Hi @NNhope

How are you?

Really sorry for the late reply. I’ve been quite under the weather lately.

So the side effect I have/had (some of them already passed , some come and go)

Weight gain (honestly this bothers me the least), cognitive decline ( this one really freaks me out), fragile skin, hair pulling, mouth ulcers ( I’ve never had them before), acne, dizziness, confusion ( sometimes better sometimes worse) balancing issues, short temper ( I’ve got two small kids and they literally finish my patience in no time), sleep problems, difficulty concentrating and memory issues, completely lack of joy, emotional numbness, no thoughts in my head either, difficulty socialising and chatting, deep depression, suicidal thoughts on a daily basis, burning brain and spine sensation (this one is really horrible, comes and goes) all body nerve pain ( I dont have it at the moment), personality change

And the joke is when they give it to me the only thing they said ‘ yes you might feel sleepy and put on weight’

So yes I started cutting more than recommended which is really risky I know. I have panic attacks, anxiety,  sleep problems, shortness of breath. I take a beta blocker for the panic attacks which is a lot safer than a benzo. Recently I re-started meditating and palm healing which helps me a lot.

How did you manage to CT 15mg Olanzapine? When I tried to cut 50% I was all over the place.

My psychiatrist wants to take me off CT and put me on antidepressant but I’m not gonna do it. And she said  antipsychotics are not addictive and you don’t have withdrawal from it. Right. We all know it.

@Emily02I'm sorry you have so many symptoms. I hope things get better for you soon. Good on you for not switching to AD. From what I've gathered so far, AD is just as bad withdrawal wise and switching drugs usually hurt more then it help.

When I CT the 15 MG I didn't notice much right away in symptoms, 3 month later I crash and landed in the psych ward and back on 10 MG. I didn't realize it was withdrawal and that I felt better because they put me back on it until recently when I tried to CT 10mg. This time it was much harder and by the 4th day off I had crazy anxiety and restlessness, so I went back on 10mg for a day then 5 MG until now. It took 3 weeks for the restlessness to calm down enough to stop me from pacing constantly.

The constant worrying about still being on it and lack of enjoyment of anything is a real bummer.

I am I think stable now, but really scared to start tapering, because I don't want the restlessness to come back. Will wait another month I think.

Thanks NNhope, it’s really nice of you.

Yes, lots of people got damaged. committed a crime or suicide because of ADs. And they just give it to you as it was candy. Even when my GP wanted me to take it because it helps so many people. They don’t even mention any non drug techniques to fight depression or lifestyle changes. Right there are lucky people who get benefit from them and then they can just stop it anytime. I have two friends who took it and they were fine but how about others who are not so fortunate. And all they say is there are side effects but they’re usually well tolerated or the withdrawal is flu like symptoms. And then you think, hmm it doesn’t sound very bad maybe let’s give it a go.

Yes that’s the problem with withdrawals that you don’t get them immediately and you think you’re doing fine until you don’t.

But it’s really good that you lowered it to 5mg. When the doctor reduced my dose from 5 to 2,5 I was sooo anxious and 6 weeks later I had a crash too and I was put back on 5.

Do you mind if I ask why we’re you put on it originally?

I was put on it because I drank a lot of cough syrup that had Tylenol in it and went to hospital and they sent me to the psych ward.

Thank you everyone for posting regarding your Olanzapine withdrawal.  I am in a similar place, having cross-titrated from Olanzapine to Latuda very quickly at the advice of a psychiatrist and now getting uneven sleep.  I am hoping at some point to live antipsychotic free.

NNhope, I hate to say it, but three months is a long time for withdrawal to materialize.  It could be something else.

Previously: Lithium (incorrectly diagnosed bipolar although I never had a manic or hypomanic episode)(taken during summer/fall 2020); Olanzapine (taken from late spring 2020 until late December 2020); Abilify (briefly for a couple of weeks in 2016, caused akethesia); Risperidone (2014-2016); Fluoxetine (two weeks in 2020); various sleep aids, e.g., Ativan, trazadone, mirtazapine and other antihistaminics (winter through summer of 2021).  I don't remember most of the dosages and am leaving them blank.

Currently: Latuda (40mg) (hoping to taper).

Other: I do not smoke, do not drink, have only one cup of coffee in the morning, and don't use anything else.  I exercise 3-4 times per week and watch my diet.

I would love to hear from anyone who has tapered off of or is currently tapering Zyprexa olanzapine using custom dose capsules from a compounding pharmacy. Thank you!

Hi, Desiderata

I try to follow as much as I can in this website, cause my son is still struggling tapering first from  zyprexa  and now Risperidone. When he was taking zyprexa from 15mg to 0.25mg ,we used compounding pharmacy as we got to lower doses. The psychiatrist  advised the pharmacy when to taper to the new dose and that is how he got to that low dose. but his body didn' t handle the speed and crashed at the end and went back to psych.ward. Now he is on risperidone.

So, my advice is listen to your body when to taper and reduce very small, less than 10% , maybe ten to twelve weeks wait.

that is my two cents.

Hi,

This is Tyson. I'm not sure if I'm doing this in the right place. But I'm doing this cause I thought I don't have a file here.

I was trying to get some help from members with my son's withdrawal, but it's been lost somewhere. So, I thought maybe I should

put my intro. and then that might help.

My son started Respiradol 3mg took that for three month and dropped it. Then Abilify 5mg for six month and due to his restlesnes, stopped by his doc.

then got ordered to take zyprexa 15mg. He took zyprexa for five years but lowering with the help of doc and compounding pharmacy. he is now on 1.25mg. but

things are getting tough. no nutrition guide or supplements.

Thank you for responding to my post Tyson! I’m sorry to hear your son has not yet been able to successfully taper his meds. I am so nervous about tapering and it seems like few people use a compounding pharmacy to make custom capsules so I’m especially interested in people’s experience with that. I wish both you and your son the best. Thanks again, D

Hi hayduke

thanks for checking on me :)

sorry I haven’t been online for a veery long time.

so finally I managed to get off Olanzapine about 8 months ago, it wasn’t easy at all, still not feeling  great so I was focusing on healing but a bit better than I used to be.

im drug free at the moment but very hard because of anxiety and depression

trying different things but I haven’t had a real breakthrough yet

how are you? Are you happy and healed?

Wow!  Well done!

Been off for around 9 months over here.

While it's been challenging, still is, I think that's fairly safe to mostly lay at the feet of this tumultuous period of social history.

Still dealing with a sensitised nervous system, but it's all heading in the right direction.  Very glad I was thorough with my tapering.  Slow, but you know, if I could have got away with going much faster I would have 😉

I don't even think about it too much most days now.  And damn it's nice to have my wits back in full.  I think a lot of that has been the payoff from therapy and setting healthy boundaries, too.
