whatisbrain
Maryland is one of the last states without AOT/CTO, but a bill is being considered now. If you are in Maryland, please write your state legislator. Please, anyone who has experience organizing and lobbying, help us fight this! I am ready to put my finances on the line to keep Maryland free. https://www.wfmd.com/2022/02/25/delegation-supports-bill-to-set-up-pilot-program-to-treat-mental-health-disorders/ Due to things I recently learned in my volunteer work and activism with folks in the legislative, executive, judicial, lobbyist, and media specialties, I believe this information, even when posted here where we should all be feeling secure, carries quite a bit of liability, and it is up to each of you whether to keep posting it. Sorry Altostrata, I know this signature information is a key part of your wonderful work to help people, and I admire you so much for doing this work, but please hear me out. You, Mark Horowitz, Robert Whitaker, the late Loren Mosher, and so many other folks are heroes of mine and you changed my life for the better, so I know you mean well, but I just want you and others to be aware that it could lead to some problems later on. I will explain in a new post.

whatisbrain
AOT stands for Assisted Outpatient Treatment. CTO stands for Court Ordered Treatment. Both terms refer to a legal framework in which a judge orders for a mental patient's daily pill intake to be monitored by a government health worker eyewitness, or, more often, a nurse and a police officer are involved in injecting the patient on a weekly basis. If the patient does not show up for the monitoring or injection, they are punished with arrest and hospitalization, regardless of whether the patient's mental state has actually deteriorated or not. Although such court orders are supposed to be only for "serious mental illness" and "chronic" patients, many orders are in fact issued after first episode psychosis - just one instance of mental distress can lead to a person being put in this situation. It is entirely up to the discretion of a psychiatrist and a judge. Due to things I recently learned in my volunteer work and activism with folks in the legislative, executive, judicial, lobbyist, and media specialties, I believe this information, even when posted here where we should all be feeling secure, carries quite a bit of liability, and it is up to each of you whether to keep posting it. carefulprayerful
Hi @whatisbrain I tapered risperidone, too. I started at 1.0 mg. I had a hard time at the beginning and had to stabilize after I got to 0.75 mg. During the 2 months I took to stabilize, I read through this 20-step guide which explains how to micro taper: Home Page | The Withdrawal Project (theinnercompass.org). Including the 2 months to stabilize, it took me 2 years and 10 months to get from 1 mg to 0.000 mg risperidone. The guide also explains how to limit stress in order to allow the body to heal. I read a book on lobbying and posted an outline of it on SA. I don't have personal experience with it, though. Good luck with your taper, and hope this legislation falls through! Best, CarefulP My psychiatric drug history goes back, on and off, to 1999. This is my taper chronology: Jan. 2018: 900 mg Lithium 1 mg Risperidone 250 mg Lamotrigine Jan. 2018: 0 mg Lithium* 1 mg Risperidone 250 mg Lamotrigine Jan. 2019: 0 mg Lithium 0.625 mg Risperidone 175 mg Lamotrigine Jan. 2020: 0 mg Lithium 0.260 mg Risperidone 175 mg Lamotrigine Feb. 2021: 0 mg Lithium 0 mg Risperidone 175 mg Lamotrigine August 2021 0 mg Lithium 0 mg Risperidone 0 mg Lamotrigine *I had to cold turkey lithium because of life-threatening side effects. whatisbrain
In case anyone was wondering, the bill did not make it out of committee and the last legislative session ended before they could move it forward. However, the new legislative session is starting next week here in Maryland, and it is going to be re-introduced. A number of organizations and activists are lobbying against it, and I hope to contribute to this team effort. Due to things I recently learned in my volunteer work and activism with folks in the legislative, executive, judicial, lobbyist, and media specialties, I believe this information, even when posted here where we should all be feeling secure, carries quite a bit of liability, and it is up to each of you whether to keep posting it.
