About that miracle cure you heard about.....

There are a jillion miracle cures on the InterWebs, each with its advocates. People are always posting on this site about one or another, as the fads ripple through social media.

 

Given the powerful placebo effect, anything can work for someone, and if it does, that's wonderful -- but miracle cures seldom are consistently helpful, and some are simply scams (but can still be good, if expensive, placebos!). 

 

You also cannot overestimate the beneficial effect on people of being heard or validated, or learning a technique they find to be calming or empowering. There are schools of psychotherapy founded to provide such counseling, and sometimes amateurs promote themselves to gurus to make a business of this.

 

Keeping this in mind, we would do well to take every claim of a miracle cure with a grain of salt. If you want to post about some incredible healing technique, please be balanced about it, and do not proselytize, meaning encourage individual community members to try it.
