I really feel better.  I sleep 6-7 hours a night.  I can even fall back to sleep if I wake up too early.  I still have 2 problems: impossible to cry and sleep without Seresta.  What really worries me is that I never feel sleep come on until I take seresta.  How long does insomnia usually last?  Are there any studies on the subject?

Hello Bluemoon,

Unfortunately, nobody can predict how long a symptom will last.

There's just too much of unknown about our brain, about these molecules and about healing process.

But what we do know is that people tend to get better as time passes, and that carefull tapers seems to help our CNS to make his repair work :)

I'm glad that you're seeing progress, enjoy those sweet hours of sleep ❤️

I can't tell if it's your case or if it is related to Seresta, but I just wanted to tell you that sleep can often be an issue during pregnancy. I personnaly never had a child, but it seems that a lot of mum around me have had issues with sleep during this special time.

I remember well how much a friend struggled during all her pregnancy with very little sleep whereas she never had insomnia before.

Maybe it will give you some reassurance :)

You're doing great, Take care

Thanks @Erell

I can feel joy, I am motivated, I am making plans for the future but I do not understand why I can’t cry when I have a bad news.
The main problem remains insomnia. I never feel I am falling asleep. Otherwise I am feeling better every day :) I am recovering my concentration. I dot feel dizzy anymore.

Tonight, I took 30mg instead of 32,5mg. I will see if it makes a big difference. Last time I tapered off, I had weird feelings in my head for about 3 days. It was bearable.

I haven't felt a difference between 32.5mg and 30mg yet.  I have a feeling that my condition will be more stable because I was not cutting my tablets evenly enough into quarters.

Please that on December 19, you were at 35 mg of Seresta. So that was not quite a month ago. And now you're at 30 mg. That is a 14.3% reduction.

And just 6 weeks ago, you were at 40 mg, which is a 25% reduction from where you're currently at.

I know you're dealing with other issues and are wanting to decrease this drug due to your pregnancy, but if you do have severe symptoms, especially with insomnia, over the coming days, you may want to do a small updose.

My sleep is better every day when I am at home. My main worries is that I don't feel sleep coming without Seresta.

I ´ll wait a few days and see how I feel. My head is more sensitive. I have weird feelings but it’s bearable.

when I decrease Seresta by 2.5mg, my head is more sensitive for 3 days and then I'm fine.  I didn't see any other problems.  My sleep is even better than before.  I even manage to take my nap sometimes!  for me, it’s a miracle that I can sleep without medication for a few minutes.  I also believe that pregnancy is starting to tire me a lot.  I am less active.  On the other hand, I do feel like I have more energy at night ... but Seresta eases that quickly.

I've been exhausted for about 4 days until noon.  I have to stay in bed.  I wonder if it's pregnancy.  What is good, though, is that even though I fall asleep at midnight and wake up around 4 or 5am, I can at least fall back to sleep 2 hours before noon.  If I try to get up at 5 a.m. I have low blood pressure and faintness.  The gynecologist says it's normal to have low blood pressure when you're pregnant.  But I wonder if it's the withdrawal or the pregnancy that keeps me in bed till noon.  However, in the afternoon I have energy, I go out.

Yesterday I called the doctor, and he said I could take 40mg again but 30mg was already a lot in my condition.  Besides, I'm not even sure 40mg will be enough.  That’s why I’m asking for advice.  It took a long time to sleep yesterday, but I did.  I hope so today.  Besides, I have a busy week.

Hello Bluemoon

I'm really sorry to read about the bad news.

And relieved to read that you feel better today ❤

Have you started to try to learn some non-drugs coping skills ?

A lot of us are here because we learnt to deal with our strong emotions with pills.

On the path of WD and drug free life, we often realise that we need to learn and practice new coping skills to bear and accept our emotions.

Personaly, I'm learning to practice mindfullness, and also self-compassion.

And I've discovered that taking walks in nature is an essential routine in my toolkit.

What are yours ?

No I haven’t. I feel very tired by pregnancy and busy by many changes in my life. I will try when I have time.

This is a good amount of sleep during withdrawal, Bluemoon. In spite of the sad news, you are really doing well with the decreases.

My head is very sensitive, exactly as I decreased Seresta. I have the impression to feel my nerves inside my head. The noise and the act of eating echo in my head. It’s bearable but it’s strange. It’s the 1st time it does it several days after I decreased.

I have been feeling very tired all day. I guess it’s pregnancy. They speak about a new confinement. That would be very bad as I feel a lot better when I can walk, visit people and go shopping.

I had a medical check up yesterday. It appears that by blood pressure is low. It was also low last time. Can it be a symptom of withdrawal ?  Or Seresta ? It started when I took Seresta to stop largactil. It can happen sometimes in pregnancy. But the doctor said we need to look at it carefully. There is no medicine for it :( Otherwise everything is fine.

I am sleeping a lot, from 10pm/12pm till 10pm/11pm. I think it’s pregnancy. I would like to decrease Seresta again... I did it quite quick and I was fine. I feel too tired in the morning. I can’t move till noon. But if i don’t rest, i feel exhausted. It has been like that for a few days. If i don’t rest a lot, my blood pressure is at 9 all day.

My head is feeling weird. Before I had weird feelings only during 3 days after decreasing. Right now I am feeling pressure in the top of my head. Sometimes I have the impression to feel the nerves inside my head. Is it normal ? I am scared not to become normal again. Thoses feelings in my head are awful. Otherwise, except I am very tired, I am fine. I am making plans for the future as much as i can, despite covid into the air. My husband work and I am wondering if I should work again or stay at home to protect the baby and myself from covid after delivery. I am scared to put the baby in a nursery because of covid.

Are you still at 30 mg Seresta, Bluemoon? Do you feel okay to make another reduction or are you still having blood pressure problems? You're sleeping more, which is good.

 Hi Shep,

i am still at 30mg and still at low blood pressure, especially if i cannot rest till noon. I am feeling a lot more tired. I need to rest till noon and several hours in the afternoon. My sleep has been bad for 2 days : 22.30pm-3.30pm and I manage to sleep 2 hours more (6 or 7am - 8 or 9am). I ve had weird head feelings for a few days : pressure, nerves’ feeling, echo. It’s very annoying me daily. Is it because I took Seresta for too long and I cannot bear it anymore ? Should I taper off ? Is it reasonable to taper off ? I know I can sleep more than a few weeks ago because pregnancy is making me more and more tired. But how will i be after delivery ? Able to sleep ?

I don't know when it started.  I have a burning sensation in the esophagus, throat and chest.  I wonder if this is Seresta or the largactil withdrawal.  Where can it come from ?

Hi Bluemoon3,

I wondering if you are experiencing a little bit of reflux at this point, from the pregnancy.  I do recall getting some in the last trimester especially.  I had to prop myself up a bit at night.

I didn't really follow what you meant with your blood pressure changes.  I think you had noted changes in single digit numbers.  Does your doctor have you take your BP at home?  Are the readings low when you go into the office for checks?

You may be experiencing some WD, and then also some of the common late pregnancy common symptoms as well.

Dr. Joseph Glenmullen's withdrawal symptom list

And then, if you would do some of the Notes too, sometimes that can help to make things clearer.  Just note the times on the left, and then on the right, your drug(s), any supplements, symptoms as they occur, and sleep patterns, eating, etc.

And great that you can get some extra rest, on the nights when sleep isn't as good.

And best,

L, P, H, and G,

Bluemoon, how far along are you in your pregnancy? Is this your first baby?

You started to have low blood pressure after you started to take Seresta? What times of day do you take it? When do you have spells of low blood pressure?

Again: Do your symptoms follow any daily pattern?  Please keep daily notes of times of day you take your drugs, their dosages, and your symptoms throughout the day. Post 24 hours of notes at a time in this topic, in a simple list format with time of day on the left and notation (symptom or drug and dosage) on the right. This can show if your symptoms are adverse effects from one of your drugs.

I forgot to write down when it started.  This afternoon is the first time that I don't feel a burn :) it was very strong.

it’s low at home and in the office. Some days it is better. It started with Seresta... The doctor says it’s ok till I don’t go under 9.

I read it but it’s not about neuroleptics I’m afraid.

I did it at the beginning but I stopped. I feel tired and I have many things to prepare. Sleep patterns, eating don’t change much. Symptoms change (burning feeling, tiredness, sensitive head). I write it when I taper off.

Yes it is. Nearly 7 months now. It’s difficult because i don’t know what’s withdrawal what’s pregnancy symptoms.

yes right after I started it. I take it at night, in the afternoon or at the doctor. When it’s low it’s 9. Sometimes it’s 11. I don’t know why it keeps changing. I thought it depends of my tiredness but sometimes I am not tired and it’s low. Doctor said it’s normal in pregnancy.

I know I should but i ve been feeling tired, lazy and busy preparing everything for the baby... Usually I have a daily routine. Only symptoms are changing. Burning feeling disappeard 2 days ago :) I cannot believe it. I feel so much better ! The problem remains feelings in my head. It was very sensitive all day, as if my nerves were touched. It echoes inside my head when I speak. I have to speak very low.

Hi @Shep

Tonight I tapered off Seresta : 27,5mg. My head is becoming more sensitive every day and  I am sure It’s because I took it for too many weeks.
Doctor said I should sleep less because of pregnancy and I am sleeping a lot more, anywhere ! I ´ve been feeling tired all day for one week.  I sleep from 10.30pm/midnight till 10am/11am. Sometimes I fall asleep a couple of hours in the afternoon.

I wonder how I will be after pregnancy. I might need more Seresta as it’s pregnancy that makes me feel so sleepy. Is really bad to drink coffee ?

Covid has changed a lot of our family plans and I need stability for weaning and healing. I guess it’s the same for many people. We did not move where I wanted.

take care

I'm very confused about what you're reporting as symptoms.

1) Seresta (oxazepam) typically makes people tired, sleepy, foggy.

2) Pregnancy can make women tired, sleepy, foggy.

3) Blood pressure changes can be a result of pregnancy.

If pregnancy is making your tired and sleepy, taking oxazepam is going to make this worse.

If your doctors don't know this, you might have a candid talk with them. You may need new doctors.

Do you mean you reduced from 30mg to 27.5mg oxazepam? It is possible you'll sleep fine on a lower dose. Please let us know how you're doing.

I tapered off Seresta of only 2,5mg yesterday night and my sleep was very bad : 11pm-3.30am. And I do not manage to sleep again as usual. What to do... I am feeling nervous and not usually. Should I wait or taking again 30mg ?

I realized that if I get less than 6 hours of sleep it makes me faint.  But since I had an appointment early and was afraid I wouldn't wake up before 11am, I wonder if that's not the cause.  Besides, I have to wake up very early tomorrow and Friday ... I am feeling dizzy even when I am sitting :(
