I want to know how to get off of this medication because I Dont like how it's making me feel it makes me feel so numb so I want out but I don't know how to. I've had this medication for 1/2 a month and I took it off and on during this time and now I'm worried that I might've ruin my nervous system from taking it at different times of the night .I don't know what to do My dad said just stop taking it but I know that's not safe at all I had went through withdrawal symptoms like around 3 days when I didn't take them which shows me to take it slow I guess I didn't take them again today but yesterday i did I only have 17 pills left I don't know what to do I'm really lost at this moment any advice would be nice thanks

Did your doctor prescribe this medication?

What condition were they prescibed for?

Is there any reason why you could not get a repeat prescription if necessary?

You should continue taking them at the moment.

Does your dad understand this?

If not, show him these:

Welcome, Cloud.

If you've been taking mirtazapine inconsistently for two weeks, you might have shaken your nervous system up a bit.

Does taking one tablet help you sleep? Do you have a hangover the next day?

If I were you, I'd cut the mirtazapine tablet in half and take that for 5 days; be sure to take it at the same time each day, do not skip doses.

See how you feel. Let us know how you're doing.

You may wish to think twice before you ask for a psychiatric drug. Here are non-drug ways to improve your sleep:

Tips to help sleep -- so many of us have that awful withdrawal insomnia

Path to Better Sleep FREE online for everyone from the US Veterans Administration

Music for self-care: Calms hyperalertness, anxiety, aids relaxation and sleep

What is the sleep cycle?

Melatonin for sleep: Many people find it helpful

TV or computer use in evening can disrupt sleep: Bright light signals the brain that it's daytime

And:

Non-drug techniques to cope with emotional symptoms

Easing your way into meditation for a stressed-out nervous system

Health anxiety, hypochondria, and obsession with symptoms

Ways to cope with daily anxiety

Dealing With Emotional Spirals

If you are having problems with your family or other relationships, strongly recommend you find counseling or psychotherapy before taking drugs. It's not a good idea to get dependent on psychiatric drugs when you're so young -- they change your body. Sexual dysfunction is very common.

Hi Cloud.

Alto is the founder of this site and extemely knowledgeable on withdrawal.

Can you please confirm your pills are 15mgs?

You should begin cutting your pills in half as soon as possible.

This bit is very important

16 hours ago, Altostrata said:

This will help your nervous system level out.

Please let us know how you are feeling.

It is important to note that this will take a little while and you will continue to experience symptoms during this time.

The symptoms do not mean the regime is not working but that it is a slow process.

You are young and should make a full recovery.

Good luck.

Hi Cloud.

You are being very sensible.

The advice is totally wrong if you want off these drugs.

The fact you are feeling better today shows what you are doing is working.

I will not pretend you will suddenly be back to your old self as soon as get off the drug.

It may take while but you will get well again.

If you go up to 15mgs you will get addicted to this drug.

It is your choice but it is not the first time this Facebook group have given incorrect advice.

Cloud, I've been involved in the psych drug tapering world for about 10 years. In the past I volunteered on various Internet help boards, and although I don't do that any more, I do still have a pretty good idea of what kind of resources are out there. When it comes to psych med reduction, tapering and withdrawal, you won't find anyone more knowledgeable and experienced than Altostrata anywhere on Facebook or anywhere else on the Internet. There are maybe a small handful of physicians in the US who know as much as she does about the subject. Please follow her advice.

You are in a pretty good situation that you should be able to ease out of with some temporary suffering but nothing long term.

I used to call that music the "withdrawal jukebox". 🙂

Your age and your very short time on this drug are big assets on your side. You will probably be just fine, although you may have some bumpy times for a few months. Please follow Alto's instructions. She's the real deal.

Started on Prozac and Xanax in 1992 for PTSD after an assault. One drug led to more, the usual story. Got sicker and sicker, but believed I needed the drugs for my "underlying disease". Long story...lost everything. Life savings, home, physical and mental health, relationships, friendships, ability to work, everything. Amitryptiline, Prozac, bupropion, buspirone, flurazepam, diazepam, alprazolam, Paxil, citalopram, lamotrigine, gabapentin...probably more I've forgotten.

Started multidrug taper in Feb 2010.  Doing a very slow microtaper, down to low doses now and feeling SO much better, getting my old personality and my brain back! Able to work full time, have a full social life, and cope with stress better than ever. Not perfect, but much better. After 23 lost years. Big Pharma has a lot to answer for. And "medicine for profit" is just not a great idea.

Feb 15 2010:  300 mg Neurontin  200 Lamictal   10 Celexa      0.65 Xanax   and 5 mg Ambien

Feb 10 2014:   62 Lamictal    1.1 Celexa         0.135 Xanax    1.8 Valium

Feb 10 2015:   50 Lamictal      0.875 Celexa    0.11 Xanax      1.5 Valium

Feb 15 2016:   47.5 Lamictal   0.75 Celexa      0.0875 Xanax    1.42 Valium

Oct 2022       4.5 mg Lamictal    (off Celexa, off Xanax)   0.95 Valium    Ambien, 1/4 to 1/2 of a 5 mg tablet

Hello Cloudskishawna

You have found the perfect group and the perfect people for the advice. All the people here have first hand experience on these drugs and almost all of them are to be admired for the patience they have in going off these terrible meds. I am a short term user as you but i took two years to taper this med. The problem is that the doctors as long as you do not feel good will test on you different courses of meds getting your nervous system really unstable. The nervous system is not like like your feet or hand, you get hurt there, some blood comes out and you apply some ointment and then after 1-2 days you are healed. The nervous system is too complex so in order to heal itself will take all the time it needs. In this direction please try not to use any other meds that the doctor might suggest. Keep following the advice of Altostrada and i believe you will soon be off. You have been used the Mirt for a very short period of time and you are young which means your nervous system can recuperate more easily than most of the people in here.

Even if you feel symptoms when you go lower with the dose do not worry. They are temporary and will surely go away. I had a terrible time with these meds but now for almost one and a half year I am completely normal my friend.

All the best

Santino

2015 -  2016 Xanax only rescue doses of 0.125 mg 1-2 times per month

hang in there sweetheart
