I hope it’s ok I chime in here.
wondering what other thoughts are on the vaccine? Ontario - where I am- is releasing their covid passport system this week. All non essential businesses will require covid passport to enter.
I feel totally forced into the shot, and I’m already in a delicate state. Having to hold months and months. I’ve read too much fear-porn about it and tapering. How is this effecting people in WD?

*effexor since 2013- 75 mg (256 beads average)

So far the overwhelming majority have experienced little to no symptoms from taking the vaccine.

I personally had 0 increase of symptoms and that was while making my jump to 0 at the same time.

I think the belief of most is that a bout of Covid that can require you to take medications due to short term acute sickness or long haul symptoms are a far greater risk to our fragile CNS than a vaccine.

If you have had a flu vaccine while in withdrawal I would expect a similar experience.

40 yo Male. Started Paxil about 15 years ago. 10 mg (pill weight .125 - .129 g). 5 yrs wanted less side effects, doctor took me off Paxil over couple week period and put me on Wellbutrin. Not good. Went back on Paxil. Relieved my symptoms, but didn't work as well and more side effects. Severe reaction between Paxil and Zomig Summer of 2012. Head was affected during warmer days (cloudiness, confusion, pressure). Began 10% withdrawal 10/24/12.

Withdrawel helped many symptoms, but also added side effects: nausea, dizziness, tiredness. Hyper-anxiety started January 2014.

Went through a 2 year period of de-realization (2016-2018).  Rarely any windows.
Current dose: 0.00 as of 4/10/21.  Made a lot of progress in my withdrawal symptoms the last 2 years of my taper.  I think doing a liquid taper helped stabilize things on the lower doses.  A lot of my symptoms have reduced significantly.  Hoping for even more improvement now that I am off.

I had my first Moderna shot on March 29, 2021.  I chose not to get my second shot.  I'm now scheduled to get my second shot on Monday since I am feeling better.  I am confused by what I am seeing reported.  Does anyone know what effect a second shot 5 months apart will actually have?  It almost feels like it would be a booster of the effectiveness of just one shot.

The CDC says:

However, if you do receive your second shot of COVID-19 vaccine earlier or later than recommended, you do not have to restart the vaccine series. This guidance might be updated as more information becomes available. (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/second-shot.html)

I'm also confused by the reports coming in on the effectiveness against the Delta variant of receiving just one dose.  It seems like we just don't know yet.  A UK study suggests only 30% and a Canadian study suggests 72% for Moderna specifically.

Thanks for your time.

There was another member who had an extended symptom uptick from trying naltrexone to try to manage some part of their wd symptom journey.

Maybe the shot on top didn't help but I suspect the naltrexone could be an extended part of this. Whether it's responsible for 5 months alone or the shot combo or just the stress of how your life is going, hard to say.

In the future if you know your getting a vaccine on a certain date, a good idea may be to not try out a new med 2 weeks before or after, or as long a window between the 2 as possible, just to rule out any questions on what is more likely the culprit, or if, as sometimes happens, the synergistic effect of 2 new things together within 48 hours.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks so much! I agree with you- I’m thinking that the naltrexone is the culprit. Great advice about not switching things up around the time of future vaccines. Appreciate you!

Hello, just popping in to let people know that I have had both Pfizer shots and all was fine, other than a bit of a sore arm for a couple of days.  I had zero regression back to post-adverse reaction symptoms.

I have been fully recovered for a while but I do understand people feeling reluctant to try anything they fear might be destabilising.   Whilst recovering from my AR I had a whooping cough shot, tetanus booster, flu shots and a couple of travel vaccines.  All were fine.

Best wishes, and stay safe.

March 2003 took two sartroline tablets after a traumatic incident and had a reaction so stopped.  I am not sure now whether what I had for the next 18 months was WD after the reaction or the emotional fallout from the traumatic event.  Some of it was very similar to WD in hindsight.

February 2014 - Took five pristiq (50mg) tablets and three Ativan and had a severe reaction.
Extreme withdrawal symptoms for three weeks compounded by visit to naturopath -

One week later took 900mg St John's Wort x 3 daily for six weeks - more negative effects and suspected serotonin syndrome - before tapering over three weeks. Last tablet late May 2014.

Waves and windows cycle of recovery with longer windows and manageable waves.

May 2015 - already in a mild wave, following a usual pattern, I took clarithromicin and amoxicillin for two weeks for a sinus infection which I also seem to have had quite a reaction to.

February 2016 - Feeling much better.  I still have waves and windows but they are manageable.  I'm largely enjoying life again.

Anyone hopeful about the research and attention that "long covid" is getting?

Long Covid tends to sound like the withdrawal it affects many here, but unlike us, there isn't that much denial in the medical community. I want to believe some research about damage to the central nervous system might be also beneficial for us

HI JessB,

I took my second dose of the vaccine two days ago - yesterday was rough with low fever and a headache but I was able to work and today I am back to pre-vaccine state though with slightly more tiredness. This was the same from the first dose as well.

I also had Covid and that went for about 6 weeks and it was miserable and scary.

I don't think the vaccine has interfered with withdrawal in most people here.

Hope you stay healthy,
OMW

  • 1 month later...

I had my first shot of Moderna at the end of March.  I was very unstable at that time, I was in a state of panic quite often and my sleep was very poor.  I got the shot in the evening.  I got zero hours of sleep that night, which then triggered a major uptick in symptoms for about 24 hours.  I was hysterical and extremely uncomfortable.  But then it faded to my withdrawal normal the next day, which wasn't great, but was a relief.

My second shot was August 30th.  I made sure to take it in the morning.  It wasn't as bad at all, perhaps a sign that my nervous system is settling.  My reaction was similar to what people with 'normal' nervous systems experience - sore arm, exhausted, some painful lymph nodes, but no uptick in withdrawal symptoms and I was able to sleep.  I rested for a couple of days after the shot and then was back to withdrawal normal.

Hi everyone,

Here in Australia we are being pushed to get vaccinated as I assume all of you are around the world.

But we now have a choice of three vaccines just to make it harder 😀: Astra, Pfizer and Moderna.  Which one would you recommend from personal experience?

I have been struggling with dizziness as WD. So my main concern would be not to increase my dizziness with vaccination. Your comments are welcome.

It is not right for any of us to take on the responsibility of making a recommendation about which vaccination you should have.  None of us here know your medical history and it is not something that any of us can advise you on specifically.  All we can is tell you of our own experience.

I am not anti-vaccination.  But I am vaccine-hesistant.

One analogy I would like to include:  a smoke alarm will not alert you to a fire if it is sitting in the drawer, still in the packet and with no battery in it.  Just as a vaccine still in a needle will not provide any protection against covid.

I think my previous post/s discussed some of my reasonings.  I also found it difficult to find concise information so I've included some links below that I found helpful.  One of the things I really wanted to know was how the different vaccines were made.

I did a lot of research and waited for "the numbers", (ie how quickly the virus was spreading; number in hospital and in ICU and on ventilation including ages; deaths, their ages and their vaccination status) before I got vaccinated.  Once I could see from the reports that were being made each day I felt confident that the benefits of getting the vaccination outweighed the possible bad effects of the vaccination.

Originally I was going to wait for the Pfizer, but after finding out more details about how the vaccinations are made and how long they have been around for I preferred the AZ over Pfizer.  From what I understand Moderna is similar to Pfizer and Novavax is different to all of those 3.  If Novavax had been available I might have considered it over AZ but it was not an option due to it not being available during the recent increased Delta outbreak in Sydney.  Because of the quick spread of Delta I felt that it was more important to get vaccinated.  My doctor said to wait at least 8 weeks before the second dose, not 6 weeks that was being suggested.  I would have preferred to wait 12 weeks but thought that it was better to get it after 8 weeks because of the situation.

As Alto said:

The risk from the covid-19 vaccine is far less than the risk from getting covid-19.

As explained carefully earlier, you will not want to get covid-19 on top of your withdrawal problems. Even a mild case of covid-19 could put you sick in bed for a couple of weeks. A protracted period of recovery could make you very miserable indeed.

@CashmereCat Of the 3 you mentioned, Moderna has been shown to be the most effective. That is what I based my decision on. All vaccines can have dizziness as a side effect so it’s really impossible to predict what you will experience, if anything at all.

I have had many shots this year- pneumonia, 3 modernas, flu, and 1 hpv. Pneumonia was the first and almost the worst. Felt nothing from hpv 1, flu, and moderna 1.  Moderna 2 was the worst- chills, body aches, serious fatigue, arm soreness.  Strangely, all my WD symptoms magically disappeared while I had my Moderna 2 effects. It was, in some ways, an upgrade. Moderna 3 was in between 1 and 2, but closer to 1- really not bad at all, and barely lasted a day.

Was on Lexapro for 66 days starting in early January.  5mg for a week, 10mg for 3, 7.5 for 3 days, then 5mg and 2.5mg for approx two weeks after.

Was on Lithium for 60 days starting in late January. 1 300mg ER pill a day.  Stopped CT

Was given a .5 ativan script in early Jan.  Took it maybe 20x total from early Jan to beg of June, 2020.

-Fall of 2019:  had two vertigo attacks for the first time with no warning, each followed by 4-5 days of morning dizziness.

-Last Friday of 2019:  had first ever, out of the blue, panic attack.  Went to ER- didn't know what was happening.  Was diagnosed w/GAD, even though had never had anxiety or depression problems before.  Basically no health problems at all prior to this, and in very good shape emotionally, physically, and mentally.

-4 days after panic attack given lexapro.  That's when the hell began.  Was on it 66 days.  Reacted badly to it.  Gave me suicidal ideation 4 wks after starting it, plus exhaustion, off the charts anxiety, dizziness, and fatigue.  Did a fast taper over 5 wks.  Was on it 66 days total.

-been off lexapro completely since mid-March, 2020.  First 3 weeks I got better and better.  Then, week 4 into WD got slammed.  Since then, over 64 side effects/symptoms.  Can't drive.  At times, barely surviving.

-since Jan., have been to the e r 16x.

-was given lithium after experienced SI from lexapro to as a "mood stabilizer".  Never really noticed anything from it, nor anything after stopping it, except for a few days of heightened depression about a week after.

-was given low dosage ativan script 2nd week into lexapro to deal with the anxiety/panic spike caused by the lexapro.  Took it perhaps 20x between Jan and June, 2020.  Always made me feel better, but last time it was taken (early June) experienced intrusive thoughts after so stopped it.  Didn't feel any negative reaction from stopping it, perhaps b/c it was taken so infrequently and the dosage was so low.

@ChessieCati know you can’t make that decision for me:-). I just wanted to know what everyone’s personal experience was. I think I could handle any side effects but more dizziness.
here in Western Australia we are spoiled for choice of vaccines. That makes it difficult.

@CashmereCatI basically forced the pneumonia vaccine- it was before the covid vaccines were widely available here and I read that incidences of severe covid were rarer if you had the pneumonia vaccine.  No one told me to get the modernas but I jumped at the chance when they became available.  Same w/flu.

@CashmereCat No issues with the first dose. I had a severe headache and body pain for less than 48 hours with the second shot but very much worth it. Ibuprofen works much better for those side effects than Acetaminophen.

Antidepressants and Covid 19 - Scary Story

I just read this scary story about doctors doing studies about using Luvox to treat people with Covid 19. This seems like a dangerous road to me, given what we know about the effects of antidepressants. I can't imagine the numbers of people who might have side effects from taking even low doses for a short period of time.

A cheap antidepressant reduced the need for hospitalization among high-risk adults with COVID-19 in a study hunting for existing drugs that could be repurposed to treat coronavirus.

Researchers tested the pill used for depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder because it was known to reduce inflammation and looked promising in smaller studies.

They've shared the results with the U.S. National Institutes of Health, which publishes treatment guidelines, and they hope for a World Health Organization recommendation.

“If WHO recommends this, you will see it widely taken up,” said study co-author Dr. Edward Mills of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, adding that many poor nations have the drug readily available. “We hope it will lead to a lot of lives saved.”

The pill, called fluvoxamine, would cost $4 for a course of COVID-19 treatment. By comparison, antibody IV treatments cost about $2,000 and Merck's experimental antiviral pill for COVID-19 is about $700 per course. Some experts predict various treatments eventually will be used in combination to fight the coronavirus.

Researchers tested the antidepressant in nearly 1,500 Brazilians recently infected with coronavirus who were at risk of severe illness because of other health problems, such as diabetes. About half took the antidepressant at home for 10 days, the rest got dummy pills. They were tracked for four weeks to see who landed in the hospital or spent extended time in an emergency room when hospitals were full.

In the group that took the drug, 11% needed hospitalization or an extended ER stay, compared to 16% of those on dummy pills.

The results, published Wednesday in the journal Lancet Global Health, were so strong that independent experts monitoring the study recommended stopping it early because the results were clear.

Questions remain about the best dosing, whether lower risk patients might also benefit and whether the pill should be combined with other treatments.

The larger project looked at eight existing drugs to see if they could work against the pandemic virus. The project is still testing a hepatitis drug, but all the others — including metformin, hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin — haven't panned out.

The cheap generic and Merck's COVID-19 pill work in different ways and “may be complementary,” said Dr. Paul Sax of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, who was not involved in the study. Earlier this month, Merck asked regulators in the U.S. and Europe to authorize its antiviral pill.

"5% of Covid Lots account for 100% of Deaths in the VAERS reporting system."

( Indications show an average lot size of 1000 vials (approx. 6000 doses).

For those of You in the United States still in the market for choosing a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine before Your work mandate deadline soon kicks in, the independent report studying the VEARS data showing the most dangerous lot numbers is now available to the public.  I suppose for those members still "worrying" if their symptoms are from their shots,  you can look up your own lot numbers as well and hopefully You can put your mind to rest that your lot was part of the 95% that do not have major reporting issues.

Again, these are only the confirmed reports that made it into the VEARS system, but it is a reliable snap shot of how certain Lot numbers caused more problematic results than others, for whatever reason.

(Quality control problems, different formulation, etc.)

The reports pulled from the database were ones that had been submitted up to October 15th 2021 and they included all adverse reactions reported against the Pfizer and Moderna mRNA Covid-19 injections, as well as all adverse reactions reported against the influenza vaccines; which were used to generate a control dataset .

For Modera:

"The most harmful is lot number ‘039K20A’; causing over 4,000 adverse event reports."

(Here in NJ, we had a high profile female African American Pastor, age 44, pass away less than 2 months after Her first dose, from the photo of Her vaccination card on social media, it shows Her lot was, unfortunately the 039K20A.)

The second most harmful batch of Moderna vaccine was assigned lot number ‘041L20A’, and media reports show that it was actually recalled by the California Orange County Healthcare Agency in January 2021 following reports of allergic reactions.

For Pfizer, the most dangerous lot was: EK9231.

What is the source of that information, @Colonial? You know we have a policy of publishing the links to the source of reports.

Here is the CDC page discussing adverse events eported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/safety/adverse-events.html

About fatalities, it says

Quote

Reports of death after COVID-19 vaccination are rare. More than 423 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered in the United States from December 14, 2020, through November 1, 2021. During this time, VAERS received 9,367 reports of death (0.0022%) among people who received a COVID-19 vaccine. FDA requires healthcare providers to report any death after COVID-19 vaccination to VAERS, even if it’s unclear whether the vaccine was the cause. Reports of adverse events to VAERS following vaccination, including deaths, do not necessarily mean that a vaccine caused a health problem. A review of available clinical information, including death certificates, autopsy, and medical records, has not established a causal link to COVID-19 vaccines. However, recent reports indicate a plausible causal relationship between the J&J/Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine and TTS, a rare and serious adverse event—blood clots with low platelets—which has caused deaths.

That's a death rate of 0.0022% (22 people per 10,000), a very different picture than "5% of Covid Lots account for 100% of Deaths in the VAERS reporting system".

Furthermore, it appears the J&J vaccine, not Moderna or Pfizer, has the higher documented risk.

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.

Hi there,

The report didn't discuss the J&J, they only pulled the "confirmed deaths" (meaning a death certificate was issued) that were connected to either the Pzifer or the Moderna.  "Connected" meaning they died within a certain about of time of receiving the shot and the manner of death led to an assumption of probably causality, but not necessarily "proving" such in order to make the report.

Reports of adverse events to VAERS following vaccination, including deaths, do not necessarily mean that a vaccine caused a health problem.

Granted, however, now that you pointed that out, the fact that they fell within such a small percentage of lots over all, it would lead to a higher chance of causality, or the percentage would seem to be more random and broader a percentage.

"That's a death rate of 0.0022% (22 people per 10,000), a very different picture than "5% of Covid Lots account for 100% of Deaths in the VAERS reporting system".

I'm not sure how whatever total numbers VEARS is reporting of 10,000 is relevant to what percentage of total lots the reported deaths came from. Regardless of how many people died, the question is what lots they received. Also, it's % of lots in the system, not ALL lots in production, so that is another "unknown X" as a variable. 5% is already low to begin with, add more lots in production to the number already in VEARS and it's an even smaller % of LOTS that were an issue.

Considering VAERS is under reported, whatever the actual percentage, in theory, could be more broad if all were reported. But it being a snap shot of random deaths and not a full reporting, it still a small percentage of lots. Whether it is due to different lots being different strengths, having different formulations, what percentage were placebo's, etc., what possible lots may have been accidentally contaminated, etc. is really not something that is possible to pin down without broader info.  The point was merely that if certain lots were known problematic as opposed to others, it was enough for the basis of knowing what to look out for if people are still getting ready to go for shots and have whatever info available to decide which they wanted.

In all honesty, it will probably not be for quite a while than many questions such as this as to "why" patterns are they way they are, are fully answered, since many of the complaints are currently sealed in federal court documents, such as the Medicare testimony that 48,000 people covered by that insurance died within 3 days of receiving a shot between 12/2020 and 7/2021. For now, they remain what they are, files in sealed court documents, but not many people come forth without proof to perjure themselves in federal court, nor would the lawsuits even be filed without substantial legal proof to begin with. But considering the data on that complaint those lot numbers were filed as well.

Have a good night.

I have a question about significant worsening of the psychiatric symptoms three weeks after Covid illness.

I work physically and do hiking and cycling and I was in a good shape.

I have not been vaccinated and got Covid from my son (11yrs). My symptoms were: no coughing, no fever, loss of smell and taste, tiredness and most prominent was bad migraine like headache which lasted week and didn't respond to pain meds. After two weeks I was so called healthy, PCR test was negative. After that I was having really high heart rate after physical stuff (going upstairs, having sex etc.) I felt like I could pass out. It is ok now, three weeks later.  I feel worsening psychiatric symptoms lasting more than a week(rapid mood swings, anxiety, irritability, low mood). Could it be because of Covid or could it be related to immunomodulants (isoprinosine/inosine) and herpes meds(valaciclovirum) I take now because of low immunity and returning oral herpes? I was diagnosed with untreated lyme disease about 7 years ago, after test they found also low cell immunity, high level of Epstein Barr virus, herpes virus and varicella zoster. I was treated back then for six months with antibiotics and after with immunomodulants and was ok till now. Can immunomodulants like Inosine worsen symptoms? I didn't find anything on the internet. I stopped Effexor tapering when got Covid. Any ideas?

I have a question about significant worsening of the psychiatric symptoms three weeks after Covid illness.

ANY additional stress can cause symptoms to worsen.

Even good stress.  We have members who have gone on holiday and their withdrawal symptoms worsened, even though they enjoyed their holiday.

When the body is trying to cope with additional stress it means that it has to defer some other things that it does.

As an example, when you are in a fight or flight situation, digestion is slowed or paused.

Even though you are "over" the virus, your body is probably still trying to recover and set things rights.

When I was in Newcastle, NSW, Australia, when they had the earthquake, I broke out in hives.  Cold sores can happen when we have a cold, they are not part of the cold, but as a result of the body trying to fight the cold virus it is not able to fight the herpes simplex at the same time.  I can remember a time when I was very sick and I had cold sores all across my top lip.  When someone experiences the death of a relative, friend or family pet, they sometimes get a cold.  After my husband died I developed ulcers all over my tongue.  The chemist explained that it was caused by acid from the stomach; my body's reaction to the stress.

having Your exact dose down on your official medical record.  It is because of issues like this that I went with the pharmacy liquid version of my med where my pharmacy record matches my exact dose as opposed to just cutting up pills on a scale.  Of course, every option like that is not available to everyone or every med, so just do your best to have extra dosages made up and your exact dose on record in your official medical file.

I know this post is over a year old, but I have to comment.  In Australia, hospitals will not let you take anything you bring with you.  It could be something illegal or immoral, and they want to charge the pharmacy for your drugs.

For my knee replacement surgery, I was able to bring labeled, compounded medicines, but I was not able to bring self-prepared ones or supplements of any kind.  Since they wanted me off of turmeric and fish oil before the surgery, I just quit most of my supplements.

But they don't want you taking anything out of your purse, cosmetics bag, or otherwise.  The only drugs / medicine they want in your mouth are the ones they gave you.

So Colonial's preparations might work in NJ, but they would not work here.  My best guess is STAY OUT OF THE HOSPITAL if at all possible.

A lifetime of being prescribed antidepressants that caused problems (30 years in total). At age 35 flipped to "bipolar," but was not diagnosed for 5 years. Started my journey in Midwest United States. Crossed the Pacific for love and hope; currently living in Australia.   CT Seroquel 25 mg some time in 2013.   Tapered Reboxetine 4 mg Oct 2013 to Sept 2014 = GONE (3 years on Reboxetine).     Tapered Lithium 900 to 475 MG (alternating with the SNRI) Jan 2014 - Nov 2014, tapered Lithium 475 mg Jan 2015 -  Feb 2016 = GONE (10 years  on Lithium).  Many mistakes in dry cutting dosages were made.

That is generally a protocol we "prefer" to work with here as well but for dosing 0.32 of a milligram of something they will not have that, and it is illegal for them to deny you taking your "regular" medications, so if they don't have an equivalent, they have to allow you to bring your own. But it would have to be documented in your records that is what your "supposed" to be taking.

It's also an issue of them not legally being allowed to "force you" to "purchase" their medications at exorbitant prices per pill.  They can't make me purchase 2 Tylenol from them for $12.00 a dose when I can bring my own. In countries where the government pays for all the medications anyway that may not be a legal issue but in a country where many people purchase their meds out of pocket it is. As long as the "markings" on the pill match what the outside of the bottle is they don't have a case to deny you the right to take it over what they want to sell you. But it generally doesn't come to that.

This is why it's good to have your official records chart from your doctor matching what you say your taking and also why I preferred the pharmacy compound.  If you show up with home made pills and your doctor doesn't even know what your up to it's problematic. Looking "forward" in time at a 2 plus year taper I had to assume the possibility I could be hospitalized for an extended period and neither cold turkey=ing  or "overdosed" back on a strength I just spent years trying to wean down off of would be conducive since the side effects of either could be misconstrued as part of whatever problem I'm now needing assistance.

Of course this all "assumes" your conscious. And if your not and your med records aren't correct their going to "reinstate" you at the higher dose they "think" your actually taking which is no good. Either way, in this climate I agree attempting to stay out of the hospital for the next year at least is a very good plan.  My friend was just in and they didn't even have a room for them, they spent 48 hours in the hallway.

So how much of the long-term COVID symptoms are COVID and how much are the results of treatment, including adverse drug interactions that we see regularly here on this forum?

I have also heard that "long COVID" is people who didn't give themselves enough time to REST AND HEAL and jump back on the treadmill too soon, causing waves.

It would be similar to us being less than kind to ourselves when coming out of a wave.  You know the feeling, you've been out of it for a week or more, and then you have a good day and you want to get everything done. . .

But I do agree that pharmaceuticals could be compromising, as well.
