I would not take any more than 2.5mg TOTAL  daily.

1.25mg 2 times a day if you feel too many symptoms inbetween the once daily dose.

But 2.0 may be ok, too.  1mg twice  day.

I agree the 5 and 10 were too high and are probably likely to make you feel worse.

The thing you need to remember is consistency over time.

1. Did you take 2.5mgs last night?

2. What did you take so far today?

I took 2.5mg last night and just took 1.25mg so I can take another 1.25mg later tonight at normal time. Then take it in morning and evening tommo?? My idea as I was suffering at moment.

I was just wondering when you see my history whether I'm going up to quick or not? Obviously 5mg and 10mg are too high but I was fine last year and early this year. Possibly fittest I've ever been end of last year into this one. I've just crashed badly over last 6 months. Had other illness and antibiotics and I'm a shell of the person I was.

Just want to get this right so I have a plan. Is 2.5mg a dose where it hopefully won't shock me too high or too low?

Thank you

I think what you did was an excellent plan.

Take another 1.25mg tonight, and stay on that schedule for a few weeks.

Don't worry if the symptoms don't resolve right away.

It will take some time for the body to work out the extra high dosages but you should do better very soon.

The crazy thing is I upped from 0.04mg to 0.045mg and 0.05mg quick and about 5 days after I got ectopic beats so I'm wondering if that's caused those?

I was obviously feeling rough but maybe not the chlomipramine? Was it antibiotics? My heart rate was high so I assumed I needed chlomipramine again.

Can you give me your views on that please. Did I taper too quick over time? Or did I go up too quick again? Can that be a problem? Or am I doing this the right way with 2mg or poss 2.5mg split daily?

How are you feeling today after the 2.5mg dose last night?

It will take a few weeks to stabilize.

Splitting your dose to every 12 hours may help, 1.25mgs twice a day may be gentler.

But consistency is key.

Feel better soon.

Which ever way I go, I like the idea of splitting dose. I'm suffering in day even if it is just an effect of sedation I'm getting at night that's helping me. Just want to feel some kind of normal again. Whether that be from on or off drugs at the moment. I'd take anything. Then stay for a while before tapering as that's furthest from my mind. I'm wondering if 2mg might be an idea. I was on that July 2020.

I think your issue was the anti-biotics.

Your taper may have been too fast as well which is why the illness and anti-biotics made you worse.

I don't think you need to worry about the past taper because these things happen at times with the other medications.

If you were at 2.0mgs last July, that may be a good dose to go back to.

You could take 1.0mg tonight and stick with that.

You have a day to decide, but plan to be on whatever dose you decide is best by Monday morning.

I have to go for now,

I'll check back in on you tomorrow!

Thank you very much.

I know you will see this tomorrow but..

So I shouldn't get hung up about when I was on what when tapering and jumping back on at whatever time? 2mg is a good place regardless of when it was or how long ago? I get so confused when I read that I need to be on last best dose or some go back on pills so I'm never sure if I'm going right direction. Im just wanting a dose I can get to a decent state of mind and body again for the foreseeable future. One that will give me enough dose but not too much to shock my system. If that makes sense. Thats why I was asking to look at my history.

I appreciate what you have done today. Im definitely going to split dose.

And that is why I think 1.mg two times a day is good.

Because there is such a gap in your history so we really dont know when your last stable dose was.

So going back to 1 year ago should be ok and not too much.

Then you can stabilize for the winter and start a proper taper in 6 months in the spring.

I did go down over long periods from 200 to 150 and very gradual. Even down to 10mg and took it slow. It was over many years. Didnt go from 200 to 10 or 20 or anything like that. Possibly wasn't the way people on here would advise but it was slow over time.

Last July 2020 it is then. So about 15 months back. Split between 1mg in morn and 1mg at night.

Thank you and enjoy your day. Very grateful to you.

I'm just so worried when I hear about not being able to get back to how you were as drugs not working and I'm petrified being like this forever. That's my biggest worry.

Hi are you there? Hope you are well.

I've done some investigation. It must have been Jan 2019 I was on 1mg. I know as my diary dated 26th July 2020 has a note in it on my online records in an email to myself saying Jan 1mg. So it must have been 2019 as it cant have been 2020 its impossible.

I think my issue is the antibiotics.

Now I know this is a lot to take in but I think I tapered very slowly. I just don't have records and get confused.

My heart palpations started a few days after when I went up from 0.04 to 0.045 and 0.5 in a couple of days on 5th September just gone.i got immediate sedation effect so thought it was a great idea and obviously the cause. Then they have got worse. I have been upping and upping to get that immediate relief effect of sedation but days after I'm feeling worse and more skipped beats. Is it possible that I was ok and it was nothing to do with chlomipramine and was obviously antibiotics? I have vitamon problems as it was discussed yesterday.

Could it be the upping chlomipramine that is skipping my heart? And it takes a few days to feel the worse effect from the Upped dose? Ie. When I took 0.1 then up to 10mg etc? I'm feeling the worse about 3 days after each time?

Yesterday I got home from hospital and I mis calculated as it was a terrible day and I only took 0.1mg instead of 1mg. This morning I did the same in error as I had a terrible time in hospital and my head got calculation wrong as I just repeated it. I noticed tonight actually. But, I haven't had as many skipped beats today. Yes enough but least I've had for a while.

I think I have done this incredibly slow. I'm convinced that I've gone from 2nd April 2019 on 3.3333mg if you look at my history and not 2020.

Is it possible that I'm taking too much and my heart is skipping beats due to chlomipramine? But the other feelings are from antibiotics?

I've taken the taper very slowly over time I know that.

I've traced back my phone diary and it proves that it cant have been this year on 1mg. Impossible as it says Jan 1mg in a phone record from 2019 so it must have been Jan 2019.

I dont want to get this wrong.

I wish I would have stayed on the 0.04mg at the time as it was obviously the antibiotics making me unwell. I just assumed it was chlomipramine. But the heart palpations have started since I messed about thinking it was chlomipramine.

There is a lot to take in there. Can I ask you please...

whats your opinion?

Also, how long after I've taken a high dose such as 10mg will it not affect me anymore?

I'm trying to work out when I'm affected most as yesterday was worst day so was that from 10mg few days before or the night before dose?

Just hoping you can absorb this as its so important to me.

Hope you are ok.

I've clearly messed this up. I'm sorry I get so confused but I've done this very slowly. I am on too much arnt I? 1mg was Jan 2019 not this year. Crazy I know to miss it but I've got so used to just getting on with cutting into portions and taking less over time that I lost track. I joined this site when I was unable to cut anymore of the capsule with a razor blade and I think I got to 17 parts of 10mg. Then I took it every other day and every 2 days and got ill and realised on this site it was wrong thing so I made water solution daily.

I think I need to reduce or is it too late now as I upped originally on 5th September first time.

Sorry its long but it's all information for full story.

The last I heard from you, you were taking 1mg.

If you believe the palpitations are from going too high, and you are still having negative effects, than you can try dropping from 1mg to 0.5mg.

If you were in the hospital again and they gave you other meds that can delay feeling better.

I can't tell you want may be the issue if your dosing differently from day to day.

No one can know how long it will take to feel better since the 10mgs was a massive shock along with the anti-biotics, which is why it will be hard to tell what any remaining symptoms are from for awhile.

So if you were still taking 1mg, than you can try dropping it in half back to the 0.5 you began taking on Sept. 5th.  Eventually your body will adjust to the dose and the palpitations will resolve.

Hi. I was taking 2mg when we spoke.

1mg in morn and 1 in evening.

Way above what I've been taking for nearly 2 years.

From April this year I'd got down to...

1st april 2021  0.05mg
18th May..0.045mg
26th June..0.04mg

Those dates and those small amounts above, thats not a fast taper is it?

If I had done it slowly up until then.

My issue is that if its all down to antibiotics, then maybe I was going OK with chlomipramine maybe.

If I upped my dose on 5th September this year from 0.04mg and went in an uphill dosing every few days, is it too late to go back down to that or near it? Is a 3 week window too long to erase of going higher or can I still adjust back? In your opinion. Or have I missed the boat? I'm not sure how it works.

I only took high 10mg and 5mg etc for 2 days at a time.

If you could let me know what you think. I wont keep you too long.

Even at 0.5 a day its still over 10x what I was taking until 5th Sept this year.

It's actually 0.05 I was taking and not 0.5.

1st april I started 0.05mg. Is that long enough ago to have stabilised until September?

I haven't had any other drs meds but they are saying I can take a low dose beta blocker that I may cut in half and I don't have to take each day they said (as I wanted one not to get reliant on) but when I feel v bad. Not got them yet. Is that OK? I have taken them in past years ago when on chlomipramine.

If it's only been since the 5th that you up dosed, you can try dropping to 0.06 or 0.07

It hasn't been too long but you shouldn't wait much longer.

Again, it's going to take time to feel better.

Your correct 0.5 is 10 times more, so if you want to drop closer to the original dose try it.

But we can't tell you how long if will take to feel better.

Perhaps 0.06 or 0.07 will help reduce the heart issues.

Last thing. Is it OK to use a beta blocker occaisionally in a very small dose just to see me thru this change? Obviously my decision and won't hold you to it but are u aware as a group of any disruption with this?

I'm thinking of maybe 0.04 twice daily possibility

You have been very helpful I appreciate it very much.

Personally I have no knowledge on beta blockers to give a semi instructional opinion, other than to warn you that ANY other med taken occasionally can either make you worse or prolong feeling better and stabilizing. This is the lesson of the anti-biotics.

People take things here and there and them want to blame reinstating at the wrong dose for not doing well. Other than the magnesium or the omega 3's, I would try to avoid it.

Ah ok that's a shame as it helps with heart palpations.

These antibiotics have messed things up as I was doing OK before. I know I had to kill a bad infection but it's annoying.

I will keep you informed if that's OK.

Thank you so much for tonight.

I think once you lower the dose down closer to what you were at, the palpitations will resolve quite nicely. All doctors know is to keep giving new meds for the side effects of their other mistakes.

Hopefully it will resolve in a few days.

Have a good night.

One thing I forgot and I wont bother u after. You can reply tomorrow if busy.

I did like doing the split of 1 dose in morning and 1 in evening.

Does this cause any problems in future when tapering dow or coming of completely?

If I take 0.05, can I take 0.025 twice a day or because there's a gap and I've never gone as low as 0.025 in one dose, is that a problem?

I wont message again tonight I promise. Just want an idea so I try not to slip up.

If I take 0.05, can I take 0.025 twice a day or because there's a gap and I've never gone as low as 0.025 in one dose, is that a problem?

I wont message again tonight I promise. Just want an idea so I try not to slip up.

Keeping on Splitting it is fine.

If you invest in a good scale if you don't already have one it should not be a problem going lower to 0.01 two times a day. At some point that far down in your taper, you would be jumping off to zero anyway.

Hi. Hope you doing OK.

I have researched and I think I rang my drs in early feb/march this year during the lockdown. I was suffering as it was during the time I was incorrectly cutting my capsules and going so low that I was doing days spacing 1 day off/ 2 days and then 3. Which I thought was the way forward until I contacted this site.

So I must have been taking around 0.2mg in Feb or March this year.

Then I went to...0.1mg between at some time in between.

Tapered down to 1st april 2021  0.05mg
18th May..0.045mg
26th June..0.04mg

Obviously the illness I have had and the antibiotics have been hell but possibly there is so withdrawal in there too from chlomipramine?

I just wanted to give you this information to see what you think. I'm just trying to get this as best I can so I can get on with it without making mistakes.

Hoping you can digest and have a think...

0.2mg     =  0.1mg twice daily? Like feb/march

.1mg     =    0.05mg twice daily like April

Or any lower? Like May/June etc

Palpations started shortly after changing from 0.04mg to 0.05mg in September this year. Coincidence possibly? It wouldn't happen in a few days surely. Maybe back log from weeks months ago? So confused.

Hope you can have a real think so I can just knuckle down on it.

I'm trying to get the best knowledge I can to have the least impact on me and without having to change again.

These are the facts of dates above so I've researched the information back.

If you can let me know and also if you have any idea (I know everyone is different) but how long it takes to get the effects of the higher doses ive been taking lately (to try and correct things), out of my system and brain and settling down from it? I know you don't know exactly as every1 is different but just in your previous knowledge of other people you have seen.

Thank you for this.

Hope you are well today.

Also seems quite odd or coincidence that I felt a bit better Monday by having 0.1mg doses Sunday night Monday morning (still irregular beats but not quite as many) when i calculated incorrectly after being in hospital...

Than I do today by realising and taking 1mg (instead of 0.1mg) dose last night.

It could easily be coincidence but I just don't know.

I really am lost. I don't know whether to backtrack to feb/march/April or go back to September this year when heart beat changed days after upping from 0.04 to 0.05mg.

That's the thing.

In the past when I came off and didn't know what I was doing it took a month to a  few months to feel the effects of being do ill and irregular beats. Was really ill. But this time I've had other issues too. I was at the top of my life last year fitness wise and beginning of this year I know that. But i know there can be a lag with withdrawal and also I've been ill with other issues.

I'm all over the place with this and you are the only one I can confide in. My friends don't get it and I can't tell my dr.

Unfortunately because your records are incomplete and most if this is "maybe-guesswork" I would say just try what we discussed yesterday and see if the heart palpitations resolve after a week.

They may continue after you hit the right dose until your stable for a few weeks.

You need to stop second guessing and obsessing about it all day long the best you can.

PLEASE UPDATE your signature line with what you are taking NOW.

I can't be of assistance going further without your correct dosages in that line.

There's just too many posts of you saying basically the same issue over and over to go back and read through it all to find that one key piece of detail that would be beneficial.

Sometimes less detail is better, try to stick to the actual dosages and symptoms.

Please begin posting your daily dosing and symptom chart every day.

Than we can see if symptoms may be causally dose related

We can't assist they way your currently randomly posting thoughts all day long.

You've made 3 posts in 5 hours and they are random bits of info and questions that don't connect well

HOLD ALL YOUR QUESTIONS  for ONE POST A DAY, and post them after the daily log.

Keep the posts as concise as you can.

The estimate of how long it will take depends on when you stop changing your dose.

The sooner the better.

The time of day, dosage, and severity of symptoms are essential information. Include

- Time and dosage for all drugs taken throughout the day, psychiatric and non-psychiatric.

- Following each dose, note any symptoms. If you are having a reaction to the drug, it may take hours for a symptom to show up -- that's why we ask you to keep notes all day long.

And so forth. A diary, in chronological order, looking something like this:

Example:

I'm really sorry I have ocd and I'm really suffering with this. I understand what I'm like. I have memory problems too and learning difficulties so I know I'm a bit of an unusual case.

I've lost touch with what we agreed I should take now.

I'm so sorry to do this.

I almost did too, from too may posts, it's hard to go back a look through it all

You were going to take 0.5mgs two times a day.

Try that for a week.

Each day post the previous days dosing and symptom log and put any questions at the bottom.

1 post a day with everything all at once, short and concise as possible or I'm going to loose the ability to keep it all straight as well.

Sorry but thanks. I thought we were going nearer to the dose where it all went wrong as you said this....

I will post once daily after. I just thought I was supposed to be doing this as above now.

May I ask you one question please?

In your experience (I know everyone is different circumstances such as length of time on drug etc) but take someone that has been on a drug a long time..

Do you know the sort of time it takes (to realise it was too soon or too much) when someone tapers correctly (ie around 10%) that you would feel negative effects and need to step back to previous dose. How long it takes to be aware?

Just a general question not anything specific to me. Just your average experience in general from people.

That's all I will bother you with tonight!!

I shall be doing a big update of my doses etc on my history when I've had my hospital treatment. Sorry if I repeat things its my condition.

Hope you are well.

If a person tapers correctly they most likely will NOT feel symptoms.

Symptoms are generally from too big of a drop, and-or too many drops too close together.

At the lower dosages, I would recommend 5% every 6 weeks to start.

If you have dropped too much, symptoms will depend on the drug.

Some people feel bad by the 4th day, some it can be 3-7 weeks before it hits them.

Please remember to post your daily drug times and symptom chart notes from the previous day the next day.

Sorry I should have mentioned it was related just to chlomipramine anafranil.
