Shazza tapering off pristiq

Hi I am just wanting to know what I can expect. My doctor has told me to take 1 x 50gm pristiq every second day. Is this usual. I have been 48hrs without a tablet feel great. So great that I was going to go cold turkey :/ but after reading some of the posts I have decided against it and follow the docs orders. Just wondering if it is a normal taper or not. And what side effects to expect. Thanks in advance xx

I have been on pristiq 50gm for 3yrs.

And I am tapering off at a rate of 1 tablet

every second day on my doctors advise.

Hi Shazza, welcome to SA. I'm glad you found us before going cold turkey!

People sometimes do feel great after missing a few days of anti depressant but that is

not at all likely to last!  Doctors often recommend a too fast taper, then the patient ends up back in

the office and is put back on the meds.

Here at SA we recommend no more than 10% drop every 4-6 weeks, this gives the body time to adjust

and makes tapering much less stressful with few withdrawal symptoms.

Pristiq is a tricky one to get off but many people are tapering successfully. An alternative is to switch to

effexor (venlafaxine).

Please read the topic on tapering pristiq, it has very important information about tapering.

It would help us if you could put your med history in your signature line,, here's how to do that.

**I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge.

Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible
