chairlifting: Tapering advice for Zoloft

Recommended Posts

I've been taking Zoloft for 3 and a half months. I was on 150mg and have begun tapering starting with 100mg 1st week, 50mg 2week, then 0mg as prescribed by my doc.

I'm about to finish week 1 at 100mg and haven't had any noticeable side effects. Does this tapering schedule sound too quick or should I continue where I'm at and go to the 50mg in a few days? I'm very eager to explore alternatives like LSD and psilocybin once I'm off as well or towards the end of the taper.

Welcome, @chairlifting

This site exists because lots of people have found that type of tapering schedule doesn't work for them. We can't predict if you'll be lucky with it.

Withdrawal symptoms can take a while to show up. If I were you, I might stay at 100mg for a couple more weeks to see how it goes. I would definitely make smaller decreases in the next steps. Please see

Hello, I am checking back in with you. I've now been on the 100mg dose for 1 month and have felt great. No brain zaps, crying spells or any side effects other than an occasional headache. Would I have felt any withdrawals by now? Would greatly appreciate any suggestions as to what my next move should be.

It is recommended to taper by reducing your dose by 10% of the current dose every 4 - 6 weeks.  For example, if your current dose is 5 mg, you taper down to 4.5 mg, and stay there for 4-6 weeks.  If your dose is 1.0 mg, you taper down to 0.9 mg.  This explains it in detail.
