haha, you get a "danger" pictogram and everything. And I have only slept 5 hours. I was only surfing "health anxiety" posts today. When I haven't slept properly for days I'm prone to "freak out"-anxiety, often about health. Totally irrational, because the thing I was worried about today is a chronic irreversible ailment, and if that is the case, I also suffered from it yesterday, and yesterday I didn't even think about it.

2004: (apr): Citalopram 20 mg, June 60 mg., dec 20 mg

2004 (dec): Mirtazapine 15 mg.

2014 (Jun): Citalopram stop cold turkey. Began 10 mg Vortioxetine

2017: (dec): Mirtazapine 15 mg ->30 mg (after three day stint on psych ward)

2020: (aug): Vortioxetine 10 mg stopped cold turkey.

2020 (dec): Mirtazapine 30 mg -> 15 mg (GPs instructions)

2021 (feb): Mirtazapine reinstatement 26,25 mg

2022 (Jan): Mirtazapine (5% taper): 14. Jan 24,9 mg, 6. feb 23,7 mg, 1. marts 22,5 mg, 15. marts 21,3 mg, 2. april 20 mg, 26. april 19. mg, 25. may 18.1 mg, 26 jun 17 mg.

Hi everybody, I am going to take a looooong hold. The situation for me is that I am getting more and more worn out from the WD experience. And there is less raw power (bodily and psychological) to fight with. Heat and 4 am-morning light is not making things easier. So I have to replenish my supply of fighting power. For me the trick has always been to get in physical shape. Bike, walk and lift some weight, eat healthy and sleep as much as possible (don't worry, oversleeping is not going be my problem). In the last two years I have stopped SSRI completely and cut mirtazapine to 17 mg from 30 mg. That is enough for now. I plan to resume my mirtazapine taper when the autumn becomes winter and the world has a little less light.

I will not be around a much in this summer-hold-period, but I will of course not leave SA. I will swing by once or twice a week. And I will interact, write and answer and everything, just with a little lower frequency.

I am so grateful that SA exists. There is a certain quality, reliability and validity to SA you don't find anywhere else on the vast World Wide Web.

See you soon.

Just stopping by to say hello and express my support.

This sounds like a solid plan.

You've done a lot of excellent work over the past two years and come so far!

Give yourself lots of credit for your courage and strength in taking on this getting-off-drugs-project and staying the course.

It's a hard path to walk, and you are walking it. And biking and lifting weights and getting in shape along the way.

It makes me happy to hear that you are taking good care of yourself and investing time and energy into your well-being. You deserve nothing less.

I believe in you.

On a positive note: I have had a lot of ankle arthralgia during WD. I had a weak suspicion it was WD, but most of the time I just thought, well I am 50, I have all my grown life walked 8-10 km off road each day (it is my version of mindfulness), so I am just worn out. Goodbye to one of the best thing in my life.

But what do you know: It is pretty much gone. Yesterday I spend 10 hours up and down a latter (the boat project) and that used to kill my ankles. This morning: A very weak tenderness, but nothing else. But even better: It was the weak tenderness that reminded me that it has been gone for some time without me noticing.

Btw, this is really one of the evil things about these drug, which is almost never discussed in public: The health scare they create because of strange side effects. I have been to my doctor regarding ankle and hip arthralgia and edema (all official mirtazapine side effects, but I never really believed it was mirtazapine causing these symptoms (they were to 'real') and neither did my doctor (he didn't even check which medicin I took, and I only take mirtazapine), just diagnosed it as regular wear and tear. ADs are such a mess.

Thank you so much @Ariel. I am in a doubt period: Can I survive in this world without ADs? Have the ADs change my brain and body so much that I can never return to some normality post ADs? Should I just give up? Maybe a little low dose SSRI would do the trick? I also have a real hard time bullsh*t detecting at the moment. Who can we trust in this whole AD debate? I constantly construct and reconstruct the narrative of my life searching for clues to when I was fine and when I was miserable. But of course don't trust any of the narratives I construct. The only thing I find some sort of comfort in is a life of ritualized discipline: I live in accordance with this schemata X and then life must come to me. Let them laugh. I am sure you are more than familiar with considerations of this kind. Just now I remember you said that we will be resilient as **** on the other side of this. In that I also find comfort. Take care Ariel. Hug.

You are welcome.  Life still has problems and stressors but that is where learning and using non drug coping techniques helps.  If you have been on drugs from a young age I suggest that a person finds a supportive counsellor and learn general life coping skills.  I didn't learn CBT until I was about 58 years old (about 1 year before I decided to try and reduce my Pristiq) and wish that I had learned it a long time ago.

Hi @unblocktheplanet, thank you for a detailed answer of quality. I fully understand your motives and respect them. My original question was clumsy written: I am aware that you are not looking for antidepressive effect of psychedelics but in broader sense seeking relief from withdrawal/feeling sh*t and reconnecting with life (or something: The point is: I get you). And I did not at all get the impression you pushing psychedelics as a solution to anything for anybody.

Personally I do not any longer believe in any synthetic or non-synthetic tweaking of the human mind. I used to though (e.g. taking mirtazapine, yes thank you. Alcohol, caffein and nicotine: Please, can I have more). I found your answer of such quality, that I think I will write a post about my own reflections on my non-tweaking stance. I will tag you. Again, thank you for a non-lazy answer.

Btw: Looking for fixes for me is also a wave thing. In windows I am "all I need is a plate of fresh fish and vegetables, a glass of water, a sunset and a reasonable bed and I am all good."

2022 - 1 Jan 6.41; 1 Feb  - 6.1; 9 Mar -  5.8; 13 Mar - 5.9; 7 Apr - 5.8; 21 Apr - 5.7; 7 May - 5.63; 23 May - 5.55; 8 June 5.50;  (got COVID on 12th June so held); 1 July 5.4; 15 July 5.32; 8 Aug 5.2; 15 Aug 5.1; 22 Aug 5; 19 Sept 4.9; 2 Oct 4.81; 13 Oct 4.71; (COVID Booster 17/10/22 so longer hold ); 1 Nov 4.65; 3 Nov 4.60; 10 Nov 4.55; 13 Nov 4.50; 17 Nov 4.45; 20 Nov 4.40;  2 Dec 4.30mg; 9 Dec 4.20mg; I discovered that the volumetric container measured 33ml rather than 30ml in Dec 2022. Following helpful advice from moderator OnMyWay (see her  reply of the 5th March) discovered taper with the dilution was 3.8mg (calculated by dividing 30/33 so that every 1ml of solution has  0.90ml of Mirtazapine.  7.50 - 0.90= 6.6ml which was the starting dose on 16th Aug 2021 not 7.5ml).  I decided to keep using the solution as I didn't want more change to deal with than I had to.

I am ok @Oaktree1. Thank you for reaching out, it means a lot to me. It is such a kind thing to do. I have just been a bit angry with myself. I CT'ed vortioxetine two years back. My withdrawal got so bad lately that I tried to up-dose mirtazapine just a tiny bit but to no avail. Then I thought **** it, maybe it is vortioxetine PAWS I am experiencing. It was. I went on a low dose (5 mg) vortioxetine and the next day (!) I was fine. When they say you can just stop vortioxetine they lie (of course). You do not get the brain zaps in vortioxetine withdrawal, but kills your initiative and will to do stuff.

So now I have taper the rest of mirtazapine (17 mg) and vortioxetine (5 mg). My plan is to do it in tandem but out of phase, so one month I reduce mirtazapine, the next vortioxetine, then again mirtazapine and so on. That will give me two months' hold on each drug. I know it is unconventional, and maybe it won't work, but I have to try something. What I did was not working. Again, thank you for your kind message. I will write you when I am a little more stable :-).

2004: (apr): Citalopram 20 mg, June 60 mg., dec 20 mg

2004 (dec): Mirtazapine 15 mg.

2014 (Jun): Citalopram stop cold turkey. Began 10 mg Vortioxetine

2017: (dec): Mirtazapine 15 mg ->30 mg (after three day stint on psych ward)

2020: (aug): Vortioxetine 10 mg stopped cold turkey.

2020 (dec): Mirtazapine 30 mg -> 15 mg (GPs instructions)

2021 (feb): Mirtazapine reinstatement 26,25 mg

2022 (Jan): Mirtazapine (5% taper): 14. Jan 24,9 mg, 6. feb 23,7 mg, 1. marts 22,5 mg, 15. marts 21,3 mg, 2. april 20 mg, 26. april 19. mg, 25. may 18.1 mg, 26 jun 17 mg.

Have always taken fish oil capsules. Do not drink alcohol when tapering. 1 multivitamin pill a day. Try to eat healthy, but impossible on mirtazapine.

Hi Mirt,

I am glad to hear that you are holding up but it's awful to hear about the PAWS from Vortioxetine withdrawal.  At least you took action by reinstating.  Sometimes to survive, we have to do what we hate doing.  I am sure you hated having to go back on it.  Sometimes that is all that we can do.

I hate the pharmaceutical industry and all the people connected with it so much.   I have fantasies of force feeding some of the nastier psychiatrists I saw mountains of anti psychotics along with Paxil and Cymbalta and letting them experience the full force of the effects on their physical and psychological health.   The desire for revenge, justice - they're the same.   I really wish that Karma existed but I know having lived a fairly long time that it does not.  In the absence of Karma I wish you loads and loads of windows and peace and hope you stabilise soon.

Hi Mirt

I see you stopped by to the site in early March - I hope things are ok with you and that there is some let up in symptoms after reinstatement.
