Hello Alejandra,

Welcome to this support site. Before we can answer your questions, please give us more information first.

Can you please give us specific information about your drug history for all drugs you are on and have been on, especially for the past 18-24 months?  It would be especially helpful to have the details of your drugs in a concise list (no symptoms), only drug names, specific dates (as best you can say for example early March if you don't recall the day) and dosages of each medication decrease or increase.  Please read the link below for instructions.  This will allow us to give you the best guidance.

How to List Drug History in Signature

What is the reason you switched from prozac to sertraline? Be aware that switching from one to another drug and then switching back again really can upset your central nervous system. This can cause (heavy) withdrawal effects and the wave and windows pattern.

1993    Anafranil (Clomipramine) for a few months. Later in 1993 Paxil for a few months 1993- 2006      No medication

2006   Effexor, Cymbalta, some Benzo’s. All for short periods. Later in 2006 Lexapro (escitalopram) 10 mg and shortly after Wellbutrin XR 150mg, against side effects Lexapro

Since 2006 until end of 2015: Several times on and off Lexapro and Wellbutrin and several slight dosage changes. Mostly taken dosages: 5mg Lexapro and 150mg Wellbutrin

2016  Dosage change Lexapro from 5mg to 2,5 mg. Wellbutrin stayed om 150mg

November 2016 – April 2017 Down from 2,5mg to 0,6mg Lexapro (in steps) without much problems. Wellbutrin down from 150mg to 66mg. Also without much problems.

April 2017 – March 2019       Lexapro 0,6 mg        April 2017 - August 2018       Wellbutrin in small steps down from 66mg in to 37,5 mg . Quite heavy WD after each step.

March 2019 – May 2019 Lexapro down from 0,6 to 0,3mg then Prozac to 0,6 mg switch because severe discontinuation effects (may also have been from Wellbutrin..)

Wellbutrin down from 37,5mg to 35,3mg

October 2019        Seroquel 12,5 mg for 4 weeks because of extreme sleeping problems, then weaning off in 2 weeks       Prozac up dosage to 1,2 mg

March 2020     Wellbutrin in 2 steps down from 35,3mg to 33,3mg   Extreme withdrawal affects during 8 months. Stopped tapering Wellbutrin  until total off Prozac. February 2020 – November 2020   Prozac down in steps from 1,2mg to 0,57mg.

Jan 2021 Prozac down to:  0,55> 0,53>0,51mg,   Feb 0,47mg ,  Mar 0,42mg,   Apr 0,37, longer hold because of WD symptoms July 0,36 and hold again, Sept 19 0,35, Sept 26 0,34mg, Oct 3 0,33mg

Supplements: Fish Oil (3000mg), Magnesium 100 mg, 2 drops of Lavender Oil when feeling anxiety. 50mg of L-Theanine when severe discontinuation effects caused by Wellbutrin

Sorry, I do not want to scare you. But playing around with dosages, going up and down and switching to other meds is often asking for trouble.

What do you want? If you want to follow your psychiatrist that is fine. But here we help people to get off the medication. So please be clear what your purpose is.

If you really want to stop your meds, we can advice you how to. I have ideas how we can help you and I can ask the other moderators what they think. But first make clear what you want and if you are willing to go another direction than your psychiatrist took you up to now.

No worries, I know it wasn't your intention. And yeah, I know I don't have to play with dosages and switching meds that's why I want to go back to fluoxetine as soon as possible, I think my nervous system is very used to fluoxetine after 9 years. .Actually I switched to 2.1 cc/ mL of fluoxetine because I read here 50mg of sertraline/ zoloft are equivalent to 20mg= 5mL of fluoxetine/ prozac and since I was at 25 of zoloft that means 10mg/2.5mL and with that dosage I felt really numb so I decided it was time to decrease to 2.1).

Well, what I (really really really) want (so badly) is stop taking antidepressants, thats how I found this website after the withdrawal symptoms and realize the damage this "meds" do. I absolutely dont want to follow more psychiatrists due to the bad practices as you can tell in my historical (7 cc and then down to 4 cc and then 0).

I'm thinking in supplement the process with Magnesium, zinc, Ashwagandha, GABA, L-theanine, and Black pepper extract.

I really really appreciate your willingness to help me! Thank you very much :D

Hi Alejandra,

Could you please list your drughistory in your signature. So that all members can easily see it whenever they have contact we you.

https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/topic/18343-please-summarize-your-withdrawal-history-in-your-signature/

Given the fact that you took Prozac for 9 years and Sertaline for only 1 month I think it might better that you go back to Prozac. However I do not like the idea of switching and going back. But I think going back to Prozac is safer that staying on sertraline.

You write that you took 4-5 cc Prozac. I guess you mean 4-5 ml which is 16-20mg Prozac? Didn't you take the same dose everyday? Thers is a 20% difference between 16 and 20 mg!

And after Prozac you took 25mg Sertraline for 1 month I understand?

I will discuss with other moderators first. I will come back to you after that.

How did you feel after you switched to sertraline?

Hello @Go2zero @Altostrata

Thank you for your answers, I understand cc is the same thing as ml, am I right?

Yeah @Go2zero when I was in 4-5 ml of prozac I was switching because I didn't know what to do and I didnt trust anymore in psyquiatrist, I was very anxious and it was for about 2 weeks, I really don't remember since I was very bad and went with the psyquiatrist who gave me the 25 mg of sertraline, you have understood well.

@Altostrata with 4-5 ml I was feeling awful, slow, sleepy, cero motivation, only wanted to sleep, it was to much I guess since I felt like sedated, and with sertraline I felt pretty much the same, last week I felt very good but when im feel ok is due to my therapy, excercise, social life etc, then I felt again very slow and desmotivated and I knew it was the sertraline, I felt it was too much and I wanted to go back to prozac so that was de moment I decided.

Thankyou again for your willingness to help. Today I fell sad :(

Hi Alejandra,

Every ml liquid Prozac contains 4mg Prozac. So when you take 2,1 ml that 8,4 mg Prozac.

Have you been taken some sertraline during the last days? If so please let me know how much sertraline and how much prozac you took each day. Please mention it clearly per day.

Thank you for putting all information in your signature.

I see you are using ashwagandha. Better stop this. It very often worsen withdrawal effects.

Why are you using sarsaparilla and chromium picolinate?

We only suggest fish oil and magnesium as supplements. Lots of other supplements may worsen withdrawal.

Hi, the last day I took sertraline was on July 18, since July 19 im with 2.1 ml of fluoxetine per day at 9 pm, I already update my signature.

Can you share the information why ashwagandha worsen withdrawal effects please? As I mention before I was planing buy a supplement

with Magnesium, zinc, Ashwagandha, GABA, L-theanine, and Black pepper extract.

Product with all specifications: https://saschafitness.com/products/restore

Im using sarsaparilla to clean up the blood and liver and chromium picolinate for sugar in blood. When I stopped fluoxetine the last December I gain weight and lost muscle, increased cholesterol and insulin.

And just to be sure 2,1 ml is what I see in the syringe.

Please search on this website. There is enough info to find about ashwagandha. Several members tried it (me too). Many (me too) thought it gives relief again cortisol peak in the morning. But very often withdrawal becomes worse after using it for some time.

Now you started using prozac again. So maybe not necessary any more. Best is to use as little as possible supplement during tapering.

So you fill the syringe for only 40% of the total 5ml syringe? Just to be sure what dose you are taking.

Hi, the last day I took sertraline was on July 18, since July 19 im with 2.1 ml of fluoxetine per day at 9 pm,

Given the fact that you took sertraline not more than a month and the fact that you take only prozac now since 4 days, so can continue using only the prozac. A crossover from sertraline to prozac is not needed.

You took 25 sertraline which is equivalent to 12,5 mg prozac. With the 2,1 ml prozac you are taking  8,4 mg prozac now.

It is very advisable to stay on this dose of 8,4 mg for now and stabilize. Your system may have been shaken up by all switching between both drugs and dosage changes.

Before starting to taper, I advise you to hold at least for a month and see how things settle.

Thank you again! I'm not very good with maths so I attached a photo of what I'm taking. With your information I think I went down a lot, I would like to taper at 5% so I would be at 9,5mg at least I guess and yeah I plan to keep this dosage at least a month.

With the picture am I doing it right? And I dont know if it matters but just in case I'm 25 y.o and started fluoxetine at 16

Thanks for the picture. Yes you are taking 2,1 ml which is 8,4 mg Prozac.

What do you mean with 9,5 mg. You are taking 8,4 mg now

I advise you to buy syringes of 2,5 ml. Now you are using syringes of 10 ml. With syringes of 2,5 ml you can measure more accurate. This is important and becomes more and more important the more you taper. There are also syringes of 1 ml available

I mean 9,5 is closer to 12,5 mg prozac due to I was taking 25mg sertraline to minimize withdrawal effects, I felt a little dizzy this week, or should I attach to the current 8,4 mg now?

The serotonine receptor occupancies (SERT)  of 9,5 (71,5%) and 8,4 (70%) do not differ very much. As long as you feel quite OK I advice to let things settle. Everybody reacts different to switching and dosage changes. So there is not 1 clear answer.

Most important is now that you let things settle and stabilize! Wait until you feel better and more or less stable. Then you can probably start tapering. As I said, give it at least a month!  You have made a lot of changes last few months. This really must settle out!

Did you stop the ashwagandha?

Here is a copy of my reply to your question on "Brassmonkey method of micro-tapering".

Four weeks is the shortest hold that we recommend. Depending on how your body reacts even longer holds could be called for.

The way it works is, you are currently taking 12,5mg for your dose. For your first reduction you would take 11.9mg and keep taking it every day for four weeks. Then you would make your second reduction to 11,3mg and take that for four weeks, and keep going in that manner.

Do you have a way to measure the smaller doses? Jeweler scales, or liquid?

It would be best of we continue this on your intro thread, so I will post this there also.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Hello @brassmonkey and thank you! I'm taking the liquid presentation of prozac as you can see above.

What you are telling me is the usual tapper method, I already had those dosages in an excel ( this method would take me about 5 years I guess im a disaster with math and thats why I ask for help) but is not your method and the dosages of this calculator http://www.taperoff.co/ (method for 15 years according to the following information: 12,5mg, to taper at 5% (that means 1.25 weekly) with 4 weeks to hold is that ok? ) my question was if 4 weeks of hold in your method is ok as you said " The basic Brassmonkey Slide Method consists of four (4) weekly reductions of 2.5% in a row with an additional two (2) week hold.

I just need help to build my taper plan whit reduction at 5% then I will not bother anymore I just want my brain back And as you can see in my signature just 1 year ago I was at 28 mg

July 2012-November 2020 Fluoxetine in diferent dosages in the morning

Yes doing a four week hold with the Brassmonkey Slide method would be fine.

The formula to calculate the SERT for Prozac is: (86xdose in mg)/(1,94+dose in mg).

Please know that these calculations are not exact. Everybody reacts different in SERT to specific dosages. But this formula is giving an average.

More important is that it calculates and shows clearly how extremely high the SERT still is at very low dosages. Many of us think that they can stop after they went 90% down in dosage. Not knowing that the SERT may around 30% (whereas the SERT was around 75% at the full dose of 100%)

This thread says a lot about this subject: Please read everything to get a good understanding. However the SERT occupancy graphs say nearly everything at one glance, if you really understand them.

For example, the above figures show that a dosage of 2 mg (1/10 pill) still blocks 44% of the serotonin receptors. Whereas a full pill of 20 mg blocks 78 % of the receptors. So a 90% drop in dosage (20mg to 2mg) creates a drop in blockage (SERT) of only 34 percentage points in blockage.

The further you go down in dosage, the more extreme you go down in SERT. Therefor it is so important to go slow and not jump to zero before you are nearly at zero.
