Kiro: hit by WD 8 weeks after quitting Zoloft

Hey all, I was put on 50mg Zoloft in 2012 (21 years old), and been on them since, raising the dose to 100mg in 2015. I started tapering down in June 2021 with about 25mg reduction every 2.5-3 months, hit 0mg in the beginning of April 2022. Didn’t feel any noticeable difference until the morning after a night of drinking on June 10th 2022 and have been having terrible morning anxiety / hopelessness / intrusive thoughts about life regrets every day since. Is it normal for Zoloft withdrawals to suddenly hit you after two months of zero dosage? I was hoping I got lucky after the 1 month mark without feeling any WD symptoms.

Also, the withdrawals seem to all but dissipate after ~6pm when it feels like my body is just exhausted which usually brings me relief, I go to bed just to wake up at 03:00-05:00 from pure adrenaline and the cycle repeats itself.

What I have been doing to help my recovery is meditating, exercising, saunas, meeting friends as much as I can. I also took a single 7.5mg of Imovane before bedtime two days ago and was able to sleep until 07 which helped the rest of the day tremendously but I don’t want to keep doing that as I want to get back to normal naturally.

Zoloft 50mg 2012 - 2015

Zoloft 100mg 2015 - 2021

Cannabis during evenings April 2019 - April 2022 CT

June 2021 Start taper from Zoloft by 25mg/2.5months

April 2022 - Medication free

May 2022 - Physical WD symptoms start to appear, brain zaps and brain fog tolerable.

June 10th - Physical symptoms mostly gone but mental WD symptoms appear overnight, early morning anxiety that persists until evening, extreme emotional sensitivity, sadness, feelings of isolation and loneliness, intrusive thoughts and hypnogogic hallucinations when trying to sleep.

It's very common to have the wd symptoms you are having as you tapered off of Zoloft very quickly. We do not suggest tapering more than 10% a month and some go much slower than that.

Why taper by 10% of my dosage?

The Windows and Waves Pattern of Stabilization

You could try reinstating a small amount of Zoloft, maybe 0.50mg and see if that would relieve some symptoms. It takes 7-10 days for it to reach full stability in your system.

After you hold for quite a while, you would taper very slowly to minimize the wd symptoms.

Tips for tapering off sertraline (Zoloft)

We don't suggest supplements on here as they can be to stimulating except 2, as they seem to calm the nervous system. If you want to try one, try it in a small amount and wait a few days before introducing the other.

Magnesium

Omega-3 Fish Oil
