Hello @Rhiannon, you mention in your introduction that you went into some horrible suicidal depression after quitting your AD. Do you remember how long it lasted ? I know we are all different but I would be reassured if I had some kind of hope that it goes away after some time. Thank you

Hi Camille, this is pretty late, but in my case the depressions always lasted until I started another SSRI, except the last time, when I got pretty bad at first before I started tapering and early in the taper. That was a couple of rough years, but I was able to hold down a job, so it could have been worse.

Started on Prozac and Xanax in 1992 for PTSD after an assault. One drug led to more, the usual story. Got sicker and sicker, but believed I needed the drugs for my "underlying disease". Long story...lost everything. Life savings, home, physical and mental health, relationships, friendships, ability to work, everything. Amitryptiline, Prozac, bupropion, buspirone, flurazepam, diazepam, alprazolam, Paxil, citalopram, lamotrigine, gabapentin...probably more I've forgotten.

Started multidrug taper in Feb 2010.  Doing a very slow microtaper, down to low doses now and feeling SO much better, getting my old personality and my brain back! Able to work full time, have a full social life, and cope with stress better than ever. Not perfect, but much better. After 23 lost years. Big Pharma has a lot to answer for. And "medicine for profit" is just not a great idea.

Sure you are going to make it! You've travelled a long road and are still doing it. *bam*

When are you going to jump Xanax if I may ask?

I'm not looking at that yet. Will start to consider it once I feel I'm fully recovered from jumping off the cital. I'm down to a pretty low dose but what I am finding is that there is no such thing as too small of a dose.

Hi Shining!

I'm actually doing pretty well. That is, I'm pretty much my normal, which is to say not great a lot of the time but definitely nothing like how it was on the drugs and in withdrawal.  I really have had only very minimal withdrawal so far and I don't think it's going to get worse.

So--I successfully jumped off citalopram at 1/1000th of my original dose, and my previous attempt at 1/100th was too high, so at least now I have a baseline for my next one, which will be the Xanax.

Anyway, yay, it's been a long journey but hopefully I will never take another drop of any SSRI in my life!

@Rhiannon

Hello! I read your introduction and some of this thread and have to say that you certainly are an inspiration! Amazing job ❤️

I myself am in a difficult situation now with multiple drugs and a failed taper (and also another failed rapid taper from the past). Quite a lot of med changes and so on.

I am not feeling good right now, but haven't really felt good in a long time after my rapid taper in 2019. I just wanted to ask your opinion: In what way stable one should be before starting a taper? With this history of failed tapers, withdrawal and med merry-go-round, I have no idea what stable could even mean. Feeling the same for a long time, for example a year? How were you when you started your taper? Were you somewhat stable?

I am also considering multidrug microtaper. The only thing I am worried about is the benzo. If that loses it's effect and starts to actually worsen my symptoms (paradoxical reactions). On this site, it is recommended to save the benzo last, but I just wonder this aspect of tolerance and tolerance withdrawal when it comes to benzos. How has it been for you with a long period of benzo usage? I have been on the benzo only for 2 months now, so also thinking if I want to prolong the usage for many many years (since my taper is going to take a loooong time). Any ideas?

Citalopram for OCD 2008-2012, Drug free 2012-2015, Citalopram for anxiety 2015-2016, Drug free 2016-2017 (pregnancy), Sertralin for OCD 10/2017-04/2019. Tried fast tapering in 2019 for second pregnancy, failed (depression started), reinstated, med did not work anymore. Used Ativan then for 4 moths an tapered down in a few weeks with no problem. Built tolerance and interdose wothdrawal early on Ativan even with 3/day dosing. Since that, depression meds have had no effect.

Until Jun/2021: escitalopram 20mg (monotherapy), Jun/2021-Jul/2021: escitalopram 20mg + bupropion 150mg

Jul/2021-Jul/2021: escitalopram 10mg + clomipramine 10-75mg (tried to switch escitalopram to clomipramine but too bad side effects),

Jul/2021-Aug/2021: bupropion 150mg (reinstated in hospital) + escitalopram 15mg, Aug/2021-Sept/27/2021: bupropion 300mg (upped dose) + escitalopram 15mg

Sept/27/2021-Sept/17/2021: Bupropion 150mg (lowered dose) + Trintellix 5-10mg (switched escitalopram to Trintellix)

Sept/17/2021-Dec/8/2021: Trintellix 20mg (dosage doubled after stopping Wellbutrin since Wellbutrin doubles Trintellix's blood concentration with doses 150-300mg)

Dec/8/2021 : Trintellix 18mg, August 2022: crash at 5,8 mg Trintellix, hospitalized

September 2022: Trintellix 20mg, Ativan 1mgx3, mirtazapine 7,5mg, October 2022: Stupid rapid taper attempt of Trintellix 20mg -> 10mg -> 7,5 mg.  Back up to 15mg 10/16/2022.

Trintellix: 12/12/2022 13,94 mg (-7%); 1/9/2023 13,0mg (-7%)
