thank you @Longroadhome hope you're doing okay yourself!

@TotallylostSomeone who is also lost! I know how awful you must feel! The regret is strong I know. I still cant believe I took it either. i hope you get some relief soon. its hard as we don't know when that will be, but symptoms do change and the intensity lessens. You won't feel this bad forever.

@Longroadhome hi would you happen to know roughly how long recovery took of the person on Baylissas site? I used to be a member but the stories dont seem to mention the timeline for recovery. Thanks

Hi there @keogh08

the adverse reaction success story after taking one tablet . It took over a year before she started to have better days regarding anxiety. And gradual progress in other areas from there. But as you say very sketchy as Baylissa says it doesn’t matter how long a person is in WD only that eventually all recover. She doesn’t want us to get hung up on timelines which is understandable.
the site is baylissa.com for those not aware of the Bloom in wellness website.

15 month update

15 months since my severe adverse reaction to Citalopram - not much positive to report. I hoped that I'd be a lot better by now and feeling hopeful but I'm not. Taking that drug for 7 days has completely destroyed my life. I still cant believe it. My body feels broken beyond repair.

SYMPTOMS: I have vibrations in my spine 24/7, heavy spine, burning, tingling, weak, uncoordinated legs, heavy limbs, numbness, raynaud's/bad circulation, brain fog, teeth chattering 24/7, feel like I could black out or have a stroke at any point, blurry vision, bad sleep, popping joints, pulsing feelings in my chest. I had none of these symptoms prior to taking Citalopram.

It's still torture everyday and I don't have windows. My nervous system is certainly damaged and I'm doubtful that it will be able to recover. Everyday I wonder how I'm going to live the rest of my life like this, 15 months already feels way too long. I have not worked since this happened and can feel life just passing me by. How do I come to terms with accepting such a profound neurological injury and all the grief that comes along with it? I'm just feeling completely overwhelmed and devastated.

You WILL get better. There is not one person with an adverse reaction, given time, that has not made it to recovery.

Why will you be any different?

I know how you feel when in the throes it’s impossible to think our body will ever find peace again. That’s another symptom of WD. Ruminating.
Yes it’s so  unfair that this has happened to you. One week on a drug and 15 months later still very ill. It’s not fair on anybody to have to suffer so much from a prescription drug.
But we are in this situation and  we have to accept the seemingly impossible  task of facing yet  another day. Day after day.
But it’s the only way through.
You have  been very brave Lostrunner. Continue to be so because you will get your reward. Recovery.
keep going. So many have made it before us. One day we too will be able to send a message to others suffering. And that message will be that we made it through to recovery x

Thank you @Longroadhome you're so kind to offer encouragement! I worry because I had seizures on the medication and I had terrible burning and electric shocks down my spine and since then it has been almost unbearable and is so weak. I haven't seen this in others. Thank you I know its the only way through, just feels impossible.

I had a movement issue after taking an SSRI short term though it is a bit different to yours. Sometimes when I walk and move I would freeze in place, i'd feel stiff or I would fold over like i'm falling but I wouldn't actually fall and it would be difficult to get back up again because sometimes my body seemed not to respond to what I wanted. Stress made it worse but it was one of the earliest issues I had and went away the soonest.

Sorry that you are still having problems with your back and walking and everything. Perhaps trying to fight against it and getting more upset about it would actually make the issue feel worse? idk though just my random thought. I say that because when I was really upset and worried about my symptoms and feeling like I would never get better sometimes it made my symptoms feel worse to me and was like a circle because they felt worse and it reinforced the thoughts that i'd not improve.

Feel free to tell me if i'm telling rubbish though

January 2018 - 50mg sertraline for only 2 days, had adverse reaction.

On 0 psych drugs now.

Took a very long time for symptoms to go away, got better mentally 100% in April 2020.

Turns out also had low vitamin d, low calcium and low thyroid in August 2020.

Treated with colecalciferol and now all physical symptoms gone. Possibly overlap between this issue & sertraline symptoms?

May 2021 Still taking colecalciferol, all physical symptoms gone. Unsure if this will return if I stop vit D for long time ?

Now consider myself fully healed.

Other medication: 5mg certirizine for allergic rhinitis once a day or when needed, cut down from 10mg just in case that was causing issue too since i've taken for over 8 years now.

FULLY RECOVERED NOW 🙂

Hi @HopefulDawn I'm glad to see you feel recovered now, that really is excellent! Looking forward to read your success story!

I don't know, everyone is effected differently by these drugs so it's hard to say how each person should feel. I don't think that I fight against my symptoms, they're just there. It is obviously distressing and worrisome but I do distract as much as possible. But overall I think it's a perfectly normal thing to find this upsetting and to allow myself the space to be upset about it. Other people might be different but for me it doesn't change the intensity of the symptoms.

I hope she is doing fine as well. Because as I speak of myself I had the same adverse reaction and same sympyoms like the Lostrunner but I am now 100% back to normal and living a happy life after 2 years of unspeakable mental torture agony hopelesness, bed ridden non existance trauma, 24/7 suicidal ideation, and 100s of dreadful symptoms which I still cant belive I survived. Stay positive. It will definitely recover. There was time when I became dead sure that I am not gonna heal ever. I was the most difficult periold because it already had lapsed around 2 years. In these 2 years i just recovered 50%. Yes the recovery was very very gradual and subtle. A slight improvement every month and that too not so noticable. But the major recovery ensued in just last 2 months. A sudden improvement in every symptom and all dreadful symptoms vanished kind of suddenly. Now I even dont remember that once I went through hell. That seems just a scary dream. If you have come that much long then i assure you that you are very close to healing. And it will happen in a speedy way at the end. Try to take healthy choices in eating. It does make difference though in a subtle way. Stay strong.

Hi @Longroadhome Thanks for checking in on me and sorry I haven't responded till now. I'm doing better than when I last posted but definitely not recovered. I still have constant, very uncomfortable physical symptoms unfortunately. I haven't posted as I don't really know what to say. It is the slowest 'recovery' and I still don't know if this is my new normal or at what point my body has done all it can to recover. This month marked 2 years since my adverse reaction. Unbelievable! How are you doing?

Glad you are doing better @Lastisland and @keogh08we're in a similar boat it seems! hope you find some more healing soon.

my walking has improved since last year. its a case of looking back every few months and realising that I have made some kind of improvement even if it's small - that's what keeps me going!

sorry to hear your symptoms are intense, hope you get relief soon! seems like time is the only answer

Hey @LostRunner,

Long time no speak. That's great news re your walking improving! I'm so pleased for you. You are absolutely right: time is the major factor in recovery.

January 2008 to April 2015 Citalopram 20mg to 5mg, reducing in 50 per cent leaps. Jumped off at 5mg

March 2016 used MDMA triggered setback

April 2016 Citalopram 10mg October 2016 cut to 5mg, May 2017 cut to 2.5mg

May 2018 used MDMA triggered setback

June 2018 Citalopram 2.5mg up to 10mg, then back to 5mg

July/ August 2018 7.5mg, then 10mg

June 2019 updosed to 20mg Citalopram

August 2019 cold switch to Venlafaxine 75mg XR

Supplements; 1100mg fish oil daily; also 100mg Magnesium Glycinate. Tried Vagifem 10mcg from mid May 2021 to mid June 2021; caused depression, so stopped.

Especially my ability to walk, Now use wheelchair inside the house, on disability pay, household care. Body burns like hell, neuropathy from head to toe. I guess i won the sufferlottery. Hi, @1WishToHeal thanks for asking. i'm still very much trying to recover, i hope you are ok

An update from me - i'm still on the very long road to recovery. Whilst I am in no way near the sheer hell of the first 18 months, I still have symptoms that significantly impact my life every day.

It makes me really sad (and shocked) to think it's been 32 months since the reaction and I'm still quite uncomfortable in my body.

My nervous system still vibrates 24/7, i have tinnitus & my spine still pulses all the time, which makes me feel generally weak and my legs feel shaky when I walk and stand. These are my most worrying and debilitating symptoms. I'm lucky in that I've been able to work for the past year. It is hard to concentrate with all the symptoms going on. I don't have very good resilience to stress and can feel exhausted from not very much. I do feel like my body has aged by 50 years, which does get me down. I can't remember what it's like to feel normal, but I'd love for my nervous system to calm down one day. I have no idea if that's possible or not. It feels overwhelming to think i might be stuck like this, and that i've recovered all i can. I try to take it a day at a time as much as possible and not think too far ahead. Sending love to anyone struggling right now x

Lostrunner

it may not seem like it but you are making progress--see your post from March.  Recovery takes place over time--I wish it was a nice steady daily path but its not. I never thought my WD would end and it seemed I wasn't improving as fast as others.  Its frustrating and frightening to think we're stuck in this nightmare.  But we're not.  Anyone can recover.  If I knew the secret to quick recovery, I'd be the first to share it, but unfortunately it takes time, acceptance and patience.  You are stronger than you think--you will recover!

I'm sorry to hear that it's still troubling. It looks like most people that had an adverse reaction have a rough time 😕

Me too struggling every hour, still no improvement physically, only mentally. But physically i can't walk, buzzing CNS, neuropathy etc.. I'm 22 months out

It detoriated neurologically over the months for me.

But the head cleared up at least.

I followed you from the beginning and will keep doing. I wish you all the best Lostrunner! Stay strong.

I can relate to your name! I liked to do 10km joggings but that was a long time ago ;) I would love to do even groceries by now.

At least good that you can manage to work a bit, even when it's troubling. It sounds like a bit of progress...

Much love

Hi @1WishToHeal, so sorry to hear you're still struggling so horribly. I have definitely made progress, without a shadow of a doubt. I can only say, just keep going. the changes do happen but they may be microscopic and so you can't really notice them at the time, it's only say 6 months later you might look back and see there has been an improvement in something. I hope this becomes the case for you. I too found the mental improvements definitely started to get better after around 18 months, but the physical symptoms have been much much slower.

I know I'd love to get back to running, i miss it so much and can't believe I could just do it before. However I can say that i can easily go and get groceries now, which i definitely couldn't do for a very long time without it being reallly really horrible both mentally and physically. Just give it more time and i hope you start to get a bit of ease in your body, it truly is mortifying when you cant do the things that you wouldn't have thought twice about before. Thanks for the support, keep going, the changes will come!
