I purchased a topical cream that supposedly works on nerve pain called Topricin.

would you mind sending me the drug interaction link? I’m having trouble finding it

Here you go:

Drug Interaction Checker

I searched SA for Topricin, but I didn't find anything, so please research this carefully before using. You may want to try just a very small amount for a day or two to see if your nervous system hyper-reacts before using the recommended amount.

Out of desperation, I tried two new things last night.

Magnesium Oil Spray and the Topricin.

I think the Topricin may have helped a bit.

However, I had a horrible nights sleep. Not sure if it was a coincidence or not.

The cream did not affect anxiety or anything like that.

I briefly spoke with my doctor and he believes the pain I am experiencing is neuropathic.

Hi @Sassenach, @Shep, @BrassMonkey @Dejavu @mdwstrx or anyone 😊

I need a friend today so I thought I would see if anyone is out there.

Having a lot of problems with neck/shoulder/back and arm pain. Started back up a week ago and is not relenting. I was finally feeling better and then this hits.

Tried to get some relief by applying what I thought was a harmless topical cream and then I had one of the worst cases of insomnia ever last night. I think the cream helped with pain too which is a drag if it robs my sleep.

Anyone else have neuropathic pain from these evil drugs? Did everything finally resolve? I am petrified that I have developed some chronic pain condition that will never end.

Feeling broken especially after my physical anxiety began improving along with my mood. I’m 10 weeks in to reinstatement.

I feel like I have plummeted down.

Looking for Hope.

HF

I’m not sure if it’s a wave or something else. I feel like I’ve stepped into a completely different w/d since my symptoms are so different now. It is so weird.

If it is a wave, it’s a nasty one and long one for me. I don’t recall being in a wave with no windows for this long.

I had a few different symptoms manifest during later waves. They were worrisome but went away.

For ex.  muscle jerking (myoclonus) , trouble breathing that really really bothered me to almost a panic, sharp

pain in my thigh muscle etc.  These drugs impact so many areas of our bodies that symptoms pop up all over throughout

w/d.  All of mine eventually went away.  I hope that comforts you to some extent. 🙏

PS.. when I taper, I do get slight w/d symptoms that cause me some un-comfortableness but very bearable for the most part.

It includes neuropathy in my arms but usually in the background.  I don't notice it much.

Hold course and know that time and faith will heal you.  💜

Thank you for your positive note. It really means so much to me to have your support. Sometimes we just need to hear (again) that things will be ok. 💜

I need your advice on how to handle something at work. My manager had asked me to give a presentation to a large group of people. Honestly, I don’t feel up to it right now. For starters, giving speeches has always been my worst fear and now that I am in w/d and what seems to be a bad wave, I just feel like this is the worst possible time to be asked this.

What would be a good reason to give my boss without shooting my self in the foot?

Tough position to be in.  I admire that you've continued to work. I'm retired from a prof position and giving a presentation was my worst responsibility. I think that's common though lol.

I always think the truth works best.  You don't have to divulge all.  If it were me, I'd say I want to be honest with him/her; that  I've been going through some stressful home issues and it's just not a good time.  Clarify the stress is temporary and that it will end but for now, you need to avoid another large stressor that a presentation requires. Ask if there's anyway you can help someone else to do it. Be positive, truthful  and hold your boundary.  Your manager is entitled to an honest reason you can't perform the task but not insight into your personal life.

Hi @Shep -

Having a second night of not being able to sleep. I’m very scared I have messed up my sleep cycle. Not sure what is going on.

I had been very sleepy, almost fatigued between 5:30 - 7pm. Went in the spa to relax my muscles. Put Magnesium Oil and BioFeeeze on afterwards. Did not use the Topricin on.

Did my nightly routine. Felt very sleepy after taking Tryptophan at 9:30pm. I kept twitching and waking up though. Took Melatonin at 10pm, went to bed thinking I would fall asleep. After 20 min, I got up not tired at all. It was like the Melatonin woke me up.

Im on my couch right now unable to sleep.

Did the topical cream cause this? Could the magnesium oil be a problem? Also, I felt tired after tryptophan but once I took the melatonin, I felt awake. Paradoxical reaction going on at the same time?

Help- I’m really scared. I’ve always been able to fall asleep.

Hi @mods,

The frequent urination is back. I had this early on in w/d, too.

I don’t believe it is a UTI though.

Is there anything that can be done to relieve this a bit?

@Dejavu

I read that you used to experience frequent  urination. It is so uncomfortable!

Did you ever use the over the counter medicine called AZO? Is that safe to take without being over stimulating to our systems?

I am desperate to find some relief to this symptom.

Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi HopeFloats, are you still experiencing the pain? Have you tried acupuncture for the pain? A lot of people find relief from acupuncture for muscle pain, sleep issues, and other things. Eastern medicine has a whole other philosophy of healing and a lot of its philosophy is based on allowing the body to heal itself by promoting better blood flow, etc.

Apr 2018: Began 10 mg Amitriptyline (for headaches & insomnia from concussion).

Jul - Aug 2018: Fast taper to 5 mg and then 2.5 mg (too fast, hellish withdrawal at 2.5 mg). Sept 2018: Reinstated 10 mg (many symptoms improved). Oct 2018 - Apr 2019: Updosed & stabilized on 11 mg (2 waves at 3 and 5 months post-withdrawal). Apr 2019 - Apr 2020: Tapered 0.5-0.25 mg per month using compounded pills: 11 mg —> 6 mg. Claritin (loratadine) does not have to be tapered but Zyrtec does, or you may experience rebound itching.

I found a doctor in a round-about-way through SA.  He prescribed Lamotrigine for me to assist with my Prozac taper (I have been holding at .2 mg for close to one year after 30 years on this poison).

Unfortunately, Lamotrigine caused me to itch and also caused tinnitus. He added in Claritin which took care of the itching and believed that the T would eventually fade away.  He felt that the benefit of Lamotrigine outweighed the symptoms I was getting. So I pushed through.

After 1.5 years of dealing with the T, which is very distressing to me, I decided to try and lower the Lamotrigine to see if it helped reduce the T.

So, I began tinkering and shaving down half a pill (I take 1.5 pills = 37.5 mg)  and using a scale to weigh in grams and then convert to mg.

Initially, I went from 37.5 mg to 35.6 mg but this was too drastic a cut for me and I became hungover and had major muscle pain and tightness. I could feel my scalp muscles tightening and pulling down, too.   So I started increasing back up slowly.

It seems that the hangover and muscle pain are bearable around 36.6 mg.  The T does seem lower as well and is much easier to mask although it is still not where I want it to be.

However, now I am noticing itching again. Ugh!  Not sure if Claritin is pooping out or if this is a reaction to my tinkering with the Lamotrigine.

My doctor suggested I switch from Claritin to Zyrtec to help with the itching and said that some people need to alternate between the two.

I am not sure what to do. Tapering Lamotrigine is difficult so I can’t just come off the drug and I also need it for my Prozac taper.

Not sure if I should just hold tight and see if the itching resolves in a couple weeks?  If I switch to Zyrtec then it may poop out down the road, too. From your post above, I would not be able to just switch back to Claritin as I would have to taper first.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, I will work on updating my signature and current meds. It’s been a while.

How long have you been taking lamotrigine? Please update your signature.

What benefits have you seen from it?

Itching from lamotrigine is not acceptable. If I were you, I'd very carefully reduce lamotrigine!

See Tips for tapering off lamotrigine (Lamictal)

Please note nowhere do we suggest people start at 37.5mg lamotrigine, or even 25mg lamotrigine, the usual starting dose.

I began Lamotrigine Oct 2019 at 12.5 mg and increased from there.  Have been at 37.5 mg since Aug 2020.

Aside from the itching (which until recently was under control with the Claritin) and T, Lamotrigine has been ok for me.  It has helped ease the w/d symptoms of Prozac.  Before I started taking it, I had a lot of burning pain in my arms, neck and shoulders - it was really bad.  Within days of starting the Lamotrigine, the pain decreased and my mood improved.

Unfortunately, I made the mistake of having a glass of wine and everything was thrown back in the air.  I never caught that sweet spot again.  I have been struggling with a lot of w/d symptoms this entire time but the Lamotrigine definitely helps with the hangover sickness that I get from decreasing the Prozac.

Half a pill weighs about .040 g.  When I shaved the pill and went down to about .034 g, that proved to be too much for my system.  I am so sensitive to this drug.  I believe my body can notice the difference of .001 - .002 g.  Now I am hovering around .0372 - .0374 g. (in addition to the full tablet).

Thank you for the link.  My goal was to decrease the Lamotrigine enough to see an improvement with the T, but to stay on it until I heal from the Prozac.

The itching started back up over the last couple weeks and has been off and on and I am not sure why it came back into the picture when it had been under control for so long.  I am hoping it calms down on its own.

My doctor thinks Prozac is creating chaos with Lamotrigine and that things will improve once the Prozac is out of my system.

I updated my signature; hopefully it is ok.

Are you still taking amantadine? Why are you taking it? What about Baclofen?

Please put ALL your drugs in this Interactions Checker and post the report or a link to it in this topic.

Unlikely that fluoxetine is interacting with lamotrigine.

What times of day (o'clock) do you take your drugs, with their dosages? Is the itching better or worse at any particular times of day?

Unlikely that fluoxetine is interacting with lamotrigine. Your doctor has been ignoring your allergy to lamotrigine, a well-known adverse effect, since October 2019.

What times of day (o'clock) do you take your drugs, with their dosages? Is the itching better or worse at any particular times of day?

Yes, I still take Amantadine (10 ml)  I take the Prozac (.2 mg) and Amandatine at the same time - 6:30am.

I take Lamotrigine at 7:15am. (With my reduction I estimate that I am taking 36.6 mg)

Claritin, L-Arginine and L-Theanine at 8am.

L-Theanine again at 2pm.

Iron and Magnesium at 8pm.

Baclofen at 8:45pm (25 mg)

As we increased the Lamotrigine, it seemed to affect my sleep so he wanted to try Amantadine to see if it could offer the same support that Lamotrigine was but without affecting my sleep.

I began tapering Lamotrigine May 17th and the itching started up again like around July 17th.  I use a scale and it has proven difficult for me so I question the amount I take each day. I am so sensitive to such a small decrease (.001 g) that I may have increased it too high and maybe that is why the itching came back.

I am going to try lowering the Lamotrigine a tad to see if that helps.

I am not finding a pattern with the itching. It seems to be all day long (aside from when I’m sleeping).

I want to get the itching under control because I need to get the vaccine and am scared that it will be exacerbated by it - actually I’m scared all my symptoms will be exacerbated by it.

The itching may be because you are allergic to lamotrigine, and you are still taking lamotrigine. The Claritin has stopped controlling the allergic reaction because you have become tolerant to Claritin.

You may wish to get the lamotrigine compounded into a liquid by prescription so you can titrate it accurately. If I were you, I'd make it a priority to reduce the lamotrigine.

I've responded to your question in the "How to Make a Liquid" topic.  I will quote it below for you:

0.2mg x 0.97 = 0.195mg  CORRECT

1st mixture calculations are CORRECT

If you are making a dilution where 1mL = 0.005mg then you do not have to make the second mixture.

Divide 0.195mg by 0.005mg = 39

(this is to find out what number you need to multiple both sides by, below)

So:

1mL : 0.005mg

Multiply both sides by 39:

39mL : 0.195mg

So you will take 39mL of the mixture.

Please double check my calculations.

This is so similar to my experience.

Been taking 20mg Prozac for 20 years. All hell broke loose 4-6 months in. I reinstated after 6 months off. Doctor advised me to start taking 20mg Prozac again. Been 4 days so far. Feel so much better already.

I didn’t know about the ‘slow reinstatement’. But anyway so far so good.

Started 20mg Prozac - 2003.

Started 20mg Suboxone - circa 2005.

Suboxone reduction -

Took less and less approximately each week until I got down to 0.25 started reduction circa March 2021. Then took last dose March 2022.

Prozac reduction -

Took one every other day for 2 months December 2021 - Feb 2022

Then one every three days for 3 months - Feb 2022 - May 2022

Last dose May 2022.

First 4 months. Fine. No problems. Then bang. From month 4 to now constant rumination, worrying and anxiety.

Currently taking DLPA 500mg. Magnesium Citrate 400mg and Fish Oil 1000mg

Hi there,

One symptom I have been dealing with is burning pain in my neck, shoulders and back - sometimes arms. This started intermittently while I was taking Prozac, long before I began my rapid taper.  But it came back with a vengeance during withdrawals.

Another symptom that developed after reinstatement/withdrawals was torturous bladder problems (burning, urgency, feeling the need to go 24/7).

I had heard that baking soda can help calm the bladder down and it seemed like a safe risk to take some. During one of my bladder flares I took 1/4 tsp. of baking soda mixed with 8 oz. of water.

Within about two hours of taking this my right leg began to burn pretty badly.  Although I had burning pain before, I had never had it in my legs. It has never stopped. Thankfully, it’s not always severe pain but it’s always there.

Is there any explanation as to why I would have such a bad reaction to taking baking soda one time?

Thank you,

Hope Floats
