Thanks for this post. Needed the inspiration and hope today. It's a long brutal journey and I can't wait to write my own success story! Thanks!

Took Accutane in 2007 at age 19 and a severe reaction to it threw me into Psychiatry's dirty hands. Suffered through a number of c/t's, rapid tapers, drug switches, reinstatements before finally figuring out what was happening to me in 2012 after checking out of psych hospital with a prescription for Ativan and Prozac. (Went in because was unknowingly in Xanax c/t wd and dying at the time from it).

May 2016 - Last dose of Valium after 2 year long taper from 15mg

June 2017- Last dose of the corticosteroid Hydrocortisone after taper

July 2019- Last dose of Prozac after 2 year long taper from 30mg

Was on Accutane, Lexapro, Celexa, Xanax, Ativan, Prozac, Hydrocorisone, Valium, and thyroid meds when none of them were needed. Still recovering to this day and hope to be healed in the coming months, but taking it one day at a time.

I have found a wonderful doctor and he is all about my plant life and healing and he is all about me living my best life drug free.

that  is fantastic!! I still haven't found a dr who is on my side in this regards, so I just stay away from drs in general, I'm so glad you were able to find one

I was on so many meds for so long,  I find most drs get very uncomfortable around me.

But that's ok, I think they need to feel a bit uncomfortable and they need to THINK about how they throw pills at ppl for every little thing.

I got off all meds and reversed multiple health conditions with a whole foods plant based diet and other lifestyle changes.

I could have done this years, no decades sooner, If I'd only known..

but anyway, I'm here now, fully recovered like you and I try not to take this good life for granted.

it's wonderful to be on "the other side" :)

so glad you made it, thanks for sharing your story

@MrAnxious  Thank you for your upbeat post.  Can you say how old you are or how long it took from the time you stopped taking the last anti-depressant until you started feeling good again?  It sounds like you are in a positive place now.  Totally happy to hear that.

Started Celexa as a sophmore in high school around 2014/2015

I think I took Vyvance 2016/2017

Increased Celexa to 40 mg by 2018

Began to taper Celexa on 12/29/19, cut 1/4 of the 40 mg per week

Last dose of Celexa on 1/19/20

Reinstated 1 mg liquid Celexa in March 2020

Currently still taking 1 mg liquid Celexa

Amazing story!!!! Glad you are doing so well! All the best to you!!!!

I follow The Plant Paradox lifestyle by Dr.Gundry. This lifestyle has given me my life back and I feel better than I have ever felt in my life. It has enabled me to finally get off of this medication and truly live my life. Nutrition is the key to health!!!!!

2008 to 2019  - 20 mg Paroxetine

Attempted 2 CT's around the 5-6 year mark. Were absolutely terrible and reinstated. Was never explained by the doctor the seriousness of the short half life of this drug.

2017 - Attempted a tapered discontinuation of this drug and reinstated after being unsuccessful.

2019 - Feb. 12 - After a three month taper I am off of paroxetine. The 3 months were terrible, awful withdrawal feelings. I followed the doctors guidelines for the reduction of this drug and now know it was way too fast.
2019 - Oct. 12 - 8 months off paroxetine. 75% improvement since coming off the drug. Definitely have had tons of challenges along the way. Let’s go!!!!

2021 - Feb. 12 - 24 months off paroxetine. I have minor challenges now. Tinnitus/Headaches are still around but are reduced by a massive amount.

Hi! How have you been? Boy let me just say...a little after my previous message, I didn't know the following period was going to be the gravest time for my health.  I almost didn't make it but glad I am alive to see 2020 around the corner.  The mishap happened because a doctor thought the supplement glutathione would be a good solution for the remainder of my cognitive symptoms.  It somehow became poison for my body and my body was so fragile that I almost didn't survive the reaction it caused.  It caused my blood to unclot itself and more damage was done when doctors tried to undo it with more drugs and supplements.  Anyhoo, I hope you are doing well with your healing and you have made some progressive changes in life.☺️

Update :

Hello fellow SA survivors, I thought I would write an update on my life and my situation.

So much has changed and so much has improved. Yes I have been off all Pharma drugs 6+ years now !!!!!

Amazing as I thought in the midst of the WD chaos I truly would never escape. Here I am now 😊

Time heals all~Only if you do the neccessary side work to help the process. Do one little thing everyday to help your body(food) and your mind(meditate) or be around good people that support you !

This journey is more than we think. Maybe our life before the drugs has issues or maybe we did.

I look at life as everything happens for a reason and what did I learn from this life altering 15+ years during meds and life after meds.

Truly astonishing, what we all have went through. Put some music on and walk each day and reflect on what your learning about yourself, write it down and celebrate the small victories, eventually they become the big things.

*My only issue/struggle right now is my memory. I still feel like I have a hard time putting the words I want to say together because some of my vocab has been deleted from my brain or hidden*

If anyone has any suggestions for how to deal with this, a relating story or some help that would be greatly appreciated as it does cause me anxiety in social situations.

All in all I am living, working and living the best way I can.

Much love and success to you all, it will happen, just give it time and make the best in the meantime.

Hi Mr A.

You said you still struggle with word recall and constructing sentences. It’s my worst symptom. Although this symptom is still issue for yourself, I presume your ability to socially interact and talk has improved as you’ve recovered? I hope so. It’s a symptom that really fills me with fear. My mouth had always been my strongest asset but the reality is it’s probably my weakest atm.

OCT 2016 -  I quit Sertraline 50 mg CT after a family bereavement  had turned my life upside down ..  as a result it felt the drug was totally ineffective.

MAY 2017-  After what had been an appalling 6 months (which i thought was horrific grief but now realise it is likely withdrawal is the more likely culprit)  I reinstated Sertraline at 50 mg before raising the dose to 100 mg due to not feeling any effect (again this is something that makes sense now). In time i had started to feel normal again and presumed it was because I had worked my way through my prolonged grief.

FEB 2019 -  Life was now back on track and decided it was time to try and rid myself of the shameful daily pill pop that is AD's. I quit Sertraline Via a fast taper... but may aswell have been a CT.

JUN 2019 -  I found SA . .. realised i was withdrawing .. and had inadvertently made multiple mistakes along the way.

NOV 2019 - I'm roughly 8-9 months into withdrawal & STRUGGLING

Hey Kimbo,

I used to be the same way, language was no problem. I do struggle with social interaction now, as I am limited with the words just not being there to retrieve. Almost like they just went away and I am left with the low vocab. Almost like I know just enough to get by. I know the drugs affected this recall big time. After withdrawal is over you are kinda left like okay I have this, now how can I improve. But it's tough and my biggest struggle atm.

@MrAnxious  Congratulation on being drug free.  Thank You, Thank You, for coming back and letting us know it can be done.

As we read other people experiences, some that have been fighting a long time, drop off and we never now if they were able to achieve there goals getting off.  It helps so much for me to see others  have succeed, or are so close and still fighting on, to give support and encouragement to us that maybe are just starting out and are scared and lost.

Thanks again

@MrAnxious  Congratulation on being drug free.  Thank You, Thank You, for coming back and letting us know it can be done.

As we read other people experiences, some that have been fighting a long time, drop off and we never now if they were able to achieve there goals getting off.  It helps so much for me to see others  have succeed, or are so close and still fighting on, to give support and encouragement to us that maybe are just starting out and are scared and lost.

Thanks again

Sounds like it could have ben a plan before WD.  Now I can hardly have a conversation with my family and friends.  I have a little social anxiety right now.  Carrying on conversations is a stretch for me right now.  I can get over stimulated and then my brain starts buzzing and tingling and what ever else it decides to do a the time.  It is slowly getting better. I can hardly go to a store, to much going on makes me frazzled.  😬 I will follow you on here for now and lean on you once in awhile🙃

Hey everyone !

How is everyone doing ? It's been awhile since I've been in here but I have never forgot about anyone of you. Definitely will help anyone looking for help, let me know. Things have gotten better but the mark of psych drugs will always be there, but I have never went back since my last pills. Now I'm almost 40 and looking back it's been quite the ride, fortunately I am still alive. Message me with anything, love you all !

Hi Peacenlove,

Yes, I had tons of them for a good long while. So I went on Buspar and it really slowed them down and let me deal with the withdrawal, then I weaned off Buspar 1-1.5 yrs later which was much easier. Those thoughts were torturous.

I can relate, I feel like everything happens for a reason, and I am a better person having gone through what I’ve gone through. It has made my faith so much stronger. So in the long run, I’m thankful for what I’ve been through!

unfortunately I’m an adverse reaction so me adding any more drugs to help is out the window lol. But I’m glad that worked for you & eventually they went away. Thanks so much for responding

8 years Big Pharma free 👋👋👋🙏

What a ride, what a journey ! Where has the time gone ? If you worried about tapering and how long it's going to take 1-3 years+ for some. DON'T ! You are here for a reason and some things needed change, YOUR UNIQUE 🙂 This road is not easy and will challenge you a million ways to Sunday but guess what...You're escaping what has been holding you down 👇 and what a liberating feeling it is getting your mind back ! Yes I have struggles like anyone else but with my faith and tool kit I can now deal with them. Life is not perfect, nor do I need it to be. It takes time and trust me when I say that time flies and you'll look back and be proud of what you've (and my Lord) have accomplished together 💙 🙏 Stay strong, take it slow, don't rush, and wait it out ! So many obstacles will try to throw you off course but look forward and press on. Don't be fooled by "others" advice (wink wink) thinking they know what's best, be your own advocate and go on and save your life 🌈 its at the other side
