The text is a lot lighter, making it hard to read. I found that enlarging the font can be helpful.

Our latest moderators: arbor and getofflex, both active members of our community

arbor experienced more than 20 years of adverse effects of antidepressants, causing her serious physical illness. She went off fluoxetine in December 2018 and is now slowly recovering from protracted withdrawal syndrome and the other iatrogenic conditions.

After several tries to go off different combinations of psychiatric drugs, getofflex has been carefully tapering 10mg Lexapro, her last drug, and learning non-drug coping skills.

ChessieCat has become a Moderator Emeritus, with our profound thanks for the many, many helpful posts she has contributed to our community.

Onmyway is our newest moderator.

As with most of our moderators, Onmyway has personal experience with tapering and withdrawal. After a history of various psychiatric drugs, she has been tapering citalopram since 2018, with a few bumps after going to 0mg that caused her to reinstate a low dose in liquid form, which she is very gradually tapering.

Please welcome Onmyway!

Please welcome our newest Moderators:

Go2zero has a long history of psychiatric drugs, acquiring an education in pharmacology along the way. He is currently tapering fluoxetine and bupropion.

Santino tapered off benzodiazepines and then mirtazapine. He has become something of a specialist in mirtazapine tapering. His success story is here.

hayduke has been tapering olanzapine since 2015 and is almost done, having learned almost everything there is to learn about going off the drug. He has found therapy to be very helpful in reorienting his life off drugs.

So many new team members I can't keep straight who I've welcomed and who I haven't. So welcome one and all to the team. We are very glad to have you all here.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Bit late to this... thank you all so much.

The number of lives you guys are saving is countless.

Mine included. I want to help open people's eyes.

July 2015 - Started Escitalopram 10mg (Lexapro) at age 15. Took it everyday until July 2020 (5 Years)

July 2020 - Turned 21 started tapering off until August (TOO FAST TAPER/ ALMOST SAME AS COLD TURKEY)

August 2020 -  Clear Manic episode (nothing absurd or life threatening)

September 2020 - Start feeling a bit weird

October 2020 - Crashed. The absolute worst time of my life.

Late October 2020 - Reinstated Escitalopram 10mg. Perscribed Antipsychotics (Lithium, Seroquel) REFUSED

Early November 2020 - Psychiatrist wrongly upped the dosage to 15mg. Still taking 15mg / day as of today.

22 January 2021:

Beginning to stabilize¬†on 15mg/day Escitalopram (Lexapro)¬†ūü߆

Taking 25mg Magnesium Citrate 4x per day / 2000mg Vitamin C Prolonged Release + Kiwis + Fresh Fruit / Salmon everyday for Omega3 Fatty Acids

Tagging staff  - @membername

Please see the new addition to the "What will get you warned or banned" topic regarding the use of the @membername to tag staff.  Please read all of the information in the quote.  Thank you.

On 6/16/2011 at 4:45 AM, Altostrata said:

- Overuse of tagging to get reassurance from the staff

Please be aware that the staff is all unpaid volunteers, who often have worries, jobs, families, and health issues of their own. While we do our best to help, none of them can fulfill the role of therapist or social worker. You cannot expect them to fulfill your emotional needs.

If you want to go off psychiatric drugs, you must learn to manage habits of mind that might have led you to seek psychiatric treatment originally. These habits of mind may include: Irrational worrying, health anxiety, perseveration (repeating the same thing over and over again), rumination, inability to make decisions, needing constant reassurance, chronic pessimism, chronic hostility, finding fault with everything.

These habits of mind might have caused you a great deal of distress in your life, as well as causing distress to your family, friends, and employers, who may have urged you to seek psychiatric treatment. While we are sympathetic to the pain these problems have caused you, there is no way around your responsibility. If necessary, you may need to engage the services of a psychotherapist or other counselor to learn those self-management skills.

The staff here cannot meet the emotional needs that overwhelmed your family, friends, and employers, and it is unfair and exploitative of you to expect them to.

If a staff member communicates to you that you are wearing them out, please do not continue to demand their attention. We require you to respect the time, and dedication of the staff and limit tagging them to important questions about tapering or withdrawal symptoms.

Be mindful not to exhaust the patience of a volunteer staff member. They may refuse to respond to your posts. They are people too, and too much can be too much.

If your demands for attention are extreme or if you overuse tagging, you may get warnings and eventually be banned from this site.

Hey, I try to use terms like "Plumbing" or "Downstairs" but often people are asking quite personal and specific questions. I know people are looking for reassurance. So I also try to be clear and concise.

I recently said: " I went from total erectile dysfunction to "normal" (what I was educated 15 years ago, is/was average sexual performance. Fluid amount, longevity and sensitivity.)"

Do you think that is too explicit? I tried to use proper terminology. I don't know... I want to be clear.

Maybe it's just me. Is the word "Flaccid" improper/graphic? I don't think so. But other's might.

Any tips?

Prescribed Various SSRI's, Benzodiazepines and Risperidone in 2009 for Anxiety.

Tapered off SSRI's within one year. Abrupt ending with Risperidone.

Recovered from medication side effects!

@CharlieBrown you showed restraint in recognition of what is appropriate in public discussion. We recognize our members may have sexual effects and want to find out more about recovery from them.

Warnings will be given to those who show no such recognition for the sensibilities of others and persist in graphic detail.

Okay, thank you very much for your response. I wanted to be sure I was doing my best to "keep it clean" I would not want to make someone feel gross/sick/offended. (I do my best!)

I tried to use the terminology from my human biology textbook and what I remember from sex-ed. I understand the rule. It won't be a problem for me!

Prescribed Various SSRI's, Benzodiazepines and Risperidone in 2009 for Anxiety.

Tapered off SSRI's within one year. Abrupt ending with Risperidone.

Recovered from medication side effects!

My success story:

Thanks everyone! I'm glad I can contribute to keeping this important forum going. I hope in the not too distant future SAs knowledge will be common knowledge among medical practitioners....in the mean time I'll gladly spend time "helping people navigate this treacherous journey" as @DataGuy put it so well.

These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I have learned, not medical advice.
