Hi Mranxious

A job might help. How do those hours suit you in terms of your symptoms. Do they flare up at night, calm down or stay the same. How much will you arm injury impact on your ability to bake?

Dalsaan

Please note - I am not a medical practitioner and I do not give medical advice. I offer an opinion based on my own experiences, reading and discussion with others. On Effexor for 2 months at the start of 2005. Had extreme insomnia as an adverse reaction. Changed to mirtazapine. Have been trying to get off since mid 2008 with numerous failures including CTs and slow (but not slow enough tapers)Have slow tapered at 10 per cent or less for years. I have liquid mirtazapine made at a compounding chemist.

Was on 1.6 ml as at 19 March 2014.

Dropped to 1.5 ml 7 June 2014. Dropped to 1.4 in about September.

Dropped to 1.3 on 20 December 2014. Dropped to 1.2 in mid Jan 2015.

Dropped to 1 ml in late Feb 2015. I think my old medication had run out of puff so I tried 1ml when I got the new stuff and it seems to be going ok. Sleep has been good over the last week (as of 13/3/15).

Dropped to 1/2 ml 14/11/15 Fatigue still there as are memory and cognition problems. Sleep is patchy but liveable compared to what it has been in the past.

DRUG FREE - as at 1st May 2017

It's a tough call, I personally think I need the rest with my arm being hurt and all and the anxiety still,

Martin, refresh my memory, what happened to your arm? How do you think you would respond to the anxiety. If you tried to work for a couple of days and found it was too difficult, would that hurt your application for assistance? You will not be making a decision until your folks get back on Nov. 1, the job will be available until then?.. I wonder which way your Dad is leaning. From what you said, he takes the way you feel very much into account, a great ally.

You need to go with what you feel you can do, and noone here knows better than you yourself.

As always, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY! A proud supporter of the 10% (or slower) rule.

Update - No go on the job , the lady never called me back after I responded, so maybe it was a sign.

* Doctor appointment today *

1. I weigh 265lbs , I gained 20lbs in 1 month off the Zoloft - Can you believe that !!!!

2. High Blood pressure 140/60 which is a point over and into the high zone

3. High Cholesterol level(tryglicerides/lipids and HDL level in danger zone

4. Doc upped my dose from 15mg to 20mg , still a low dose for Buspar, but we both agree I am tolerating it better and anxiety is down 10% which is a blessing.

* I am so happy with my doctor, she actually cares about me and treats me like a friend rather than a patient , it's nice.

I am at the 2 weeks mark for Buspar 2-3 weeks is when it kicks in, so far so good...I do notice clenching my jaw/teeth...could this be a side effect? So far though I am impressed, and will be giving it time. I hoping this works out folks !!!!

Update.... Anxiety is down 20% atleast .. My mind is not racing, woke up today not feeling awful/terrible or sick...I really think this stuff is working and masking my effexor withdrawal. (Crossing fingers) I am alot calmer at the moment.

It's going to take awhile I believe for things to start working again but take comfort that my mind isn't racing ,it's slow right down.

Martin, it's good to hear you are feeling better. I wonder if you have considered this might be because you are not taking another AD and your system is finally starting to stabilize? Buspar will not ameliorate Effexor withdrawal, but it is entirely possible you are recovering. Please keep in mind what Alto said, that you cannot tolerate any SSRIs because you are so sensitized to them. This may hold true in the future as well as the present.

Update : 2 really good days so far !!! Anxiety is way down (Reason why I am taking Buspar) and it's working ! I know the effexor withdrawal is hidden behind it all, as I still feel the odd brain pop among other symptoms that I did in Effexor withdrawal, but my head is actually alot more calm and relaxed since I started taking this. My goal is to be free from everything, but will stay on this until the storm has calmed , which I can still feel is going to be atleast 6 months from now or more.

Now it's time to work on my shoulder , so I can do physical work and not cry. I have my ultrasound on Nov 5th ! So let's hope something show's up, cause it's been injured since January 2012 and still feels heavy and sharp pains sometimes.

One guide to the relative clinical importance of adverse events associated with BuSpar is provided by the frequency with which they caused drug discontinuation during clinical testing. Approximately 10% of the 2200 anxious patients who participated in the BuSpar premarketing clinical efficacy trials in anxiety disorders lasting 3 to 4 weeks discontinued treatment due to an adverse event. The more common events causing discontinuation included: central nervous system disturbances (3.4%), primarily dizziness, insomnia, nervousness, drowsiness, and lightheaded feeling; gastrointestinal disturbances (1.2%), primarily nausea; and miscellaneous disturbances (1.1%), primarily headache and fatigue. In addition, 3.4% of patients had multiple complaints, none of which could be characterized as primary.

I want to thank everyone in here for their amazing support and hope the days keep continuing like this, been along time coming. In the mean-time I have to find some therapy, Anybody have any good links for Ontario, Canada. I live near Oshawa area. Also would have to be on a pro rated scale or sliding scale, due to unemployment.

Just wondering does self esteem and confidence affect anxiety?

Sorry Alto, I meant to say minimal effects. I did alot of research on it and found people in high percentages has little to none withdrawl on Buspar compared to Ssri's and such. Those percentages are very low also in that studies, i am sure they can happen but trying to stay on the more positive side of things. Buspar has really good reviews if it actually works.

Why do you keep asking if it's a joke? I take this site very seriously and do not joke about my health Alto, I was asking a legitimate question, and I have never been to psychotherapy so how would I know what it involves?

i think psychotherapy would be very helpful for you. It will help you explore why you are anxious and develop some strategies to deal with your anxiety.

Started in 2000 - On 150mg most of the time, (but up to 225mg at highest dose for 6 months in the beginning)
Reduced off easily first time - but got depressed (not too much anxiety) 6 months later
Back on effexor for another 9 months.
Reduced off again with no immediate w/d - suddenly got depressed and anxious ++ again 3 or 4 months later.
Back on effexor - this time for 3 years
Reduced off over a month - 6 weeks later terrible anxiety - back on.
Rinse and repeat 4 more times - each time the period before the anxiety comes back got shorter and shorter
Jan - July 2012 75mg down to 37.5mg;, 8/3/12 - 35mg. 8/25/12 - 32mg. 9/11- 28mg, 10/2 - 25mg, 10/29 - 22mg, 11/19 - 19.8mg; 12/11 - 17m,
1/1- 15.5mg; 1/22 -14mg, 2/7 14.9mg, 2/18 - 17.8mg - crashed big time: back to 75mg where i sat for 2 years....

4th  March 2015 - 67.5mg;   31st March - 60mg;  24th April - 53mg; 13th May - 48mg; 26th May - 45mg;  9th June - 41mg; 1 July- 37.5mg; 20 July - 34mg; 11 August - 31mg; 1st Sept - 28mg;  1st Dec - 25.8mg;  28th Dec - 23.2mg; 23rd Jan-21.9mg; Feb 7th- 21mg; March 1st - 20.1mg, March 30th - 18mg

I'm glad you're feeling a lot better Mr Anxious, must be a relief. Agree that yes psychotherapy would be very useful, and yes it is very much a self esteem and confidence issue (is the Pope a Catholic? :) ). In the past I've done various things like an Anxiety management course, cognitive behavioural therapy and counselling, all of them were extremely useful and enlightening and well worth doing, they help you get to the bottom of distorted thinking patterns, I use the strategies I learned even now, even recently, to help turn around some negative thinking patterns.

I honestly wouldn't even know where to start , to get this kind of therapy at a cheap price, as I am not working right now.

Update:

So my racing thought's have definitely slowed down but I am not sure if that's cause I am off Zoloft which wasn't working well with me , or if it's from the Buspar, I am still not sleeping until like 5 am and waking up at 3pm, not good.

Is the Buspar helping with my Anxiety, when i talk to somebody i automatically look away etc, it's awful. I was never like this at all, i loved engaging conversation's with people, why am I like this all of a sudden...really worries me. I guess I am still a mess, but 10-15% better with racing thoughts atleast.

I don't know why therapy would even work as I never had a problem with any of this, was in a few car accidents and took some drugs, other than that my life before all this was amazing,.

Yes but Mr Anxious something happened way back in college didn't it that sent you down this path? a good therapist or counseller will help you unpick and unravel what happened and your thought patterns. These things can seemingly come out of nowhere, or at least how it feels, but there is usually something going on in your head. It can be extrememly enlightening and help you get a handle on yourself. It can happen to anyone.

Actually had a real bad day today, had to move upstairs from the basement , and i have had no sleep, had to move my cat in my room too, he just wakes me up, as the littlest thing wakes me up, now it's 2pm and i still haven't really slept, feels like it's starting all over again. I really don't want to have to get rid of my cat, i love him and am attached to him, just seems like a nuisance because my dad won't let him roam the house like a cat should, for the most part he is stuck in my room, i just bought a castle for him and there is a tv on in there, but ahhhh my mind is rolling once again, thinking now this Buspar hasn't really done much. Cause i don't feel well today...

Update :

So it's been one month on Buspar 20mg, I have to say my thoughts have really slowed down and after the afternoon I am feeling alot better. Probably at about 35% recovery right now. It's going to take atleast another year to know where I am at exactly and then taper off this Buspar.

It's been 8 months almost since coming off Effexor, but not long since coming off the Zoloft, so baby steps for now. Things on the homefront have settled down and I am on social assistance for the time being, only problem is sleeping in the morning as my cat is howling like a madmen, trying to get out in the main part of the house where he can't go in the morning..

Hope to hear from yall soon ! take care

So glad to hear you are experiencing improvements ... sorry about your cat ... cats do not like to be told where they can and cannot go.

Maybe over time your dad will give in ... after my first marriage ended I returned home with my cat and initially we had the rule where my cat was only allowed in my room. But over time my mom gave in and let the cat roam the house. Evidently when I was working the late shift one night she actually held my cat to comfort her  . There is always hope.

How is everyone doing, peggy,karma,jr1985 and friends ? It's been a little while (1 week) since I have updated. I am up to 30mg of Buspar now and not going any higher, this seems to have me leveled out at the moment. I'd like to say that I am still at about 35% improvement. The headaches, dizzness, anxiety , nausea has all gone down.

I am trying a new natural supplement that was recommended on the private chat that I reside in. It's called Glycine, it's a non essential amino acid and they have had alot of progress when taking it , it's produced naturally in the body , works with repairing cells and the nervous system. It actually has many uses and seem to be really good for mental health. It's also used to treat bi polar and schizophrenia. Well 3 days in and so far so good , my energy level has lifted :)

So right now I am settled in back at home, still have my cat in my room that is really interrupting my sleep so we will see about him, I am getting out a bit, went and saw my friend that i haven't seen in like 8 months. I have changed my eating completely , have shakes with kale, carrots, bannas, apples and eat chicken and spinach and broccoli etc for lunch and dinner. I am hoping all this change will create the perfect storm. Have still quit smoking 8 months yesterday:).

Starting to see some positive changes, I'd like to thank everybody here for helping and assisting me with that. Hope everything is doing well and I will stop by again to update you very soon ! My next step is to go into talking therapy.

Bye for now,

Be very careful with supplements, they can be stimulating.

I haven't heard of glycine, but other amino acids I tried taking aggravated my condition(tryptophan, tyrosine, and arginine)

Original drug was sertraline/Zoloft, switched to Prozac in 2007.
Tapering from 5mls liquid prozac since Feb 2008, got down to 0.85ml 23/09/2012, reinstated back to 1ml(4mg) 07/11/2012, didn't appear to work, upped to 1.05ml 17/11/2012, back down to 1ml 12/12/2012 didn't work, up to 1.30ml 16/3/2013 didn't work, bumped up to 2ml (8mg) 4/4/2013 didn't work, in July 2013 I reinstated Sertraline (Zoloft) 50mg, feeling better now.

A few months down the line I switched to 5ml liquid Prozac and tapered down to a compromise dose of 3ml liquid Prozac and have stayed there ever since, no withdrawals and no emotional blunting/loss of libido.
