Magnesium

I did try magnesium, both citrate and bisglycinate and I forget why I stopped. I think I found even 25 mg Caused a reaction. Now that my stomach has settled a bit I might try to dissolve one of them in a big glass of water and sip some, like in the link. Like Altostrata did. The sun is shining here hope it is there too. Again thankyou For your time. I don’t know what I’d do without this site.

Thank you so much. I have some reading ahead of me but feeling like there is hope. Feels good to be able to talk to someone that doesn’t say oh just go home and stop taking it.

.eating healthier anxiety, agitated, nausea, weak, dizzy into my 4 th week of tapering pregabolin, feel awful thru the day and better after 9 pm

Hi Pens,

you are about 1 week after your last cut - at that point in time my WD symptoms are at their worst.
Dreadful mornings, upset stomach ... I have an idea how you feel right now.

I am down to about 1.5 mg Mirt/day now and I forgot one single dose some 10 days ago.

A couple of days later my emotions went down plus all the other mirt WD symptoms I know. Just because I missed 1.5 mg once. So I think I am in a dose range where I have to be extra careful with my cuts and maybe you should be extra careful, too.

So just my interpretation: Your are still suffering from your cut from 7.5 to 1.8 mg, the additional reduction now may have made things worse.

I know the urge to get rid of all that stuff asap but shortcuts do not work ... that's the lesson I learned the hard way. My symptoms are more manageable now as I stick to my brassmonkey slide - cuts of maybe 2% every week or even a bit less frequent.

Can you try to stay awake a bit longer? For me, waking up early and not being able to get back to sleep was worse than trying to stay up. And as you mentioned already, your situation is better in the evening anyway. (Exactly the same for me, I am feeling fine now as it is around 10pm - most likely I will feel much worse tomorrow at 6am).

I hope you will get better soon!

Dear Hamster, thankyou for some great advise. It’s good to know someone who is travelling the same road, then you know what to expect. The big jump I made definitely has not helped. I’m having trouble with histamine reactions and that’s probably why I’m  tapering more now. I have a chart of high histamine foods to avoid to keep my histamine level low. I’m going to get a syringe that measures smaller amounts of liquid.Your description sounds a lot like what I’m experiencing and I’d like to follow your post, if that’s ok? Wishing you well. Thanks for your reply. Have a good day

Hi Pens,

the data says that Mirt has strong antihistaminic properties. So in theory you should have less issues with allergies when taking mirt, not more.

For me, that's definitely true, all my issues with hay fever are gone since I'm taking Mirt. (In exchange for my WD symptoms I'd be more than happy to get my hay fever back!). And from what I know from other posts here is that people withdrawing from Mirt become hypersensitive to histamine.

No idea why you experience it the other way around ... but I'd watch carefully your symptoms regarding histamine. Not that you do a fast taper (with all the bad side effects) to get rid of a suspected intolerance to Mirt ... and in the end the intolerance to whatever substance gets even worse.

And now let's go on moving on the same road ... I hope your symptoms will ease on the way. Mine did, but it's a bumpy road as we all know here.

Hi Pens,

I thought I would line up a couple days to see if anything stands out.

On the 3rd, I see "itchy" was later, not in the morning like the other 2 days and possibly due to Omega 3's.  That's a mini dose of Omega 3's.  Did you possibly take a combination or mix, that contained the 100 mg of Omega 3?  Just as a note of caution here, and good practice for anyone in WD.......is to stick with single ingredient supplements.

And then, with your Flovent 125 mcg, yesterday.  Do use drugs.com to get familiar with your drugs.  It seems odd that it did relieve your breathing, as you haven't been on it, on a regular basis.  As you may be aware of now.....it is not a rescue medication for Asthma or COPD symptoms and it is an inhaled corticosteroid.

More general is here: https://www.drugs.com/flovent.html

And buggers!  Still just the 4 hours sleep.  Do try for some restful periods early in the day.  How is your weight holding up?

And doing okay here, I think you had asked. B) Thank you.  Blizzards and cold temperatures.......you know, normal February, although we had some unseasonably warm days too.  I am keeping busy and for the most part, out of my late wave.......so that is a Yay!!!!!  It's a very good life I lead now.  Pretty content.  I need to check on road conditions for travel today......as it's snowing again now........oh no, oh no.......the sky is falling   I do a little time with my "happy lite" when the series of sunless days hit too!  It helps.  Yesterday very sunny, yet cold......managed to get a great walk in though.

Good job Pens.  And sleep......sleep........I hope more is coming soon.  I know when I finally got to 5 hour stretches of sleep and then was able to go back to bed for more.......everything else seemed better, all of my early WD symptoms.

Morning manymoretodays, no just the omega. very sensitive to everything at this point

saw the doctor on Tuesday and told him I vas having a reaction to the salbutamol and if there was a substitute. He mentioned that even though the Flovent wasn’t a rescue inhaler it was a preventative and good for phlegm congestion etc. It has been helping me breath better. Sleep for the last few days is a ?, I think I wake up but don’t want to be bothered checking the time for fear that I might become fully awake and not be able to get back to sleep. As for rest I have become a couch potato. I’ve lost some more weight. Been watching that I don’t eat too many high histamine foods but I think I may have become too restrictive with my diet. My stomach is still sensitive though, guess that’s one of the withdrawals. Dug through my craft box yesterday and found some unfinished projects that I can work on. Hope you can get out for some more nice walks! Have a good day.
🙏🏻💐

It is, in my case it peaked around week 2 after each (major) cut. Worst in the morning, becoming better during the day.

Hi, I’ve read where mirtazapine can cause heartburn. My doctor prescribed pantoprazole and this is my second day taking it. The only thing that’s making me feel better is maybe I can breath a bit better otherwise my indigestion or heartburn has gotten worse and I don’t feel well. I think I just may quit taking it the resort back to my inhalers. Didn’t realize the mirtazapine could be the cause of my heartburn. Has anyone else experienced this.

Hiya Pens,

I was just thinking about you.

And okay here's what Drugs.com has about your latest drug:  Pantoprazole, Uses, dosage, and side effects

And then our topic on:  Tips for tapering off this type of drug, and more about PPI's

And yes, if it is making you feel worse then just quit is okay after just 2 days.  The pantoprazole I mean.  Not the mirtazapine.

Did you experience heartburn on the mirtazapine before the past few days to week?

I don't want you to CT off the mirtazapine now.....not after all the hard work you've done to date.  Just saying.  Not sure what you are referring to.

Have you had any luck with eating smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day?  For the nauseau and heartburn?  I did not notice any food intake prior to your noting nauseau.  And I too, will certainly experience nauseau, if I have gone too long between feeds/eating.  High protein, low fat, complex rather than simple carbs work best for me, as far as doing smaller more frequent eating.  And then I usually do have one larger meal every day.  Be sure and eat larger portions well before you are going to try to sleep, not late at night.

I had heartburn/GER for awhile when drugged.  Also when close to delivery, many moons ago.  It has resolved and is rare, unless I drink too much caffiene, which sometimes I slip a bit, and do.  Then it resolves again.

Or propping yourself up a bit when you are trying to rest or sleep?  Sometimes that will help with the acid reflux too.

And ooh, maybe you slept better??!!!!  That would be grand!

Oh......did you take the 1.6mg of mirtazapine last night???  I'm not seeing it above.  Maybe an oversight?

Yes, I think I’ve had it for a while but it feels like it’s intensified in the last few weeks. I’ve tried to come up with a list of foods that I can tolerate and are low histamine at the same time. I always catch myself tensing up and tightening my stomach. My hands and feet are always cold too.I read on GiaKs post , about digestive problems that antacids may be more harm than good, because I may not have enough acid in my stomach to digest food properly. My food list is pretty much down to the basics, not as bad as the gap diet, but I have noticed a little relief. I’ve read where antidepressants can contribute to GERD and I’m sure stress doesn’t help it either. I have an appointment in two weeks with a naturalpath to see if I can come up with some sort of diet plan to heal my stomach. If anything this has taught me to eat better and not take my health for granted and oh yes, try to look on the brighter side. I can tell you though, I look forward to being able to come off the mirtazapine. Yes, the smaller more frequent meals are helping, with small bites because it’s hard to swallow.

I have been doing this and it does help, unfortunately the Pantoprozole that I took the last couple of days really helped with my breathing. I didn’t have nice side effects from it though. Very dizzy, panicky, lightheaded, sore stomach.  I’m not going to continue with them. Guess now it’s just down to what and how I eat. Wouldn’t have brought up the stomach issues but it all seems interconnected, especially after reading GiaKs post. Maybe someone else can relate. And yes I have been taking 1.6 ml. Mirtazapine. Sorry for the oversight. I really don’t know how you managed even with having a family, I’ve just retired and find I’m recovering on the couch most mornings. The not knowing is the most difficult that’s why this site and people like you are so important. Thanks for your time and patience. Have a nice weekend 💐

I'm glad you found Giak's post(s) helpful.  It can be more difficult to find ones way to the Beyondmeds: Everything Matters, collections, and blogs now.......but oh my, that site really helped me so much.

Sharing this post with you, if you were referring to some of the Beyondmeds stuff:  https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/topic/21953-beyondmedscom/?do=findComment&comment=464773

There are a lot of helpful posts from GiaK, right here, on surviving too.  Good stuff.

And okay, Pens, sounds good.  Hoping you hear from some of the other mirtazapine users and taperers too!

That's interesting that the Pantoprazole helped with your breathing.  Indirectly, I suppose......your reflux must have triggered some of your breathing difficulties.  And hopefully you can find something that helps, without side effects.  Maybe the naturopath will be helpful with certain food suggests.  I hope so.  Fingers crossed.

Yes,  you have a nice weekend too!  It's been a great adventure in weather for me the past week!  Changing patterns and all.  Really cold, blizzards, and then to somewhat warmer.....  One just never can predict around here.  Thankful for my kind neighborly kids and adults who seem to shovel and snow blow before I even get a chance to(which is fine, truly).  And I don't know......we manage, as best we all can, through the more acute phases.  I found support people who didn't even know why they were supporting me, or helping me.  You know......it's hard to explain the whole WD concept to many out there.  You are getting there Pens, you are!!!

@Hamster, morning just wanted to ask what did you do for the nausea?

Pens,

not too much, as it was bearable for me most of the days and became better in the evenings. I also knew it was WD-related so I knew what to expect and that it would not last for ever.

In some bad cases I took some bentonite clay / montmorillonite powder (maybe 2 teaspoons twice per day). I would not take it together with the meds (i.e. at the same time) to avoid interactions.

Hi Pens,

Oh no......what kind of surgery, if you don't mind saying?

And it looks like the 2 do have moderate interactions:  https://www.drugs.com/interactions-check.php?drug_list=1488-899,1640-0

Drugs.com is a great source for checking on medications, and interactions as well.

Will you be monitored by medical personal once you get the Ativan?

And be accompanied by someone, as well........a driver at least?

Did you let them(the surgeon, anesthesiologist, or nurse) know that you are on mirtazapine?  That's important to do. Discuss this with them.  Let them know you may have some autonomic instability as well.

I had my first preventative screen, colonoscopy done 7 years ago and called and talked to the anesthetist about the drugs I was on.  Then felt reassured when I got there for the procedure.  I got propofol, and did fine really.  I was out for the entire procedure.  Was observed.  Woke up and was fine.  Went to breakfast and then home.

And we do have a topic here:  Surgery and Anesthesia

Good though, that your mirtazapine dose is at 8:30 pm, and will be separated from the Ativan dose by almost 12 hours.

It may not set you too far back, I don't know Pens.  I think most definitely you might expect a few bumps while you recover from the surgery.

And I sure would not taper any further, until you are healed up as well.

Look at the links, do your research, talk with them, and then use your best judgement, and I think you will be fine.

Yes and yes. Since I’m sensitive should I ask for a low dose of Ativan? I.e. .05 mg.

I have an appointment in a couple of weeks with a naturalpath who specializes in stomachs. Since mine has been giving me grief I thought I would find out if there’s anything I could do. I’ve read where antidepressants can cause stomach issues i.e. acid reflex but if he recommends supplements I don’t know what to do because I know we’ve been advised to try to not take them. I don’t know if I should just try to wait it out and let my stomach heal. Right now I’ve been taking Gaviscon if it bothers me. Any thoughts on this. Hope everyone’s day is going well ❤️

@manymoretodays hi, I don’t like bothering you. My stomach is very tender and I’m losing weight. I’m trying to stick to low histamine diet and I take tums or gaviscon only if I have to. I’m dizzy ,weak and wondered would it partially be because I’m taking mirtazapine in liquid form and not the powder form. Would the liquid be more harsh?
