I can't tell you unless I know how many milligrams (mg) per milliliter (mL). Milligrams and milliliters are not interchangeable. Milligrams are weight/amount of drug.  Milliliters are the volume of a liquid, the total volume of the solution.

You could have 1 milligram in a milliliter or you could have 10 mg in a milliliter, so I can't say how many milliliters you should take unless I know how many milligrams there are per milliliter, does that make sense?

If your liquid solution is 20 milligrams per 5 milliliters then that's 4 milligrams per 1 milliliter.  Then that's 1 mg per 1/4 mL (0.25 mL).

10% of 5 mg is 0.5 mg (half a milligram).

So half a milligram would be contained in half of 1/4 mL Half of 0.25 is 0.125. (0.125 mL.)

But that only works if the strength of your solution actually is 20 mg per 5 ml.  If it's the other way around, 5 mg per 20 mL, then it would be 1 mg per 4 mL, and 0.5 mg (10%) would be contained in 2 mL.

Or if it's some other strength it's going to be something else entirely.

I wrote all this out so you could follow the math and also see how important it is to know how many mg there are per mL, and also how important the difference is between mg and mL. Hope this helps.

Started on Prozac and Xanax in 1992 for PTSD after an assault. One drug led to more, the usual story. Got sicker and sicker, but believed I needed the drugs for my "underlying disease". Long story...lost everything. Life savings, home, physical and mental health, relationships, friendships, ability to work, everything. Amitryptiline, Prozac, bupropion, buspirone, flurazepam, diazepam, alprazolam, Paxil, citalopram, lamotrigine, gabapentin...probably more I've forgotten.

Started multidrug taper in Feb 2010.  Doing a very slow microtaper, down to low doses now and feeling SO much better, getting my old personality and my brain back! Able to work full time, have a full social life, and cope with stress better than ever. Not perfect, but much better. After 23 lost years. Big Pharma has a lot to answer for. And "medicine for profit" is just not a great idea.

Sablee, look on your bottle of liquid Prozac and see how many milligrams are in a milliliter.

10% of 5mg is 0.5mg.

I started my taper off prozac 5 days ago.  I am exhausted and have no energy.  Is this normal?  I can't bear feeling this way for months.  I've started taking some ginseng which helps a little otherwise I cannot get out of bed.  Does anyone know how long this extreme tiredness will go on?

I went from 5mg. of prozac down 10%.

Hi Sablee,

I merged this post with your original thread.  Each member can have one thread in the introductions/update topic, this way its easier to keep up with the details of your progress.

I'm sorry you are having some symptoms after you reduced your dose, how many mg are you taking now?

I don't think you will be feeling exhausted for months, most people usually feel some increased symptoms for a week or two after making a cut, and then start to stabilize again.

It would be helpful if you put your drug history and withdrawal in your signature, instructions are here:

Are you still taking Wellbutrin?

I hope you feel better soon.

My Introduction Thread

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

  • 1 month later...

HI Everyone,

I'm sorry I haven't kept everyone updated.  I haven't been feeling well & that's the reason.  I'm down to 3 3/4 mg. of prozac.  I want to stop the prozac taper now and taper off the wellbutrin first.  I've been at this dose of prozac (3 3/4) for at least a month and I've been fine with that no bad withdrawal symptoms.  I started to taper off the 75mg. of wellbutrin today and I'm having bad withdrawal symptoms.  I think I'm doing it wrong and would appreciate anyone's help.  I took 1/2 of the 75mg. wellbutriln at 8 a.m. today.  I then took 1/4 of the 75 mg. wellbutrin at 2 p.m..  I started feeling very sick, brain fog, anxious, nervous about 6 p.m. it's now 6:45.  Should I have divided the dose every 6 hours?  25% in the a.m., 25% 6 hours later, the  last 25% 6 hours after that?

Please someone advise me.  I'm scared

Good to hear you're doing well with the Prozac taper.

If I were you, I'd go back to the full Wellbutrin dose, even take 1/4 this evening, to come to 100%. It sounds like a 25% reduction in Wellbutrin is too much for you.

I'm not sure why you've divided the dose of Wellbutrin throughout the day, but what you've done--if I'm understanding this right--is reduce your total Wellbutrin dose by 25%. That's far too much of a drop at one time.  If I were in your place, I'd take the remaining 25% for today and then continue taking all of it as you have been doing until you're stable again.

Why did you decide to switch from tapering Prozac to tapering Wellbutrin? From what I've read on this forum, the Wellbutrin seems to be easier to taper than Prozac and would likely provide something of a buffer against withdrawal symptoms as you go completely off the Prozac. I don't understand what you're trying to do. It's usually best to get off the most difficult drug first.

Please note that I merged your current post with your Intro topic.  Only one Intro per person, okay?

Psychotropic drug history: Pristiq 50 mg. (mid-September 2010 through February 2011), Remeron (mid-September 2010 through January 2011), Lexapro 10 mg. (mid-February 2011 through mid-December 2011), Lorazepam (Ativan) 1 mg. as needed mid-September 2010 through early March 2012

Stabler, I was a mess with Wellbutrin, but about to hit 6 months of being off. Can you provide more details?

1st round Prozac 1989/90, clear depression symptoms. 2nd round Prozac started 1999 when admitted to dr. I was tired. Prozac pooped out, switch to Cymbalta 3/2006. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to mania 6/2006--then I was taken abruptly off Cymbalta and didn't know I had SSRI withdrawal. Lots of meds for my intractable "bipolar" symptoms.

Zyprexa started about 9/06, mostly 5mg. Tapered 4/12 through12/29/12

Wellbutrin. XL 300 mg started 1/07, tapered 1/18/13 through 7/8/13

Oxazepam mostly continuously since 6/06, 30mg since 12/12, tapered 1.17.14 through 8.26.15

11/06 Lithium 600mg twice daily, 2.2.14 400mg TID DIY liquid, 2.12.14 1150mg, 3.2.14 1100mg, 3.18.14 1075mg, 4/14 updose to 1100mg, 6.1.14 900 mg capsules 7.8.14 810mg, 8.17.14 725mg, 8.24.24 700mg...10.22.14 487.5mg, 3.9.15 475mg, 4.1.15 462.5mg 4.21.15 450mg 8.11.15 375mg, 11.28.15 362.5mg, back to 375mg four days later, 3.4.16 updose to 475 (too much going on to risk trouble)

9/4/13 Toprol-XL 25mg daily for sudden hypertension, tapered 11.12.13 through 5.3.14, last 10 days or so switched to atenolol

7.4.14 Started Walsh Protocol

56 years old
