Mentor mstimc Posted April 1, 2020 Mentor Share Posted April 1, 2020 Hi I can't recall specific member stories and the site is no longer active but as I recall the experiences were very similar to yours--they experienced more intense withdrawal more often than those who tapered, but that wasn't 100% true. Some CT'd and had no more problems than anyone else--not that it was pleasant for anyone. If its only been a few weeks since a dose change, you may want to wait and give yourself a chance to stabilize. Have you been able to try any behavioral coping strategies like CBT? Mentor mstimc Posted April 1, 2020 Mentor Share Posted April 1, 2020 Melissa, one more thing to think about if you're looking for success stories. The posts you're seeing here and perhaps on other sites are a small fraction of the people who've dealt with getting off these drugs. Since most doctors don't recognize the reality of withdrawal, they tell their patients to get off them way too quickly. The vast majority of people don't understand the consequences of that and either suffer in silence for years or go back on the meds in ever-increasing doses. Sites like this can help you get through it. 2 Tim C Started Paxil for GAD in 1999 Unsuccessful taper attempt in 2006 Paxilprogress helped with a successful taper completed in 2009 Using therapy and CBT to manage my anxiety Link to comment

PerAsperaAdAstra
I totally agree with what Colonial says. Benzodiazepines can make it really difficult to gauge whether something is due to the Benzos or something else. I have reinstated to a larger dose of Paxil than you did and although it took a while I stabilised. So will you! And really, I found it to be a living hell but I got to tell the tale. You will as well. 1 Antidepressant history 2001 - 2018: Paxil / seroxat (20 mgs), several failed c/t and taper attempts. 2018-September: last failed c/t attempt. 2018-October: reinstated Paxil (30 mgs) 2018-October thru 2019-January: Short-term Oxazepam & Diazepam use. Colonial
100% of everyone has eventually stabilized as far as I know. I think maybe Your looking too far down the road worrying about your eventual taper. You wouldn't want to think about tapering right now anyway, since feeling somewhat better could be just a few weeks down the road. I don't think You've given this enough time yet. I know the suffering is hard, but constantly changing dosages or adding new things in make it harder to know what's going on. Melissa03
Hello to all Paxil reinstatement started working after exactly 40 days. BUT... The reason why I tapered so quickly in the first place returned, immediately after taking paxil I started again having those autoimmune reactions. So my question is-I would have to taper a bit quickly then recommended, what would be the safe approach to do that and not crush again after 3 months? I am at 10 mg,can I expect those reactions to lessen as I lower mg? Cause I saw with 10% taper I would be at 5 mg in 7 months. Maybe at 5 mg seroxat doesnt have any more side effects? So my story is,quick taper in month, crushed after 3 months, suffer badly for two months, stabilized a bit with persistent physical symptoms of fast taper and back on starting point with starting health issues cause of seroxat. Wonedrful story. About blurred vision and tinnitus, when can I expect it goes away? After I reach 0?Can it get worse during taper?Or can it be permanent cause of first fast taper?I would like completely honest answers and experiences as I would like to prepare myself for anything that can pop out on the way 20 mg seroxat from December 2012, several failed attempts to quit. Colonial
Yeah, I have that right now, the bloating and my inflammation is up too. I have a Covid test, which is known to give those type of weird auto immune reactions where the body turns on itself. My side effects did lessen the lower I went, that's good news. I guess You would have to decide which of the 2 is worse, the withdrawal symptoms or the side effects. If the symptoms that came back are annoying but tolerable, you might want to try a slower taper. Moderator Emeritus manymoretodays Posted April 18, 2020 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted April 18, 2020 (edited) Hi Melissa, Are you thinking of a direct switch or a "bridge"? Could you do a few days notes for us again? You did some before. And they are really so helpful to see before answering your questions. Especially if you can post a few days worth. Sometimes something stands out in regards to your drug and symptoms. Include all drugs and supplements, by name and dose, to the right of the time. Also symptoms as they occur throughout the day. And sleep. You may just need longer to stabilize at your current dose. Or...... maybe tapering might be started now. It's only been 40 days, since you reinstated. Are you able to follow along now, when suggestions are given? I don't know what happened when you first got here. On 3/10/2020 at 6:14 PM, manymoretodays said: Daily notes go like this: Keep daily notes of drug schedule and and symptoms to track patterns and progress 6 hours ago, Melissa03 said: I am also thibking about switching to Prozac in the future, what do you think about that ? From what I understood 10 mg of seroxat can be replaced with 5 mg of Prozac right ? I come up with 10 mg of Paxil being equivalent to 11.76 mg of Prozac, using some math, and the chart in the topic below: The Prozac switch or "bridging" with Prozac If I were you, I would have a good read through the ^ And in the first post, you'll see the link to the various antidepressant equivalencies, and where that came from too. It's not as simple as just a direct switch.......you'll see.......and does involve having a knowledgeable practitioner's help. Post some daily notes. So we can get a feel for how you are doing now. Mentor Heath Posted April 18, 2020 Mentor Share Posted April 18, 2020 @manymoretodays you are correct on the prozac dose. 11.76. I believe this is where you found dose equivalents. And I think it is on this site somewhere. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0165032715001512 @Melissa03 I understand your thinking. I too thought coming off Paxil was impossible. I pondered coming off on Prozac too. I actually transferred to it. But it irritated my tummy too much. So I transferred from Prozac to lexapro before finding this site to wd. Prozac is a little easier to come off because of half life it stays in your system very very much longer which is good when withdrawing. Yes all facts say Prozac is much much easier to taper. But you still may have wd symptoms. I had rather be on Prozac coming off but I’m not on it. I want to give a few words to assist you in your journey. You are getting better on Paxil rt now. And it’s only been 6 weeks and you are feeling better. If you keep going you will be starting tapering in 3 or 4 months or so. And tapering at 10% with help here is achievable. As I you have never tried tapering on Paxil 10% or less per month. You may want to try this first. If you transfer to Prozac you will have to do it with a smart dr and there may be side effects during this process and there my be side effects while taking it and you still have to stabilize. But a dr that is truly experienced in this can minimize these things. If the Paxil is threatening your health as in causing permanent problems then this may be a good choice. If not then you could stick with Paxil and you may stabilize and taper off it faster than if you would’ve transferred and stabilized and taper on Prozac . If you do go to Prozac I would find a knowledgeable dr on your side do my research, stay connected here, and stay on lowest dose and be stabilized before you make the transfer. These are only my thoughts and experiences. I’m not for or against. I’m not in walking in your shoes. We are here to support you. Whatever your decision Paxil or Prozac you have to stabilize and this can take many months. Colonial
My only concern is adding a "New" drug you've never been on may be the straw that broke the camels back. Slowly WDing off a drug you reinstated, even if it's giving you side effects, might be safer than adding another curve ball into the mix. Hard to say. Mentor Cocopuffz17 Posted April 23, 2020 Mentor Share Posted April 23, 2020 A slight bump in the road! You got this. It will get better. Each day that passes is one day closer to being healed I follow The Plant Paradox lifestyle by Dr.Gundry. This lifestyle has given me my life back and I feel better than I have ever felt in my life. It has enabled me to finally get off of this medication and truly live my life. Nutrition is the key to health!!!!! 2008 to 2019 - 20 mg Paroxetine Attempted 2 CT's around the 5-6 year mark. Were absolutely terrible and reinstated. Was never explained by the doctor the seriousness of the short half life of this drug. 2017 - Attempted a tapered discontinuation of this drug and reinstated after being unsuccessful. 2019 - Feb. 12 - After a three month taper I am off of paroxetine. The 3 months were terrible, awful withdrawal feelings. I followed the doctors guidelines for the reduction of this drug and now know it was way too fast. 2019 - Oct. 12 - 8 months off paroxetine. 75% improvement since coming off the drug. Definitely have had tons of challenges along the way. Let’s go!!!! 2021 - Feb. 12 - 24 months off paroxetine. I have minor challenges now. Tinnitus/Headaches are still around but are reduced by a massive amount. Link to comment
Melissa03
Hello, I have a question about my ears- tinitus,it seems louder since last night. Is seroxat damaging my ears ? Just a reminder I got it 3 months after fast taper and reinstated 10 mg. Do I need to do faster taper to avoid some possible ear damage ? Is slow taper going to harm it and make it louder ? About request about my daily simptoms- that does me a lot of harm when I observe it cause I become overly obsessed. 20 mg seroxat from December 2012, several failed attempts to quit. Colonial
If it started after the fast taper it's probably a WD related symptom. Doing another fast taper may only prolong your symptoms. You reinstating isn't damaging your ears. The rewiring of the brain that happened going on the meds is the culprit of why we have symptoms when we try to stop the medications. Melissa03
Today I am feeling really awful, first time to have awful anxiety. So it started a few days ago with increased tinitus, and today after I woke up I have this awful anxiety whole day . Couldn't get out of bed, just lying in bed whole day . My appetite is again decreased ,running thoughts. What does this mean ?? I was okeish for most of the April,I thought reinstatement is working, can you tell me what is this now ? 20 mg seroxat from December 2012, several failed attempts to quit. Last attempt in 2019 resulted in terrible crush after being 3 months drug free (13. feb 2020) 1 March 2020 reinstated 10 mg seroxat July 2020 began slow taper. Link to comment
Colonial
Is it just an uptick of symptoms or are you WORSE than before you reinstated? You do have to remember you only reinstated 10 mgs and your Original dose was 20. I had a lot of WD symptoms dropping down from 25 to 10 as well, it could still be your body adjusting to the med and still having the normal WD symptoms from the drop from 20 to 10 mgs. This is why I suggested waiting a few more months before you tapered. Just recently you were feeling so well you were thinking of starting to taper. If you had, you would have mis interpreted this "wave" as being from the taper, when in reality you need more time to stabilize. While I did start to feel better about the 6 week mark like yourself, I didn't feel "normal" again for 6 months and I had waves on and off through out that time. If your not having NEW symptoms you didnt have before and your not WORSE than before reinstating, it's most likely the normal waves and windows pattern. Also, if you've added any other med, supplement, or alcohol or other drug use, that could make your waves worse, as well as situational stress that was upsetting. Mentor Heath Posted April 28, 2020 Mentor Share Posted April 28, 2020 I believe it is what we experience with these meds and recovery. 1 step forward 2 steps back then 3 steps forward and 1 step back. You will have longer and longer good times with less and less bad times as time goes by . These waves will come and go. Remember this is a time thing. Melissa03
I didn't have any waves From 20-10 and I was almost a year on it. It all started after dropping 10mg. Now when I reinstated I thought I ll be stabilizing ,not experiencing windows and waves like after 0. Does this mean when I start to taper I ll be in double suffering? I think this louder tinitus is giving me panic attacks. 20 mg seroxat from December 2012, several failed attempts to quit. Mentor Hanna72 Posted April 28, 2020 Mentor Share Posted April 28, 2020 Hi @Melissa03 I was wondering if there is something that you could do to distract yourself from listening to your symptoms. Like maby take a walk, listen to music, watch a tv show you like. I feel if I focus to much on my symptoms, they get worse in my head, and then it can spiral into anxiety. I know this is really hard, but I am ok after years on this drug, and I am sure you will be too. Take your time to stabilise, that’s the most important thing right now. And take good care of yourself always, that’s also very important during this process.🙏 1999-2020 20 mg Paxil Bridged with Fluoxetine to help me get off Paxil. 2022 Fluoxetine 15 mg 12/12 14mg 27/12 13mg jan 12mg feb 11mg mars 10mg, 9 mg 8,5 mg 7.6mg 7.0 mg 6,3 mg 5,6 mg 5,0 mg 4,5 mg 4,0 mg 3.6mg 3,2 mg 2,9 mg 2,6 mg 2,3 mg 2,0 mg 1.8 mg I am not a medical professional nor is this a medical advice. Mentor Heath Posted April 28, 2020 Mentor Share Posted April 28, 2020 Melissa when there is a dose change then windows, waves, good days and bad days, weeks, months will happen. Nervous system has to adjust. This can go on for many many months. As for me when I have stop taking ssri and then reinstated it takes around 4 to 8 months to stabilize depending on how big a dose change and how long nervous system was in distress and how I would start the reinstatement. I believe it’s been about 7 weeks on 10mg for you . I believe you nervous system is trying to adjust and yes the ear thing can be causing more anxiety. And no you will not have double trouble when you taper because you will start tapering after you stabilize . 2000-2013 Paxil - 1 year fast taper 2013-2018 merry go round zoloft, cymbalta, lamictal, Prozac.
