thank you dear Tezza!

I'm definitely not going to taper, probably not any time soon.

Despite the awfullness,I feel good that I'm dealing with my states and feelings as MY states and feelings and not symptoms for which I need drugs. It might be a sign of breaking a psychological dependence...

I've been trying to put on a brave front, clutching for straws, believing it would pass,it is just a wave but my condition is just deteriorating. It started some 10 days ago and it is getting worse and worse.

2 months after reinstating today I have experiencing similar episodes to those in the acute withdrawal. For 2 months I haven't changed anything with the drugs,I was actually doing better and better with windows getting bigger and waves shorter.

But then I started feeling overwhelmed, like I was crossing my borders, like I was so full of nervous energy that my psychic couldn't contain it any more.I was exposed to the stress of a job interview and medical examination but I can't tell if that was a trigger or was the intensity with which I experienced it a result of prior vulnerability and instability.

It is so hard to describe how I feel and what is happening to me.I feel as if I will burst,I'emotionally empty, before that I was awfully irritable, sometimes I find it hard to talk, order things at a store,I have to concentrate hard to find the words,I feel completely empty and detached. The scarriest moment was entering the train and feeling like it wasn't me or I wasn't there.

I also felt panicky but as a result of my awful cognitive dysfunction.Today I also felt ringing in my left ear!Is that tinnitus???I have never experienced that in my life and feel awfully scared.

That derealization I only felt first in September in the middle of withdrawal and before reinstating.

I have no idea what is happening and why.I spent the whole weekend in bed trying to pull myself together,be in peace and quite, rest and relax but it didn't help.Went to buy all the supplements I could think of:omega 3,magnesium, vitamin E and vitamin B 12.but I didn't notice they changed anythings ;( things are just running their course,it's getting worse and worse.

Why is this happening? what can I do?

I even think nobody will reply and I'll be left to my own resources ;(

So sorry, Bubbles! It doesn't really matter if you were "triggered" or are naturally vulnerable...this whole experience is going to greatly increase your resilience, no matter where you started. A job and medical interview would definitely throw me at this point.

Some people find B vitamins over activating, you might want to stop that for now. Alto has a thread about probiotics in yogurt as a possible substitute.

Gentle walking in nature is very healing. I am learning that getting out of bed at the same time 7 days/week helps me (yuck).

Once your brain is sensitized by withdrawal it can respond differently to even familiar chemicals (also yuck). But that doesn't necessarily mean you should change anything...I will leave that for our experts.

Sending you a big hug!

1st round Prozac 1989/90, clear depression symptoms. 2nd round Prozac started 1999 when admitted to dr. I was tired. Prozac pooped out, switch to Cymbalta 3/2006. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to mania 6/2006--then I was taken abruptly off Cymbalta and didn't know I had SSRI withdrawal. Lots of meds for my intractable "bipolar" symptoms.

Zyprexa started about 9/06, mostly 5mg. Tapered 4/12 through12/29/12

Wellbutrin. XL 300 mg started 1/07, tapered 1/18/13 through 7/8/13

Oxazepam mostly continuously since 6/06, 30mg since 12/12, tapered 1.17.14 through 8.26.15

11/06 Lithium 600mg twice daily, 2.2.14 400mg TID DIY liquid, 2.12.14 1150mg, 3.2.14 1100mg, 3.18.14 1075mg, 4/14 updose to 1100mg, 6.1.14 900 mg capsules 7.8.14 810mg, 8.17.14 725mg, 8.24.24 700mg...10.22.14 487.5mg, 3.9.15 475mg, 4.1.15 462.5mg 4.21.15 450mg 8.11.15 375mg, 11.28.15 362.5mg, back to 375mg four days later, 3.4.16 updose to 475 (too much going on to risk trouble)

9/4/13 Toprol-XL 25mg daily for sudden hypertension, tapered 11.12.13 through 5.3.14, last 10 days or so switched to atenolol

7.4.14 Started Walsh Protocol

thank you so much dear Meimeiquest!

Your prompt and so warm reply immediately restored my faith in this forum...in moments of despair it's so easy to lose faith in everything.I've been taking vitamin B12 for 3 or 4 days responding to that feeling that my brain desperately misses something.but i'm stopping it now.

Also in despair of trying to understand WHY I started thinking that maybe that kriya workshop destabilised me...Intense breathing brought me in a trance like state which the trainer called deep relaxation.Immediately after that I developed a fever and extreme physical weakness,a flu like state that lasted for over a week and was then followed by this psychological disaster...

Now I'm thinking of taking a solid Xanax instead of suspension...maybe I'm doing something wrong there...my mentors will not like it but I'm desperate

Hi Bubble that's quite a wave you are in! They are terrifying and seem like they will never end

but they do end. It will get better . I agree with Meimei, some supplements can make things worse

so it's better to be very cautious with them. The fish oil has been good for me, magnesium is calming

but tends to aggravate my ibs so I just take epsom salts baths which help a lot.

I hope this settles down soon for you, squishy  Mamma hug. x

**I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge.

Different drugs occasionally (mostly benzos) 1976 - 1981 (no problem)

1993 - 2002 in and out of hospital. every type of drug + ECT. Staring with seroxat

2002  effexor.

Tapered  March 2012 to March 2013, ending with 5 beads.

Withdrawal April 2013 . Reinstated 5 beads reduced to 4 beads May 2013

Restarted taper  Nov 2013

OFF EFFEXOR Feb 2015    :D

Tapered atenolol and omeprazole Dec 2013 - May 2014

Tapering tramadol, Feb 2015 100mg , March 2015 50mg

 July 2017 30mg.  May 15 2018 25mg

Taking fish oil, magnesium, B12, folic acid, bilberry eyebright for eye pressure.

My story http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/4199-hello-mammap-checking-in/page-33

Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible

I think Cymbalta had a similar deep relaxation experience, and Alto wrote that in WD that can be quite destabilizing. But I am not sure about that.

Hi Bubble,

I read your description of what you are going through and it sounds a lot like my experience. I think mine may have been precipitated by a number of factors including deep relaxation during meditation. I had no idea that could cause me to become unstable and I am still feeling poorly. Only sleeping part of the night, DP/DR, burning on top of head. My palpitations have calmed down though probably because all of the mag water I drink. I have persistent anxious worry thoughts about my future that I cannot seem to stop for very long.

If you read my thread you'll see there in a post where I quoted from an article by Alto on beyondmeds. When I was finally able to think a little more clearly I used this term for search: 'Relaxation-Induced Anxiety' and bingo, there were all of the results. Mine was so bad when this wave started that just the relaxation approaching sleep caused my anxiety to soar to where I thought I was going to jump out of my skin. It has only been in the last few days that I have been able to sleep the first few hours of the night lying down with my head on the pillow. I slept many nights sitting up, slumped over, propped up. Or I should say I lay there not sleeping. The first week was agony.

I do not know how much sleep I get but I am in bed by 10p, I wake up after a time and spend the rest of the time lying there rocking back and forth. Still getting a cortisol rush in the early morning. Get out of bed when it is light, about 7:30. And then have the whole long day to get through. Cannot even nap. I sure hope you are not doing as badly as I am dear Bubble. I remember you posting in my thread and you were so comforting when I needed it most. I am so very slowly coming out of it but I am not out of the woods yet. I hope your experience is better than mine. I cannot believe it has been close to a month since it started.

Thank you to all who participated in my recovery. I'll miss talking to you but know that I'll be cheering you on from the sidelines, suffering and rejoicing with you in spirit, as you go on in your journey.

Hi Bubble,

What you have written sounds very familiar to me, I would call that a bad wave.  Its really difficult to pinpoint what actually 'causes' each wave, I expect its often a combination of factors, but I agree with you, if we can identify something which may have precipitated it, then it gives us a  sense of understanding and control.

For me, minimizing stress and reducing my exposure as much as possible to stimulating situations seems to support a reduction of symptoms.  We are all different, but I think that if we pay attention to what our bodies are telling us, in response to what we are doing and thinking, then we can use that as a guide to show us what we need to be doing to help our nervous system heal.

Each time I find myself in the middle of a wave, I'm suddenly shocked, confused, disoriented, scared, feeling alone with my memory seriously compromised, so I can't actually remember the details of a previous wave and how it ended.

But they did, they always do, then the ability to remember starts to come back again and you can say "Oh, ok, that was a wave, I've been having them for a while, they come and go"

I hope this one passes for you soon and you feel better.

Petu.

My Introduction Thread

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

Oh Bubble, I'm sorry you're feeling bad. I have to say that kriya type yoga can be very stimulating to the nervous system, I have done it. Things that would be excellent for our health when we are strong and stable can just be too much for the system in withdrawal. It sounds like you had obtained a delicate balance and got knocked off balance into a wave.

I know this is not much help, but what you describe is very, very common.  In fact I would say it's very rare to meet someone who has not experienced what you describe, in withdrawal. It's part of the pattern, the roller coaster of withdrawal, very normal.

I think staying away from stimulating supplements of any kind would be wise. Some people even find fish oil to be too stimulating, although it's safe for most. As much as possible, reduce the stress in your life and create a gentle environment for your nervous system. Cut back on projects and involvement for a while. Get lots of rest. Do only very calming gentle exercise and meditation, nothing that requires great effort or focus. This is a time to cut your brain as much slack as you can so it can heal.

You will feel better again, I promise. Unfortunately I can also promise that you will have bad times again too. But if you keep taking care of yourself and make no drastic changes in meds, habits, supplements etc., you will gradually stabilize, and the bad times will be less frequent and not as bad. It's a long journey but you're right on track.

Started on Prozac and Xanax in 1992 for PTSD after an assault. One drug led to more, the usual story. Got sicker and sicker, but believed I needed the drugs for my "underlying disease". Long story...lost everything. Life savings, home, physical and mental health, relationships, friendships, ability to work, everything. Amitryptiline, Prozac, bupropion, buspirone, flurazepam, diazepam, alprazolam, Paxil, citalopram, lamotrigine, gabapentin...probably more I've forgotten.

Started multidrug taper in Feb 2010.  Doing a very slow microtaper, down to low doses now and feeling SO much better, getting my old personality and my brain back! Able to work full time, have a full social life, and cope with stress better than ever. Not perfect, but much better. After 23 lost years. Big Pharma has a lot to answer for. And "medicine for profit" is just not a great idea.

Let me add that the feeling, the absolute sense of certainty that "it has never been this awful, this is the worst, and it will never be okay again, and I must do something, anything right now!"--

all of those feelings and thoughts are totally typical and characteristic of the "wave" periods of withdrawal. It will all pass. Please try to step back and observe the thoughts and feelings and just realize they're symptoms just like any others.

You're doing fine. You're going to be fine. It's just impossible to feel or believe that right now because your brain is all jumbled up.

Dear Cymbalta, Petu and Rhi,

I've read your posts with great care and of course, there are tears in my eyes. I'm not used to so much kindness and gentle understanding, I must say.

It helps sooo much!

Thank you so much Cymbalta for sharing your experience with kriya, as you so well understand Petu, I just had to find a cause. In an overzealous attempt to speed my recovery, I made things worse. I found the whole experience disturbing right away but had no idea it could throw me off my fragile balance this badly. Another lesson learnt.

I have had enough bad waves to learn some coping strategies of cutting myself slack but as you say Rhi, each time seems to be most awful so far. To make matters more difficult for me, on Saturday I should travel on business to a far away country on another continent (non-refundable expensive tickets). I was so much looking forward to this trip which would be a crown of my professional achievements. Staggering to work this morning and swimming in waves of anxiety with my head barely afloat, I was thinking of just cancelling it.

But since it means so much to me, I decided to up Xanax (which made me feel soooo guilty). Especially since now I saw windows occur without the 'help' of drugs. But I needed certainty. Writing from a window now with fog in my head cleared. I know it won't last but I needed this feeling so badly now to just see it's possible.

Even when I feel unwell, travelling soothes me and distracts me from my pain. I hope it will be like this this time as well. I'm not under stress because I have confidence in my ability to deliver and I'm a very good presenter. The only fear is descending of that thick brain fog and resulting cognitive 'impairment'....

I hope you are not disappointed with me that I decided to up Xanax and go on that trip ;(

I think things actually happen without bloody Xanax and it's just my horror that led me to seek refuge there, again ;(  I have 2 more days yet. Things are not easy at work either but I have that attitude of cutting myself slack... And if it comes to that, I'm prepared to cancel the flight due to a sudden illness (which would probably had to be documented then).

I can't thank you enough for being there for me...

Hi Bubble,

I think you need to do whatever you feel you need to to keep things together, especially if it is work related. We all have to do whatever we can to make everything work for us and I think it all works out in the end. We are all rooting for you!

Oh tell us :). Share the horror. If it helps.

A year ago, I restarted my benzo (I was clear off!). Now I am waiting to even restart that taper because I'm a mess from tapering blood pressure medicine, of all things. If I hadn't done that, I would be off everything but lithium now. But I don't actually regret starting those meds...I really couldn't make it otherwise. I totally understand your med change and I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Dear Meimei,

this helps a lot (by preventing self-flagellation ;)

Yesterday I exposed myself to a different kind of healing by spending time with my adorable 18 month old niece who is already very talkative and calls me auntie ;)

Despite that I woke up at 1 am on the verge of panic attack and shakingly took Xanax... Despite everything I'm going through at the moment and yesterday in particular, the first call from my boss this morning was: where is my writer? I started crying when I was reading what you wrote (a press release). And then she again started crying. And then I was crying as well. I can't believe that at the moment when I felt good 3/4 of my brain were gone, dead or at least inaccesible, I manage to deliver something that was of a good quality (and even more).

These waves teach us humility (among other things...)

Hi Bubble,

It is amazing how resilient we are and the surprising things we are capable of even while being ill. You are definitely right about the humility.....

Bubble sorry to chime in so late.  The 2 things that jumped out for me is about understanding where and why this wave comes from along with supplements.

This may help you.  There is a virus going on down here.  It was nausea and a small bit of puking.  The hard part was feeling ill, flu like symptoms, tiredness and that awful panic and emotional discomfort you have been describing. I was spiraling downward quickly.

What has happened to me is that when I actually get sick I panic.  I can't tell if it's WD or an illness and then when I finally realize it may be a virus, I can let go somewhat and take care of myself.  The two overlap for me and make me crazy.  I believe it is like a PTSD reaction to feeling so poorly.  When we are over tired, sick and WDing our defenses are a way down and (I) go into a bad state of panic, fear and worry.

Maybe this happened to you.  And then ~ the fog lifts, I feel better and realized I was under the weather and I begin to feel better once again.

Supplements do not work well for me at all.  I have spent sooooooooo much money on them only to find that they contributed to feeling poorly.  Omegas cause very vivid, technicolor dreams which disturb my sleep and can cause panic.  I  know people who do not take AD's and this happened to them.

B's are too stimulating and mimic panic for me.  Others swear by them.

Magnesium helped me with anxiety.

Probiotics work well for digestive health for me.

Look at all the factors involved.  It's winter now and lots of bugs are running around.

Hoping you feel better and I believe you will :)

Bubbles … we all do what we have to do to take care of ourselves and that includes up dosing or changing med forms ( liquid to dry) to a level where we can function and perform for our life sustaining job. I've done it & although was disappointed and felt a failure in my taper had to put that aside for my well being.

Please don't beat yourself up for changing your dosing to feel better. The time will come when everything in your life situation is aligned in such a way that you will know or sense that it might be time to try again.

Until then you really just have to focus on doing what is right for your employment atmosphere and put the taper in the background.

Really you should congratulate yourself Bubbles. Yu are WAYYY ahead of the game now!!! You found this forum , you've gained lots of background information, you've tried a liquid suspension with some success so you have credible experience , so all of this will help you when you are ready.

Stay steady… enjoy the relief that you are feeling, and heal yourself emotionally. You're worth it.

3/2/13.. Began equal dosing 5 Xs /day xanax, while simultaneously incorporating a 2.5 % drop ( from 3.5 mg/day to 3.4 mg/day)

4/6/13 dropped from 300 mg. Wellbutrin XL to 150 mg. Difficult but DONE! Down to 3.3 mg xanax/ day / 6/10/13 3 mg xanax/day; 7/15/2013 2.88mg xanax/day.

10/ 1/2013...... 2.5 mg xanax… ( switched to tablets again) WOO HOO!!!!!! Holding here… cont. with Lexapro.

1/ 2/2014.. tapered to 18mg ( by weight) of a 26 mg ( by weight) pill of 20 mg tab. lexapro. goal is 13mg (by weight OR 10 mg by ingredient content) and STOPPED. Feeling very down with unbalanced, unpredictable WD symptoms.

1/2/2014- ??? Taking a brain-healing break from tapering anything after actively tapering something for 1.5 years. So… daily doses as of 2/2/2014: 18 mg by weight Lex, 150 mg Well. XL, 2.5 mg xanax, down from 26 mg by weight Lex., 300 mg well. XL, 4 mg xanax in August, 2012. I'll take it. :) 5/8/14 started equivalent dose liquid./ tabs. 5/13/14 1.5 % cut.

Until then you really just have to focus on doing what is right for your employment atmosphere and put the taper in the background.  areyouthere

my dears,thank you so much!

I've never met with so my kindness, understanding and gentle support as here!probably because I was never able to open up and show my vulnerability.I find doing this here a lot easier and will probably be able to transfer this outside the forum as well.

You are so right RU that despite this setback,I have come a long way since finding this forum!and when the time comes again,I will again continue where I stopped now.

Nikki, your experiences is also very useful.Today was another bearable day despite nocturnal panic.

Bubble of course I am not disappointed in you! This is not a contest or a race, this is your life, and you are doing something very hard.

I am concerned about the Xanax simply because it is a drug that can lead to so many more problems for people in withdrawal. It is a short-acting and very addictive drug.

The level of the drug peaks out in the bloodstream in less than two hours and then begins to drop. As it drops, it often (usually) produces an increase in anxiety, panic attacks, etc. So the Xanax actually can end up causing even more anxiety, and worse anxiety, and panic, than it is helping.

I absolutely, completely understand the desire and the need to do whatever it takes to cope. I do, all the time, myself.

I understand what you are trying to say dear Rhi.

For over 30 days I stuck with the same dose regardless of how I felt.I had this incredibly important realisation that intense anxiety subsides of itself,WITHOUT Xanax.

But 2 weeks ago, after that kriya, something happened.I started spiraling down.I tried everything I could to stop it without changing xanax dosage. But things were getting worse and worse to culminate in the most awful derealisation, night panic and utter agony.

I didn't have time to stay at home and endure it,buy seriphos I read about,or simply allow myself space because of the moment in my life:possible changing jobs that would in the future make my life easier, give me more opportunities to focus on my well being, remove external stressors of not being able to pay bills and being in the red since my mortgage takes most of what i earn working so hard now.

In 2 weeks things will be sorted out but not being able to function now would jeopardise my chances for a better future and more healing opportunities.

On top of everything I am flying to Vietnam!

It's one thing to experience panic at home and something altogether different to experience it at airports,on 4 planes I have to change and in a far away country ;(

I do have a big problem:when I just started working and I would experience debilitating panic attacks that could have led me to end on social welfare instead of being a self-providing professional who can choose treatment my then pdoc told me to take 3 mg xanax for 5 days to suppress cortisol explosion when I first started feeling mounting anxiety.

It was 12 years ago. There were a few, I don't know how many ocassions, when I practiced that 'trick'.but in those 12 years until I stopped Lexapro in September I didn't experience a single panic attack.and I attributed this to Xanax...

I really have a big problem;(

I'm travelling in 3 hours, had a good night without panic, slept for 7 straight hours. When I get back on Thursday I will be completely free to focus entirely on my well being. But over the next 5 days I have to do whatever it takes to survive.

And this thing worked for me for 12 years. It obviously had its price I am and will be paying dearly.

But with all of you around I feel hope!

Happy to hear you had a pleasant flight :)

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

thank you all for being there!

So far,so good. Very tired but actually managed to feel some peace while collecting shells on the beach and communicating with very friendly and open but poor people in the streets by smiles.

Dear friends,

no news is usually good news.

I've been feeling totally bearable and at times even,oh miracle of miracles, WELL!

Being in a different environment with people who see me in a positive light has that effect on me. It was indeed the crown of my professional achievement and I felt extremely validated.I even think that exhaustion of a long trip and jet lag suppressed anxiety and depression.

Before the trip I for 2 days increased xanax from 2 to 2.5 mg but since then I have again been on 2 mg but on the dry version which meant skipping the night dose and I do feel morning anxiety surge, but again,it's bearable.

I feel awful after flying back and forth through 6 time zones in 6 days,i have diarrhea, feel nauseous (thanks to the plane food),sleepy, tired but I think it's jet lag and my psychological state is ok.

I can hardly wait to feel better physically to resume my liquid xanax with equal dosing and regular taking of omega 3 and magnesium, normal sleeping and eating...

I know I'm in for more rough times but that was the most horrible nightmare I experienced and survived with your support...

Hugs,

Bubble

It sounds like you are doing much better as far as WD goes! I'm happy for you!

What happened and how I arrived here: http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/4243-cymbaltawithdrawal5600-introduction/#entry50878

July 2016 I have decided to leave my story here at SA unfinished. I have left my contact information in my profile for anyone who wishes to talk to me. I have a posting history spanning nearly 4 years and 3000+ posts all over the site.

Thank you to all who participated in my recovery. I'll miss talking to you but know that I'll be cheering you on from the sidelines, suffering and rejoicing with you in spirit, as you go on in your journey.

My story http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/4199-hello-mammap-checking-in/page-33

Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible
