DutchMaddy: Maddy from Netherlands protracted withdrawal

DutchMaddy

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody! I am a 63 year old female from the netherlands and in severe protracted withdrawal.

I am drugfree since 29 July 2020.  I stopped my Prozac after 10 years because it did not help anymore and then got 3 other drugs from my Pdoc.

They did not help either and so I tapered everything ( to fast !did not now SA then) with taperingstrips from the dutch Farmacie in the Netherlands, ( the first one to make taperingstrips for people all over the world.

See. www.taperingstrip.nl. The send them to you, any drug you want.

It is so nice that we have those strips but they are a bit expensive. They are trying to get them insured for everybody. It cost around 80 euroś per month.

I did not know that i had to taper 10 % so I did it to fast.

I have been lurking on SA for a long time now everyday. It helped me so much.....

I am so gratefull for Altostrata and all the moderators.

Because of this site i now know that it will pass, this terrible terrible state i am in after 4 months tapering and 3 months off drugs all together.

I have red every successtory over and over again.

It is hard to beleave that I am in this situattion, 1 year off work, at home, anxiety through te roof, depressed, flulike symtoms  grrrrr

Other symtoms i have now in protracted withdrawal

  • anxiety
  • crying spells
  • depersonalisation (feeling detached from your surroundings)
  • depression
  • disturbed sleep
  • fatigue (feeling very weary)
  • Derealization
  • mood swings
  • poor concentration and memory
  • suicidal thoughts.
  •
  • When i was tapering from my last ad i had the following symptoms
  •
  • Dizziness or vertigo
  • electric shock sensations in head
  • flu-like symptoms
  • problems with movement, such as problems with balance or walking, or involuntary movements
  • sensory disturbance, such as smelling something that isn't there
  • stomach cramps and bloating
  • strange dreams

Depression and anxiety

I have a question for the moderators. Can I also count the years after stopping Prozac in 2018 as withdrawal, so theat I am now 2 years in withrawal instead of 3 months since l am drug free?

and, I sometimes take 0,25 alprazolam for sleep because I only sleep for three hours ( wich is not a problem but I am so anxious the next day) I only use them 1 every week for 1 good night sleep

I have no other medication!! Melatonine also helps but only for 3 hours. I also take magnesium 300 and fish oil and vit C

I am so hopeless sometimes, affraid of losing my job.. It is such an unknown syndrome and also in the Netherlands they will reinstate you to fast because thet think it is relapse.

I wish everybody faith and hugs!! especially with Covid 19

Welcome to SA, DutchMaddy.

To give members the best information, we ask them to summarize their medication history in a signature -- drugs, doses, dates, and discontinuations & reinstatements, in the last 12-24 months particularly.  A list format is best.  You'll need to use a computer rather than a phone.

Account Settings – Create or Edit a signature.

Yes, you would count the years after stopping Prozac in 2018 as withdrawal, so that you're 2 years in withdrawal.  Probably you're in the acute phase from the drugs you stopped on July 29, 2020 and the protracted phase from the Prozac.

The symptoms you describe are typical withdrawal symptoms.  So that you have a better idea of what you're experiencing, here is some information on withdrawal and the healing process.

When we take psychiatric medications, the CNS (central nervous system) responds by making changes over the months and years we take the drug(s). When the medication is discontinued, the CNS has to undo all the changes it made. Rebuilding the neurotransmitter production and reactivating the receptor and transporter cells takes time -- during that rebuilding process symptoms occur.

These explain the healing process really well.

We don't recommend a lot of supplements on SA, as many members report being sensitive to them due to our over-reactive nervous systems, but two supplements that we do recommend are magnesium and omega 3 (fish oil). Many people find these to be calming to the nervous system.

Add in one at a time and at a low dose in case you do experience problems. Get supplements that ae single ingredient (not mixed with other types of supplements).

This link contains helpful information, including insomnia and also non-drug coping skills.

Some members have found Melatonin helpful with insomnia.

I don't know how much you're taking.  Too much can cause a paradoxical effect (keep you awake). It's best to start at a very low dosage, such as .25mg, and gradually increase if needed to the lowest effective dose.

We also recommend non-drug coping skills to deal with withdrawal.

Hello Maddy. I see in your signature that you are "AD free since 29 July 2020". How are your protracted withdrawal symptoms now? How are you doing these days?

Edit: we are crossposting in different topics now... how confusing. I hope you don't mind me posting what you wrote in the other topic?

You wrote: "I am doing better. More windows. Not using anything. No supplements no benzo’s or sleeping pills.  Now 7 months off."

That is good news! I am glad for you. Has your sleeping become normal by now? I can see "disturbed sleep" in your list of symptoms is highlighted. It is my main problem now.

2000 Saint John's Wort

2001-2020 Paroxetine 20 mg

Hello @DutchMaddy,

I am glad to read that you are seeing positive changes:)

March 2019: 10mg Citalopram

April 2019: 20mg Citalopram

October/November 2019(sorry, I don't remember the exact date): 10mg of Citalopram without tapering, as suggested by my pharmacist.

March 2020: Started "tapering", taking the 10mg of Citalopram every other day, again, following the recommendations of my pharmacist.

April 2020: Stopped taking Citalopram.

I haven't reinstall since then. I've tried taking Magnesium a couple of times, but I found out it makes me nervous. I only take Paracetemol when the headache becomes unbearable (2gr every couple of weeks or so).

Hi dutchmaddy,

Greetings from the Nijmegen area!

It seems to me that you are doing Better And Better Day by Day.

You have had quite a rough periode the last couple of years.  It must have been pretty hard for you not exactly knowing what your body was doing all the time. I can relate to this. I tapered 0.1 mg citalopram each day for 85 days in a row  (from 25 to 16.5) and crashed. Never really recovered and haven't been the same since. 3 years struggle now.

I checked out the website for tapering strips. Looks interesting and could be quite helpful for a lot of people. I make tapering solutions myself and for my wife. Downside is that you keep messing around with theories and calculations every week to find the perfect scheme......

Are you 8 months off of all medications  now? You will increasingly get better but don't  be surprised  if you get a bad week here and there. I've had perfect days followed by horrendous ones.

I read that you quit caffeine.  I tried this too and it helped  tremendously with my anxiety  but my depression got worse, even after carefully tapering caffeine.  At the moment  I drink about 200 ml coffee per day and don't  have anxiety issues. I did take 800-1000 ml every day so i reduced quite a bit.

I think that you will only get better and better when completely off drugs. I have seen people around me taking one med after the other for decades and they never really cure their mental problems.

You have taken the right decision! Great to hear you are back to work.!

Cheers

Happy healing

Jozeff
