Hi everyone just joined the site. For almost a year now I have been thinking of coming off Cymbalta 60 mg. I have been on anti-depressants for 11 years now since I was 14 ... im now at age 25 I think its time to come off them. I find im not depressed anymore and my panic/anxiety rarely occurs . The sad thing is im more scared of coming off them then I am scared of the need for them. I changed to Cymbalta from Effexor 2 years ago when I found Effexor gave me a lot of side effects. Cymbalta only gives me hot flashes , mostly night sweats. When changing medication I noticed I got terrible symptoms of with drawl. I was shaking, throwing up, dissy, felt like the room was spinning, electric shock symptoms ect. Now that I want to come off im concerned because going to a 30 mg is a fairly large jump . Does anyone know anything to help make this not so miserable? Im concerned because I live on my own I cant take a lot of time off work.

To safely taper off your medication, we recommend not more that 10% reduction over 4-6 weeks. Please read the following link that will explian why:

I wish you the best of luck.

July 2001 prescribed 20mg citalopram for depression;
On and off meds from 2003-2006.
February 2006 back on 20mg citalopram and stayed on it until my last attempt at tapering in September 2011.
By far the worst withdrawal symptoms ever. Reinstated to 20mg citalopram
October 2012 - found this forum!
Nov 2012 to Feb 2013 did 10% taper, got doen to 11mg - was going great until stressful situation. Cortisol levels hit the roof, hideous insomnia forced me to updose to 20mg.
March 2016 - close to 100% back to normal!
