-Tried several times to slowly taper Zoloft by 10%, then 5% every 4-6 weeks; could never get below approx. 40 mg - spring 2012 experienced major WD symptoms due to stress; tried to updose but no relief, back on Klonopin 1 mg.

You are right ‘in the moment’ it’s virtually impossible to believe we will heal but having your encouragement and experience of identical symptoms gives me so much hope.  You are doing a wonderful job

Thanks so much for responding.  Those are pretty much the same symptoms I'm having right now.  I had quit SSRI's CT 2 times before and the symptoms were much more intense at those times than I have now so I am hoping that doing the taper this time will be gentler I just hate the idea of how long it will take to get to 0 and then wait out the healing.

Have you noticed an increase in symptoms as you have gone down in dose at all?  Or has it just been the same bad stuff the whole time?

I wish you the best of luck and hope it all gets better for you!

I am really sorry you are experiencing the same symptoms.  I know what you mean about the length of time a taper will take.  I am taking it super slow because I am scared of the symptoms worsening with larger cuts.  It is indeed overwhelming how much time it is going to take.  There are folks who feel better, however, as they get further down in their tapers so it might not take getting to 0 to feel better.  I have read that as soon as you start tapering the healing process starts.

I have noticed an increase in symptoms with cuts but I always go back to baseline in time.  I also have had new physical symptoms crop up too but they have not lasted long.  So, yeah, mostly it has been the same bad stuff the whole time.

I wish you the best of luck too, RandyJames.  We have to have hope it will get better for both of us!

Hi wantrelief,

I’m sorry you’re struggling so much. Did you feel any better after the hormones settled? Did they settle?💚

Edited by Carmie

Been on antipsychotics, benzos, antidepressants and painkillers for chronic pain.

Been cold turkeyed and put on and off all sorts of things. Was suicidal n ended up in a psych ward because I had akathisia from withdrawals. Can’t remember what I was put on but when I was released was in the same predicament with severe akathisia n was suicidal again.

Back to the ward and was given different meds. Tapered off one and have been trying to taper off Seroquel since. It’s been many, many years of tapering so far.

I’ve  tapered from 300mg of Seroquel to 7.5mg./ March 10 2019=7.25mg / 17th of April=7 mg / June 5th=6.75mg/ July 14th=6.50mg/ August 28=6.25mg/ 10th of Oct= 6.20mg/ October 21=6mg/ December 16=5.80mg/.   January 21 2020=5.60mg/April 2=5.40g/ May 29=5.20mg/ August 14= 5mg/ September 29=4.80mg/ Jan 31, 2021=4.60 mg/

I AM NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. These are my own views based on what I’ve experienced myself.

I know I need to focus more on the positive and not give in to the fearful thoughts/feelings.

That is so challenging when body and mind are so overwhelmed by all the symptoms.  You always seem so positive WR and sometimes that is hard as well.  You rarely speak about your struggles...I am grateful you are letting that all out occasionally so that we can try to support you in better or more helpful ways perhaps.

You are an inspiration and more...and I feel so honored to call you my friend, WR.  I am so grateful for your support and think about your taper daily knowing you too are in tolerance and dealing with that on top of the tapering.  Take care of you!  Sending love and hugs your way, WR! 💜

1994-2009 benzos from age 20 to 36.  Added Cymbalta 60mg in 2007.

2008-2009 tapered benzos to zero and quit Cymbalta Cold turkey.  WD HELL for two years

2011 started on Lexapro to combat the withdrawal and it worked.

2015 switched to Prozac as Lexapro was not working as well

2017 quit Prozac cold turkey November and crashed into WD.  Reinstated Prozac In December with no benefit.

2018 Switched back to Lexapro in January and it took most of the issues away in around 2-3 weeks

2019 In February Lexapro has pooped out and WD feelings back.  Tolerance WD I'm sure.

March 12th Upped my dose to 30 mgs per doctor's advice to see if Tolerance WD goes away but have had worsening sleep issues with limbs jerking and less sleep.

March 17th dropped back down to 20 mgs and had less limb jerking last night but sleep no better.

           April 20th cut to 18mg.

Thank you @neroli, @Rabe, and @RandyJames for checking-in on me and for all of your support.  I know I have said it before but I could not get through this nerve wracking experience without you all, that is for sure.

I wanted to post an update that I made a 2.5% cut last night so slowly continue to decrease citalopram.  I experience rough patches but for the most part my symptoms have not changed much since starting my taper.  This is reassuring in that I was terrified to even start this taper being in what appears to be tolerance but also hard in that the symptoms I have greatly impact my life and it can get very tiring constantly propping myself up to get through the day.  I am gritting my teeth through this taper in the hope that I can one day finally make it to the other side of this as I so want to be done with these drugs.

As I posted last year at this time, our cherry tree is in full bloom and is gorgeous.  It is fun to watch people stop and appreciate its beauty.  It makes me happy that it makes people happy (not that I had anything to do with the tree being there in the first place).  :)

With love and gratitude, WR.

Yes, I know what you mean - what Shep refers to as battle fatigue.  I hope you can do as much self-care as possible.  And have some wee points in the day at least where there is some relief.  Very hard, my friend.

I actually do get heightened symptoms (what I refer to as "rough patches") but I am not always sure if it is related to the cuts, hormones, or who knows.  But it does seem to go back to the not so good baseline eventually so that I feel like I can continue cutting.

Yes, I know what you mean - what Shep refers to as battle fatigue.  I hope you can do as much self-care as possible.  And have some wee points in the day at least where there is some relief.  Very hard, my friend.

I know, unfortunately, that you know what I mean.....battle fatigue, indeed.  I do tend to feel better in the evenings so can look forward to that time of day as a time where there is usually some relief.

I am wishing you all the very best too, my friend.  I know you've had some rough patches yourself recently and hope very much you've seen some improvements.

Oh thank you so much for this lovely message of support, Neroli.  I really appreciate your well wishes as I am gearing up to make another small cut this Saturday.

Update:  I am documenting that I made another 2.5% drop last night.  I am trying to do what is suggested and look at how far I've come instead of how far I have to go but must admit to feeling overwhelmed at times with how long this is going to take me.  If I was feeling stable it wouldn't matter so much but because I am destabilized and unwell, it is challenging as I just want to feel better like everyone else here.  That being said, I am trying to take it day by day and not think too far ahead as it can just be really daunting otherwise.  Somedays I am more successful at this than others.  I am grateful for being able to make these cuts as I really didn't know if I would be able to when I started this taper.  Hopefully I will be able to continue moving forward even if it is slow.

-1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper; withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD)

-10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin
-Tried several times to slowly taper Zoloft by 10%, then 5% every 4-6 weeks; could never get below approx. 40 mg - spring 2012 experienced major WD symptoms due to stress; tried to updose but no relief, back on Klonopin 1 mg.
-Switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to Citalopram. Finished Zoloft 1/13; Citalopram 35 mg and 1 mg Klonopin.
-8/13: 27 mg Citalopram; 1 mg Klonopin

-11/14: 12.6 Citalopram - began to have bad withdrawal symptoms; out of desperation increased to 1.25 mg Klonopin at the beginning of December.  12/13/14 16 mg Citalopram - going to stay here to try to stabilize; stabilized on 16 mg Citalopram after 4-5 months

-7/15 - 3/16: reduced to 15 mg; ~ 2 months later w/d hit hard (probably r/t stress); 6/16 updosed to 20 mg Citalopram and trying to stabilize. Updosed to 1.5 Klonopin as well. Stabilized on 20 mg Citalopram after 4-5 months

8/17-9/17: feeling withdrawal symptoms at 20 mg Citalopram (due to stress) - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?)  - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).

Supplements: fish oil; magnesium; vitamin D3; curcumin

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg I 2020: 10.89 mg - 7.9 mg

2021: 1/3/21: 7.8 mg (1.27% drop); 1/24/21: 7.7 mg (1.29%); 1/31/21: 7.6 mg (1.17%); 2/7/21: 7.5 mg (1.19%); 2/14/21: 7.4 mg (1.34%); 2/28/21: 7.3 mg (1.25%); 3/7/21: 7.2 mg (1.25%); 3/21/21: 7.1 mg (1.25%); 3/28/21: 7.0 mg (1.25%); 4/25/21 - 5/5/21 : generic clonazepam switch; 5/16/21: 6.9 mg (1.25%)

((Wantrelief)) I'm so glad you are able to use the Slide.  You are doing great.  I know you feel awful, and it seems like a long haul, but you will get there.  My husband says this to me: I'm so proud of you for trying this so that you could see that you are able to do it.  That must help your self-esteem so much.  (He said this about the couch issue.)  And he's right.  I feel more capable.  I hope you do, too.
