Hi,

My name is Lynn. I am cross tapering from Fluvoxamine to sertraline. I am on 50mgs of sertraline, and on 25mgs of fluvoxamine. I went down to 0 fluvoxamine on Dec 14; by the 16th I was having bad withdrawal and reinstated up to 19.5 was this okay to do. How shall I proceed with reductions.

Welcome, @will351

I moved your post here to start your own Introductions topic, where you can ask questions about your particular situation and report your progress.

When did you start sertraline? Are you switching from Luvox to sertraline? If so, did you talk to your doctor about your withdrawal symptoms?

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.

When did you reinstate 12.5mg Luvox? What effect did it have? What time of day do you take it?

Was your intention to switch to sertraline and continue on an antidepressant?

Hi, I have been on 12.5 for 5 days down from 25mgs. I take it in the morning along with 50 sertraline. I want to stay on sertraline for severe anxiety. Have been getting headaches,  occasional stomach cramps, skin tingling, and chills since going down on luvox. Are these typical reducing side effects.

Hi Gridley,

I was on Luvox for 7 months and did a slow withdraw since late September. I cross tapered to 50 sertraline.in late September. I stopped Luvox six days ago at 12.5. I do not want to reinstate because of drug interactions with blood pressure meds. I have been having symptoms like jitteriness., tingling, stomach cramping, sweating when I wake up and some diarrhea. Yes, even though you did a cross-taper, it's not going to be a perfect substitute because the sertraline isn't necessarily going to affect you the same way the luvox did.  That means there may be some "holes" that the sertraline isn't covering, resulting in withdrawal symptoms.

Another possibility is that these are side effects from the sertraline or that the symptoms are "settling-in" symptoms that will fade as you get used to the new drug.

When did the symptoms start?

It's likely withdrawal for the reasons I gave in my previous post.  I'm hoping that as you settle into the sertraline, the symptoms will fade.

To help us out, follow these instructions Please put your drug and withdrawal history in your signature You may need to use a computer to do this.

Will, we really need you to fill out a signature so we know what your drug history is. It seems you are making a lot of changes with an antidepressant crossover and now having added in an antipsychotic (Rexulti) for a couple of weeks. Please note we don't recommend adding in new drugs to fix withdrawal. We recommend a slow taper of 10% or less of the prior month's dose. (See - Why taper by 10% of my dosage?).  A slow taper is the best way to lessen withdrawal symptoms.

Please read the link I quoted from Altostrata about setting up a signature.

Lynn,

Yes, it indeed did.  In fact, I feel better now (as far as depression goes) with less of it in my system.  However, all this withdrawal stuff is no cakewalk.

I delved into research and books about the efficacy of ADs.  I do think the zoloft pooped out for me, and I’m now questioning almost everything regarding psychiatry.

Yes, I do have significant anxiety now.  I’m learning a lot of coping techniques which will hopefully continue to help me reign it in.

I’ve been medicated for 20 or so years, so this is a huge adjustment.  I want to taper on the zoloft but need to wait for a bit more stability.

You mentioned you had been on it for 23

@will351,

Okay, Lynn, the drug signature is different from posting notes in the intro thread.  What you have to do is go to your profile, go into your settings, then go into account settings and there’s a link that says “edit profile.”

See how after Gridley or Shep post a message there’s different colored type at the bottom of their message?  That’s what they need from you, to post that detailed account of your med changes in a signature that appears after every one of your posts.

I know you’ve already put it in your intro thread, but it has to be in your signature so they can glance at it every time you post.  Does that make any sense or am I just adding to confusion?

Will, please stop tapering the Klonopin. You've been tapering more than one drug at once, which is not a good idea. We recommend staying on the benzo throughout your antidepressant taper. Please see:

@will351 please put all questions about your situation in this topic.

See our responses to your earlier questions above.

What exactly are you taking now, at what times of day and dosages? Did you feel better or worse when you were taking Rexulti?

If I were you, I'd stop changing your drugs for the time being. Was it your intention to switch from Luvox to sertraline to continue to take the sertraline? Have you been discussing your adverse effects with your doctor? What is your doctor telling you?

Please include Rexulti and your current Klonopin in your signature.

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.

Hi will351,

Okay, go back to your signature here:  Account Setting: Signature  And just add in the dates, and doses, with your recent Rexulti usage.  Year, month and days used.   Maybe you can squeeze it in, near your PRESENT meds., as you only get 12 lines.  Then hit Save, so you don't lose the edit update.

Oh.....never mind will, I see you got the Rexulti in.  Good job!

Then:

Take a look at this link:  Keep daily notes of drug schedule and symptoms to track patterns and progress

And I copied over a sample daily note, below.

- Time and dosage for all drugs taken throughout the day, psychiatric and non-psychiatric.

- Following each dose, note any symptoms. If you are having a reaction to the drug, it may take hours for a symptom to show up -- that's why we ask you to keep notes all day long.

- If you're not taking any drugs, your symptoms throughout the day.

- Your sleep pattern. Since so many drugs disturb sleep, if you find you're waking in the middle of the night, it could be from a drug you took earlier in the evening. If you're not taking any drugs, there may be ways you can improve your sleep.

And so forth. A diary, in chronological order, looking something like this:

6 a.m. Woke with anxiety
8 a.m. Took 2.5mg Lexapro
10 a.m. Stomach is upset
10:30 a.m. Ate breakfast
11:35 a.m. Got a headache, lasted one hour
12:35 p.m. Ate lunch
4 p.m. Feel a bit better
5 p.m. Took 2.5mg Lexapro
6 p.m. Ate dinner
9:20 p.m. Headache
10:00 p.m. Took 50mg Seroquel
10:20 p.m. Feeling dizzy
10:30 p.m. Fell asleep
2:30 a.m. Woke, took 3mg Ambien (NOT "took 1/2 tablet Ambien")
2:45 a.m. Fell asleep
4:30 a.m. Woke but got back to sleep

Do a day, to the best of your ability, as soon as you can, and then post it, right here on your introduction page.  It can really help us and may help you as well, to begin to sort and organize what is going on with your med(s), all of them.   And then how WD ties into it all.   It's never great to be jumping around with medication/drug changes too quickly.  This gives us some really useful information in answering your questions and trying to guide your next choices/decisions.

Hope this helps.

L, P, H, and G,

mmt

Thank you for adding your blood pressure drugs in your signature. Please also add the date you reinstated Luvox at 6 mg.

Create Your Signature in "Account Settings"

It takes about 4 days for your nervous system to register a change and a week or longer for your brain/body to get used to the reinstatement, so you may have upticks in symptoms at first. Hopefully the reinstatement will help and you'll start feeling some relief.

9:50pm   Read in bed took 6mgs of melatonin

Please note that 6 mg of melatonin is a high dose. Please see this thread:

Melatonin for sleep

If you're waking up during the night, you may want to try reducing the melatonin because it can cause paradoxical reactions, meaning it wakes you up.

I also noticed that you're taking vitamin D at night. Some people find this to be a stimulating vitamin that can increase insomnia, so please be careful with this. It may be best taken in the morning.

Please note there are quite a few "moderate" drug interactions. Please see:

Drug interactions - sertraline, Klonopin, lisinopril, amlodipine, Luvox, Lipitor

Great job on the drug and symptoms. Please keep posting this daily.

How is your sleep? Please add in the number of hours you sleep each night.

Yes, shakiness is a withdrawal effect of psychiatric drugs. Please see:

Tremors, shaking, body vibration, internal trembling

Not only these changes, I'm also going to add this part from your signature - Rexalti .25 mg 1/2/20-1/17/20.

So you've had a lot of drug changes in the past month. This likely has rattled your nervous system and may take a few weeks or even months to settle down. Hopefully the Luvox reinstatement will help.

How many hours are you sleeping at night?
