Welcome, SetMeFree.

From your signature, it looks like you've had GI symptoms from withdrawal before?

That last drop from 7.6mg to 7mg may have triggered them. If I were you, I'd go up to 7.3mg and see if it helps, then hold for a while.

Around this level may be the point you need to taper by even smaller amounts, maybe with longer holds.

Hi....I was on paxil for about 9 years.  I could not get off of it.  The anxiety was thru the roof along with a myriad of WD symptoms which I was unable to deal with.  It was incapacitating and my daughter was young at the time along with being newly divorced.

At that time there were several PaxilWithdrawal Websites which sprouted up due to the difficulty of tapering from this drug.

Your history with Paxil was alot of changing the dose in conjunction with the addition of Prozac.  Prozac is notorious for exacerbating anxiety.

And yes in answer to your question.......WD from Paxil produces anxiety from hell.  We all had it. Par for the course.

I am a little confused as to your dose before the 7mgs. Was it 25mgs.  .  then down to 14mgs. and then down to 7mgs?

If so that is a drastic amount to reduce by.  Paxil has to be done in very small drops and lots of long holds in between.

Believe me there were three paxil WD sites on the Web due to it's severity.

After 10mgs. things can get hairy.  Not just with paxil, but with other ssri's like Lexapro.  This is the area where tiny drops in dose, and long holds in between are helpful.  If using liquid you can drop 1/2 mg. or less if it helps to lessen your symptoms.

Paxil helped me get anxiety/depression under control (a long time ago) but I gained alot of weight and it gave me HBP.

Please do this slowly and in very tiny cuts.  See if Magnesium can help with anxiety.  Alto put  Thread together on Magnesium.

You will get lots of info, advise and have place to come to during this process:)

This is becoming a morning and night event and the only thing relieving it is Ativan.. I was told to updose to 7.4 and see how you feel , should I go higher so I could end this madness and stabilize or just wait it out.. Have people stabilized by just going up .4 on paxil? Sorry for babbling just upset..

Someone with more data and more links will see this soon. But when you are tapering by a set amount ( 1 mg ) the percent of drug you are removing becomes higher...so it gets harder. Plus, as you get low, the side effects drop away, as you have seen, but the withdrawal symptoms get worse. I don't believe anyone knows why, but it happens to almost everyone. So that makes it even harder. In a perfect world, you would drop 10%, then if withdrawal symptoms are problematic, adjust dose 5% upward and hold that dose 2 weeks after symptoms resolve. In the real world, we try too hard, so longer holds may be needed. Hopefully someone can correct errors in those concepts.

Cortisol is a big contributor to anxiety that hits on the circadian rhythm. You can search symptoms and self-care for info on that.

You've done a great job in a challenging taper....I predict great success, after some more suffering.

1st round Prozac 1989/90, clear depression symptoms. 2nd round Prozac started 1999 when admitted to dr. I was tired. Prozac pooped out, switch to Cymbalta 3/2006. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to mania 6/2006--then I was taken abruptly off Cymbalta and didn't know I had SSRI withdrawal. Lots of meds for my intractable "bipolar" symptoms.

Zyprexa started about 9/06, mostly 5mg. Tapered 4/12 through12/29/12

Wellbutrin. XL 300 mg started 1/07, tapered 1/18/13 through 7/8/13

Oxazepam mostly continuously since 6/06, 30mg since 12/12, tapered 1.17.14 through 8.26.15

11/06 Lithium 600mg twice daily, 2.2.14 400mg TID DIY liquid, 2.12.14 1150mg, 3.2.14 1100mg, 3.18.14 1075mg, 4/14 updose to 1100mg, 6.1.14 900 mg capsules 7.8.14 810mg, 8.17.14 725mg, 8.24.24 700mg...10.22.14 487.5mg, 3.9.15 475mg, 4.1.15 462.5mg 4.21.15 450mg 8.11.15 375mg, 11.28.15 362.5mg, back to 375mg four days later, 3.4.16 updose to 475 (too much going on to risk trouble)

9/4/13 Toprol-XL 25mg daily for sudden hypertension, tapered 11.12.13 through 5.3.14, last 10 days or so switched to atenolol

7.4.14 Started Walsh Protocol

Also, once you up dose, usual advice is to wait for 4 days to even think about whether it's working. Improvement is almost never immediate.

Happy birthday SetmeFree!

I'm very sorry you're feeling so awful.

(I merged your post into your introduction topic.)

Firstly, to answer your question about ADs, I was put on Cipramil for depression and I never had anxiety until I experienced withdrawal symptoms.

So the anxiety you're feeling is a 'neuro-emotion' and is a result of withdrawal.

Meimeiquest is right, you have only updosed in the last couple of days and it's really too early to tell. You are currently experiencing a wave (see the link below):

http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/82-the-windows-and-waves-pattern-of-recovery/

Whenever you alter your dose, expect to feel some side effects for up to several weeks. Unfortunately patience is the key here. Your anxiety will not go away overnight, in fact may not even disappear after the initial 4 days have passed.  I speak from personal experience on this.

The real challenge is to avoid messing around too much with your dosage to try to 'fix things'. Each time you go up or down in dosage you destabilize an already sensitized nervous system.

July 2001 prescribed 20mg citalopram for depression;
On and off meds from 2003-2006.
February 2006 back on 20mg citalopram and stayed on it until my last attempt at tapering in September 2011.
By far the worst withdrawal symptoms ever. Reinstated to 20mg citalopram
October 2012 - found this forum!
Nov 2012 to Feb 2013 did 10% taper, got doen to 11mg - was going great until stressful situation. Cortisol levels hit the roof, hideous insomnia forced me to updose to 20mg.
March 2016 - close to 100% back to normal!
