Mmbwdpnz: surviving and mental illness introduction

Hey everyone, I’m new hear but roughly 6 months ago around the start of coronavirus I became struck with severe panic attacks. I was started on a medication called buspar and it was terrible made me have really bad thoughts and emotionless. I quit it under the advice of a very disrespectful doctor who refused to prescribe me a low dose as needed benzo script. Being a good patient and being told it was addictive I went to the ssri’s. Started zoloft in the hospital in terrible shape after eventually recovering from the buspar in 3 weeks. Then all hell began I had an instant adverse reaction and had about 100 symptoms couldn’t even leave bed or feel anything. Started on xanax xr and took it for 6 months think I mostly recovered mentally but can’t be certain. Now I’m in benzo withdrawal and was tapered quickly. But am doing better than during my antidepressant withdrawal. I have been twitching and developed tinnitus since all this began but the recovery has been really slow. I also still am having really bad panic attacks on and off all though improved it’s still not that great. Psychiatrist doesn’t want to prescribe me anymore seretonin type drugs and I agree. But was still recommended Amitriptyline after a dna test done for me by a new gp.  I do not think I will take it but feel kinda stuck. I am getting better though. Could use some stories and advice cause I feel kinda just stuck in between feeling like I need something and don’t. Before all this happened I quit a sleep aid called unisom and caffeine not sure if that played a part in this. I have been drinking caffeine again and it honestly makes me feel kinda better.

Hi Mmbwdpnz and welcome to SA,

To get you started please create your drug signature by following the instructions.  Include ALL drugs/supplements, current AND previous.  Please include the last date you took the drug, state the last dose, and if you cold turkeyed it, please put CT.

Once we have more details about your drug history we will be better able to assist you.

We also need extra information (include summary in signature, details in a post) about your benzo usage.  We need to know the drug name/s, the doses and when you took them, start with a summary and then provide details for the last 2 months please dates and doses.

I will ask one of the benzo mods to check in.

Q:  What are your current symptoms?

Q:  What is/are the worst symptom/s?

Q:  How is your sleep?

Q:  Are you drinking alcohol?

This is your own introduction topic which is the best place to ask questions about your own situation and journal your progress.

And a message from SA's founder Altostrata (there is a link in my signature to a recent podcast interview with her)

One of the things that's very important to each person here is knowing that healing is possible. Please don't just go away when you feel better! "Pay it forward" by updating your Intro topic with your progress

If you are experiencing withdrawal symptoms from a different drug, then taking a new/different drug may not help and it will muddy the waters, especially if you have a bad reaction to it.

Please wait for the benzo mods to check in before taking anything new.

Once we have your drug history (please see ChessieCat's instructions for setting up a signature), we can give you more specific guidance. In the meantime, here are some stories you will like:
