I love visuals and this is a great one and lovely as well as I have numerous bamboo plants in my garden. Their root system is really amazing, as with our healing, spreading all over underground (our brain) and, suddenly, there are little bamboos peaking through the surface and then, wow do they flourish. Wonderful analogy 💕

I agree, when I busy myself the dizziness is much less pronounced and quite manageable. The ruminating, as you said, makes it much worse. I do track my symptoms on a bar type graph and it has shown me that I do experience small windows. Before monitoring I believed I wasn’t having any. Healing can be a little sneaky just like those bamboo roots🙂

How wonderful you have bamboo shoots in your garden this can be a reminder to you that you are healing it’s just that the healing is taking place below the surface.

I keep meaning to print the picture, frame it and put it on  my wall as a reminder when I get up each morning but you can just look out the window!! 😊

Glad you are experiencing windows. Those moments of reprieve give us hope don’t they.

it’s a difficult journey and unpredictable it really does help to take one day at a time and not be too impressed with times of severe symptoms.

I have a great distraction my granddaughter who I see most days. She always makes me smile she’s so precious. She’s 19 months now and saying lots of words but my favourite is when she calls me Nanny. I have another granddaughter to be born in June.

Yes, my garden is one place I can go and work and it really helps me not notice my symptoms so much. Of course right now the weather is not nice so I’m not able to go out yet. I’m looking forward to the Spring and getting outside. It helps me so much.

Wonderful that you have a granddaughter and a second one on the way. I have heard from other friends that there is nothing that can compare to having grandchildren. Probably one of the best distractions that there is.

I’m having a bit of a difficult day today so I was happy to receive your message; I like the words you used, “not to be too impressed with times of severe symptoms”. Perfect! Thank you.

How has your WD journey been so far do you have many symptoms ?

Im babysitting my granddaughter today as the nursery is closed due to Corona Virus.

its been really bad here and I know many people who have had the virus including myself my husband and my sister . I only had it mild my husband still has the cough and has still lost his sense of smell it’s been 5 weeks and my sister had it very bad in October she has asthma and is still suffering with her chest and still has no sense or taste or smell. For her it’s been over three months .

I am in a wave again. I have symptoms that seem so bizarre and difficult to describe but I will try. The dizziness is the most pronounced, on the floaty boat all day long. My legs ache, tingle, get tight and feel like the muscles are pulling under the skin. I get surges of fear in my stomach. I get a dull ache and burning on the top of my head that comes and goes. These have all seemed to worsen as of late however, the windows have lengthened. It’s almost soul crushing when I have a window and I feel like such a different and life loving person and then the extreme wave returns and it crushes me. I get so frightened and start thinking I better search for a new doctor but, in reality, I don’t think anything can be done....

How about you, your symptoms?

I’m so sorry so many of you have sufferedfrom the Virus. It’s such a terrible and scary time. I don’t go out much, only for groceries once a week and a couple appointments. My gym has reopened, a place I love to and is good for me physically, of course,  but also mentally. Unfortunately I am still hesitant to go due to COVID.
I hope you are having a good day.

Hi @Patti2057

Sorry to hear you’re in a wave. These times make you feel you’re never going to heal don't they WD is just a mine field and so complicated  to navigate or try and make sense of. That’s why it’s so scary because we never know what’s coming next.

I get what you mean about searching for a new doctor. I feel like a hypochondriac I’ve had so many tests with new symptoms. MRIs CT scans blood tests. All normal .

I have many symptoms, such as muscle and bone pain, anxiety, depression ( who wouldn’t be depressed going through WD!) etc but the three most intense and persistent symptoms are the floaty boat, tinnitus and hair loss/breakage. I had nice hair but now I have to wear a hair piece because I’ve lost so much and what I do have is brittle and in poor condition.
I have a once a week telephone appointment with Baylissa Frederick. She wrote a book on WD and has been through it herself. She is wonderful and reassured me I will recover and that all the symptoms are only temporary . Including the hair loss . I’ve had many tests to try and find out what the hair loss could be down to but apart from low vitamin D and Zinc everything else is normal . Baylissa says she has a whole album of people that have sent photos of their hair loss and says it is a common problem so I am very hopeful one day it will reverse. Until then I have a lovely blonde wig cut into the same style as my own hair and nobody can tell !! Not even my daughter :)

Do you have support during this time of WD?

I’ve had every test imaginable as well. One thing I’ve never had was a hearing test which is something they do when evaluating dizziness. I don’t think anything will come of it if I had one done as my hearing has not changed, but I am considering it. Have you done any of that testing? Mind blowing how much is altered from these medicines ☹️

I also have a weekly counseling appointment that does help. The reassurance that we will heal is so necessary. Being in the midst of WD day after day makes it so very difficult to even imagine there is light at the end of the tunnel. This has been one long tunnel to travel through.

Im retired but worked a few hours a week before this all started. If I get to feeling better and the COVID situation improves, I’d like to possibly do some volunteer work. How about you?

Do you mean an ordinary hearing test?
If so I have and I have mild hearing loss, I don’t think the dizziness has anything to do with hearing loss not for me anyway.
I have been to see a neurologist he did all kinds of tests because I thought I had MS. He also did an MRI brain scan and all came back normal . I then went to see an otolaryngologist he checked ears and balance and said the dizziness was not coming from a problem with ears but with the brain . This made more sense to me because my balance and coordination are fine.
was this the same for you?
since having this problem I also have difficulty sitting on chairs because I feel like I’m going to fall off if it’s a stool or kitchen chair . It’s called Perception distortion and this came on the same time as the dizziness so I think it’s connected. Do you get this ?
As you say it’s mind blowing just how much of our system is affected by these meds. You couldn’t make it up.
Do you feel  dizzy even when you lie down , I do? It’s with me 24/7.
it’s good your windows are getting longer that’s real improvement and as you say your dizziness is manageable during the windows . I know we will heal from this and it’s really good that you are off all meds so your body doesn’t get confused and can have peace and no disruption returning to homeostasis. You will get there.

it is a long dark tunnel and the best we can do is not fight it but work in its presence. Accept and allow is the only way as hard as it is at times.
i am retired from managing a children’s day nursery and now have a manager running it  for me. It’s my business.  COVID has hit us hard and numbers have dropped dramatically because parents are now working from home and sharing childcare between them.

do you have support at home ?
I am separated  from my husband but he is still very supportive as are my children and my sister. It helps to talk to family even though they don’t understand what we are going through doesn’t it.

I’m in  the process of moving house which doesn’t help stress wise.

Better days will come 😊

Thank you so much for taking the time to communicate with me. It helps so much to have someone that understands what I’m going through 💕💖

Yes, I am thinking of meeting with an otolaryngologist and he requires a hearing test first prior to seeing him🤷‍♀️My coordination is fine but my balance is a little off-I move from side to side when I stand still, and more so if I close my eyes. It is very slight, and doesn’t look like much to someone observing it but it feels terrible to me. I don’t have the same sensation as you when sitting; I’m okay in a chair. Interestingly, I never felt dizzy when I lie down but now, for about a month and a half, that has begun. So frustrating, after all this time my symptom has changed. I just have to keep believing that it’s just part of the healing, one thing sets and then something else has to reset until all is in balance again.

Im so sorry that your business has suffered due to COVID. Unbelievable how our world has changed so dramatically, very sad. I’m sure it’s difficult moving during all you are going through but I hope you will find happiness when your move is completed and you are settled.

Yes, I have my husband who has been my everything. He is very supportive and patient and very positive. He truly believes this will come to an end one day and I will be healed. It’s interesting, my husband feels like he has an understanding of the dizziness feeling because he takes an antidepressant and has told me that if he forgets to take it, even only for one day, he feels the way I describe how I feel. And he can sympathize. That really helps and is more proof that this truly is WD.

Better days ahead🙏🏻💖😊

Hi Patti

it’s good to communicate with others going through the same it’s good to know we are not alone ! Thank goodness for the internet where would we be without it !!

It’s good you are considering meeting with an otolaryngologist as it will put your mind at rest that it’s just WD and nothing else . It will disappear at some stage.I don’t know where we find our patience from do you ?

is it the floaty boat feeling you have when you lie down ? Do you have it constantly ?

it’s so  lovely your husband is understanding and supportive it must be so difficult going through this with no family support.

My week regarding floaty boat has been very manageable but I seem to settle into a pattern now so I can have times like this week and then for no apparent reason it will intensify considerably . And when it does I also get the distorted perception of being unable to sit on a chair without feeling like I’m going to fall off. It’s soooo weird .

Just think  we have got through another week of healing that feels so good!
my WD graph shows me things are improving but I really wouldn’t appreciate these positive changes without recording them daily as the improvements are minuscule and sooooooooooooo long winded !!?

Hi Long,

Yes, the dizziness is with me almost constantly, not as bad when I lie down. I had one decent day this week but yesterday was very bad again. It made it almost impossible to function. In turn, all my fear intensified that I will be like this forever. It’s such a horrible feeling and I can’t understand why it gets so bad after all this time in WD. Am I unable to heal? I feel so defeated 😭

Patti

you WILL heal that’s a certainty . Definitely definitely. You must keep going and know it’s inevitable that the outcome will be recovery.

it’s very common to have times like you are having because recovery is not linear. Remember one step forward two steps back. It’s your WD brain telling you that you won’t heal so pay no attention and tell yourself the truth that we all heal eventually when the time is right.
read the thread by Mirage. She had the floaty boat for well over two years and is now better. She also had a period where it got a lot worse during her recovery just like you but she still recovered .

it is an awful feeling. Scary, bizarre and relentless. You are very brave and resilient.

I do understand .

I hit tolerance with lots of symptoms in 2018 started tapering,  crashed, and have had 2.5 years of relentless sometimes very debilitating symptoms .
i know  how it is to feel tired, weak, crushed  and lose hope.

but as hard as it is we have to learn to distract ourselves every day throughout the day . We have to work through the day alongside whatever symptoms WD brings.

surrender and accept because it’s the only way.

you can do it you’ve been doing it every day for  2 years. You may feel despair but never give up keep going never give up hope.

Hi Long. How are you doing? I’m still struggling. Can’t keep thinking I’m in a permanent state of suffering. Sorry to be so negative. Just so exhausted from all this.

It’s so lovely that you have your dog to go walking with and your daughter as well. I think that helps a lot in this process.

Thank you sweet Long💕I’m sorry you are suffering as well. I pray so hard that we will heal and regain our zest for life and live it to the fullest soon.
I did have the hearing test yesterday and that was all normal. I’m not scheduled for the doc until March 1.
I am in a bad state of anxiety right now too. It’s so difficult to break away from it. I got upset last night watching a video, only bits because it was difficult, about akathisia. I should never have done that because I began ruminating that I might have that (internal) or get it still. I can’t believe how crazy I make myself 😭

I hope you start feeling better soon.

were all the same . It’s often when I’m searching for something hopeful on the site that I’ll let myself get lead down the dark path of despair by getting caught up on a negative thread .
I think during WD our brains are wired to react in a nano second to anything upsetting and then to magnify it a hundred times .
if it makes you feel more “normal ” then please believe I make myself crazy doing stuff like that too !!! Fact.

Good that your hearing test was normal. As I’m sure your test will be in March .

Yes, another day of healing ahead. One more day closer to recovery 🙏🏻💖🙏🏻At this time, sadly, I don’t have much to fill my day. I don’t get together with the couple friends I do have due to COVID. We are all waiting to get the vaccination and, hopefully, we will feel then safer to socialize. I am close with my husband’s family but they live in another state and both my parents, I was very close to, have passed. It is a lonely time. We do have two parrots 🦜 so that is at least happy company to be around.  I look forward to the Spring, to be able to work in my garden. That will help a lot.

Same here regarding restrictions mixing with other households. It is forbidden though we can meet up with someone from another household outdoors .
ive been doing this with my friend when we walk our dogs of a weekend . otherwise yes it is a lonely time.

Sorry about your parents having passed away both mine have too in 2018.

I had COVID in October and so did my husband ( we are separated  but in lockdown together) and so has my sister. I only had it mild same with my husband but my sister has asthma and she had it very bad and now has long term COVID.
Most of my staff at work have had it too. We are a big city and the second wave has really hit us. We are in lockdown all over the country.

my sister is a nurse and has refused the vaccine because she has heard some people have had problems with it after having COVID.
after being a little concerned about having the vaccine mainly due to being in WD and how I may react to it I have decided to go ahead and I’m just waiting for a date. My husband has his next week.

Two parrots 🦜! Do they talk ? We used to have a budgie that talked she was lovely and so clever !

Yes, I was debating the vaccination as well but have also decided to get it. I need all the help I can get to get back out there and live life. However, age wise I am not eligible yet as there is limited availability. So it may be quite some time before I can get it.

We had budgies when I was growing up and I had my own when I moved into my own first home. He also talked amazingly well. I now have an Alexandrine and an Umbrella Cockatoo. The Cockatoo talks but his vocabulary is not that extensive. But he does have a very impressive scream😂😂

So I’m considering Acupuncture as I’ve read it can be helpful for dizziness. Have you read anything? Not sure yet. I don’t want to stir anything up by doing that so the idea scares me a little bit. Thinking...

I don’t know if you have Netflix. I just watched a wonderful feel good movie that has a Magpie in it. It’s called Penguin Bloom. You might enjoy it if you can find it. 😊

Hello. I’m reaching out to administration because I am so scared. I have been suffering for almost two years, almost constantly, with dizziness that began 5 months after CTing Venlafaxine and Bupropion. I believe it’s WD because of the timeframe but why is it not getting even a little bit better and, sometimes, seems actually worse the further out I get. I’m so frightened this might be permanent and I haven’t found anyone in the forum suffering the same this far out without some improvement. Any thoughts? Will I still heal from this?

Thank you,

Patti

Hi Patti2057,

I really need to just respond here, rather than in PM.  So often, other members can benefit, from some of the responses given to another member.  I mean when I was still in acute WD, I'd just grab on to any good advice I could find here to begin to cope, and sometimes that was written to someone else.  Sometimes it was in another forum, on site.

And you should just see, the huge list of people, members, and other stuff that I hope to get to today.  Which is okay, I love this stuff! B)❤️

You can always use the @symbol to get someones attention.  Once you type the @ and even a letter after it, the member, mod, and administration names come up......then you select one, and trust me, we'll see it when we can carve out some time to come work here.

I was taking Acyclovir too, when I first arrived here.  And then when I looked at it, learned about it some more, I went off of it.  I usually start with Drugs.com to find out more about any particular drug, and then go from there.  Drugs.com

And you'll see where to plug in an individual drug, right at the top, and then read all about it.

I've done quite well off of it too.  And always wondered about taking that regularly, especially post, some of my experiences with using it, on hospitalized children, intravenously.  I remembered how risky it was, but those children were severely ill, and so compromised at times too........that all I could do, was moniter them closely, and work with the team, on their care.

So anyway......I don't know as well as you do, the whys for the Acyclovir.   But you might learn all you can about it, and your condition.  And then of course, you know that you are an equal partner in your health and well-being care.  And that is important to acknowledge.

So anyway, I came off it quickly and researched alternatives for antiviral care.  I adopted a few.  And keep some Acyclovir on hand, in case I need to do a 10 day course of it, and have done pretty darn well.  Ideally, I should have just reduced by 1/4 dose, each day, held for a couple of days, reduced some more, same, until off.  I don't recollect exactly how I did it.  And am graced with a kind listening GP, who also I can discuss things with.

And so, sometimes changes can take time too, I mean that was my experience.  And hey, I'm also a Nardil survivor.  That was one of my first AD's, late 80's, early 90's.  The other ones all made me worse.  And little did I know that the MAOI AD's could be as nasty as the rest to come off.  Which I eventually did, having had one severe reaction to food and the MAOI, and then getting a break from work too.......to come off that one.  Unfortunately, that was a disaster, doing it with the standards the psychiatrist I had at that time.  And onward into years of further "diagnonsense", medications/drugs, and over medication/drugs, adverse reactions, WD's, and finally.........and gratefully seeing that I only was getting sicker all along.  So anyway........this may relate.

I think I am just relating today.  To where you might be at right now.  You sound very scared, and feeling alone, and the dizziness is your predominant symptom?

And yes, I believe you'll heal.  I do.  Make sure your thyroid and that medication are working as they are supposed to be, as well.  It's important to look at everything now, for you, while healing from WD.  And there are some great topics here, on other medical things too, that do intersect with WD.  We can't really do medical, just more WD related and tapering.

But, you can......seek and find so much here.  Use your main browser, like google and just type in the topic of interest but then include survivingantidepressants.org before you press the search button.  And you'll see.....

I know there is more on dizziness and vertigo here too, but I'll encourage you to search for now.

And look forward, to interacting some more, out here, on the main.  I love watching, and then reading the updates of healing......from AD WD.  And live for the day, when it becomes a thing of the past.......that less prescribing happens, that more who prescribe learn how to safely deprescribe, and that everyone gets what they need for help and support, in their own locations, and on the ground.

Meantime......I think we all soldier on.

Best, Love, peace, healing, and growth,

Thank you Many for responding🙏🏻💖. I PMd because I did put my concern on the open forum and didn’t get much feedback. That’s why I got so worried, not only that this dizziness has been such a demon of WD for me, but also because it made me think no one else could relate, thus very little feedback 😞I read all the threads in the dizziness, vertigo heading and only one member seemed to suffer as long as I have but no progress updates from them, Squirrel.

I have discontinued Acylovir probably 2 months ago and recent thyroid check was good. BTW, couldn’t figure out how to update my signature??

Thanks also for the technical hunts, google and the @ thing. That’s very helpful.

Pretty significant anxiety has crept up as of late; makes sense, I’m scared!!!Thank you for saying I will still heal. Reading that helps heaps.

Anxiety can be fierce sometimes, beyond what many of us had naturally.  And even though you are 2 years out now, it will come in waves.

There's lot's to help online too, if you like self study, and Video's or audios:

We strongly encourage members to learn and use non drug coping techniques to help get through tough times.

Understanding what is happening helps us to not get caught up with the second fear, or fear of the fear.  This happens when we experience sensations in our body and because we don't understand them we are scared of them and then start to panic.

This document has a diagram of the body explaining what happens in the body when we become anxious:

AAF: Acknowledge, Accept, Float.  It's what you have to do when nothing else works, and can be a very powerful tool in coping with anxiety.  The neuroemotional anxiety many of us feel during WD is directly caused by the drugs and their chemical reactions in the brain.  Making it so there is nothing we can do about them.  They won't respond to other drugs, relaxation techniques and the like.  They do, however, react very well to being ignored.  That's the concept behind AAF.  Acknowledge, get to know the feeling involved, explore them.  Accept, These feelings are a part of you and they aren't going anywhere fast. Float, let the feeling float off as you get on with your life as best as you can.  It's a well documented fact that the more you feed in to anxiety the worse it gets.  What starts as generalized neuroemotinal anxiety can be easily blown into a full fledged panic attack just by thinking about it.

I often liken it to an unwanted house guest.  At first you talk to them, have conversations, communicate with them.  After a while you figure out that they aren't leaving and there is nothing you can do to get rid of them.  So you go on about your day, working around them until they get bored and leave.

It can take some practice, but AAF really does work.  I hope you give it a try.

And then this topic:  Acceptance

Just click on the underlined stuff, as that's a hyperlink, and it will take you right to it.

And then sometimes, it's just a hug, or even an acknowledgement that helps so much.  (((((Patti2057 ))))))

I always could find pleasant topics here, early on, and often took breaks from trying to push through my WD, any faster than needed.  I'm glad you've scoured the topics on dizziness, as well.  Something good will give soon Patti2057.  And we have a good time here sometimes, it's a nice community to draw on, and be part of.

Sweet dreams tonight, and no more fear.  You can do this!

Hello, @Patti2057

Did you ever try fish oil and magnesium? I see Gridley mentioned them way back in the beginning. See

You might try a little bit of one at a time to see how it affects you.

Thanks Alto. I have tried both Omega 3 and Magnesium Glycinate. I gave them about a 3 month trial and noticed no difference at all.

Nardil 1985-1988
Paxil ?-1998

Effexor150  1998-November 2018

Bupoprion150 2002-November 2018

Fluoxetine approximately 1/4 mg trial for WD symptoms December 2020. Took for 3 days but  it seemed to compound the dizziness significantly so I had to discontinue the trial.

Current Medications: Levothyroxine, Acyclovir
