Symptoms after a long hold

To the veterans out there who have had long holds - @Rhiannon, @Gridley (if I am not mistaken) and others:

If you started tapering after a long hold (months), were the symptoms less severe than from the taper before the hold?

I had a short taper  (5 mos) of 40-0 from citalopram but reinstated within a month to 5 mg after severe WD and continued to drop at 10%ish a month. I then stopped cutting completely as it was not sustainable and things got better, not 100% but maybe 40-50%, then after a couple of months of cutting with strong symptoms I held again for another 3-4 months. Things have improved where I am occasionally at 70% but do have days that are low as well - back to old times. I woud like to start cutting again but wondering if things will be easier if I wait longer - i.e.better stabilization has occurred. I am quite scared of starting again as I have at least a year or two to go and am not looking back to the really traumatic times.  I know it is not helpful to have anticipatory anxiety and that is not where I am yet. I'd really like to get some information on expriences and either decide to power through or wait a bit and then start from a better place. I also don't know if this is the "new normal" for me - i.e. as good as it's going to get or just a window from which things could deteriorate. I guess there is an option of getting better from here but I fear being hopeful and hopes being dashed again.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Peace and calm to all.

Thank you,
OMW
