Thank you for the crossed fingers, @Rosetta!  I still have a headache today, unfortunately.  I hope you are doing ok.

Can you tolerate ibuprophen?  I can.  It doesn't to work for the menstrual headaches, but it does for the others.

Hi @Rosetta - I can tolerate Ibuprofen which I did take yesterday and it helped a little bit.  I am trying not to take anything today and so far it has been ok so hopefully that means this will pass soon.  I was happy to read you had a better day today!

Thank you.  It's nice to have a break from rampant anxiety.

There's a trick I learned for headaches -- put your feet in very warm or hot water and put a cold pack or bag of peas on the back of your neck.  This is to pull blood out of your capillaries in your head.  Some headaches are caused by blood pressing on nerves when there is too much blood trapped in your head.  Why does it get trapped?  Tension in the neck, I think.

Thanks for stopping by @Rabe - it is very sweet of you to think about me.  I am muddling along....no change in my symptoms.  It appears the switch to all liquid has been successful so that is a relief!  I hope you are doing ok.

Hi wantrelief,

I was so glad to hear that your switch to liquids went well. How are your headaches? Have they subsided a bit? I’m not a headachy person so when I get them I know something is up. Withdrawals can certainly cause a myriad of problems.

Sending you hugs🤗

Thank you for your message, @Carmie....the headache you are referring to did go away, thankfully.

I wanted to post an update that I dropped last night to 19.75 mg.  It feels good to get under 20 mg. If all goes ok with this drop, I'll do another 2.5% drop in 2 weeks.

All of my symptoms remain the same so not much to say really.  Everyday is a struggle and I still feel quite a bit of fear with this process, how it will go tapering whilst feeling this way. I don't really feel I have a choice, however, as I believe my body has had enough of this drug.

I am in awe of the strength and courage of everyone here.

Hello SA friends,

Well, I've hit a bit of a snag in my tapering.  I seem to now have a constant headache which I can only attribute to withdrawal.  In the past in previous tapering attempts, the same thing would happen....I would ultimately updose and that would solve the problem.  I can't do that as this drug is no longer working for me so have no choice but to work with the pain.  I was supposed to make a cut tomorrow but am going to hold off and see if this headache will go away.  If it doesn't, I am not sure what I'll do but may have to taper with a headache on board.

I believe I become quite anxious when I get headaches as I had a constant headache for 7 years.  The headache started when I was in my mid-twenties.  After many visits to neurologists (several medications tried) and alternative practitioners, nothing helped.  I learned to live with the pain and ultimately it finally went away on its own.  I wonder if when I get a headache now, I panic because of that experience.  I am trying hard not to take anything for it so that I can get used to the pain.

I am feeling quite despondent with this latest hurdle as I am still on quite a high dose....just not sure how this is ever going to happen and I am still feeling unwell with all of the other symptoms I am having.

Love to you all.

Hi, WR,

Sorry you have hit this little snag in your taper.  When you say "constant" what do you mean?  Is it there all the time or much of the time?  Does anything provide you with relief?  When you say you are holding off to see if it will go away, what are you doing that might change things so that it is likely to go away?

Pain is a very difficult thing to deal with and it carries strong associations.  To the extent you have anxiety that is driven by the pain, that can create a vicious cycle of fear, pain, increased fear, more pain, etc.  Learning how to break the fear/pain cycle is difficult but I suspect that the underlying stress and anxiety was the source of the problem during your 7 year struggle with the pain.  The good news is that you overcame it back then and you will be able to do it again.

I have found the following site and related app very helpful in dealing with pain issues:

www.curablehealth.com

Spend some time there and see if it might look like it resonates with you.

This is going to pass.  Try not to let it get you too down.

Best,

Andy

Hi wantrelief

hopefully apace41 has given you some good advice and the link to the website will help. I know you are frightened of what is to come but you have been so strong and supportive of everyone.  This might not be the same thing again it could just be a blip along the way and nothing like the previous time. You will get through this my friend.

Big hugs

Constant means the pain is there all of the time.  I haven't noticed anything that helps with the pain except maybe distraction at times.  In terms of changing things, I just started increasing my 4-7-8 breathing practice but that is more to help with the anxiety that is accompanying the pain.  The other thing I am doing that is different is not running to take Ibuprofen or a prescribed medication I have for headaches (Maxalt) which I have done in the past.  I am trying to "be ok" with the pain if that makes sense instead of trying to make it go away.   I am considering restarting acupuncture.

So true that pain carries strong associations and it is indeed a vicious cycle.  It is possible that underlying stress and anxiety was the source of the problem in the past....interestingly I never really felt anxious at that time like I do now or at least not as physically.  I feel like my coping skills were stronger in those days being younger and not having gone through as much as I have for the last 10 years or so.

Hi again @apace41 - I forgot to mention I continue to utilize mindfulness, meditation and will be checking in with my CBT/DBT therapists to see if they have any suggestions.  I am finding it hard to rally to do those things but realize I must.

Hi wantrelief...I ams so sorry about the headache and what it is bringing with it!

Do you think it would help at all to drop less?  And if does perhaps you could then drop more frequently?  It is hard to function with an awful headache.  Please know that I am thinking about you, sending hugs, and so hoping this will pass.  It alone would be tiring...it is a long wearing journey but I look at how far you have come and am truly inspired!!  Yearn for us to be free!!  Soon!!!💜

Hi @wantrelief: just want to put it out there that (as we are in the same town) that the heavy smoke last week effected people with more headaches. I've had a wicked heavy headache the last 4-5 days and hear what you are saying. Taking ibuprofen but it doesn't seem to help much. I wonder if in WD the barometric pressure and smoke effects us even more. Anyways, hoping you feel better soon.

Thanks for your message @FarmGirlWorks.  I am sorry you too have had problems with a headache the last few days.  It is possible the pain is due to barometric pressure changes and smoke.  I have had so many headaches from withdrawal in the past I automatically think that is what the cause is but you are right, there are other possibilities.  I guess only time will tell.  I really hope you feel better soon too, my friend.

Oh I don't have any idea what the cause is!

But you are exactly right that there may be other possibilities too.  It's so hard to tease out what it is caused by. * Just drank two glasses of water to hydrate as headaches are increased by dehydration and did a short YouTube kundalini set for headaches. Hope it helps. Take care!!!

Hi wantrelief, thanks for dropping by my thread. How are u doing? Are u still getting headaches? That must be horrible.

I’m not a headachy person in general but with withdrawals u can get a million different symptoms, ones that u wouldn’t normally get. So far I’ve only had an occasional headache.

Wishing u a happy day☀️☀️☀️

Thanks for your message @Carmie and for inquiring about my headache.  Unfortunately the headache is still there.  I had some major dental work a few days ago and as a result am taking Ibuprofen for that - the Ibuprofen is masking the head pain for now but I can still feel it there.  I am working on my reaction to pain utilizing DBT and CBT skills as I think it is my reaction to pain that I can change.  I know in the past tapering has caused a headache so I need to learn how to be ok with that as I want to continue on this path.
