Sounds like you have done fine with it? Have you had any issues at all with hydrocortisone?

None that I know of.  I never even thought about that.

Please try not to stress over the rash, because the stress and anxiety can worsen the withdrawal symptoms by releasing adrenaline and cortisol. I know, easier said than done.  I'm sorry to hear the infection came back.  Have you ever tried tea tree oil?  It cured up my toenail fungus years ago and it has never come back.  It took a long time, but it did get rid of it completely.  Tea tree is a good natural anti fungal, and antibacterial essential oil.  I believe you could get it at Whole Foods Store, or amazon.

Please do not private message me.  Only tag me for urgent questions about tapering and reinstating - thank you.

How are you doing @atimirt?

Not sure of all dates and times

2008 as a teenager I took Haloperidol, diazepam and citalopram. Weird cocktail of drugs from a WEIRD psychiatrist for no reason. Stopped after 3 days. No WD symptoms.

2015 quetiapine for about a month and then stopped and citalopram for about a week and then stopped. No WD symptoms at all.

2018 15mg mirtazapine. The full dose taken only once or twice. Then 7.5mg as and when required (not every night) for about 3 months. Reduced further to approx 3.25mg and carried on taking them every now and then (anywhere between once a week and every night for a couple of weeks). Never consistently though.

7th Dec 2021 tried to stop taking it completely - cold turkey. Severe insomnia (several 0 hour nights), panic. Had no idea it was WD. Was determined to stop still. Was prescribed lorazepam 1mg before bed. Took it 6 times over 3 weeks for sleep and anxiety, it helped. Discontinued.

20th Dec, 2021 one 25mg tablet of trazadone as advised by GP to manage insomnia - didn't agree with it, stopped. Severe insomnia and anxiety again.

5th Jan, 2021 started 3.25mg mirtazapine again out of desperation due to insomnia. Took it approx every 3-4 days. With a two week period where I took it every day.

09/02/2021 last dose of mirtazapine approx 3.25mg on before stopping cold turkey again. Not coping. Total insomnia, anxiety, panic.

19/02/2021 discovered SA and reinstated 0.5mg and took 2mg lorazepam that same day as in crisis at that point.

06/03/21 took 2mg lorazepam as in crisis again due to insomnia and updosed to 0.75mg mirtazapine

09/05/21 took 2mg lorazepam as in crisis again due to sudden onset of insomnia AGAIN and updosed to 2.5mg. Other WD symptoms under control on 2.5mg, doing well but then BAM sudden onset of insomnia again after about 2 weeks on 2.5mg

27/05/2021 down to 2mg

@Santino — I have read your story many times in the past few years for inspiration. I am really glad to hear that you are better. It gives folks like me hope for recovery so thank you for sharing your journey. Thank you for your encouragement — means a lot! I agree with you regarding the antihistamine effect of mirtazapine lessening as we taper. I have really been beat down by the seasonal allergies this year whereas before I never really had any noticable seasonal symptoms. I have been wearing an N95 outside which helps and also following a quite strict diet.

Recently, I have been tempted to try a 2nd generation antihistamine such as Allegra to alleviate some of these symptoms and cover up the histamine related issues as I taper the rest of this crap. I am very averse to taking medications in general, so to even consider this is bit of a stretch for me. I tried quercetin which didn’t seem to do anything. If I wasn’t tapering this stuff and experienced these symptoms, I would probably take some Allegra for a while so I wonder if doing it now might help and allow me to move forward with the taper. I saw that @ten0275 took Zyrtec for a few months and had to taper off. Honestly, I would rather be on Allegra for a while during the taper if it would help ease that aspect of the withdrawal because it certainly does limit my progress. What do you think about this @Altostrata or @getofflex?

I am pretty much back to my baseline after the downturn, @Marija. My baseline consists of mostly feeling like crap with some days where I feel okay, but my insomnia is much improved and I am not experiencing anxiety very often. I am constantly trying to figure out why I feel so bad, though, and while I have mostly just accepted it as a side effect of the meds, I do wonder about other causes which I am trying to explore to see if I can get some relief. In particular, getting tested for some sleep breathing disorder such as UARS or OSA and planning to see a functional medicine doctor soon. I also started acupuncture and have been working on some breath work. I started a very intense job recently which is very tiring and challenging, but it really helps to keep my mind occupied even if it isn’t functioning 100%.

lorazepam:

3/2018 - 6/2020

tapered from a short course of 1 mg over two years

Stopped June 2020

It sucked, but I did it

Mirtazapine: 4/2018 - current

22.5mg until August 2020 when I began taper using daily liquid taper.

22.5mg->7.5 mg from 8/4/2020 - 12/25/2020 (66%)

7.5mg -> 1.68mg 1/25/2021 - 4/18/2021 (~75%)

Slight updose to 2mg ~5/10/2021

Hi Atimirt

I am happy that apart from all problems you are having, you are still able to start a new intense job and even perform well there. That is a clear sign that you are doing good and please concentrate on your performance as it eases your wd and makes it more bearable.

As fart as Allegra is concerned you have to know that Mirt in itself is a giant antihistaminic. Its antihistaminic properties are more shown in the average dose of 7.5Mg. Basically from your taper schedule in your signature you are currently in a low dose of 2-3mg of Mirt if i am not mistaken. Now what dos an antihistaminic does in general words is that it blocks the histamine receptors so your system does not react toward different triggers of allergy. While you go down with the antihistaminic (Mirt at this case) these receptors get liberated and start to function normally so at this level they are more sensitive to the histamine than before and they provoke these reactions which are manifested with things like stuffed nose, rashes or diarrhea.

Now think it like this.... you have some guys loading a lorry with sacs of wheat flour. As they continue the process they start complaining that they are tired, so you start lowering the sacs (bags) of wheat flower in order to relax them. They still continue to complain time after time. At this stage due to their complain you decide that while they re still loading the lorry with wheat flour in order not to be so tired they can do some rounds of loading the lorry with some sacs of corn flour as well...!!! So if you properly understand my example, the idea is that you have to persevere for a while while your receptors learn to act with less antihistamine in your body. IF you introduce some more antihistaminic in your body you are simply confusing the histamine receptors again...!! Of course in case of a high emergency you can use an antihistamine but not continuously.

If i was you i would stay away of Allegra for the moment. Anyway you can wait for other opinions or you can discuss with a doctor as well.

All the best

Santino

Hi.

I am off Sertraline for 6 months now and in the last two months I have had rashes almost all over my body which I never had before. They are very itchy but putting Aloe Vera helps. Is there anything I can do other than being patient?

2007-2010 Sertraline(200-400 mg) and Fluxetine 80mg for OCD

2010-2015 Changed many doctors and many medicine but it was mostly Sertraline 100mg-200mg and some tranquilizers for sleep

2015-2019 mostly Sertraline lower doses (50mg -100mg) but bunch of other medicine that I do not really remember.

August 2019 -Jan2020 Ecitalopram 10mg

Jan 2020-June 2020 Sertraline 50mg

June 2020-Oct 2020 (Cold Turkey) tried to suddenly stop Sertraline 50mg but had anxiety attacks

Oct 2020- March 2021 Sertraline 75mg

April 2020- Cold Turkey
