Mdawg: 13 years of fluvoxamine and others

Recommended Posts

Thank you for starting this thread Mdawg.

This year I was offered Fluvoxamine by my Psychiatrist who of course wants to only help my OCD. After reading your story of the drug I will not be taking up his offer.

Also, re taking up a job or finishing your course, I am in the same position from my parents. My brain feels completely diluted, un-motivated, foggy and sometimes agitated. Despite knowing that I need to keep some part of my life/brain active. I think that it is thanks to this external pressure of having somewhere to be, I am coming off my Benzo.

2008-2012: Cymbalta, Zyprexa, Valium (5 days supply),

2012 - Seroquel x 4 weeks C/T.

2014 - Seroquel x 2 Weeks C/T. Crossed to Risperidone 3mg for 6months until December.

2014 - Stopped Risperidone. Xfer > Anti-Depressant 200mg Zoloft and 6mg Clonazepam.

2018 - 150mg Clomipromine changed Anti-depressant. Tapered Benzo to 1mg Clonazepam. 2019 - xfer to 20mg Diazepam.

Currently:

Anafranil: 75mg. 17th Dec 2022 70mg. 27th Dec 22: 75mg, 14 January 23': 70mg. 16-26th January: 50mg (too fast drop no sleep). Jan 28th 2023: 70mg. 20 Feb 2023: 65mg. 11/06: 60mg 9/08: 55mg 15/08/23 : 50mg

@Shep please see excerpt from above post… this is in fact not a good idea, right?

The extended release capsules from …(Boston area folks feel free to ask about the compounding pharmacy that is covered by MassHealth) are going well.  However, I would like to try increasing the dosage slightly from 12.5 mg per capsule to 13 mg per capsule, for a total increase of 1mg per day.

My reasoning is that when I was dividing the immediate release tablets in half, they would never be 100% equal, and I would usually air on the side of caution by selecting the slightly larger half.  I had been doing this for a while and was doing pretty well on that dose, with the only caveat being interdose withdrawal due to the immediate release.

Since taking the 12.5 mg extended release capsules twice a day beginning 3 weeks ago, I have noticed a significant improvement in the stability of dosing as well as a decrease in interdose withdrawal, while also noting a slight net increase in the severity of my withdrawal symptoms.  This could be partially attributed to the change itself, including the added ingredient of Methocellulose that is used by the pharmacy, in addition to increased life stressors etc, but it might also be due to the slight potential decrease in overall dose as I mentioned.  I wonder if it would be possible to flexibly try this 1 mg total increase and see how it goes.

A 1 mg increase would be 4%, which is reasonable, depending on what dose you reduced from last. When was the last time you were at 26 mg (for the total of your two doses)? If it's been more than a month, you may find that too high a dose because your nervous system may already be adapting to the lower amount, especially since you've already noticed what you called "significant improvement". Not sure you want to mess with that success. Are there ways you can cut down on the life stressors? Or find non-drug coping methods to help?

Hey Ryder, thanks for asking :)  I have been using this experience to practice discovering the limits of my abilities, which on most days means powerwalking, dissociating and ruminating lol.  For me, The withdrawal is unpleasant, but not nearly as horrible as being on the drug, and not nearly as horrible as the ever present reality that I was drugged as a child beginning at age 11, and never really got the chance to grow and develop as myself, until now.  I’m passing the time by accepting that reality whenever the thought arises, and distracting through exercise,  talking to friends, online dating, job searching, fantasy book reading or watching YouTube videos about the new Webb space telescope and how it’s showing us things that no one has ever seen before, things that happened millions of years ago because of how far away they are, and then that leads me to the conclusion that reality is completely subjective and based upon the consciousness that perceives it, and none of this really matters anyway because we are part of an infinite universe, so our only job while we are alive(conscious) is to be fully aware and happy/content/at peace (take full advantage of our consciousness).

I’m sort of experiencing a psychospiritual adolescence as you can see.

Mdawg,

Let me guess, the reason your parents or care takers 'drugged' you as a child was because they found you 'uncontrollable' or 'telling tales about them' or you weren't simply wasn't holding up against your family's environment?  When  a person tells me that they were 'drugged' as a child, they are simply telling me their parents were narcissistic people who don't like truth-tellers getting in the way or something like that.

I was 'drugged' as a child because my parents claimed I was 'nervous'.  In reality,  my parents wanted to flee from responsibility for their actions and inactions. They let a known pedophile stay at our house because he was a cash-cow mentally ill relative.  And, at age 12-years old, having a younger sister, age 9, I wasn't having any of it.  I went on a hunger strike and when the family doctor asked me why I wasn't eating - I said two words, 'My Uncle.'  That doctor gave my parents an ultimatum - get that damn man out of the house OR he was calling child services.  Shortly after my uncle left, my parent had the doctor place me on drugs - for my 'nerves'.  My parents resented me for 'forcing' them to let that cash cow go because they loved to gamble and Uncle Pedo was supplementing their habit.

1997-1999 Xanax

1999-2000 Slow taper off of Xanax nonsupportive by my 'doctor' at the time.

2000- 2018 Burpropion, first at 75 mg, then 100 mg, and finally 300 mg.

2012-2018  Experienced 'poop symptoms: digestive issues, tumors, inability to tolerate stress, weight gain, etc.

November 2018 - I decided to start a very slow taper. The initial dose was 300 mg

2022- As of March 17, at 22-mg Bupropion.

2024 - As of Feb. 14, at 4.5-mg Bupropion

I have been having worse withdrawal ever since moving to the extended release 25, and I think it’s because when I was dividing tablets it was never even, and usually was slightly more than 12.5 at a time.  It’s already been a while and stuff doesn’t seem to be improving a whole lot, and since I already tapered too fast to begin with I’m wondering if I should updose by 1 mg.

You stopped Wellbutrin in mid Feb 2022.

Q:  What was the last dose you took?  Please add that to your drug signature.

Q:  Are you referring to fluvoxamine?

If you are using a 25mg tablet (for the day) and cutting it is half fairly evenly in half, then it may not be the issue.

Q:  Did you change brand of fluvoxamine?

Q:  Has there been any other thing/s that might be the cause?  Alcohol, caffeine, MSG / aspartame / phenylananine, life stressors, antibiotics, sickness, surgery, dental work.
