Hi Pens,

Hi manymoretodays had to take Benadryl today, rash on face , sometimes shortness of breath, so yes I will be anxious to do a taper.

I'm just looking back through your notes now.

And I know....it might be time to do another small one?  There is always the possibility that some of your allergic stuff IS related to the mirtazapine.  And then, if so, good to keep going with the taper.

Only a couple weeks since your surgery though?  When was the date of the cataract surgery?  I like waiting until at least, 6 weeks post surgeries/procedures for most members, before resuming the taper.

And I wish some of your morning dizziness would let up too?

It's hard knowing too, Pens, right now, what is causing what.......as I'm sure you are aware, as you have had a few recent additions of drugs too.

So do share your thoughts too.

So:

Last taper was January 20th.

And I'm playing with the math, if you next want to do a taper down to 1.5 mL, which is equivalent to 1.5 mg, that would be about a 6% reduction.

If you can measure clearly, just a bit more than that, say 1.52 mL, that would be a 5% reduction, and might be good, more of a microtaper.

And even more of a microtaper, a  2.5 % reduction from 1.6 mg/ 1.6 mL would be  1.56 mg/1.56 mL.

I think you/we were considering more of a microtaper.

I'm feeling okay about having you try 1.52 mL or 1.52 mg, a 5 % taper, and if that goes well, you could do another 5%, in a couple more weeks.......for a total taper of 10% over a months time......but broken down into smaller increments.

How do you feel about this kind of plan?

And are you done with your eye gtts yet?

I'm a bit unexpectedly in and out more this week, I should be able to check your reply tomorrow evening(my time) though.

Hi, is there an info on detoxing, not just from drugs but I noticed while trying to taper from mirtazapine I’ve become sensitive to all lot of foods, ie dairy, breads, sugar, so I’ve been trying to eat healthier. For a long time I’ve eaten junk food. instead of feeling better I feel nauseous, no energy, confused, sensitive stomach, difficulty sleeping etc. Another member on SA said moving is good to help get toxins out of your body, Epson salts bath, hot showers. Is anyone else experiencing detox and can you.add anything to this. Thanks

I Found Carbs and sugars  hazardous during WD because they were just a spike of more stimulant towards my brain already out of control.

Rye bread was the only carb that was ok for Me.

If I had to digest any carbs between 3 and 8pm, I was prone to getting extremely sleepy and falling into a sleep paralysis while still conscious.  Super scary.

Still conscious of what was going on around Me but couldn't move.

We don't subscribe to any "detoxing" from the drugs.

Might help to look at Rhiannon's description of the neurobiology of WD, and then the brains readaptation.

https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/topic/603-what-is-withdrawal-syndrome/?do=findComment&comment=88441

I copied the last line: Now you can explain to them that no, getting it out of your system is not the issue; the issue is, you need to regrow or at least remodel your brain. This is a long, slow, very poorly understood process, and it needs to be respected.

And then here is a bit from GiaK:  Detox stuff-advanced

GiaK is a member who came off many drugs.

And again a copy of something she noted in the first post:  This is mostly stuff I couldn't engage with for many years when I was gravely sensitive. I remain highly sensitive but more in the range of less injured highly sensitive folks.

Are you doing food journals, Pens?  That might help identify what to avoid.  That's good, no more junk food.  It's good to get whole foods in as much as possible.

.......and I'm fairly certain, that having food sensitivites,  is not something that needs detoxing.

Identifying and then avoiding things you are sensitive to, sure makes sense.

And okay good, on agreement on 1.52 mg or 1.52 mL for the next taper.

How did it go with the eye surgeon?

Great news pens,

As u should be aware now, we are sensitive to any material and any drug.

Very happy you felt relief after stopping eye drug.

Good night dear ❤️.

i wasn't on a certain drug all the period. i took many drugs many times and for no very long period but to simplify.

--fluvoxamine maleate100 mg + amisulpride 200mg------started july 2012 and total taper in february 2015 ( 9 months without drugs then)

--sertraline 100mg -------started november 2015 and total taper (withoud reduction slowly) in november 2016( 4 months withoud drugs then).

--sertraline 100mg + quetiabine 25mg ( started in mars 2016 and for 7 months) then fluvoxamine maleate 100mg again for another 7months and after that a something like to use every drug for 14 days and for about 1.5 years.

--my last drug was trintellix 10 mg ( used it in 12/2018and total taper in 4/2019).

symptomts i have now ( bad concentration and problems in short and long memory+ bad depersonalization).

Does the stomach sensitivity become less severe after a while.  It’s becomes hard to look forward to eating when you always end up feeling nauseous. Using ginger pills to help.

Luckily I was good with dairy, so I would have eggs over easy or an omlette with maybe one slice of cheese...

I'm also lucky that I can eat nuts, so unsalted peanuts, almonds, almonds are good for keeping your MAGNESIUM up...

I could tolerate HALF a banana, also good for the Mag levels...

It was also an issue of not giving my stomach too much to digest at one time, but if I had a good size meal at noon...

Than I could supplement between 2 or 3 and 8-9 pm with small snacks,

and then by 9 pm, I could eat ANYTHING I wanted ago...

Very strange, right?

But if You think about it, the "afternoon lull" is EVERYONE'S worst brain functioning time of the day, so it makes sense my reactions happened during those hours...

Come 10 pm?  I could eat 4 pieces of pizza no problem.  🙂

So I got used to finding a few items I KNEW I Could handle and sticking with them for the first few months when symptoms were the worst...

I was ok with sugar and carbs in the morning, I would have Greek yogurt with NO SUGAR ADDED, just the normal occurring sugar...

Lunch I'd have either a grilled cheese on rye or, and this is good, I would toast the rye, then put some peanut butter on it, with a LITTLE jelly, for a sandwich...

The peanut butter would kinda melt, 🙂

If I used half the amount of preserves as I normally would I was ok.. and eventually your taste buds, over time, acclimate to it, and it tastes the same to  You.

The trick for Me, was to re schedule my eating pattern, I was normally someone who didn't eat breakfast or lunch UNTIL 2 pm, so...

Once I got 50% of my calories AND protein in me by noonish-1pm... I was able to hold out to later in the night on just the small snacks, like string cheese,.

Eventually I could add small amounts of fruit in, HALF a fruit.. Banana, apple, pears, etc.. the HALF was the difference.

Each of us have a "tolerance" level as to how much sugar and carbs we can "rush" into our brain all at once, it's different for each of us...

I would stagger the snacks every 2 hours, like half a banana and 1 handful of peanuts, and it was enough to keep me from being hungry, but not alot to TAX your digestive system.  I noticed when I had to digest too much all at once, that's when I fell into the neurological sleep paralysis episodes...

Oh my gosh, thankyou for the info. I found when I started WD that my stomach became very sensitive so I had to adjust to portion size and what didn’t sit well on my stomach. You sound like you have got it figured out. I also can eat a lot after ten p.m. but don’t dare because it interferes with my sleep.  Thankyou for taking the time to post this. I hope you are doing well! Have a wonderful day. 💐

We all seem to fall into similar patterns.  It's kinda cool actually, because You can read a thread, comment on what happened to You...

And the other person Is like:  "Oh, yeah, I had that"!  Or:  Oh yeah, I can do that only then too"!

Maybe try eating some protein after 10pm.

Maybe if it's not carbs or sugar rushing into your system it might not be as stimulating and the extra "work" Your body has to expend to digest will let You sleep.

Just look out with the prednisone, thats a powerful drug and many people cant handle it.  If you start feeling strange in a way not normal to Your WD...

It may be that...

Your very welcome and have a great day! ❤️🥰❤️

Sorry, I forgot to add, that this can also be from adding too many DIFFERENT types of food into Your stomach at once.

Different foods require competing enzymes to digest them, like You should not eat meat at the same time with fruit and carbs.

So, if Your eating meat and potatoes, in the weakened state, Your body is trying to compensate for to many different processes that have to go on at once.

It's not just portion size, it's allowing Your body to only have to digest ONE type of enzyme related food at a time.

So I learned if I wanted meat, like some chicken or steak, that was great, I just didn't eat anything else at the same time, and that helped with the bloating issues, etc.

Like I said, it was reducing the load down to a few foods, and not overloading my system with putting foods from all different categories in my stomach at once...

That helped with the nausea after meals too.

Also, processed foods contain NEURO-TOXINS... Artificial colors, flavors, MSG, Ect...

These can exacerbate Your symptoms without even knowing why.  People realize their symptoms are worse after eating Chinese food take out, etc...

It's another reason plain foods in their natural forms are best for right now...

We forget that we're adding POISONOUS DRUGS IN THE FOODS WE EAT, And then wonder why we feel worse...

The good news is, it;s not forever, once You stabilize You can eventually add most if not all of those foods back in...

It's just that right now, with the brain teetering on the edge with a raw wound, grazing it with any other chemical is going to cause pain.

Ok, I'm really done now... Lol

@Colonial thanks for expounding on this, it makes me cringe to look back and see how I ate especially at work, chocolate bars, coffee, prepackaged meals, just quick easy stuff. I firmly believe if "we" had done even half of the things, meaning food and behavioral changes, we have to do to survive WD to begin with...

We never would have gotten a "diagnosis" and a drug recommendation to start.

Oh! And same things with Your liquids!

Things like Cool Aid and Ensure and Protein drinks are LOADED with Neuro toxins...Artificial colors and flavors, etc..

Plenty of water and regular Milk is all most people need.

Just be aware Milk, while a great source of Protein that's easily digestible, is high in naturally occurring sugars, so an actual cup instead of downing a whole glass at once....

Spread Your Milk out over the day, if Your able to drink it.

Hi

I am guessing that by taking Pred forte drops for my eye, I’m triggering withdrawl symptoms from mirtazapine. I read on SA that you can be very sensitive to different things and this would also involve histamine which is a neurotransmitter. Would that be correct? I thought I was having an allergic reaction to the Pred Forte but in reality it was triggering my withdrawal symptoms. Would taking a Benadryl to help be OK for times when it becomes very uncomfortable. I took Benadryl today and my breathing cleared up and so did the itching. Is that why I need to shampoo my hair so often because I feel itchy? I guess thats why iI have to watch my high histamine diet too because the brain is trying to recover. 😊💐

Please ignore my post, sometimes I get to rambling lol.

Hi Pens,

So you would like to try the 6% reduction, to 1.5 mg then, as soon as possible? B)

Pens, have you tried any magnesium yet, either Epsom Salts in a tub, or orally?  I'm just looking at your notes.  It might be calming.

And then still a lot of the itchy and allergic type responses?  Ugh.And saw the use of rubbing alcohol topically.....was that for the itchiness?  That could be really drying.  Thus creating more itchies.  Try some oatmeal baths, if you are okay with the colloidal oatmeal(prepackaged stuff you can buy) or some make homemade recipes for bathing(can be found googling)?

If you are okay with it, let's just give it a couple more days.  You're done with the eye drops.  Yay!  I want to see if the allergic reactions are better, or less often, without the Pred forte, or prednisolone.  I hope we see less symptoms overall soon.

If you feel differently, and do want to proceed.......I'm okay with that too Pens.  You have a better sense of your body and all, than I do.

And oh my gosh, thank you for all the notes and attentiveness.

You're the best!
