Coralashley Posted June 23, 2013 Share Posted June 23, 2013 hi everyone1 i have been slowly tapering off a benzo (that i was off and oon for 13 yrs) for 1.4 yrs. I am now on day 11 off the benzo. I am on 5.6mg of liquid remeron and want off that too. how soon can i start tapering the remeron? I have gained 8 pound whille on this med, most off which I believe is water weight and i want my old body shape back!! while tapering off the benzo i tried to taper off the remeron and went back on b/c I had trouble sleeppig (but i did get some slleep) breathing issues, and paniky. but those s/d could of been from coming off the benzo too. thak you forur help! coralashley Xanx off & on for 13 yrs Highest dose 1.5 mg per day 2.2012 Switched to 35mg Valium per day to come off 5.2012 @ 4mg Valium p dr put me on 1/8 of 15mg of remeron Upped V. back to 7 mg per day, plus p dr upped the remeron to 1/2 15 mg Tried to come off remeron 3xs while being on 2mg of Valium Had w/d: insomnia so Reinstated remeron to stop benzo 1st Feb 2013 Was on .5mg valium but am reinstating to 1.5mg Valium to cut slower. Been cutting valium by .25mg every 2 weeks. 5.12.13 .5mg of Valium. 5.16.13 Cut liquid remeron from .8 to .7 = less 7.5mg 5.21.13 .4mg liquid valium 5.28.13 .3mg liquid Valium 5.31.13 .2mg 6.13.13 benzo free now i want off the 5.6 remeron I'm on Link to comment

Coralashley Posted July 5, 2013 Author Share Posted July 5, 2013 Ok so 30-60 days? Ill be at 30 days benzo free next Friday. I feel I am having some problems with remeron, etc... I've had constipation (which I have to take Linzess and miralax everyday for it), weight gain, light sensitivity, water retention, feel like I'm over stimulated in my brain, hazy gaze, etc. I know some of those can be benzo w/d's too. Isn't it best to go thru all w/d's at the same time to get over them quicker? Thanks! Coralashley Posted July 6, 2013 Author Share Posted July 6, 2013 Hi everyone! I feel that the remeron is way too stimulating without the benzo. I need off the med, I was going to wait a while before I started my taper off of it, but I have been feeling over stimulated since 1wk after I jumped off. Why is it over stimulating me at only 5.6mg? I am super sensitive to meds so I know I need off of it. It does help me sleep but I feel high but not in a good way. Vision is distorted a little with light sensitivity. Thanks! The thread you originally posted on is specifically for providing guidance on tapering off of remeron and guidance specifically for your situation is better addressed in your own thread. From your post in the remeron thread, "Isn't it best to go thru all w/d's at the same time to get over them quicker?" The answer is no. While you have been off of your benzo about a month you are not through the withdrawal effects. You may experience withdrawals from the benzo for another couple of months. If you start tapering off remeron close on the heels of your benzo taper and you start having more symptoms, you won't know whether it is left over from your benzo withdrawal or whether it is from coming off of remeron. We find that if a member experiences withdrawals coming off a drug then her central nervous system becomes sensitized. It is usually recommended that the member allows some time for her central nervous system to stabilize before attempting to remove another drug. We recommend tapering off of the more activating drug first and then tapering off of any benzos. However, here you are off of your benzo and needing to come off of remeron. If you feel you must begin tapering off of remeron please start with a 10% reduction from your current dose and hold that for about 4 weeks. Yes, I would wait until I was feeling fairly well recovered from the benzo taper before tapering mirtazapine. You might want to try a little magnesium citrate or magnesium glycinate for constipation instead of the drugs. Start at 50mg, see the magnesium topic in Symptoms and Self-care. I was also being overstimulated by the Remeron so I cut it back a little more than 10% and I felt better. I did have a little with drawls but after 2 to 3 weeks I felt much better. So it may be a little different for Me because I'm so sensitive To meds don't u feel that this could be the case again because I was experiencing the same thing Thank u!! Then I will hold here for a good while. I didn't realize you were finding Remeron to be overstimulating. In that case, if I were you, I'd make very small decreases more often, such as 5% decreases every 2 weeks, with holds if withdrawal symptoms start. This is not medical advice.
