Oksnoh: Introduction - Tapering off of Latuda (Tachyphylaxis) Need Guidance

Oksnoh

Recommended Posts

I can try and hold for repair work to be done, but is the only way for repair work to work is to reduce? I’m sure I was in Tachyphylaxis from the Latuda, I’m not sure where I’m at now. There is no doubt in my mind.

And yes Alto what you said said makes sense, but what I’m trying to say is that I had experienced Tachyphylaxis from the dosage while taking Latuda at 20 mg equivalent to 1 mg Risperidone. Now I’m in acute withdrawals at .6125 mg of Risperidone. However, I’m not sure the .6125 of Risperidone is working for me at all at this point. I’ll see I guess.

I apologize to anyone who may have been offended by my forwardness in my conclusion that my condition was Tachyphylaxis. What I’m saying was Tachyphylaxis brought me here and now I’m in withdrawals, I would really just like some advice. I’m sure I experienced Tachyphylaxis from the Latuda, I just would like to know if at this point I should reduce, or hold..

Just confirmed, upping to .6125 only made my disorganized thoughts so much worse, had a crying spell for 3+ hours. Hopelessness, absolute despair, feeling of overall dullness. Going to see how 0.5 mg works the rest of the week. 6:59, feeling panicky, overall miserable. Thought it was working well for me last night and the night before, but the rebound today was god awful.

If possible, please drop your concept of tachyphylaxis entirely. It does not explain your symptom pattern. Further, your concern about it is affecting your ability to solve your problem.

How many days did you take 0.6125mg risperidone? How did your symptom pattern change?

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.

I took the 0.6125 for two days, I felt better for a few nights, as if it had worked. However, this morning I had an extremely unusual reaction. I had a crying spell that lasted 3 hours, my brother and mother were shocked at how awful I had been.

The psychotic symptom, primarily the disorganized thoughts (withdrawal induced or organic, unknown), was far worse than it had ever been. I was writhing in bed for 8 and a half hours. Overall, today feels horrible, the psychotic symptoms feel much worse.. for some reason on the higher dosage than the lower dosage.

Today the psychotic symptoms were far more persistent, I was unable to get out of bed for nearly the entire day. The morning being one of the worst days I’ve had for about two months; settled down at around 5:30 PM… Additionally, the relief I had tonight after which the psychotic symptoms had died down does not compare to the days previous to the 0.6125 up-dose. Basically, both morning and night were awful, with the morning being much worse. Overall, today felt much worse than 3 days ago before the 0.6125 up-dose.

Previously on 0.5 mgs, I felt consistently bad, mornings being the toughest still. Psychotic symptoms would be worst in the mornings, then at around 4:00-6:00 PM I'd get some relief. The psychotic symptoms would be much more tolerable and I'd be able to at least get out of bed.

@Oksnoh You are on quite the roller-coaster.  Not sure what I can tell you about how to take your meds but I can say that when in WD you are going to have ups and downs.  Sometimes I will feel functional and then it will switch on a dime and the dysfunction, brain scrabble, panic, obsessing will heighten.  Some  early mornings I will have horrible waves of panic, then the next few days I may have only anxiety, then the next week I won't have much of either for a few days.  I will have days of noise sensitivity where I want to rip my ears off then it drops to the low sensitivity.  Even the crazy feelings of being afraid of something comes and goes. Depression, anger, panic, distorted thoughts, a brain that is scrabbled, ice in the veins, weakness, nausea, restlessness, anxiety these will  come and go.  Some of the symptoms are there all the time but not as intense , just were you can manage them.  I guess what I am saying is if you can find a spot with the meds and stick with it for awhile knowing that you are going to go through waves of symptoms for awhile.  You may have only one evening in a weeks time that you feel even a little bit better.  Up and down.  If you can find a spot to sit at your  brain and cns will slowlyyyyyy  adjust and the windows will come more, maybe you will get 2 evenings where you feel better but with time the waves will not be as deep.

I think you should play some heed to Altrostrata's advice, she has seen and worked with hundreds of people. Let some of your obsessions go.  Remember you are thinking with a brain that is not functioning right and also with a certain amount of panic. I can relate to the need to want some quick answer to stop the pain.

Hang in there, you will make it through this.  It is a very slow process and there is nothing we can do to make it go any faster.

Maybe this story will help you  understand why you are having scary things happening to you and give you some encouragement to know that you will be okay

I started seeing Windows, however, I took an Active B-Complex that made everything a million ******* times worse. Excuse the profanity. I am in agony right now. Hoping this subsides. Tip, refrain from adding Vitamin C, Omega 3, and especially active B-complex vitamins/supplements because they can make your nervous system 1000 times more volatile. I learned the hard way, I think I was on an upward slope towards recovery when I thought that the vitamins would aid the process, it seems I'm extremely sensitive to ANY supplements. My nervous system feels like it's in shock.

@GreatfulI was on a good trajectory I think, something made everything worse, I think I may have to attribute it to the B-Complex I was taking. I decided I would try to take Vitamin C as an add on 1500 mg,  Omega 3, and an Active B-Complex to try and ameliorate my original symptoms, turns out it did far more harm than good.

@Oksnoh  Yep the b's for sure are activating.  Not sure what one but I stay away from them.  I couldn't even take a multi vit before any WD

It would make m anxiety go up and I was on a ssri Ugh.....

I know around here the only ones they advocate for Omega 3, magnesium and melatonin

You and everyone else looks for the quick, fast fix.  After that you start to be afraid to try anything.  Then you start to wonder if it is something you ate that set off the wave/anxiety.  It is quite scary  to see  grow adults in that much discomfort it makes us reduced to the fear of what will make us worse.

Hang in there this will settle down☺️

Thank you, I totally agree. I thought that B-vitamins would accelerate the healing process. But boy, was I wrong.. I'm paying for it now. I'm thinking about hopping off the multivitamins as well. See where that takes me. I get a blood panel on Monday so hopefully my bloodwork turns out okay.

Tried 500 mg of Niacin to see if it'd help with the psychotic symptoms, it was extremely sedating for me. I felt mildly tranquilized and almost "inebriated", however, I'm unsure of it's mechanisms and how it will interact with the healing process of antipsychotic use in the long run. Definitely helps with the withdrawal symptoms, not sure about the psychotic symptoms (supposedly the dosage can go up to 18,000 mg of Niacin). Lately I haven't been feeling like myself, super detached, memory problems (trouble creating new memories), and remembering past memories.

Update on current symptoms: Memory issues like crazy, days feel like they zip by and I feel like everything's being done by routine. Most my days are still filled with panic and anxiety, am really considering hopping on the Niacin because it definitely relieved my anxiety and panic attacks from the antipsychotic withdrawal, however, I'm not sure my brain would be able to achieve homeostasis relying on Niacin. I'm wondering what others have done who have also taken Niacin.

Update: Psychotic symptoms seemed to have died down. So far limited to low energy, low motivation, extreme stress by small burdens (i.e., getting out of bed), memory issues, intrusive thoughts not as bad, but still stressful. This is awful, I don't know how long this lasts, I got a very good window that lasted a few minutes the other day, but it was only for a few minutes and I am feeling disheartened by the length of this wave. Let's hope we start to see more of those windows.

I get a blood test, checking for any toxicities that could be making my withdrawals worse or my overall health worse. Methylmalonic Acid (MMA), metal toxicities, histamine, and hopefully a homocysteine test along with a Liver enzyme test because I am experiencing some bad pruritus at the moment.

Had a bad day today, increased paranoia and suspicion, however, I had full insight unlike my last psychosis. Felt like my neurotransmitters were "turning on", so to speak.. Debilitating anxiety and panic from morning to night. Looking into Taurine as it may be helpful for psychosis itself and withdrawal symptoms, however, I am cautious and not very optimistic about it's therapeutic effects. Niacin at 3,000 mg was ineffective for me (only took it for a few days), the good effects seem to subside fairly quickly. As in, I developed a quick tolerance to the therapeutic effects.

At this point, unsure if the itching is real or not, could entirely be a tactile hallucination, reconsidering my options here... Reinstating to the full dose might very well be my best course of option. I'm pretty devastated about this, as I know the tardive dyskinesia will set in once I take a higher dosage of medication and that it'll be something I'll just have to deal with. But better than relapse, I guess? Looking into Taurine, supposedly it can be beneficial for those with first episode psychosis. It comes tomorrow, so that'll be something I can try. Have to remind myself I have to do an amino acid panel as well to see if there are any abnormalities. Damn.

So I tried reinstating at 1 mg of Risperidone, it was working beforehand for my anxiety but it's effectiveness has completely diminished. I am certain I experienced tachyphylaxis, it had worked for my rebound psychotic symptoms but is no longer working, I am at a loss as to what to do. Brassmonkey's advice was to continue tapering, but I'm not sure I can handle the withdrawals. I'm not sure what to do. I'm at a loss.

I tried taking the 1 mg Risperidone, it was successful in the beginning in that it immediately removed my symptoms of both withdrawal and rebound psychotic symptoms. I am still taking it and slowly reducing, however, I'm not even sure discontinuing antipsychotics is in cards for me right now, because I am experiencing psychotic symptoms from that of my original psychosis. This truly sucks, I hope I do not become treatment resistant. My symptoms are tactile hallucinations (albeit, rarely), extreme anxiety, agoraphobia (I presume from the withdrawals), that is about it for now.

How long since you went to 1mg there @Oksnoh?

It can easily take a week or two of discomfort while your body adjusts to the different dosage.

Have you sought any therapy to look into where this arose?
