Melaan: Is it possible to stabilise after an updose for the 2nd time? I still feel bad ...

Hi everyone!

This is my first post 😊

Two days ago I went from 7mg back to 7,5mg after 24 days of bad WD. After two days I still feel much anxiety and a burning brain. In the morning I’ve got sweaty feet and palpitations. Will this go away? I want some relief after those weeks with WD.

Thank you very much for your time!

Enjoy your day

Wednesday I felt OK, especially very tired, but less anxiety. Yesterday I felt more anxiety and had l a burning head again. Also a weird sensation in my muscles in my right arm. But I think the feeling was not as heavy as om Tuesday.

Today I woke up again with sweaty feet and some palpitations. Also my head feels like it’s burning a bit, hope thing will ease down.

I also have Xanax in case I can’t take it anymore, but trying to make it through the day.

Try not to take Xanax, it can cause more problems.

Please keep notes about how you feel each day before and after you take mirtazapine. It will take up to a couple of weeks for the 7.5mg to take full effect. Your withdrawal symptoms may come and go, but should gradually become less intense. If you feel anything unusual, please let us know.

Hi @Altostrata

I try not to take Xanax, till now I can handle it. The symptoms are still there, but think they are less intense. I always write down how I feel. Did it at the beginning of my burnout, November, so can see how things going.

A few weeks before I’m stabilized? Is that for about a month? Or even more? And stabilized means that’s I’m waking up without sweaty feet and anxiety? And feel als ‘me’ during the whole day?

Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate it!

I don't know how long it will take for you to stabilize. We expect very gradual improvement. Please let us know how you're doing.

Taking Xanax or any benzo can lead to taking more of it. If you take it too often, you may become dependent and have additional symptoms such as interdose withdrawal symptoms or rebound insomnia. If you absolutely have to take it, it should be very occasionally.

It's best to avoid taking a benzo altogether, they're more trouble than they're worth, and a gigantic headache for the staff here.

Hello @Altostrata,

I know about the waves and windows. But I did an updose 23 days/3,5 weeks ago from 7 to 7,5 (after holding on 7mg for 23 days).

Today is still very bad. Bad sleep, morning anxiety, palpitations a buzzing and burning head, no appetite. Do I have an adverse reaction? Maybe I take a Xanax this evening so I can get some relief and a good sleep.

I hope thing will improve, I cant take it much longer...

@Altostratasorry! I didnt saw your reaction. Hope you are OK.

I think in June things got a bit better.

Last Wednesday, 7 days ago, I went front 7,5 to 7,2. After 5 days the WD hit again. I went up to 7,5, bc I do not want the same situation as in April and May. Now again try to stabilise.

The GP thinks maybe I’ve got oppositional tolerance. So I have to go sloooooowwwwwer. Maybe by 0,1mg.

I’m also recovering ftom a burn-out, so my CNS is maybe not ready yet for tapering. Maybe I have to stay on it forever.

Best wishes!

@Altostratano I don’t use other drugs. Maybe its because I’m recovering from a burn-out? My CNS was/is affected. When I got sick, I had the same symptoms (agitated, sweating, palpitations etc). I think I must be better and than give it another try?

@Altostratain Holland a burn-out is a stress related illness. My CNS was ‘damaged’. Maybe you call it adrenaline fatigue?

I could not sleep and eat, my whole system was 24/7 full of adrenaline. Same sort of symptoms when you quit an AD.

@Altostratathat was last year Oct 2020. All of a sudden my sleep was bad, could not eat and woke up shaking. At the beginnen I got Oxazepam, Seresta? For max 2 weeks. In Dec my burn-out got worse. I had lost 13kg. I got Xanax for 10 days. After that my sleep didnt improve. So the Doc gave me Mirt 15mg, but I only took 7,5mg.

i did 2 attempts to quit, but things got worse and I became more ill. So stayed on it. At the end of Sept my burn-out got a bit better, so I wanted to give it another try. Bad idea. Feeling sick for 5 days, today is very bad. Hope things get better soon. Maybe I must stay on it forever.

What was going on in Oct 2020 that might have caused this? An emotional upset? Had you taken a benzo or other drug? Perhaps a recreational drug? Alcohol?

From your history, which does not include the earlier benzos, you have been changing your mirtazepine dosage frequently throughout 2021. It may help a lot to let your nervous system settle down on a consistent dose of mirtazapine for some months, then taper off very gradually.

@AltostrataI had a more than fulltime job, 2 studies, very active in church, 3 children and a husbund. Too much to handle. I didnt saw it coming. My system broke down. Didnt drank alcohol. Was in very good healt and also had a good diet. I ran 2 times a week.
Nobody was surprised, cause I was overactive. Never going back to all those things.

The Doc told me juist quit Mirt. That went wrong. I did a second attempt. After that I was on the same dose for almost 6 months. But now I will stay on it for very long. Too afraid.

@Altostrata  since Saturday afternoon things are more manageable. My appetite is back. I still wake up with morning anxiety and anxiety throughout the day, but I had that already by recovering from my burn-out. Maybe things became a bit more sensitive, cause I gave my CNS a boost 😊

First I need to recover from my burn-out. That may take a while. And when I feel ready, I will give it another try. Maybe by -0,1mg per month, I don’t care. Fingers crossed…

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Good to hear, @Melaan Sometimes if people take a vacation from drug changes for a good while, they find resuming tapering to be much easier.
