Major life lessons have taught me that attitude and humor are two of the biggest keys to making it through the tough times.  Attitude is a choice that can make a tough time worse or tolerable, and a positive attitude really does make healing quicker.  I've been through enough to know that every situation is temporary, so why make things worse for my self.  As for humor, ya gota be able to laugh at your self before you can make fun of others, and a lot of natural occurring events are just plain silly so why not laugh at them instead of being embarrassed or upset.

You are so right Brasmonkey!

I just posted above 22 hours ago so I don;t even count as a missing person yet. LOL :o  I've been busy posting on other  members threads and neglecting my own.  Probably because there isn't a whole lot to post here. I pass the eleven month mark since I jumped to "0" tomorrow and have to say things are going quite well.  It's not to the point where my ups and downs are all attributed to the fluctuations of normal life, but the symptoms I am getting are generally pretty mild and only last a short time. I don't have any plans to abandon SA, and in fact have several projects in the works for here.  Finding the time to sit and do some dedicated writing is a trick though as I have even more projects around the house and things that I have been putting off for years that I am finally getting a chance to make.

Losing Steven is quite a shock.  One of the most brilliant minds of all times. Monica worked with him from time to time over at JPL. He will be quite missed.  Funny though, one of my first thoughts when I read the news was "how will this play out on Big Bang Theory"?

I did a short course of Xanax about 20 year ago and it didn't do a thing for me so I haven't tried any thing like it since.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Hi Brass:

I wanted to apologize for taking up your time.

I freaked out and panicked. I didn't want to wait for an answer. I unfortunately wanted an answer now.

I loved the purple paint. That made me laugh, even for a minute.

I hope you will accept my apology.

Take care,

Frogie xx

Hello my friend, I saw the news about Seven Hawking earlier this week and thought of you. I think you have a lot in common with him.

Current: 2019: 0.04 mg Paxil!! This is real. Soon, after taking Paxil my entire adult life, I will be free.

Long story short: After 18 years on Paxil, "tapered" almost completely off over a month, at doctor's advice in July 2015.

Self-care includes magnesium, reasonable exercise, mindfulness, this forum and nutrition/eating enough food.

Also on 100 mg Zoloft unfortunately!! (which I now will have the knowledge to taper properly)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Longer version: On Paxil since 1996--anxiety & depression caused by (undiagnosed) under-eating / eating disorder.

Doctor kept increasing dose, up to 60 mg; it never really helped but said it really was the best "med" for me.

Rapid doctor-led "taper" July 2015, down to 5 mg, with Zoloft as a "cross-taper" = Essentially a cold turkey.

Severe withdrawal but didn't know it; believed it was my "underlying condition," and kept tapering, 5mg to 4 to 3  to 2 to 1.

Feb 2016: Found SA! As of June 2016, tapering from 1mg at rate of 5-10% per month, Brassmonkey Slide!

Looks like it's been a while.  Not a whole lot to report, just going right along.  Planted a bit of garden two weeks ago. Not doing tomatoes this year, but rather decorative corn, 150 plants.  So far they are about a foot tall and I'm having the devil of a time keeping the skunks from digging up all around them.  Once they are a bit bigger it won't matter, but right now the skunks keep knocking them over.  Spring has brought a new family of bunnies to the back yard and I'm having a wonderful time trying to make friends.  It's a very slow process, but they tolerate having me around for a few minutes, as long as I don;t get too close.

Those are so pretty.  Most of our birds are pretty much a dull brown.  We do have a pair of Blue Jays hanging about and in a few weeks we should have some lovely yellow ones passing through on their way to summer pastures.  The huge Red Tail Hawks have returned to their nest yet again I really love watching them soar in the afternoon sky.  All in all for living in a huge city we have a lot of wildlife hanging around.

Hi Brassmonkey, I’ve been reading some of your thread, though it’s really long n couldn’t read it all😂.

Thats wonderful you managed to get off the meds. How did u go towards the end with the tiny doses. I’m too braindead to read through the whole post.

Been on antipsychotics, benzos, antidepressants and painkillers for chronic pain.

Have been cold turkeyed and put on and off all sorts of things.  Was suicidal n ended up in a psych ward because I had akathisia from withdrawals. I can’t remember what I was put on but when I was released was in the same predicament with severe akathisia n was suicidal again.

Back to the psych ward and I was given a number of different drugs while there. Tapered off one when I got home n have been trying to taper off Seroquel since. It’s been years, tapering slowly but still having severe withdrawals.

I’ve  tapered from 300mg of Seroquel to 7.5mg./ March 10th 2019=7.25mg / 17th of April 2019= 7mg / June 5th=6.75mg/ July 14th=6.50mg/ 28th of August=6.25mg/ 10th of Oct= 6.20mg/ 21st October 6mg/ 16th of December 5.80mg/21st of January 5.60mg/

I AM NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. These are my own views based on what I’ve experienced myself.

Started Citalopram in 2005 (aged 15) for apparent "OCD" - 60mg

July 2015 attempted 2 x 10% + cuts 4 weeks apart. WD symptoms intense at times. Need to slow down.

November 2016 - Resumed taper. 1.25 - 1.5% decrease weekly approx.

44.5mg November 2016. Jan 2017 42.5 mg. March 2017 40 mg. June 2017 37mg. September 2018 22mg. Nov 2018 Holding at 22mg to stabilise from moderate wave. January 2020 - Holding, mostly feeling fine, but still having some waves at times.

February 2020 - Resumed taper , 1.5% reduction weekly/every two weeks.

It's been a year since my last tiny dose of Paxil.  There have been a lot of things going on, return of emotions, windows and waves, fatigue and energy. All in all I'm is so much of a better place than I was a year ago it's amazing.  The cheerful "Sun Symbol" in my thread title a tests to that. That tiny little dose 0.016mg was enough to still cause trouble while I was taking it.  Not any more.  It's been quite a journey from where I started over six years ago and I will be recounting it in a success story as soon as I can get some private time, as I know it will be emotional to write and we have guests for the weekend.

Thank you to everyone on this and other forums for your help and support the whole way.

Congratulations, Brassmonkey!  Your story brings so much hope to those of us in the middle of the struggle to be free from medication.  Thank you also for all you do here!  I look forward to reading your success story.

-1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper; withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD)

-10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin
-Tried several times to slowly taper Zoloft by 10%, then 5% every 4-6 weeks; could never get below approx. 40 mg - spring 2012 experienced major WD symptoms due to stress; tried to updose but no relief, back on Klonopin 1 mg.
-Switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to Citalopram. Finished Zoloft 1/13; Citalopram 35 mg and 1 mg Klonopin.
-8/13: 27 mg Citalopram; 1 mg Klonopin

-11/14: 12.6 Citalopram - began to have bad withdrawal symptoms; out of desperation increased to 1.25 mg Klonopin at the beginning of December.  12/13/14 16 mg Citalopram - going to stay here to try to stabilize; stabilized on 16 mg Citalopram after 4-5 months

-7/15 - 3/16: reduced to 15 mg; ~ 2 months later w/d hit hard (probably r/t stress); 6/16 updosed to 20 mg Citalopram and trying to stabilize. Updosed to 1.5 Klonopin as well. Stabilized on 20 mg Citalopram after 4-5 months

8/17-9/17: feeling withdrawal symptoms at 20 mg Citalopram (due to stress) - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?)  - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).

Supplements: fish oil; magnesium glycinate; vitamin D3; curcumin

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg

2020: 1/14/20: 10.89 mg (1.27% drop); 1/22/20: 10.75 mg (1.29% drop); 2/28/20 toe surgery; 4/26/20: 10.62 mg (1.21% drop); 5/3/20: 10.5 mg (1.22% drop); 5/10/20: 10.4 mg (1.24% drop); 5/17/20: 10.2 mg (1.25% drop); 6/7/20: 10.10 mg (1.27% drop); 6/14/20: 9.98 mg (1.19% drop); 6/21/20: 9.85 mg (1.30% drop); 6/28/20: 9.7 mg (1.22% drop); 7/12/20: 9.6 mg (1.23% drop); 7/19/20: 9.5 mg (1.25% drop); 7/26/20: 9.4 mg (1.26% drop); 8/2/20: 9.3 mg (1.28% drop); 8/17/20: 9.14 mg (1.19% drop); 8/31/20: 9.0 mg (1.31% drop); 9/6/20: 8.9 mg (1.22% drop)

Well done Tom, so happy for you

It's been a year since my last tiny dose of Paxil.

Congratulations! That is very encouraging to hear about!

It's so unbelievable that such a small dose can still cause problems but it does and I believe it! I wish it was easier to convince people of that. There are so many that seek help and then think they are invincible.

Again, so happy for you!

It's been quite a journey from where I started over six years ago and I will be recounting it in a success story as soon as I can get some private time, as I know it will be emotional to write and we have guests for the weekend.

What a great achievement, Tom!  Very happy for you.  Hard to see the finish line from where I am so it's good to know people are crossing it!

Looking forward to the success story.

Sertraline 50mg and Clonazapam .375mg from 2000 -- symptoms of dizziness Spring 2012

increased to .5 Clonazapam and 100mg Sertraline -- no improvement

Benzo microtaper from November 2012 to November 2014 (followed benzo sites "taper benzo first")

Started Sertraline taper in December 2014 cut by 25mg to 75mg; 62.5mg 1/1/15 and 50mg on 2/1/15

Held at 50mg through April 5 to use liquid
Reduced dosage in 10% or less drops from 50mg to 25mg -- at single tablet of 25mg on 10/5/15

Transitioned to all liquid for accuracy while tapering -- Horrible insomnia -- back to 25mg liquid and held until October 1, 2016

10/16 -- 11/18 tapered very slowly to 10.6mg.  No real improvement and never really stable so updosed to 12.5mg (1/2 a pill) for convenience and long hold.

After 8+ months of holding with no noticeable improvement decided to add .4ml of liquid Prozac (about 1.5mg) to see if that improves the situation

Supplements, Magnesium, D3, Omega 3, curcumin, Valerian, 81mg Aspirin, L-Theanine, Vit. C,

What I love about your story is that you were on Paxil for 20 years and have managed to get free.  This is a testament to neuroplasticity.  There is hope for long term SSRI users.

Hi All-- I am very pleased to say that I have posted my success story.  I am also starting a new journal thread to continue our discussions concentrating on the post "0" experience and to "life, the universe and everything".

http://survivingantidepressants.org/topic/17646-brassmonkey-a-success-story/

http://survivingantidepressants.org/topic/17647-tao-of-the-brassmonkey/

Alto, will you please do the honors.

Delighted, Tom.

As is our custom, I'm closing this topic now as brassmonkey closes one chapter and opens another.

Please congratulate brassmonkey in his excellent success story topic, Tao of the Brassmonkey, where he will continue to dispense his inimitable wisdom.
