erinbeth13: From Celexa (citalopram) to Wellbutrin (bupropion)

Hi everyone,

Brand new here. I recently tapered myself off Celexa 40 over the course of a month, with the goal of starting Wellbutrin.  I realize now that I found this forum that I probably did this too fast (Went from 40 to 20 for 2 weeks with no ill effects, then 20-10 for 2 weeks, then 10mgs with 150mg of the Wellbutrin for a week until I stopped the Celexa completely last Friday.  Withdrawal has been...weird, I'm shaky and foggy and sleep is terrible.  Has anyone else switched from Celexa to Wellbutrin?  I've been on an SSRI for so long, the weight gain is a huge factor to why I'm switching. Any input is welcome!

Thank you!

Welcome to SA, erinbeth13.

Very likely your symptoms are due to withdrawal from Celexa caused by a too fast taper.   Insomnia is a very common withdrawal symptom; it is also one of the side effects of Wellbutrin.

What is withdrawal syndrome.

Glenmullen’s withdrawal symptom list.

You will heal from the withdrawal. Unfortunately, we can't predict how long it will take.

We don't recommend a lot of supplements on SA, as many members report being sensitive to them due to our over-reactive nervous systems, but two supplements that we do recommend are magnesium and omega 3 (fish oil). Many people find these to be calming to the nervous system.

Magnesium, nature's calcium channel blocker

Omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil

Add in one at a time and at a low dose in case you do experience problems.

Some members have found Melatonin helpful with insomnia.

Melatonin for sleep

It's best to start at a very low dosage, such as .25mg, and gradually increase if needed to the lowest effective dose.

This is your Introduction topic, where you can ask questions and connect with other members.  Again, welcome.
