That's great you have found something which helps you sleep :) .... and thank you for letting us know.

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

My Introduction Thread

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

Hi Tompee,

Thank you for the update,

I'm sorry you are still having some symptoms, but its understandable, you are only 6 weeks off a fast taper.  We recommend cutting by 10%, but you were doing 50% cuts and then jumped off 1.25mg.  Some people are ok with a fast taper and even going cold turkey, but other people have withdrawal symptoms and need to be very careful.  Its impossible to know how coming off these medications is going to effect you until you try it.

But it sounds like you are managing better now and slowly improving and I'm sure that in time you will have a complete recovery.

I've never had acupuncture, but I've learned from reading this forum that it can sometimes help with symptoms, but make sure you tell your therapist that you need a calming treatment, not more energy.

I'm not sure how effective hypnosis would be for withdrawal symptoms because while they do seem to have a psychological component, it comes from a physiological or biological cause.  Perhaps it would help you to be able to deal with the symptoms better as they slowly reduce.  If you decide to try it, please let us know how it goes.

I wonder if anyone else has tried hypnosis and what the results were.

Petu.

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

Actually the chinese doctor at the clinic educate me something very reasonably the other day so i would like to share here.

he explained that over the prolonged stressful period weather it causes by our thoughts or drugs. it can slowly weaken the brain cell which cause us to having a weaker brain. thats where anxiety, depression and panic attack comes. people has so long living far away from nature. and puting so much stress in their life without giving brain a break. and ofcause brain would like to say something to us but then we put all sort of medication to block its message. the medicine can only block the syndrome but not a cure. human need to destress themselve and stay closer to the nature and let the nature curing us.

By chinese way of treatment over a thousand years. Acupucture comes into help circulating the blood flow and chinese herbs boosting the brain cell to regrow and make it stronger. and once the brain is healthy. it will no longer giving the message and it will no longer afraid and nervous. this is a nature curing in chinese. thats what he explained and he advice to stay close to nature. walk on grass, sit under the tree and breath or meditate, go to the beach and learn how to let go as buddha's teaching. this will perminantly and naturally cure my problems.

it is a very good saying so im sharing it here. hope it helps.

The Chinese doctor is very sensible.

Acupuncture can indeed be helpful. I would be very cautious with the herbs, though, because of withdrawal hypersensitivities. You may not react to them like a "normal" person would.

yes i am very cautions. i kinda had to change his herbal remedies 3 times  because it's a little stimulating at night. anyway magnesium, valerian and seriphos are helping me recently.I started to try out Rhodiola since a lot of people on internet saying it helps their anxiety naturally. Also ordered some Ashwagandha and Relora. will let you guys know the result in a few weeks times.  :)

The problem with these natural remedies is that they work differently in people with withdrawal-induced hypersensitivities than in "normal" people. You may find they aggravate your symptoms. Go very cautiously.

I have it like almost everyday.. sometime calmer times and then then it just comes like that

2007 - 2013: was on citalopram (tried to quit a few times, never worked, always went back on. max dose 40mg)

2012-2013: was tapering my citalopram all down to 2,5 mg then quit.
2013/aug: Took  my last pill

W/D hit me bad after a few weeks off my medicine.

2014/August: 12 months off (much improved)

2015/April: 20months off. ( much improved, still some symtoms comes in waves, but not so intense.)

2015/june: 22months off. FELT different than before, all shakings suddenly stopped, feel much better. a fantastic feeling!

2016/Feb : 2 years and 6 months off, END of my suffering. I feel perfectly fine and back to normal.

Yes, people do gradually recover from withdrawal syndrome. It can take quite a while.

Have you tried an Epsom salt bath? People find different levels of relief with it.

1st round Prozac 1989/90, clear depression symptoms. 2nd round Prozac started 1999 when admitted to dr. I was tired. Prozac pooped out, switch to Cymbalta 3/2006. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to mania 6/2006--then I was taken abruptly off Cymbalta and didn't know I had SSRI withdrawal. Lots of meds for my intractable "bipolar" symptoms.

Zyprexa started about 9/06, mostly 5mg. Tapered 4/12 through12/29/12

Wellbutrin. XL 300 mg started 1/07, tapered 1/18/13 through 7/8/13

Oxazepam mostly continuously since 6/06, 30mg since 12/12, tapered 1.17.14 through 8.26.15

11/06 Lithium 600mg twice daily, 2.2.14 400mg TID DIY liquid, 2.12.14 1150mg, 3.2.14 1100mg, 3.18.14 1075mg, 4/14 updose to 1100mg, 6.1.14 900 mg capsules 7.8.14 810mg, 8.17.14 725mg, 8.24.24 700mg...10.22.14 487.5mg, 3.9.15 475mg, 4.1.15 462.5mg 4.21.15 450mg 8.11.15 375mg, 11.28.15 362.5mg, back to 375mg four days later, 3.4.16 updose to 475 (too much going on to risk trouble)

9/4/13 Toprol-XL 25mg daily for sudden hypertension, tapered 11.12.13 through 5.3.14, last 10 days or so switched to atenolol

7.4.14 Started Walsh Protocol

There's no easy answer for someone who has been suffering post-acute withdrawal syndrome for a long time.

Taking any drug might make a sensitized nervous system worse.

If you try anything, try very small doses first, perhaps 1mg or 2mg to minimize the risk of a bad reaction, such as the one you had to Lexapro when you were taking it at too high a dose.

Tompee… I love what your doctor told you here and want you to have hope that you can get your brain back in touch with the natural ways without more drugs.

But if you do try please do as Alto says and take only a tiny bit.

Sending you healing, peaceful thoughts and maybe  reading some things here , or the self help thread will give you ideas for helping yourself be calm. I know how very hard this is for you. You have been very brave and a long time has gone by. That is good. Maybe tomorrow you will feel better? No one knows that for sure and it would be sad if so much time and hard work that you have done gets thrown away.

Please hold on.
