I’m 26 months out and developed TD 4 months ago. It tends to be minor lasting 5-15 minutes and either happens last thing at night or first thing in the morning. I’m hoping it will pass, especially as it feels like the latest in a long line of symptoms.

How did it come and go for you?

I was put on benzos after having suffered a severe reaction to and then cold turkey withdrawal from Celexa.  Had issues on the benzos too.  When I was midway through taper, the TD started to come out.  When I finally got off the benzos (and another drug, was drug free) it got a bit worse for a time.

It was much like you describe often happened in the morning or at night.  Seemed to be when I was most relaxed that's when movements would occur.  Though I did have the odd issue during the day, for some reason often had a mouth movement sometimes during the day.

It did go away, I would expect it should for you as well.  I hope this helps!  It's so disconcerting to have these problems but I found when I finally could accept that it was happening it helped diminish the movements somewhat.  Definitely stress makes them more likely to occur.

I am not a medical professional and nothing I say is a medical opinion or meant to be medical advice, please seek a competent and trusted medical professional to consult for all medical decisions.

Thanks. Seems a similar pattern. Had the poking and wandering tongue 2 days ago too but I’m hopeful and fairly confident it’s a symptom of healing as it’s when I’m relaxed and it only started 22 months post zero. Altostrata has suggested it may be a sign of healing in her intro topic. Thanks again.

but my main question is about TD and from what doses it may be a problem with seroquel? cause I know that people take it in amounts up to 1000mg. 40-50mg seems harmless compared to that, but is it really?

Please check out the book "Toxic Psychiatry by Dr. Peter Breggin" It mentions the dangers of antipsychotics. I am pretty sure I read that Benzos can help psychosis and also tranquilizers. I think these things are totally not needed. They are now damaging little children with them. It is horrible.

Useful info I just found:

Quote

The first step after the diagnosis of tardive dystonia induced by antipsychotic medications or other drugs is to taper and then discontinue the causative drugs.

...

Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for the symptoms to worsen for a time after the offending medication is discontinued or reduced.

This does give me some hope. I mean, obviously I'm not stopping my AP anytime soon, but at least I have hope that tapering it can reduce my tardive dystonia.

I have recently started a variation of microtaper - a 2.8% drop a week for three weeks and then 1-2 weeks break to let things settle. After my third drop I had a very strange new symptom. The muscle on my hand that moves my fofefinger/index finger twitches quite a lot during the day. It is strong enough to move my index finger in all directions - it's quite creepy - as if it has a mind of its own.

Is this dystonia/dyskinesia/myoclonus? The examples of those seem more serious and scary yet this sort of fits the description. There isn't something to do and it's not bothersome enough that I want to do anything about it but I am curious. Previous drops have caused eyelid twitching which has passed.

I suffer from small hand muscle twitching too -I can’t answer what the cause is (dystonia/dyskinesia/etc) but just so you know you’re not alone! 💕

Mid-August 2020 - started 15mg Mirtazapine, increased to 30mg 2 weeks later. Late-September 2020 - switched to 20mg Paroxetine as Mirtazapine exacerbated RLS. October 2020 - stopped Paroxetine because of worsening RLS, muscle twitching and general restlessness.

Mid-October 2020 - Switched to 50mg Sertraline. Restlessness, muscle twitching and other symptoms even worse. Stopped taking it on 18 November following advice from GP - took every other day for a week before stopping completely. Mid-November 2020 - GP prescribed Propranolol to take as and when required for anxiety. Have only taken a few times as it makes me very light headed. January 2020 - currently taking magnesium citrate powder in evenings to help with RLS. Also taking high strength omega-3 fish oil.

I'm sorry that you're also dealing with this. Have you had it for a long time? Has it changed over time? Hope your other symptoms are not very bad!

Mine started last April after I had my first covid vaccine. Initially I had what felt like restless arm and hand syndrome, then I had terrible muscle tension in my arm and hand and my hand started clenching in a fist. Whenever I would try to uncurl and relax my hand, my muscles would twitch or spasm. I’m mostly bothered by the big muscle below my thumb but have also had the muscle at my forefinger do it as well. It’s really unnerving. Things that I have found help a little are an Epsom salt bath or applying heat. Weirdly, I also find it helps if I touch the muscle, it stops when I do this.

Has this been your only experience with twitching muscles? I hope it eases for you soon. 💕

Hi all,

Can anyone share any hopes as of healing from trunk dyskinesia and muscle spasms in withdrawal?

I am desperate to find more hope 🙏

Started 10mg escitalopram March 2016 and stopped CT Feb 2017.

Started 10mg citalopram May 2019

Swapped with mirtazapine mid June 2019 used for a week and then switched to Escitalopram 5mg at the end of July 2019, increased gradually to 10mg in September, 15mg in October and 20mg in January 2020. Tapered down to 15mg in April. 10mg in June then a week tapering to 5mg and then stopped CT.
Resumed escitalopram in November 2020 at 5mg, increased to 10mg in February 2021, tapered down to 5mg in May 2021 and tapered down to 2.5 in the space of a week in September 2021. Resumed escitalopram at the end of December 2022 at 5mg, increased it to 10mg in March 2023 then tapered down to 5mg in June and down to 2.5mg in July. Started escitalopram 5mg beginning of December 2023 then stopped after 4 days. Took amytryptamine for 2 days then restarted escitalopram at 5mg, after two weeks increased it to 7.5mg, kept it for 1 week then 10mg for 1 week but two many side effects so went back to 5mg. Beginning of January 2023 stopped escitalopram for 1 day then 2.5mg for the next day. Developed  discontinuation symptoms reinstated it at 2.5 for 1 week and 1.5 for the following week then stopped. I’m currently experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

Not sure of the details but, I remember reading of a case long ago of someone who claimed to have really bad TD and, they said it went away after seventeen months.
