I will  now forever be a testament to the power these drugs truly have over us!

Hello, wmiley, and welcome to SA.  The sense of betrayal you describe is very common among those prescribed these drugs.  I am glad you found your way here.

Is mwiley your real name?  If so, in order to preserve anonymity, please choose another name and let us know so we can change it.

Also, please add a signature, including when you discontinued Paxil, date you began and dosage.  After we receive this information we can better advise you.   Include drugs, doses, dates, and discontinuations & reinstatements in the last 12-24 months. Also include supplements. This will help us give you the most accurate advice we can.
  • Any drugs and supplements prior to 24 months ago can just be listed with start and stop years.
  • Please use actual dates or approximate dates (mid-June, Late October) rather than relative time frames (last week, 3 months ago)
  • Spell out months, e.g. "October" or "Oct."; 9/1/2016 can be interpreted as Jan. 9, 2016 or Sept. 1, 2016.
  • Please leave out symptoms and diagnoses.
  • A list is easier to understand than one or multiple paragraphs.

Please continue to use this thread to document your taper and to ask questions.

Hi & Congratulations @mwiley, yes we all have been betrayed & misled regarding these awful drugs! Please try not to despair, I'm currently 8 1/2 months Antidepressant free after 11 years & Benzodiazepine (Valium)  free after 7 years- I was also in Tolerance Withdrawal for 6 years in varying degrees and guess what?
